“My family support Voldemort in his cause and my three older brothers travelled to England a few months ago so that they could join the death eater ranks. The plan was that I would join them after I had finished my schooling, not because I believe in any of that shit, but because I admired my brothers and I wanted to be like them.” Morgan says, breathing heavily.

“And now? What’s the plan now?” I ask quietly.

“The plan changed when they started sending me letters, trying to gloat about what they were doing while I was still stuck at school. The things they wrote about, it made me sick. I couldn’t bare to imagine that if I followed my brothers, I would have to be doing the things that they wrote about. Apparently, they were beginning to make an impression on some of the other death eaters and were moving up in the ranks. Three strong and ruthless brothers, of course they were going to get noticed. They were eager for me to join them, claiming a fourth brother could get them into the inner circle. When I stopped showing an interest in joining them, they tried even harder to gain my interest. They told me important plans to show me how trusted they were. They sent me packages of hard to get items, like the veritaserum to show me the perks of being a death eater. When they told me of the attack that involved your brother I knew I had to do something. I already had a complete list of names of the Hogwarts SO and I recognised that you were related to one of the targets. I thought that maybe I could start to redeem myself for ever having considered being a death eater, so I warned you, yes in a very vague way, but I still tried. If I had said too much it would have been easily tracked back to me, so I tried to keep it vague.”

Morgan collapses into a chair after his rant and I can tell that he is exhausted as well as scared of our reaction. I glance at Draco and see him looking at his hands gravely. He was probably thinking along the same lines as me; what if this was all lies? Morgan had done nothing wrong all year, he’s had heaps of chances to cause trouble, but he hasn’t.

“I believe you, and I trust you” I say quietly.

“Ginevra, don’t you think this all requires a little more consideration? Maybe some questions under veritaserum?” Draco says sternly, I shake my head.

“No, I trust him. Morgan hasn’t given me any reason not to trust him and I intend on sticking with him, I won’t stop being friends with him just because his family are a bunch of idiots.”

“Ginevra-“

“No, Draco!” I say loudly, cutting him off, “does this situation sound familiar at all? Everybody thinks he is a death eater because members of his family are death eaters. Think about it, where have you heard that story before?”

“It’s my story” Draco says resignedly.

“Exactly, this is exactly like your story, and when it came down to it, what did I do in your story?”

“You pestered me until I let you be my friend” he smirks and I nod.

“Precisely, so what in the world makes you think that if I’m friends with you, that I’m not going to be friends with Morgan?”

“Ok, ok, I’m sorry. It’s just a little hard to take in, especially when there is someone out there trying to kill you, it just makes me a little wary.”

“So, this is going to be ok with you guys? That I have death eater relatives? I haven’t been owling my brothers since I arrived at Hogwarts, just so you know” Morgan says hesitantly.

“I can’t condemn you for having death eater relatives when my father is Lucius Malfoy and my aunt is Bellatrix Lestrange. As long as you don’t show any death eater tendencies, we’re ok” Draco says, sticking his hand out. Morgan breathes a sigh of relief and takes the blondes hand, shaking it firmly. I take a little less formal approach, squealing and jumping on Morgan.

“I’m glad you came to your sense and realised which side is cooler” is all I say, clinging onto his neck as he holds me around my waist. Morgan laughs and puts me down, backing away immediately. I have a feeling that is has something to do with the daggers that Draco is glaring at him.

“You’ll be leaving in a few weeks” I say sadly and Morgan nods.

“Yeah, we’ll be leaving a few days after the ball to finish our studies, but don’t you worry, I’ll be back. You can’t get rid of me that easily.” He grins and I smile.

“Wouldn’t want to, even if I could”

“Hey, wasn’t there something you needed to tell Malfoy, that was why we came back to the castle wasn’t it?” Morgan suddenly says and a light bulb comes on in my head.

“Yes! I need to tell you about my meeting with Dean” I say to Draco, and start telling him exactly what Dean said.

“I’m going to kill Nott” he growls and goes to get up from his seat but I drag him back down by the wrist.

“You will do no such thing. You are a Slytherin and as such you will find a sneaky and conniving way of bringing him down” I admonish him. “I don’t want you going all Gryffindor on me, there’s enough of them around as it is” I say when he smirks at me.

“Of course you like me better as a Slytherin, I look so much better in green” Draco scoffs and I playfully punch him in the arm.

“You need to deflate you ego a little, Mr. Malfoy” I tease and he smirks back at me. Neither of us notices Morgan quietly getting up and leaving, until he trips over something and swears very loudly. Idiot.

“Where do you think you’re going?” I ask, raising an eyebrow.

“Errrm, I was just, I’m going, there was, errm” he stutters, then he raises an eyebrow at me and gestures his head towards Draco.

Oh.

