Dom sat gazing out the window of the Gryffindor common room. Rain droplets were racing down the window. The common room was quiet and relaxed. Most everyone was still asleep. Only a few younger students were up and playing a card game. Dom was lost in her thoughts as she watched the storm clouds swirl.

The upcoming weekend was Valentine’s Day. Cal had told her earlier that he had something planned. She had yet to get him something. The past years when she had gotten something for Frank it had seemed so easy. All she had to do was get him a sweater and he was happy. A sweater wouldn’t do for Cal. She had asked Sierra and Hannah what to get. Sierra had suggested something to do with Quidditch while Hannah had suggested sexual favors. Neither seemed like a good idea to Dom. She had to find something special, something unique.

There was also the threat of Roxy hanging over Dom’s head. Roxy had told Dom that if she dropped out or broke the promise, Roxy would tell Cal what Dom was trying to do. She would tell Cal that Dom was trying to break his heart because of a bet. The worst part was that Dom couldn’t deny it. She had fallen into a pit that was too deep to climb out of.

“Is something wrong, Dom?” Dom turned to see Hugo standing there with a concerned expression.

“I was just having a hard time deciding what to get Cal for Valentine’s Day,” Dom said with a small smile.

“You could always ask one of our relatives for something. We do have quite a lot of famous relatives with fabulous connections,” Hugo chuckled. “I’ll see you later, Dom.”

Dom watched Hugo walk away in shock. His answer was so perfect. She could Cal anything. She could get him tickets to any Quidditch game or to any concert or she could… She could get him an interview.

It was perfect. Cal wanted to work for the Ministry and most of her family was in the Ministry. With the end of seventh year approaching, everyone would be in want of a job.

Dom reached in her bag and pulled a quill.

Dear Aunt Hermione,

I was wondering if you could do me a favor. I have a close friend who is interested in working for the Ministry. I wanted to know if you could give him an interview. I wouldn’t ask if I didn’t think that he would be someone that would help the Ministry out.

Love,

Dominique

Her aunt Hermione was her best bet. Hermione worked in Magical Law and was very high up in the Ministry. If Hermione approved of Cal, he would get the job automatically.

Dom got a reply later that day.

Dominique,

I would be glad to help you out. I know tomorrow is Valentine’s Day but what would you say to drinks at the Three Broomsticks around 9:30? Let me know if that works and of course bring your friend along.

Love,

Aunt Hermione

Dom woke earlier than usual the next day to start getting ready. Michelle was in the bathroom caking on the makeup when Dom went in. Michelle gave a slight glare and then turned back to the mirror. Dom was surprised her head didn’t fall over it was weighted down with so much makeup.

Dom took a quick shower and charmed her hair dry. She thanked her veela genes that she didn’t have to do much to get ready.

Back in the dorm room, Hannah was awake and eating a muffin. Sierra was still asleep.

“Hey Dom, this basket was dropped off for you,” Hannah mumbled through a mouthful of food.

The basket was full of muffins and pastries. It didn’t have a note or any indication of who it was from.

“The muffins are good. You should try one.”

“I’ll pass. I told Cal I’d meet him in the Great Hall as soon as I was ready,” Dom replied grabbing her coat and walking out the door.

Cal still hadn’t told her what they were doing today. Dom just hoped that her plans didn’t interfere with his.

Cal was sitting at the Hufflepuff table when she got down there. Sitting next to Cal was Zack Summerby. Zack was tall with dark hair and brown eyes. He was the party boy of Hufflepuff. He was also Cal’s good friend.

“Hey Zack,” Dom greeted as she sat down and gave Cal a kiss.

“What? No kiss for me,” Zack joked.

“You can have one from me,” Cal teased puckering his lips.

“No thanks, I’d rather kiss Maya Goyle,” Zack laughed.

“She could be a nice person for all you know,” Dom said.

Zack and Cal both gave her a look.

“Or maybe she is a man in disguise,” Dom smiled.

“Yes, that is it,” Zack cheered. “Dom has finally seen the light. Maya Goyle is a man!”

They all laughed. Maya Goyle was a Slytherin who favored her father’s looks. She was big and gruff. Even the Slytherins didn’t like her.

“So what are you lovebirds doing for Valentine’s day?” Zack grinned.

“That is a surprise,” Cal said.

“First we are going to the Three Broomsticks for drinks,” Dom answered.

“We are?” Cal asked.

“Yes, I have a surprise of my own,” Dom smiled.

“Her surprise is that she is going to strip dance on the table for everyone,” Zack teased.

Dom threw one of the grapes on her plate at him.

“And what are you doing today, Zack?”

“I have a date with Kasey Holland. She’s this pretty little Ravenclaw,” Zack replied.

