This takes place two weeks after Hermione and Draco's incident in her flat. Thank you all so much for the wonderful reviews, if you take the time out to leave one I will always take the time out to reply to them.
Summary- "Sweet Lovebirds"
"Shut up" Draco snarled.
“So we’re agreed that the ball is going to take place here.” My mother said to the table of gathered women, myself, my two sisters and Narcissa.
“Does it have to be?” Daphne asked glaring at me a small sneer at the corner of her mouth. Something told me I wasn’t going to get an open-arm-welcome-to-the-family from her.
“Why where do you suggest?” Narcissa asked.
“Perhaps at the Malfoy manor, that is if you wouldn’t mind ‘Cissy.”
“No definitely not, this is her family manor even if you don’t see it as such.” My mother told my sister in a very commanding tone.
“I agree with you Astrid, this is Hermione’s home manor. If it to be a presentation of her as a Greengrass it has to take place here and not at my home, if it was held at the Malfoy manor then everyone would think that Draco had chosen his bride!” She laughed, whilst I felt the blood rise into my face making me looking more like a tomato than a human.
“She’ll have to meet all the pureblood families before the ball though.” My mother said talking to Narcissa more than anyone else at the table.
“Naturally. She’s still got to get a dress for the event, which reminds me, Hermione are you a virgin?” She asked so suddenly that it caught me off guard completely.
“Yes.” I whispered somewhat horrified that she’d asked in front of my family, but a wave of relief washed through me as I thought it was lucky that my father, Draco and Lucius weren’t there to hear that.
“Then we shall have you wearing white. So with that sorted, the decorations.” My mother continued promptly, whilst all the time I was trying to get my blush to vanish from my face.
“Can I please get to work?” I asked feeling impatient I’d been stuck in my ‘family’ manor for most of the day and all I wanted to do was be free of the pureblood’s.
“Oh, erm, sure we’ll send you an owl with the details. Don’t forget you have a dinner with the Parkinson’s tonight.” I gritted my teeth at the thought of having to put up with even more stuck-up-pureblooded-wizards/witches.
“I won’t forget mother.” I told her walking rapidly away from the room, once I had closed the door behind me I broke out into a sprint wanting to be as far away from all of it as possible. “Oof!” I exclaimed as I ran into a human wall of muscle.
“’Mione?”
“Draco?” I was helped up by him and dusted down my jeans. “What are you doing here?” I asked him as we continued to walk down the corridor it was a fortnight since the ‘incident’ and he’d moved out but still coming by to see me. It had been a joint decision to take things slightly slower than we had been doing.
“I’ve just been talking to your father, you?”
“Ball preparations, pure murder.” I explained he chuckled. “I saw that you’d rotated to the day shift for the Aurors.” I continued.
“Yeah, the graveyard shift wasn’t suiting me.”
“I’ll say.” I muttered.
“What was that?” He asked in a teasingly way, I gasped and began to giggle as he wrapped me into his arms his fingers tickling my waist.
“Draco- can’t- breathe!” I gasped tears streamed down my face from the laughter, he released me but didn’t let me fall which I would’ve done if he’d completely let me go.
“I think you can breathe if you can talk.” He told me, I turned around in his embrace facing him, he leant down capturing my lips tenderly. I moaned into his mouth as his fingers traced small circles on the small of my back.
“Draco, I have to get, back to work.” I told him through three sweet short kisses.
“I know so do I.” He told me as we entered what was my bedroom, crossing over the room to where the fireplace was. “Ladies first.” He told me handing me some floo powder.
“So nice to see that Chivalry isn’t dead.” I muttered stepping into the fireplace I saw his smirk as I began to spin around before reaching the office of the Aurors. Draco stepped from the fireplace a couple of seconds later. “So why have you changed over?” I asked as we walked through the maze of small offices leading towards our own.
“Because I decided to go for the light, no longer the dark.” I smirked.
“Oi, ‘Mione, Malfoy!” I turned to see Ron jogging up towards us. “Harry wants you to go on this mission. It’s to capture a once thought to be death eater, he’s the last of them. That is if you don’t count ferret.” He muttered but I saw Draco’s jaw clench in anger.
“OK Ron we’ll get right on it. Won’t we Draco?” I asked trying to prevent any argument from ensuing thanks to Ron’s big mouth.
“What exactly did you mean by that Weasley?” Draco asked his voice calm but a storm brewed beneath his calm exterior.
“Exactly what you think it did Malfoy.” Ron challenged calling back from down the corridor where he’d just walked.
