Daddy’s Little Girl

I think you're ready baby

I think you're ready baby

Come on and get it baby
I think you're, I think you're
I think you're ready baby
Daddy's little girl is ready baby yeah
I think you're ready baby
I think you're, I think you're
                                                                              --Jesse McCartney, ‘Daddy’s Little Girl’

If anyone had told Draco Malfoy that he would get as lucky as he was feeling right now, five years ago, he would’ve laughed right in their face. He, Draco Malfoy, son of Lucius Malfoy, the Death Eater, had no future, not at work or anywhere for that matter. He was condemned to never have a peaceful life unlike Potter, Weasel or Granger, who were war heroes. And it wasn’t even his fault. Perfect.

But now, as he saw her walking down the aisle, towards him, he knew, this was it. This was the perfect moment, this was the moment he knew changed everything. For the first time since Merlin knows when, he saw a future, a future full of happiness and joy, which had its own share of problems. But hey, who was counting? What’s life without a little difficulty, eh?

A year ago, when his best mate Zabini had announced that he and Daphne Greengrass were engaged to be married, Draco was happy for them, though he could sense a twinge of jealousy in there somewhere. Very unlike many others, Blaise and Draco had been best friends since forever in the literal sense. Both came from very old pureblood families that were even distantly related. Blaise had been like the sibling he never had. It did help that they were practically neighbours, though the Zabini Mansion was a good ten miles from their Manor. It was the only house for miles around. If anyone were to ask, he wouldn’t tell them any of what he’d just thought.

So when Blaise asked him to be his Best Man, it came as no surprise to Draco, asking him was a mere formality, the moment the announcement had been made, he knew he was the Best Man. Who Daphne chose as the Maid of Honour though, came as a complete surprise.

It was well known that the Greengrass’ had two daughters and a son, Daphne, Astoria and Robert, affectionately called Rob. They had sent their son to Durmstrang, their eldest, Daphne to Hogwarts and middle one, Astoria had been home-schooled. She was definitely not a squib, one of the most the talented witches of her age, coming in second only to Hermione Granger. Draco had never met Astoria before, the opportunity never having risen for a meeting. Astoria never turned up for the Annual Malfoy Christmas Ball, either, only her sister making it with her parents and little brother. They’d said she had to attend another ball where all her friends would be present. The Malfoy’s were never ones to judge such an old and well-known pureblood family.

Daphne and Astoria had never been very close, Draco’d been told. And it honestly wasn’t a surprise since, for the majority of the year Daphne was at Hogwarts while Astoria was homeschooled. But they did have a connection that all sisters around the world shared; each was fiercely protective of the other.

When the four of them had gone shopping for the wedding for the first time, he remembered what Astoria’d told Blaise, “You hurt her, and I won’t stop to think for a second that you’re my brother-in-law, and rip you to shreds and burn them.” And she said all of this, with a smile on her face.

That day out had been the first time he saw her and the moment he did, he knew he was a goner. She was the most beautiful thing he’d ever seen.

I screeched to a halt at a signal; tapping my other foot impatiently against the metal of the accelerator. Though I could’ve apparated there, I preferred the Muggle type of transport, it was more thrilling. And since I had a well-paying job, I could afford the best; a Mercedes Benz, the latest model. The signal turned green a few seconds later and I once again floored the accelerator. I was late for the fitting appointment I had with Blaise. I was the best man so he and I had decided to go look for new dress-robes together, oh what a waste of time. Both of us considered it wasn’t necessary but after the murderous look Daph had shot us when we’d suggested we’d wear the ones we already owned, we’d not said anything else. I wasn’t usually late but this time my freaking boss had held me back longer, darned Granger.

Once again my car tyres strained against the road to come to a halt and I slammed the car door behind me as I rushed into the shop, not running, no that would mean that I was sorry I was late, and a Malfoy was never sorry for their actions, just walking fast. I looked around, looking for Blaise and Daphne and didn’t see where I was going.

Suddenly, I felt a bumped into something, or someone, in this case and I turned my head to see who it was. At first all I could see was a lot of blonde hair. She had been knocked backwards when I bumped into her and now was sprawled on the floor of the shop her hair everywhere. The woman collected herself and shook her hair off her face. When I finally saw the woman’s face, it was life someone had punched me in the stomach. Her beauty took my breath away. I quickly got up back on my feet and tried helping her up. She held my hand and pulled herself up and said, looking into my eyes, “Thank you, Mr.?” she asked

“Draco. Just Draco.” I answered.

Her eyes went wide for the fraction of a second and that was gone before I realised it. She nodded and said, “Right. Draco, just Draco.” There was an awkward silence which followed and lasted about a minute or so after which she said, “Well, Draco, I’ve got to be off.” And proceeded in the opposite direction. I couldn’t help but stare after her.

“Malfoy!” I heard a familiar voice call. I turned to see Blaise standing with an annoyed Daphne. I let my face relax into an easy smile and said, “Blaise. How are you?” and moved ahead to pull him into a man-hug. Daphne slapped my arms away and said, “Draco, you were supposed to be here half an hour ago. Where the hell were you?!” she screeched.

I pretended to ignore her and said, “So, Blaise, are the robes ready?”

He shook his head, “No. Another week or so should do it. At least that’s what the seamstress said. Anyway, now that you’re here, you might as well help us choose crockery for the wedding and see the bridesmaid’s and maid of honour’s dresses.” He added after Daph shot him a glare.