“Where are you going to take her?” Dom asked.

“The Three Broomsticks,” Zack answered through a mouth of food.

“Zack never was very original,” Cal chuckled.

“Well we better get going, Cal,” Dom said as she stood up.

“Okay, see you later Zack,” Cal said as he followed Dom.

“Are you going to tell me why we are going to the Three Broomsticks?” Cal asked.

Dom shook her head as she led him inside and to the back table where her aunt had said she would be.

“Hello, I’m Hermione Weasley,” Her aunt introduced as they sat down.

“Hello, I’m Calvin Blue,” Cal quickly said with a flash of surprise.

“Dominique owled me that you would like to work for the Ministry. I’m here to talk to you and see if you would be good for the job,” Hermione explained.

“Oh wow, thanks Domi,” Cal turned to her and smiled.

Dom grinned and leaned back in her seat. She watched everyone around her as Cal and Hermione talked. About two thirds of the room was filled with Hogwarts students. She saw Zack usher in a small brunette. She must be the girl he was talking about at Breakfast.

“Thank you so much, Mrs. Weasley,” Cal thanked as he stood up. “Are you ready to go, Dom?”

Dom nodded. She gave her aunt a hug and followed Cal out the door. He pulled her into the alley.

All around her was a spinning sensation as Cal pulled her close. Cal was taking her somewhere outside of Hogwarts.

They arrived in what Dom assumed was Muggle London. It seemed to be an older part of the town. The only activity on the street was a small restaurant across the way, Blue’s.

“Welcome to where I grew up,” Cal said placing his hand on the small of her back. “That is my brother’s restaurant which is where we will be eating.”

Dom had many questions to ask but didn’t say anything as he led her into the restaurant. It had a quaint pub feel inside. The lights were a little dim and it wasn’t the cleanest place she had been in but it was nice enough. It reminded her somewhat of the Leaky Cauldron. She glanced at the tables wondering what food they served. On the first table, there was pasta. On the next, there were tacos and some type of fish.

“Calvin, it’s been too long boy.”

A rather large man came out of the back. He had on an apron covered in food. He had graying hair that was pulled out of his face. He had a friendly smile as he clapped Cal on the back. His voice had an accent that sounded American.

“Dutch, it’s good to see you,” Cal grinned.

“Who is this lovely lady?” The man, Dutch, asked.

Cal pulled Dom forward. “This is my girlfriend, Dominique Weasley.”

“Right pleasure to meet you, Miss Weasley,” Dutch said with a shake of her hand.

“It’s nice to meet you too.”

“Now, where is my brother?” Cal asked.

“He is in the back. I’ll go get him but you two take a seat.” Dutch gestured to a booth in the back corner.

Cal had a smile on his face as they sat down.

“That was Dutch you just met,” Cal explained. “He is a good friend of my brother’s. He is the cook here.”

Just then a man who must have been Cal’s brother came out of the back. He had the same eyes as Cal did and his light brown hair was swept exactly the same way. The only difference was age and the nose. Cal’s brother’s nose was slightly more pronounced and straight. He walked over to their table with the same easy grin Cal wore.

“Little brother, it’s great to see you and I see you have brought the lovely Dominique Weasley,” His brother grinned. “How are you doing today?”

“Don’t scare her. Dom, this is my brother, Jacob and Jacob appears to already know your name,” Cal said.

“Dutch told me what your name was,” Jacob chuckled. “But back to business, what can I get you to eat?”

“First explain to Dom about your restaurant, Jake,” Cal sighed.

“Sorry Miss, I forgot you don’t know how it works at Blue’s. We can make any type of food you want. You tell us what type of food you want and we will prepare a dish for you. You can say anything from Italian to Chinese to seafood and we will bring it to you.”

Dom had to admit. The idea was very interesting. She had never been to a restaurant like this one. Just by looking at it, she would have guessed they served fish and chips with a beer.

“Uhm, I’ll just eat whatever Cal’s having,” Dom said unsure of what to say.

“Okay, well then just bring us out two specials and some lemonade,” Cal said.

“Your drinks will be out momentarily,” Jacob said before he screamed out, “Hey Dutch bring them out two lemonades and start making two specials.”

“The lemonade here is the best you’ll ever have,” Cal said with a smile.

“Then I can’t wait to try it and can I ask what the special is?” Dom said

“Truthfully, I’m not too sure. The special is always a surprise.” Cal shrugged.

Their lemonade was brought out a moment later by Dutch with Jacob closely behind him. They placed the lemonade on the table and watched. Cal watched her too. She figured it was to see her reaction to this fabulous lemonade. She took a sip. Before she could stop herself, she spit it out. It was completely sour.

Cal, Jacob, and Dutch all roared with laughter. Dom felt a blush rise in her cheeks.

