After all my classes finished, I avoided Beth, in order to avoid Remus, who I knew would have Peter hanging around, and James would be close behind and then hot on his heels would be the one I wanted to avoid the most; Sirius.
Dumping my bag in my quarters I grabbed my broom and flew out the window. The wind seemed to blow everything
but my worries away. Flying around I saw Elizabeth walking along with Christopher McLaggen, Jackie was trailing behind looking disgusted of her friend. A few steps away I saw Brian McDonald helping a small girls with the many books she was struggling to keep balanced. Benjamin Richardson was mucking around in a playful fight with his mates. I smiled and landing near the lake I sat down.
All my classmates I'd grown up with, and in all the years being in the same house, Beth and I could have been
really good friends with them. Instead, like a piece to a puzzle, we connected with Gryffindors and not just any Gryffindors; the Marauders. And I found love in the most unlikely person, someone I hadn't associated with until now, Sirius Black.
I had never been happier, and I knew Beth was extremely happy also. I was so worried that once I was turned back into a girl, that would be it,
poof! Gone as quick as it came; I'd lose Sirius and James and Peter would most likely turn their backs on me. I'd betray them by not telling them, no wonder I felt so scared to say anything. Everything would end up disastrous.
Standing to my feet; I had no choice, I had to tell Sirius I was a girl. Dumbledore was right, the truth was the right way to go. Also, I had to at least save Beth's happiness and Sirius' happiness, even if it meant that my own would be sacrificed.
Climbing back onto my broom I kicked off into the air. Arriving back into my quarter's window I saw Peter about to walk out.
“Peter!” I said, landing.
“Oh! Daisuke!” He squeaked. “Sirius is looking for you!”
“Thought he might be, let's go find him.” I said.
When we found Sirius, he was pretty angry. “Daisuke, where the fuck have you been?”
“Sirius we need to talk.” I said, ignoring his anger.
Grabbing my arm he pulled me to a secluded area. “What is it?” he asked, well more like demanded.
I took a deep breath. “Sirius, please swear you won't get angry?” Man who was I kidding; of course he was going to get angry!
“I won't.” He said slowly, he looked more worried than angry now.
“Ok, Sirius I'm a g-” I cut off, and cleared my throat. “Sirius I'm a g-”
Sirius cocked an eyebrow, I tried to say it again but the word 'girl' kept getting lodged in my throat and refused to come out. I became frustrated, and tears filled my eyes and taking a deep shaky breath I tried one more time.
“Sirius, I'm a g-”
“Padfoot!”
Sirius spun around and I saw a happy looking James rushing towards us. “You found him! We were worried mate!” James said stopping in front of us.
“Yup, he found me!” I said, wiping my eyes of any moisture that managed to escape.
“Prongs!” Sirius cried. “We are having our first couple crisis!”
James' smile disappeared. “Oh, shit sorry!” and backing away slowly, he turned and ran.
Shaking his head Sirius turned back to me, but it was too late, whatever courage I had, disappeared. Sirius placed a hand on my cheek and smiled softly. “Now what were you going to tell me Dai?”
I forced a smile and taking a deep breath I kissed him on the cheek. “I was going to say thank you for being a fantastic boyfriend!”
Sirius' eyebrows knitted and I knew he didn't believe that was what I was going to say, but he didn't question any further and taking my hand I walked with him, meeting with James around the corner, who had obviously been eavesdropping.
After dinner, which I had forced myself to eat so no questions were asked, in pretty much the same fashion we did these past few nights.
“
Orchideous!” Remus said, and a bunch of colourful flowers burst out from the tip of his wand, Beth giggled when we handed them to her. “For you m'lady.”
“Why thank you, they are beautiful.” Beth said, smelling them.
I folded my arms, and moved close behind.
“Who's up for a game of exploding snap?” James asked.
“Oooh me, me!” Peter said excitedly.
“We are too!” Remus said for both him and Beth.