Yes, oh. He’s trying to give you some alone time with Draco you daft cow!

Oi! I just got insulted by my cricket. I think that’s a new low for me.

Shut up and pay attention.

I take the crickets advice and find Draco speaking to Morgan in a tone that I know means that he is very amused at the expense of someone else. This is going to get awkward, I can just tell.

“Yes, why were you leaving, Galloway? Have you got a crick in your neck, only you keep jerking it to the side” Draco says smoothly, raising one of his perfectly arched eyebrows. I think it’s time to diffuse the situation before it gets any worse.

“Morgan has to go and prepare his quidditch team for a beating they’ll never forget. They are about to play Hogwarts after all” I smirk and Morgan laughs.

“Merlin, you should see yourselves” he laughs, “like two peas in a pod” he grins. I shoot him a confused look and he gestures at Draco.

“The way you were smirking at me, you looked exactly like Malfoy, and he was still smirking at me, and you just looked so much alike” he explains. I look at Draco, who is still smirking, now at me, not Morgan.

“Picking up a few habits, Ginevra?” he asks me, amusement dancing in his eyes. I scowl and cross my arms.

“Oh, sod off” I mutter and the two boys laugh.

“Now that you mention it, I am going to go and get in some more practice with the team. Such a pity you don’t have a national team training your school team” Morgan says with a laugh as he leaves the tower.

“He’s right you know, they have got an advantage” Draco grimace, just thinking about how badly Hogwarts could lose against the visiting school.

“I’m sure we’ll do great. Besides they may have Krum, but we have Harry” I say soothingly, grinning as he flinches when I mention Harry.

“So, Ginevra, what’s in the bag you bought from Hogsmede?” he asks me suddenly, nodding towards the bag on the floor by my chair.

“Oh, that’s my dress for the ball” I say with a smile.

“Can I see it?” he ask me and I shake my head.

“No, you’re not allowed to see it until the night of the ball” I tell him waggling my finger in front of his face.

“I thought that rule only applied to your date?”

“Not in this case, I’m not letting anybody see it” I grin, “Besides, you could have been my date and I intend on dancing with you at least once, so I don’t see much difference” I see Draco’s eyes widen in surprise and grin at him cheekily.

“I don’t know what to do with you sometimes” he says exasperatedly.

“You can ask me if I would like an escort from the Head Girls room to the Entrance Hall where I will be meeting Morgan” I suggest and Draco grins.

“Would you do me the honour of allowing me to escort you down the stairs, Ms Weasley?” he asks me and I smile in return.

“I would love to”

“I take it that you and Granger will be getting ready together then?” he asks me and I nod.

“Yeah, Lavender and Parvati will also be with us, oh and Leanne as well” I tell him and he groans.

“Not those two horrendous creatures!”

“They aren’t that bad, Draco. I managed to survive dress shopping with them today so I’m sure you can survive them being in your common room for an hour or two.” I laugh at his displeasure, “besides, you got along with Parvati well enough when she was in the SO” I say.

“Yes, but she becomes a very different person in the company of Brown and I can’t stand their giggling”

“Yes, I know what you mean, but even when she was my house leader she was still very whimsical” I say and Draco nods in agreement.

“Well, I hope you didn’t let them choose your dress did you, only their dresses are usually far too short to be anything but drooled at and I’d rather you not have slobbering males all over you all night” I smirk and lean closer to him, my mouth right next to his ear.

“Oh, it’s short all right. Short and tight, I’ll have to avoid bending over at all and dancing might be slightly difficult” I whisper before pulling away with a laugh and sauntering out the door. I don’t get far before I hear Draco’s footsteps behind me.

“Catch me if you can” I tease with a wink and start running down the corridor. I can hear Draco running after me and I let out a laugh. He chases me all the way down to the entrance hall where I intend on running outside, but before I get to the doors, I feel his arms go around my waist as he catches me.

“You run pretty fast for someone with such short legs” he laughs with his arms still around me.

“It’s all the fitness training Harry makes us do” I inform him and he groans.

“I swear, Ginevra, if you mention Saint Potter one more time” Draco threatens. I turn around in his embrace to face him but catch sight of something over his shoulder.

“Draco, look at that!” I giggle, pointing to a darkened corner of the entrance hall. Draco turns around and observes the couple snogging in the corner.

“I do believe that fraternising between houses is forbidden” he calls out loudly. Dean and Leanne break apart in shock and I laugh at the look on their faces.

“Oh get stuffed, Draco, you can’t talk” Dean grins as he looks at me significantly. This time it is Leanne’s turn to laugh although the blush I caught earlier returns to her face as Dean places his arm around her waist. I smile at the younger girl and she grins in return. I raise my eyebrows and she nods and this time it is my turn to grin at her. I hear a groan from my side and turn to face Draco.

