The thought process of Sirius Black as he dies, and says goodbye to those around him. I own nothing here.

I feel something hit me and look up, there is Bella, her wand outstretched. Her mouth open with a laugh, and I know that this is the end. I can see that face, the laughter on it, the madness. It is the same look I know is upon my own, for we Black’s share features, but none of us look more alike than Bella and I. Azkaban had aged us both, dear Bella, I only wish that we had both been spared, and you had followed those initial insticts. Do you remember when you told me your biggest secret?

“Sirius, dear, congratulations on starting at Hogwarts.”

“You’re not mad at me, Bella?”

“No, I’m proud of you.”

I was confused, “But everyone else is mad, they say I was bad for

being sorted into Gryffindor.”

“Sirius, I always knew you weren’t a slytherin. Do you want to know a secret?”

Yes, of course I did, I was eleven.

“The sorting hat almost put me in Gryffindor, too.”

But that was years ago now, when you were younger and your thoughts un-tainted. I must admit Bella, you disappointed me when you joined Voldemort. But not as much as you disappoint me now, that boy there is Harry Potter, do you not remember the first time you laid eyes on him?

“Bellatrix, you’re not welcome here.”

Bella’s eyes glinted dangerously, “No, cousin? I merely wish to see the boy.”

“Why?” James’ eyes narrowed. “Considering having one yourself?”

I pulled a face of distaste, “We don’t need any Lestrange spawn crawling about, Bella, I advise you not to have children.”

“Let me see the child, and I will leave.” Her voice was insistant. I didn’t want her to see Harry, he was just a child and I didn’t want her very presence to poison him.

“Oh boys, stop being ridiculous, here, Bellatrix, this is my son.” Lily pushed between us. Always the reasonable one. Baby Harry looked up at Bella, his green eyes sparkling with interest. Bella’s face softened for an instance, reminding me of the child she had once been.

“Goodbye, Bellatrix.” I shut the door in her face.

You might have warned me of the Dark Lords plan, had I listened. I know there’s some good in there, and I hope that in the end you will realize this. I doubt it though. Goodbye, dear cousin.

And what of you, Lucius? Standing there firing curses at the teenagers. Do you remember when, in my first year of Hogwarts you hung James and I from the astronomy tower? I could tell, even then that you were a snake. Do you want to know a secret? Here, as I trip backwards from the force of my cousin’s spell, I can see my life, the parts I wish to see flash before my eyes. Most of the scenes I see are with James and Lily, Remus and Peter. There is one, Lucius. One that I remember, the time I went to your wedding. Do you remember that? For that one day we put aside our differences.

“Congratulations, Lucius. Cissy.”

“You came, Sirius? I was under the impression you didn’t want anything to do with us.”

“Yes, Narcissa, I came. Mother insisted, and besides, were we not once friends?”

“I do remember a few incidences where we played games together.”

“yes, Cissy, we did. I thought I should see you one last time and congratulate you.”

“One last time?”

“Don’t think I don’t know what’s coming, Cissy.”

“Thankyou, Sirius.”

“You’re quite welcome. Now, Lucy, feel like a scotch?”

“Sirius, you’re fifteen.”

“Oh, Lucy, does it matter?”

That was before you joined Voldemort though, that was when you were young. Remember how drunk we got? So drunk that we declared eternal friendship. Goodbye, Lucius, my eternal friend, eternal enemy.

I can see those children who fight loyally along with my godson. Hermione and Ron’s loyalty remind me of that bond that we Marauders shared, and young Ginny, the way Harry looks at her reminds me of how James looked at Lily before he realized quite how in love he really was. Prongs, I hope you can see his face, and I hope you see the humour, Potter’s always fall for redheads.

“Come on Lils, you know you love me.”

“I do not, Potter.”

“But I love you!” James yelled, flinging his arms around Lily’s neck. I

exchanged a look with Remus, poor James, poor Lily.