“Sounds good James!” Sirius agreed turning to me he smiled. “How about it Dai, sound fun?”
“It does Siri, let's play.” I said smiling weakly.
Peter let out a cry of excitement and tackled Beth who let out a cry of laughter.
“Let her go Wormtail!” Remus said warningly, although amusement shone in his eyes.
Peter poked out his tongue, and he stopped tickling Beth. Smiling, James turned to me. “Daisuke, your quarters alright?”
I nodded. “Sure.”
James, Remus, Peter and Beth took off, leaving me alone with Sirius.
“You haven't said much tonight, you alright?” Sirius asked.
“Yeah, of course.” I lied.
Sirius nodded. “You can tell me anything remember?” He placed his hand on the bottom half of my back.
“I know Sirius.”
I could feel Sirius' gaze burn right through me, and I felt my chest tighten. When we got to my quarters only James was there waiting, setting up the cards.
“Where did the others run off too?” Sirius asked, kicking off his shoes and diving onto my bed.
“Bathroom,
cough, cough.” James said chuckling.
“Oh!” Sirius said chuckling also. “Finally, poor Moony needs some.”
“Needs what?” Peter asked in confusion as he too sat down.
“I might actually go to the bathroom too, be right back.” I said, spinning around I rushed out and into the Prefects bathroom, where Remus and Beth quickly pulled away from each other.
Shit. “Oh, guys sorry!” I apologised.
“No, it's ok Kana.” Remus said, clearing his throat.
Beth just bit her lip. “Kana are you ok?”
I nodded. “Yeah, sorry....”
I turned and left back to my room, but I stopped outside the door when I heard James and Sirius talking.
“I'm really worried that Daisuke is having second thoughts.” I heard Sirius say. “It was all good, now he's acting really distant.”
“Have you tried talking to him mate?” James asked sympathy in his voice.
“Yeah, I have … he's been trying to tell me something, and I'm worried it's not something good.” Sirius' voice broke off at the end.
“You mean, he wants to break up with you?”
“I don't know …” Sirius said shakily. “I really love him Prongs.”
“I know you do mate.” James said. “And I know for a fact he loves you too.”
I heard Sirius sigh. “And I'll be honest, I am missing female traits … but I am willing to give them up because I love him … maybe he is sensing that? What do you think Wormtail?”
“Padfoot.” Peter said softly. “I don't know, but it's going to be ok.”
“I-I hope so...”
I felt a hand upon my shoulder and I gasped in fright, I spun around to see Remus and Beth behind me. I guessed they had heard everything too.
“Kana.” Beth whispered, as she wiped away tears I didn't even know I was crying.
“Two more days, not even that.” I whispered. “I tried to tell him and I just can't, now look what's happening.”
“Maybe you aren't supposed to tell him yet.” Remus said softly.
“Maybe you should just leave the map lying around so he can find the truth out himself.” I replied, more harshly than intended; as I wiped away the rest of my tears.
Remus gave a nod. “Ok.”
“No! No, I take it back.” I said quickly, and taking a deep breath, I held my head high. “Right, lets go play.”
Turning around I walked back in.
“Finally! Could you guys take any longer?” James said.
“Sorry!” We apologised in unison.
*** *** ***
I couldn't sleep; I didn't allow Sirius to stay with me tonight. My bed covers felt like they were suffocating me, my pajamas felt as if they were suffocating me. Everything felt like it was suffocating me! Sighing I sat up and ran a hand through my hair, a jiggle of my door handle made me jump and lying back down I quickly closed my eyes. I heard my door squeak open and soft padding of feet walk in and the door close again. I felt someone throw something at the end of my bed and a light shine on my face.
“
Nox.” I heard Sirius' whisper.
It was Sirius.
I felt him lift the covers and climb in beside me, and wrapping me up in his arms I heard him let out a breath of satisfaction.
A tear slid down my cheek, and I slowly fell to sleep.
