Waking up at seven was never something I looked forward too. I stumbled out of bed and marveled at the fact that unlike my other years at Hogwarts I didn’t have to wake up at the crack of dawn to get a shower. My shower was available at all time with built in hot water. Yes. Sleepily, I walked into my bathroom and washed my face. It was too quiet so I grabbed my magically powered stereo and put it by the end of my counter space. My movements merged to automatic as I moved on to brush my teeth. Next I stepped into my freshly cleaned shower and turned the nozzle on.

My thoughts were tangled as I tried to remember all the little things I had to do today. Twenty minutes of washing I got out of the shower, took out my wand, and dried myself off before taking my clothes off the counter and changing into my uniform. My red mess of a hair was rebelling so I grabbed some de-frizzing solution and applied it to my hair. After a few moments I checked the mirror. My hair was smoothing out and looked less beast esche so I began adding cover up to the small embedded circles under my eyes. Then I half heartedly added a weak layer of eyeliner and mascara and left to get my bag. I carelessly tossed my bag over my shoulder and slumped down the stairs. It was seven twenty five and breakfast started in five minutes and ended at eight thirty. I’d stayed up writing the patrol schedule for Malfoy, me and all the prefects. I would have asked Malfoy for his input but I would have had to go to his room and that was something I was simply unwilling to do. When I came down my stairs I heard footsteps and realized he must have been coming down his. I waited for him for a second and tried to hold my composure as the aroma of his soap breezed at me. Something about it aggravated me. I went into my bag to get his copy of the schedule. He shoved it into his pockets.

“If you have any changes just tell me.”

“You have me working too much.”

He didn’t even look at the sheet. I ignored that. “You are working tonight with Barkley.”

“I’m busy.”

I closed my bag and started walking away but he stepped in front of me of me blocking the exit. “You’re mad aren’t you?” He accused with that classic stupid conceited smirk of his.

I raised my eyebrows at him evenly. “About what?”

“Well-“

“You kissing horse face?” I laughed tonelessly, with a lie fresh on my tongue, “I thought we agreed no commitment.” He eyed me so I continued, “So no hard feelings here.” Malfoy smirk grew. “None.” I reassured him. “So if you don’t mind-“ He stuck his arm out to stop me blocking my exit.

I was about to mention breakfast. My stomach was growling but my lips were yearning for something and he knew exactly what it was. He leaned forward and bridged the gap between our lips. It was like someone shot a bolt of adrenaline through me. I felt everything at high voltage. One of his hands gripped the back of my waist while the other ran down the back of my thigh. I kissed him harder as he picked me up with one arm and turned so he was pinning me against the cool stone wall. His breath scorched my flushed skin when we broke apart. My eyes searched his, beginning him to not say anything. ‘please,’ I thought desperately as his foggy grey eyes bore into my eyes, ‘Don’t ruin this.’

Steadily he lowered me to the ground as I unlocked my legs from his waist. Before I could stop myself my hands fluttered up to his toned chest to retie his tie. Scorpius gave me the tiniest smile and reached down to rebutton the buttons that somehow had come undone in our brief…interlude. His rough hands grazed my color bone gently sending a shiver of pleasure trickling down my spine.

“We should go,” I breathed softly as my hungry stomach growled again.

He laughed at my stomach and I felt myself smile involuntary. He had a nice laugh, it was hard not smile when he looked so genially happy. His perfect white teeth shined as his eyes appeared clear for the first time.

“What time did you wake up?” He asked me casually as I threw my bag over my shoulder.

“Seven.”

He nodded as we walked out of the portrait hole. “You didn’t take a shower?”

I glared at him offended. “No….I did.”

“Wow.”

“What?”

“You take short showers”

I didn’t know what to say. “Uh…Yeah…I guess.”

I started walking faster and was surprised to find him strolling casually beside me. “Raspberry?”

“Yeah.” I blushed realizing he was talking about my shampoo scent. “What time did you wake up?”

He shrugged, “Six.”

This peeked my interest. “Why so early?”

“Couldn’t sleep.”

I glanced at him out of the corner of my eye. He did look tired. I hadn’t noticed before. I was going to ask what woke him up when we reached the great hall doors. We weren’t holding hand, we weren’t even touching but I still just as guilty as if we were. His face slowly morphed back into indifference. The change from the Scorpius I was getting to know to the one I had always known was so subtle an untrained eye might have missed it but I was watching. His face reset, his eyes went cloudy and his body got stiff. After a minute the air between us got colder. It might have been my imagination. It probably was.

“Well,” I breathed bitterly, “Guess I’ll see you later.”

“Yeah.”

Zooey was with Bethany so I sat in between Albus and Adam. Albus nodded and me curtly, “Practice tonight.”

I scoffed mockingly. “Looking forward to it Captain.”

“Don’t be late.”

I turned slowly and glared at him. “Yeah,” I scowled, “I got that.”

