Chapter Four: Secret Admirer

Hermione was more excited than ever to meet her secret admirer. She even woke Luna at six a.m. because she couldn’t sleep. Luna groaned and told Hermione to go away but of course Hermione refused. Luna finally sighed in defeat and got out of bed. Her hair was a tangled mess and she looked like she just went through the war.

She ran a comb through her long blonde hair and she was able to see Hermione rocking on her heels through her mirror. “Calm down, Mia!” she turned away from the mirror. “You can go in a few hours!”

“A few hours?” Hermione whined, “but that’s too long!” She stomped her foot like a child.

Luna chuckled. She turned back to the mirror and continued to brush her hair. These next few hours were going to be long ones, and she knew it.

Harry awoke beside Ginny at around nine in the morning. He noticed she was still sleeping, so he tip-toed out of his room so he can go downstairs to see what Mrs. Weasley cooked them for breakfast. He ran into Ron in the kitchen. “Sorry mate.”

Ron was smiling wide. “No problem, man.”

Harry gave Ron a confused look. “Why are you so smiley this morning?”

“Oh, no reason.” He said humming a tune Harry didn't really understand.

Harry rolled his eyes. “Pansy?”

“Maybe…” he sounded like a child.

Both Ron and Harry jumped when they heard Ginny scream Harry’s name at the top of her lungs. “Great…” Harry mumbled to himself. He turned on his heel and headed upstairs. He walked into his and Ginny’s bedroom slowly, he really didn't want to get yelled at...again. “What’s the matter, dear?”

Ginny’s arms were crossed and she was sitting up on the bed. “I really have to talk to you…” she said seriously.

Harry got worried and sat on the edge of the bed. “Gin, what’s the matter?”

She uncrossed her arms and crawled closer to Harry. She hugged him and started sobbing into his shirt. “I-it’s…M-mum!” she cried.

Ron walked into their room. “Gin, do you know where mum is?”

Ginny sobbed even harder and Ron sat next to her also. “Ginny, talk to me! Tell me what’s wrong with mum?”

“S-she’s…very s-sick.”

Ron and Harry’s eyes widened. “What’s wrong with her, Gin?” Harry asked, trying to sound calm.

Ginny sniffled. “When she was out last night with dad, she caught a deadly virus that no one has the cure for yet.” Tears ran down Ginny’s face.

A tear escaped Ron’s eye as well, and Harry was on the verge of tears. Molly Weasley was like a mother to Harry, and he didn’t want to lose her too.

“Can you come with me Luna?”

Luna gave her best friend a look while she ate her eggs. “Come with you to meet your admirer? Why?”

“I don’t mean sit there with us, just hang out at the stores nearby and keep an eye on us?” she asked.

“And why in the world do you want me to do that?” Luna played with her eggs with her fork.

“I don’t know. I mean what if he’s a total creep? I need someone who can stuptify him when I give the signal.” Hermione was starting to sound crazy.

“Hermione, I met with him yesterday, and he’s not a total creep.” She thought for a second. “Well, not totally.” She emphasized ‘totally.’

Hermione’s eyes widened. “What?”

Luna started laughing. “I’m just kidding Hermione!”

Hermione was waiting by the door for Luna. Somehow, she convinced Luna to hang around in the stores near the fountain. Luna grabbed her coat and buttoned it up.

“Come on, Lee! Hurry up!” Hermione whined.

“I’m coming, Mia!” She finished with the last button and headed out the door with Hermione.

Luna held out her arm so they can aparate there. Hermione took it and their stomachs started spinning. The next thing they knew, they were standing in front of the fountain in the center of Hogsmeade.

“I’ve always hated that!” Hermione said, holding onto her stomach.

Luna smiled. “You should wait here for him. I’ll be in one of these stores if you need me, okay?”

Hermione nodded and Luna headed off to the first store she saw. She walked in there and saw potions and books everywhere. She’s never seen this store before. ‘It must be new,’ she thought to herself.

“Hello, may I help you?” A pretty girl with dark hair asked.

“No thank you, I’m just looking.” Luna gazed out the window and saw Hermione sitting on the steps waiting for her secret admirer. Luna hoped she wouldn’t freak out when she saw it was Draco.

“Hey,” the girl turned Luna around so she was facing her. “You look really familiar! Do I know you?”

“Er, I don’t know. Maybe we went to Hogwarts together?” She suggested.

The girl snapped her fingers. “That’s right! I think you were in the year younger than me. Don’t you recognize me?”

Luna studied the girl but had no clue who she was. “Uh, no sorry.”

The girl smiled, “I’m Pansy Parkinson! Now do you remember, Luna?”

Luna gave Pansy a look. “Oh yeah, you were the one who always called me loony and made fun of me whenever you had the chance to.”

“Trust me, Luna, I’ve changed. Just ask Ron!”

