The Train slowly pulled up to platform 9 ¾ I looked over at my boyfriend Albus Potter, grinning. He entangled his fingers with mine bringing my hand up to his lips. This was going to be one of the best summers I’ve ever had. Now that I knew Al wouldn’t be torturing me senseless. I was going to be staying at the Potter house this summer my dad had made arrangements for me to stay, which was peculiar of him. I loved being at the Potter residence. Their home was beautiful and very clean, well except for James’ room, it was a sty. I was afraid to see it now, he’s been out of school for a whole year it was probably going to look horrible. Like five consecutive F5 tornadoes came through the room. We spotted where Al’s family was we walked up to them. Mr. and Mrs. Potter both pulled me into a tight hug. James wedged himself in front of his parents.
“Gee mum, can’t I see my best friend!” James engulfed me in a huge bear hug.
“Jay I can’t breathe,” I choked out.
“Oh Merlin sorry,” James let go he grabbed my shoulders. Staring straight into my eyes, “There’s something different about you.” He studied me for a second. Al took my hand in his, trying to keep contact with me. Desperately hoping James wouldn’t murder him. We hadn’t exactly explained to James what the nature of our relationship really was. Heck we didn’t even tell him what happened. “Are you in love?” he asked. I grinned at James, “With whom?”
“Take a wild guess James,” Al said quietly. James looked down and saw our hands tangled together. He dropped his arms, nervously running his hand through his hair.
“Jay, say something, please?” I said. He was not taking this well. He let out a deep breath.
“I… How? When? Why?”
“Blame Rose,” Al said.
“You will do no such thing Albus Potter,” Rose said she gave James a quick squeeze. “The twit pissed me off so badly that he ran into a closet and I happened to lock him in if I had known poor Andy was in there I would have let her out.”
“Jay, we didn’t know how to tell you.” I said softly. “Would you have believed us if we had told you, or would you just think we were pulling your leg.”
“I…” James closed his mouth.
“Please don’t be mad at me,” I said. “I missed you far too much to have you be mad at me.” I said.
“I’m not mad,” James said. “Just shocked, I didn’t think that this would happen.” James smiled, “I’m happy for you, you look good. I mean you always look good, but when you got on the train to go to school you looked miserable now you look happy.” He wrapped his arm around my shoulders and we headed to the Potter’s car my hand still in Al’s. I was happy that James wasn’t mad at me for being with Al. I was sitting in between Al and James in the back we had a long ride to the Potter estate.
“Andy,” Mrs. Potter addressed me. “You have one more year of school am I correct?”
“Yes Ma’am, one more.” I replied.
“What are you planning to do once you’re out?” Mr. Potter asked.
“Well I really want to be get into the Healing potions ward at St. Mungos.”
“Really,” Mrs. Potter asked.
“Yes,”
“She could do it mum she’s extremely good a potions, she puts me to shame.” Al said. He was top of his class while I was top of mine. I still did better in potions than he did. But he was better a defensive skills than I was. Mrs. Potter was grinning like mad, “Mum?”
“Don’t Mum me Albus, it’s just you two are just so perfect for each other, Al wants to be a Healer. I looked at him. He hadn’t told me that.
“I didn’t know that,” I said “Al, why didn’t you tell me?”
“I wasn’t sure if I’d get into Healer school, but I got my acceptance letter the other day, I wanted to talk to my parents about it before I made a final decision.”
“You got your acceptance letter?” Mr. Potter asked.
“Yes,” Al said.
“I’m proud of you,” Al’s face turned red. He stared at his lap. We sat in silence for a few minutes. “Lil’s you’ve been unnervingly quiet, what’s up?”
“I don’t really want to talk about it,” Lily grunted. Mrs. Potter looked at me, I had no Idea what was going on, Lily had been seen rarely the last few weeks of school. No one knew what was up with her. I shrugged. Al traced circles with his thumb on the back of my hand.
When we finally pulled up to the Potter estate James took care of my bags he brought them to Lily’s room. Lily and I were used to spending summers this way, me and her sometimes had girls night, she was my best girl friend.
“Andy we’ve got some catching up to do!” James said.
“Yeah, tree house?” James and I built a tree house the first time I came for an extended period of time we used to sit up there and pretend all sorts of things James was a giant kid up till his sixth year, I was in fourth.
“Yup tree house.” James ginned like a small child. James grabbed my hand and dragged me along. We passed Albus on the way out.
“We’re just catching up I’ll see you later,” I called back to Al, who was laughing. James pushed me up to the ladder first. I hated it when he acted like a gentleman last minute. I climbed up and took my spot and he took his. The place had been fixed up and magic had been used on it to make it bigger and roomier. “So…”
“Are you and Al really together?”
“Yeah,” I said. “He’s just been I don’t know how to describe it, he told his friends that if they couldn’t stand me then they needed to leave cause I was there to stay. And he’s just been so sweet. He’s not been forcing me into anything I don’t want to do. He’s supportive, like you.”
“I can’t believe it.”
“What about you?”
“I er… met someone.”
“Well tell me about her.” I demanded.
“She a tiny little red headed girl, and by tiny I mean she’s shorter that Gran Weasley.” James said. “She’s a little crazy but she’s super hot.”
“So what’s the problem?” I asked
“I’m an ass,” He frowned. “I’m practically head over heels for her and she’s only interested in being friends. I understand that it’s because she’s seeing someone but that someone is a jerk.”
“Who is she dating?” I had to find out. James usually had no problems with people.
“Damon McLaggon.”
“Then why don’t you just be friends with her, because if things go sour in the relationship she’ll have someone to complain to. Damon McLaggon? He is a real scum bucket.”
“You know you really are good at advice you should be the advice columnist at the Prophet.” James said. I rolled my eyes. “I’ll see if I can arrange some sort of hang out thing so you can meet her.”
“Wait what’s her name you never even said her name.”
“Alyssa Voorhees,” James told me.
“James you have a girlfriend?” Albus asked popping his head into the tree house.
“Yeah, and my stupid brother stole her from me.” James said as Al plopped himself next to me.
“What a jerk,” Al said. We laughed and Joked for a couple of hours Lily eventually joined us. She told us why she was crabby. This made Al and James, want to beat up the kid that she had been dating. She assured them that she’d already taken care of that. Mrs. Potter eventually called us for dinner and we headed inside.
