"Hey," Katie said casually. I gave her a confused look.
"Hi," I replied slowly and Sam smirked at Katie.
"So," Sam started. "How was it, birthday girl?"
I blushed. "Good. We went to dinner and a play."
"What did you get as a gift?" he asked.
"A Firebolt," I said, and giggled as Sam's jaw dropped.
"Who got a Firebolt?" Mason asked as he sat down.
"Emma did," Katie said.
I should have expected that something was up, especially when Katie and Sam kept exchanging looks. Katie ditched me after school, while I was waiting for my parents to pick me up. Sam came over to me, looking nervous.
"Um, hey, Emma," he began hesitantly. "Uh-"
"Yes?" I asked, looking at him.
"Iwasjustwonderingifyouwouldgooutwithme?" he asked in a rush. He sighed. "Sorry. "
"Excuse me, but could you repeat that?" I said, looking at him. He was practically sweating.
"Uh, can you be my girlfriend?" he asked slowly. I gasped and his face fell. I started smiling.
"Of course, Sammy," I said, using an old childhood nickname that he used to be called. He blushed.
"Good. Do you want to go see a movie or something? Or maybe you can come over to my house?" he said.
"Yeah, sure," I said. I was so happy, I finally had a boyfriend. He suddenly leaned in and gave me a kiss on the lips.
His lips were warm and a little moist. We had been kissing for what seemed like a long time, when a someone cleared their throat. We broke apart, guilty.
My father stood in front of us, looking slightly amused and slightly angry. He looked at us both. Then he smirked.
"So, Mr Carter," he began, "I was just wondering if I can take my daughter home. Now, if you could kindly keep your lips off her, I'll take her with me. "
I blushed and followed Dad outside to the apparation point. I glared at him. He noticed my glare and just smirked.
"Dad!" I hissed when we got home. "Why did you do that?"
"Mind your tone, Emma. I did that because I do not like having a boy with his lips all over my thirteen-year-old daughter. Kissing can lead to. . . other things," Dad said. Mum walked into the room and watched our conversation.
"Dad," I said patiently. "I don't need the sex talk. Mum beat you to it. She gave it to me when I turned twelve. Now, if you want to save yourself, and me, some embarrassment, don't start on that. Okay?"
"Lily?" Dad asked as he turned to her, a questioning look on his face.
"Yeah, I gave it to her, because that's how old I was," Mum said, a slightly embarrassed look on her face.
"Has Harry gotten The Talk?" I asked.
"No," Dad said. "I should probably give it to him soon. I've seen Fifth Years. . . . never mind."
"Awkward," I sang as I headed to my room.
"Wait, young lady!" Dad called. I stopped, turned around, and faced him.
"Yeah?" I asked.
"So, Carter, is he your boyfriend?" Dad asked.
"Yeah. . ." I said slowly, wondering what he was getting at.
"If he hurts you, I might have to kill him," Dad warned.
"Fine, Dad," I said, heading back up to my room. He wouldn't really kill Sam, right? I think I was really in love with him, because he was so cute and my heart fluttered every time I saw him.
Sam took me out to ice-cream on Friday night. Mum dropped us off at a Muggle ice-cream shop called Abby's Ice-Cream Shoppe.
We were sitting at a table, talking. We were talking quietly about our school and who we like and don't like. He leaned in a gave me a kiss. The kiss was long.
"Carter!" a voice said. "I'd really appreciate it if you kept your hands off my daughter."
We broke apart. I looked up into the face of my amused/angry father. He mock glared at me.
"Dad!" I hissed. People were staring, wondering what was going on. He slid into the seat across from us.
"Yes?" he asked innocently.
"Are you following us?" I asked in an angry whisper.
"Maybe," he whispered back. He glared at the people who were staring at us. They looked away and pretended that they didn't know what was going on.
"Dad," I whined.
"Remember what I said," he said. "That'd I kill him if he did anything."
Sam visibly gulped. I gave him a quick kiss on the lips to tell him that I wouldn't let my father hurt him. He gave me a weak smile.
"Dad, you said that you'd only kill him if he hurt me!" I said. "I'm going to tell Mum."
Dad got up, and walked outside. Sam paid and then we followed us outside. Dad apparated Sam home, without letting me give Sam a goodbye kiss saying, 'You've kissed enough', then he apparated us home.
I walked into the house, suddenly angry. I stormed into the kitchen, startling Mum who was washing dishes. She finished washing them with magic.
"What's wrong, Em?" she asked.
"Dad!" I said. "That's what's wrong."
She sighed. "What did he do?"
"He followed Sam and I to the ice-cream shop, then interrupted us when we were kissing!"
"Severus," she sighed. I hadn't noticed Dad come in. He had been standing silently behind me. "Please, just leave them alone. They're thirteen, I doubt that they're going to be doing anything more than kissing."
"Fine, Lily," he said. "But if he hurts her. . .."
"Severus, I don't need this right now. I don't feel good, and I don't want to fight with you and Emma about her boyfriend. Alright?" Mum said, then she started crying.
I went upstairs, leaving Dad to comfort her. I couldn't really deal with Mum's mood swings. Yesterday, she had yelled at me for having one of my shoes out of place. After that, she calmed down, then started crying.
Two days later, on Sunday morning, I had a letter waiting from Harry. I gave Hedwig a piece of bacon and she left. I started reading the letter.
Hey! I've missed you. I'm so excited about the baby. I hope Mum doesn't lose him, that'd be horrible.
Anyway, Dad's told me that you've been caught kissing that boyfriend of yours. Dad told me that he was Sam Carter. Sam's my friend, but if he hurts you, I'll kill him. No one hurts my little sister and gets away with it.
Dad gave me the Talk earlier this week. It was SO embarrassing. He was, too. I started laughing half-way through and he had to give me a Calming Draught. I took it, but my body fought it off and I started laughing again. Dad then gave up and I told him that I'd understood about. . . .that.
Well, I've got a boat load of homework, because we've got O.W.L.'S this year. Hermione is helping me out and Ron is complaining about the amount of homework.
I finished reading and wrote a reply. I told him about what Sam and I had done lately, and that Mason and Katie would probably start dating soon. They keep flirting.