I raised my eyebrow and shrugged, I didn't have anything else to do anyway, might as well please an old friend.

Daphne clapped her hands and said, “Oh Dray! This is going to be so much fun! You haven’t met my sister have you? She’s the maid of honour. I believe she was somewhere around here...” Daphne trailed off looking for Astoria.

“There she is!” she exclaimed two minutes later and called out, “Tori! Tor! Astoria!”

I turned around ion the direction of Daphne’s finger and suddenly it felt as if my stomach had dropped six feet under. A cold sensation came over my body as I realise the beautiful woman I’d bumped in to at the front of the store was Astoria Greengrass.

I was in love.

And then, as they say, one thing led to another and soon Draco and Astoria were in a steady relationship. Astoria was all Draco could have ever asked for in a woman; she was funny, charming, beautiful, witty and intelligent. His life was perfect.

Draco spun her around in a circle as they danced at Daphne and Blaise’s wedding reception.  She placed her hand on his shoulder as she came to a halt form the spin and said, smiling, “So, Mr. Malfoy. Are we enjoying ourselves?”

Draco chuckled and said, “With you around, is it ever possible that I won’t enjoy anything, Mrs. Malfoy?” Astoria gasped and stopped dancing.

Draco let go of her right hand and bent down on to one knee. With his free hand he took out a small velvet box that had been feeling awfully heavy for the past hour or so.

“I’d never seen you before I met you six months ago at the wedding store, Toria. And yet, the moment I met you, I knew I was in love. I promise to love you forever and ever, Toria. Astoria Jeanette Greengrass, will you marry me?”

With that Draco slid the diamond ring on to the third finger of her left hand and waited. After what felt like an eternity, Astoria whispered, “Yes.

Draco beamed and pulled her into a sweet kiss. When they broke apart, she whispered, “I love you.” amid the clapping and cheers and wolf whistles that had emerged at Draco’s proposal.

“I asked your father for your hand too, you know.” Draco whispered back.

“All of them knew?” Astoria asked, loudly.

Draco nodded.

She spun on her sister and said, “You knew? You knew all this time and didn’t tell me?!” she demanded.

Daphne let out a laugh and said, “Honey, you had this coming a long time. I’m surprised he waited so long. I thought he’d propose to you the moment he saw you. I knew right from the start that he was in love, sweetheart. He always loved you.”

Astoria raised and eyebrow at her sister and turned back to Draco, “Seriously?”

“Well...” he trailed off.

Draco Malfoy was never at a loss of words. He always had something to say.

“Oh Draco!” she cried and ran into his arms and pulled him into a hug.

Draco ran a hand through his hair, relieved. The proposal had gone better than he’d anticipated; now it was only one more thing.

“Thanks, Daddy. For everything, for the wedding, for the amazing gifts and especially for willingly giving me away and all that. I’ll miss you.” Astoria said, getting teary-eyed.

“Aw, sweetheart. Don’t cry! It’s alright. We can see each every now and then. You can come over to America every holiday, we’ll work something out.” Her dad said, stroking her hair, trying not make her cry, as they danced their Father-Daughter dance at the Wedding.

The Greengrass’ had moved to the United States of America as Mr. Greengrass had received a good job offer over there. Though they were rich enough, Mr. Greengrass felt they still had to work. No matter what.

Daphne and Blaise waltzed by them, joining them on the dance floor. “Guess you aren’t daddy’s little girl anymore, are you, Tori?” Daphne laughed.

Astoria let out a watery laugh and said, looking at her father, “That’s for daddy to decide. What do you say, daddy?”

“You’ll always be my little baby girl, Tori, always.” Her father replied, beaming down on her. A few tears leaked from beneath Astoria’s closed eye-lids.

“On that note, may I, sir?” Draco spoke from behind Mr. Greengrass.

Robert Sr. Greengrass laughed out loud and said, “You may, son, you may. Go ahead.” He let go of Astoria and winked at her as Draco took her in his arms. Astoria blushed and said, “Hey, hun.”

“Hi, yourself. So how was the father-daughter dance? Does your father have any toes left?” Draco teased, wiping away her tears with his thumbs. It wasn’t a well known fact, but Astoria couldn’t dance to save her life.

She turned a deeper scarlet and said, “I didn’t step on his foot even once, thank you very much.” Trying to sound haughty, but failed as her face broke into a grin as she saw her father lead her mother to the floor for a dance. It had been ages since she saw her parents dancing and looking as happy as they were now. She sighed, and placed her head on Draco’s shoulder, as a slow song came on.

Suddenly, Blaise’s voice was heard, “Ladies and gentlemen, a special request from Mr. Draco Malfoy!” he announced loudly and the song suddenly changed, the opening chords being played on the electric guitar.

Astoria gasped and turned on Draco, raising an eyebrow, oh the nerve of that boy. It was a Muggle pop star, Jesse McCartney’s ‘Daddy’s Little Girl’ playing on the Muggle stereo.

Draco bit back laughter and said, innocently, “What?”

She hit him on the arm and said, “Just you wait.”

“Oh, I’ll wait alright.”

She glared at him and asked, her expression softening, “How did you get your hands on this, by the way?”

He shrugged and said, “I have my sources.”

Astoria didn’t ask any more and continued dancing. The song was about how daddy’s little girl was now his ‘baby’ as the singer put it. And he didn’t mean it in the direct sense either.