“Don’t start this again!” I pleaded but too late. Two spells clashed, I stepped between the two wizards. “For goodness sake you’re both aurors, no longer the school boys at Hogwarts!” Ron shot a spell towards Draco I leaned back as it caught me. “OW!” I screamed at the spell grazed my arm burning through my robes and flesh.
“Hermione? Malfoy, Ron what on earth is going on?” Harry demanded to know walking towards us where Ron and Draco were crowded around me.
“This is all your fault ferret.” Ron hissed, Draco smoothly took my arm in his warm hands taking his wand from his robes and healing the wound.
“I wasn’t the one who threw the hex Weasley.”
“Gentlemen please can we stop the name calling and patheticness?” I asked.
“Sorry.” They both mumbled I shook my head in disbelief at the pair of them.
“Will someone please tell me what’s going on.” Harry asked watching us.
“Ron came and told us about the possibility of the last death eater, then these two dunder-heads began to take bites out of each other.” I told him looking between the two wizards between the two of them.
“Right, Ron I think we’d better have a talk about you perhaps changing shifts, Hermione sorry you got hurt but if you and Malfoy wouldn’t mind.”
“No problem Harry we’re going.” I told him as Draco and I walked past them and back towards the fireplaces which was also the only apparation point in the auror offices.
“On three.” Draco whispered to me, as he placed his arms around me. “One, two, three.” I smiled as he counted reassuring me as a partner would.
We landed at a deserted mansion, we split up for a few seconds, scouting out the large room in front of us. “Anything?” I whispered Draco shook his head but beckoned me to follow. I did so, placing my feet where he did just a second later. “Promise me something.” I whispered, he turned his head slightly towards me. “If I say run, then run.”
“Only if you promise me the same.” I cursed under my breath and I heard his chuckle though a lot quieter than it normally was. “Did you hear that?” He asked suddenly, we both paused, my heart hammered so loudly against my chest I was sure he could hear it. Then we heard something breaking, we didn’t glance at each other but sprinted towards the sound. Draco flew ahead of me, I took what I assumed to be a back way. Draco was taking the longer way around, but herding the person towards me.
“Got yah!” I tackled the guy to the ground, he elbowed me hard in the ribs. “Bloody hell!” I cursed as the air was knocked from my lungs.
“Alright on your feet.” I heard Draco’s cold voice say I saw his wand was pointing at the guy’s throat.
“Ah Malfoy. Still working for the light side?” He asked standing up, I snatched my wand from the floor and had it pointing at his wrists muttering an incantation which forced his wrists behind his back before being bound by unbreakable rope. “You failed us all.” He told Malfoy.
“Just move.” Draco spat hauling the guy to his feet. “You coming?” He asked me, I shook my head.
“I’ll stay see if there’s anything which can help incriminate him.” Draco nodded.
“See you soon.” He told me.
“Sweet lovebirds.”
“Shut up.” Draco snarled and apparated to the ministry, I smiled thinking about it, before getting on with my job. This was something I’d missed since Harry and Ron had become OTT protective of me not allowing me out onto missions. I had a sneaky suspicion that Draco had a hand in allowing me to go back out on missions. Slowly I searched through the debris from both the death eater living there and what nature had reclaimed as its own. A pop broke me off mid thought and working from pure instinct at being in a hideout I almost cursed the intruder.
“Hey, I come in peace.” He told me, I sighed putting my wand back into my robes.
“Sorry.”
“It’s fine.” He told me a smirk playing on his lips. “Found anything.”
“Nah, if he’s done anything he’s covered his tracks too well. Where’s the prisoner?” I asked hoping it was someone mean interrogating him.
“Weasley, and Harry have taken his interrogation giving us the afternoon off to search this place. Harry doesn’t want anything missed.”
“Who does he think I am?” I muttered.
“Someone very smart, loving and thorough. Also that you’re committed to your work.” Draco told me as we left the room I’d just searched going through a door to the next.
“And how long did it take you to persuade him that I could cope with field work?” I asked him.
“Well first there was a few hours of giving him all the points why you should be allowed to be working in the field again. Then a couple of hours at him lecturing me about your safety. At which I retaliated by offering him the possibility of us working as partners.” I laughed thinking about it.
“And what did Harry do?” I asked him, he smirked at me.
“Eventually agreed we seemed to be getting on well enough but warned me if I so much as hurt you, he wouldn’t hesitate in injuring me.” He told me a little bit too gleefully but I didn’t say anything but smiled at how protective they still were of me.