“I’m sorry, Domi,” Cal said through laughing.

Dutch put a plate of sugar cubes on the table while Jacob wiped up the lemonade on the table.

“You put the sugar in, honey. Then it will taste right good,” Dutch said.

Dom said nothing as she stirred the sugar in. She took another sip hoping that it wasn’t a joke. This time it tasted perfect. It was sweet but with a hint of sour. Cal was right. It was the best lemonade she had ever tasted.

“This is really good,” Dom blurted after she took another sip.

“Thank you, Miss,” Dutch smiled.

Jacob still had a hint of laughter on his face as he walked back to the kitchen with Dutch. The expression of laughter was mirrored on Cal’s face.

“Sorry about that but it’s sort of a ritual here for new customers,” Cal said.

Cal stirred the sugar in his drink before taking a sip. He seemed relaxed and at ease here in the restaurant.

“Okay, I don’t know if my present can match the one you gave me,” Cal said pulling something out of his pocket.

“I’m sure whatever you got is perfect,” Dom said.

Cal handed her a blue rectangular box. She slowly opened it. Inside was a bracelet. It was silver with patterns of flowers on it. In the center of the flowers were small blue gems. On the inside of the bracelet, words were inscribed: To Dominique, my kitty kat.

“It’s beautiful, Cal. I love it,” Dom said leaning over to give him a kiss. “It’s the best Valentine’s present I’ve ever gotten.”

Cal smiled as he reached over and helped her fasten the bracelet on her wrist. Dom held onto his hand as they waited for their food to come.

Dom hadn’t been lying when she had said it was the best Valentine’s present she had ever gotten. There was something so unique about the bracelet. It wasn’t like anything Frank had ever gotten her. The jewelry she had received from Frank was sitting at the bottom of her jewelry box. Frank’s gifts had never been something she would’ve picked out for herself but this bracelet would have been something she would have lusted over in the store.

Jacob brought their food out with a big grin. He set the steaming plates of food before them. It was a massive cheeseburger. The bun and burger had been shaped in a heart.

“Now this burger will taste like nothing you’ve ever had before. We get the beef from the United States and the cheese is the best you’ll ever have,” Jacob said.

Dom bit into it. Unlike with the lemonade, there were not tricks. The burger was wonderful. Dom looked closer at it. The burger had two patties between each one was a slice of perfectly melted cheese.

“I know it’s fabulous, right,” Jacob laughed as he watched them. “Well since it’s so good I’ll just let you two lovebirds finish eating.”

They didn’t say anything more as they finished the burger. Dom felt stuffed by the end. If someone poked her with a pin, she was sure she’d explode.

“I hope you liked the burger,” Cal said. “I know it’s not traditional Valentine’s Day food.”

“It was wonderful. And I can tell you liked it too,” Dom teased wiping a bit of ketchup of his face.

“Not as much as I liked being with you.” Cal’s blue eyes stared straight at her. Dom had to turn her head.

“You’re so cheesy, Cal,” Dom said.

“I heard girls liked stuff like that,” Cal grinned.

“You must be taking advice from Zack,” Dom laughed.

Cal laughed and waved his hand. Jacob was back at their table in a second.

“Leaving all ready?” Jacob said as Cal handed him some Muggle money.

“I’m afraid so. We need to get back before people realize we left.”

“Okay,” Jacob said before giving Cal a hug. “Take care, Calvin.”

“You too, Jacob.”

Dom almost felt as if she should look away. Cal was obviously close with his brother. It was if they were sharing something that was just between the two of them.

“It was nice to meet you, Miss Weasley.” Jacob kissed her hand before leading them out.

“It was nice to meet you as well,” Dom said.

Cal wrapped his arm around her as he led her back to the alley and apparated back to Hogsmeade. They arrived in a snow covered alley behind Honeydukes.

“I’m ready to head back to the castle if you are,” Dom said.

“That sounds good.”

“I hope you enjoyed today,” Cal said as they stood outside the Gryffindor Common Room.

“It was wonderful.” Dom kissed him. Cal pulled her in close. His hands were warm against her cold cheeks as he slowly kissed her.

“I had a wonderful time with you,” He whispered. “This is for you.”

He pulled out a bright yellow rose from behind his back.

“Thank you, Cal.” Dom kissed his cheek.

“See you later, Kitty Kat,” Cal said as he walked away.

Dom climbed inside the Common Room. Not many people were back yet from Hogsmeade. The few that were in the common room were younger than Dom. The only face she recognized was Rose. She laughed to herself as she realized that Rose was studying. Only Rose would be in the Common Room studying on a Hogsmeade weekend. Dom made her way up to her dorm. It was early in the afternoon but Dom soon fell asleep as she lay on her bed.