“Ron?” She was confused, “why would I ask Ron?”

Pansy bit her bottom lip. “I kind of met him again and he asked me to lunch and I accepted.”

“You went on a date with Ron? But don’t you hate the Weasley’s? You used to say they were traitors for hanging around muggles.”

She sighed. “I told you I’ve changed. I’m starting to see everyone in a brand new light.”

“Well that’s good, I guess.” Luna looked back to Hermione and saw her playing with the water. Draco hadn’t showed up yet. Luna turned back to Pansy so Pansy wouldn’t notice Hermione and go talk to her. “So, is this your store?”

Pansy looked around the place proudly. “Yeah, my dad owned it before and it was a broom shop. But when I turned twenty one he gave it to me and I made it a potions store with ingredients and books and such. Potions was always my favorite subject in Hogwarts.”

“That’s good,” Luna said.

“So, what made you come into my shop?” Pansy asked, trying to start conversation.

“I was just walking around and I haven’t seen this store before so I decided to come in and see what it was.” She said.

Luna could tell Pansy didn’t believe her but she didn’t care. She started to walk around the store and at the potions books. Luna hated potions class. The Hufflepuffs in her class were unbearable and the Ravenclaws were all jerks to her. She only liked potions when they made healing potions.

Luna saw that Hermione was getting impatient and it was true. Hermione was sitting there for fifteen minutes now and he still hadn’t showed up. She sighed heavily; she wanted to just go home now. She had a strong feeling in the pit of her stomach that he wasn’t coming, although she didn’t want to believe it.

She looked around and saw many couples her age holding hands and laughing. She always wanted someone to do that with, but she never met the right guy. Hopefully this was the one; hopefully her secret admirer would turn out to be the love of her life.

“Hermione Granger?”

Hermione suddenly turned around and saw none other than Draco Malfoy towering over her. She stood up. “What are you doing here, Malfoy?” She spat his name.

Draco sighed. “Listen to me, Hermione. I’m not here to fight with you..”

“Well then leave!” She interrupted. “I’m waiting for someone right now, so go!” She pointed to the opposite direction.

“Hermione, you have to listen to me.”

Hermione crossed her arms and tapped her foot. “What do you want, Malfoy?”

“First, call me Draco please.”

She rolled her eyes. “Fine then, what do you want Draco?” She had a hard time getting his name out because she never actually said it to his face.

“I want to tell you that-“

Draco sighed. “Great…” he muttered.

As if out of nowhere Pansy came out and hugged Draco from behind. “Long time no see, eh?”

“Pansy…” He didn’t want anything to do with her. He wanted Hermione to hug him from behind like that. Not her.

Hermione didn’t know that Pansy and Ron had a thing for each other so she felt a little jealous at the scene in front of her. Although she truly had no idea why.

“I haven’t seen you since my twenty second birthday over a year ago. What have you been up to?” She let go of him and was now standing in front of him, blocking him from Hermione.

“I’ve been…” He was going to give hints to Hermione. He wanted her to know he sent that letter more than anything right now. “Writing.”

“Writing?” Pansy asked, confused.

Hermione looked over Pansy’s shoulder at Draco. She was beginning to catch on and he knew it.

“Yes, I’ve been writing to this girl.” He looked at Hermione and saw her eyes widen.

“Oh, well good for you!” she smiled up at him.

Luna was watching the whole thing from the window of Pansy’s store. ‘This is better than cable.’ She thought to herself.

“Well, I guess I’ll see you around?” She asked him.

He nodded, “yeah.”

“Bye,” she hugged him and walked back into her store.

Hermione crossed her arms and gave Draco a look. “It was you? You sent me those letters?”

“Yeah,” he said softly.

“Why?” She slapped her hands against her thighs.

“Because I like you, Hermione. I’ve liked you since third year when you punched me in the face. If you don’t want to believe me then go ahead. I’ll just leave you alone now.” That was one of the hardest things Draco Malfoy ever had to say. He turned slowly and started to walk away.

Hermione grabbed his arm and pulled him back. “I believe you,” she whispered. She was on the verge of tears. “And I’ve kind of had a feeling for you since fourth year when I saw you the night of the Quidditch competition but I always told myself I shouldn’t think that way and that I was crazy.”

Draco stepped closer to her. “You’re not crazy.” He began stroking her cheek lightly. “I had the same problem, but eventually I couldn’t keep it inside anymore and I had to tell you in some way.”

Her eyes started to water. “I totally understand.” She muttered.

Luna was watching through the window. She was so excited they were actually getting along. When Draco leaned in, Luna placed her hands on the glass, hoping she would let him kiss her.

Draco leaned in to kiss Hermione. She was hesitant but closed her eyes and began to lean as well. Their lips brushed up against each other.

“Hermione?! What the hell are you doing?!”