“I hate it when you girls do that” he scowls and I look at him in confusion.

“Do what?” I query.

“When girls have conversations without actually speaking!” he explains and I laugh in understanding.

“Only because you are a boy” I tell him and I look significantly at Leanne and she nods.

“You’re doing it again” Draco mumbles but I ignore him. Leanne kisses Dean on the cheek and whispers something in his ear before leaving his side and approaching me.

“Bye, boys!” I say cheerily as we walk up the stairs.

“We will be finishing this conversation later, Ginevra. I haven’t heard quite enough about your dress to be sure that it is suitable” Draco calls out to my retreating back. I grin although I feel a blush warm my cheeks.

“Seems like you have just as much explaining to do as I have, missy” Leanne says, linking her arm in mine.

When we enter the Gryffindor common room, it is fairly empty. Most people are still in Hogsmede and the younger students are probably out on the grounds, playing in the snow.

“Spill” I say as soon as we are seated in two squashy armchairs by the fire.

“Where should I start? How about when he walked in to interrogate the twins, I’ll start there” Leanne says, more to herself than to me. “Well, I’ve seen Dean around a lot because of SO, but I’ve never actually spoken to him. When he started randomly dancing in our meeting tower, I was so surprised. I didn’t expect him to be like that” she tells me.

“You weren’t the only one he surprised” I laugh, remembering the crazy way Dean danced to his own imaginary music.

“I laughed and he winked at me but we didn’t speak at all, he was busy with the interrogation and then I came with you to the quidditch match. When I saw you in the Three Broomsticks, I was so angry that I didn’t even notice who you were sitting with. You could have been sitting with McGonagall and I wouldn’t have noticed!” Leanne laughs.

“Good thing I wasn’t!” I chuckle, Leanne nods in agreement and then continues with her story,

“When I looked up and saw that it was Dean Brentley of all people I was so embarrassed that I’d just had a whine about boys in front of him. Then he asked me to the ball and didn’t know how else to react but to agree, so I did. After you left he bought me a butterbeer and we talked for ages and then he walked me back up to the castle. What you and Draco walked in on started as a chaste goodbye kiss”

“Wow, Dean Brentley and Leanne Carling, I never would have guessed it, but I like it” I say with a nod.

“I like it to” Leanne agrees with a grin.

“So, Leanne Brentley, is he a good kisser?” I tease and Leanne slaps me playfully.

“Well, Mrs Malfoy if you must know, he is an excellent kisser” she smiles and we both burst into a fit of giggles. I feel like I have returned to first year all of a sudden.

“Actually, that’s a good way to pick, Ginny. Think about it, Ginny Malfoy sounds alright, but Ginny Galloway? I don’t think it sounds good at all” Leanne suddenly says very seriously.

“Oh ha ha, Leanne” I say dryly, but the younger girl just grins at me.

“Now it’s your turn to explain to me why you and Draco were standing so close to each other and panting when you so thoughtlessly interrupted and what the dress comment is all about” Leanne says, nudging me with her elbow and waggling her eyebrows.

“There’s not really much to tell, we were talking in the meeting tower with Morgan and I was telling Draco what happened in the interrogation. Morgan left for quidditch training, although I have a feeling he was just trying to get me and Draco alone.”I say.

“Well at least one of you has some sense and is trying to get something to happen between you and Draco” Leanne huffs and glares at me.

“Hey, I flirt! That’s something isn’t it?” I argue and Leanne raises an eyebrow at me.

“Oh really, tell me then, when was the last time you actually, on purpose, flirted with Draco Malfoy?”

“I was just getting to that bit when you interrupted”

“Well, feel free to continue then” says Leanne.

“Draco and I were talking about my dress that I bought for the ball when I told him that I went with Lavender and Parvati to pick it. He asked me if it was too short like theirs usually are because he doesn’t want guys slobbering all over me apparently. So I leaned in and whispered in his ear that it’s very short and very tight and well, you get the picture. Then I left” I tell Leanne and she gapes at me,

“You said that, and then left?”

“Yep, but then I heard him come after me so I said ‘catch me if you can’ and ran. He’d just caught me when we saw you, and that’s why we were standing so close together”

“Ginny Weasley, I’m impressed. I didn’t know you had it in you to be a tease!” Leanne laughs and I blush a little. The move was very out of character for me but it was something I had spontaneously thought of and acted upon.

“So, what’s your dress actually like?” Leanne asks me and my face drops.

“Oh shit! I left my dress in the meeting tower!” I say as I stand up.

“Don’t worry, Ginny. Not many people can get up there, it’s not like you left it in the Great Hall or something stupid like that.” Leanne says calmly and we make our way quickly back up to the Gryffindor meeting tower.