Adam snickered next to me. I shook my head as I piled toast and eggs onto my plate. I ate as fast as I could without hurling. By the time I finished my plate all the food disappeared. I let out a sigh of relief. At least I ate something. Charlie came over to me perkily and I noticed something, her boyfriend was nowhere to be found.

“What do you have first hour?”

“Charms.”

“Me too.”

I looked at her strangely. “Do you want to... walk with me?”

“Yeah!” She linked arms with me and I shrugged along with it. We talked aimlessly all the way up to the fifth floor only to find there wasn’t a classroom.

“Damn it!” I groaned, “The room must have moved itself.”

“Where did it move last time?”

I sighed and went back to the staircase. “Third floor.”

The whole class was standing outside the classroom in a tight crowd. Which considering there are thrity people in my class that was unconvient to getting inside on time. Seeing Albus I moved through the mass of people to get to him.

“What’s going on?”

“No idea but Malfoy won’t let us through.”

I craned my neck to see over the boys that were taller than me only to find Scorpius standing in front of the door intimidating. Determined I squeezed through and fought to get to him. He gave me a scathing look as I approached but said nothing to me.

“What’s the problem?”

He blocked the doorway from everyone else’s view but let me peek under him to see. Only to find blood pouring out of Professor Flitwick’s paling corpse. An involuntary gasp passed through my lips but thankfully everyone behind me was being too loud to heard it. Scorpius shut the door firmly.

“What do we do?”

He didn’t looked panicked or scared like me he was calm in bad situations. I took out my wand and casted a giant silencio. “Now look,” I started fiercely to the crowd almost daring them to try and fight me when they were unable to speak. “You all get this lesson off. So just make this easier and hear the gossip later.”

Some left but I could see most of them protesting. They were nosy and I couldn’t really blame them. I’d want to know what was going on if I was them. One of them, Alec Fenton, made it to the front but pulled back. I didn’t know how I had silently stopped him when I saw Scorpius move closer to the door. As soon as he rolled up his robe sleeves to reveal the muscles lying underneath even the most buff guys backed off. Once they left I let out a breath, not of relief either. I faced him.

“Now what do we do?”

“You have to go get Thomas. I’ll guard the door.”

I didn’t doubt that he could stop anyone but I still didn’t feel right leaving him with a dead body, call it politeness.

“Go,” He told me sternly, “I’ll be fine Weasley.”

I ran to the headmaster’s office as quickly as I could all the while all I could think about was Flitwick’s face. He wasn’t killed by accident. Judging by the amount of blood and his state of rigor he’d been dead for at least three hours. Which the question lingering in my mind, who would want to kill Flitwick? He was a sweet aging old man. I doubted that he ever got on the wrong side of anybody so why would anyone do this to him? The headmaster was sitting at his des filing some paperwork. He looked confused to see me.

“Miss Weasley?”

I couldn’t stop myself I just…blurted it out. “Professor Flitwick is dead.”

He appeared to be utterly baffled. “I beg your pardon?”

I bit my lip. “Malfoy is blocking the classroom off from his class but he…” I paused, “He’s dead.”

Professor Thomas leapt up and rushed off. I was about to follow him when one of the portraited headmaster’s caught my eye. I looked at the name plate and saw that it was Albus’s name sake, Albus Dumbledore. The elderly man’s face was pained at the news I just delivered. I moved for the door when I heard him speak quietly. “How?”

I frowned, “I don’t know…It wasn’t the killing curse.” Then I reached for the door and followed the professor’s trail.

When I got to the room Malfoy was leaning against the door outside. I took a spot on the wall next to him. “He was so nice…” I whispered sadly. “Why would anyone do this?”

Scorpius rested his head on the wall. “Everyone has enemies.”

I turned and glanced at him worriedly. “Enemies yeah but …murder?”

We didn’t say anything for a minute. What could we say? In just an instant the whole world had shifted and I didn’t know what to do. The Headmaster didn’t come out for three hours. At that point I made myself move.

“Come on.” I told him quietly.

“We can’t go back to class till we talk to class.”

I shook my head. “We aren’t going back to class.”

He starred at me with an expression I couldn’t understand. I was about to walk away by myself when he nodded and came with me. Even with this horrible circumstance I couldn’t stop myself. I could feel my skin goose bump when his arm just happened to swing too close to mine. I closed my eyes for a moment to gather my head before we went into our common room. I had to get ahold of myself. This meant nothing. What was going on between me and Malfoy was nothing. I moved to the couch and thought about poor Professor Flitwick. I just couldn’t see anyone even having the slightest motivation for killing him. I leaned back against the arm of the sofa and stretched my legs out as I let my thoughts circle around aimlessly in my head. I figured…okay well I hoped he would go up his staircase and quit jacking up my hormones. Of course he didn’t. He couldn’t do what I expected him to do…that would be too easy. Instead he sat in the empty slot next to my feet.

I looked at him oddly. “What?”

“I can’t believe you didn’t go back to class.”

“What do you mean?”

He got up went to his staircase and shook his head. “Nevermind Weasley.”