“Why, Potter?”

“Because, Flower, your red hair makes my heart sing.”

“My hair? You love me because of my hair?” Lily looked shocked, I laughed,

“He loves you because of your hair, yes, Lily Flower.”

“Do not call me Flower, Black. And get Potter to let go of me.”

Remus and I extracted James, “C’mon Prongs, let’s go.”

“No! Flower! I love you Flower!” James clawed at us, trying to fight his way back to Lily, who giggled and kept walking.

That is how I see us, when I see those children. So silly, and yet to set on fighting evil, on fighting the likes of Lucius. Prongs, do you see your son going toe to toe with Malfoy? You would be proud, and Lily, you would be too. Even if he is in danger, your heart would fill to the brim.

Regulus, you might be gone, but I know you will hear me. I know that I will soon discover the cause of your death, and I hope that after this, I will see you again. I believe that you were always good on the inside, Reg. I’m sorry I wasn’t man enough to pull you out of it all while I could, I’m sorry I abandoned you, and left you with them.

There is Remus, oh Remus my friend. I know that now I am leaving you, and you will be the last of the Marauders to stand. Here I am, deserting you after you only just got me back, my friend. Do you remember the day we met?

“I-I’m Remus.” The scrawny boy said quietly, “Can I sit in here?”

“Of course you can, Remus.” James said, a grin on his face. I nodded,

“Welcome aboard.”

Remus smiled, “Hi.”

Back then you were so timid and shy. It was a year later that James and I figured out your secret, and that was when we became inseparable. I will take this time to apologise, Remus, for taking so long to realize why you were always sick. I’m sorry that I sent Snivellus down the tunnel in our fifth year, and I’m sorry that now I must leave you in a world where no other Marauder stands. I believe I have broken a promise, my friend, for Peter has deserted us and James is gone. I can only hope that I will be reunited with him, and one day you will join us. I ask one thing of you, look after my godson, follow Nymphadora no matter what, and if you get the chance, kill the bastards who brought this upon us. I wish you a long life, my friend.

Dumbledore, I have only one thing to say to you, Thankyou. Thankyou for looking after Harry, for giving me the education I needed, for keeping Prongs and Lily as safe as you could. Thankyou for being such a tremendous Man, I will be forever in debited to you.

Harry James Potter, as I feel myself fall backwards I see your face. Do not mourn, my boy, for this laugh? This laugh on my face is how I wish to go. Quickly, painlessly, and in the heat of the battle. I remember the day you were born, the day I first held you and told you I would be there no matter what. I remember the day Lily and James died, I remember giving Hagrid my motorbike,

“Get him to safety.”

“Where are yeh’ going?”

“I’m going to make this right.”

“Wha’ happened, Sirius?”

“Peter’s what happened. I know Dumbledore wants Harry with Petunia, but I’m going to make sure I’ll still be there for him, no matter what.”

“Be safe, Sirius.”

“I will, Hagrid.”

I didn’t keep that oath, Harry, and I’m sorry. The worm outsmarted me and I was the one who rotted in Azkaban. I can’t thank you enough for saving me from the dementors, you are a brave man, Harry James Potter, and I will miss you. You remind me of James so much. I wish you luck in this battle against Voldemort, I have faith in you. We all do. Goodbye, my godson.

...

And I feel the air of the veil brush over me as I disappear, and on the other side? On the other side I see you, Prongs. I see you and your Flower and I know that this is heaven, for you and Lily both run to me, embrace me, and we’re sixteen again. I now know what they mean when they say it’s not bad to die, and I know why you’re here. You kept your oath, Prongs. You waited for me after life, and now we will wait together for Moony to join us, and then the Marauders will truly depart this earth.

First Fanfic ever, guys. I know it's dramatic, so dramatic it's almost humorous, but hey, I'm in a dramatic and serious mood. Please review and let me know what you think. I know it's strange, but I thought it was a good idea. Thanks for reading :)
