A/N: Hi guys! I'm sorry this chapter is so short, but it was really hard for me to write. I promise the next one will be longer. Enjoy!
Bubbles. At first, that was all Godric could see. Then, he saw a dark shape up ahead. It was Rowena! Godric swam with all his might until Rowena was right in front of him. Godric grabbed Rowena by the hand and hauled her toward the edge. He helped Rowena out of the river and then climbed out himself.
“You s-saved m-m-me,” shivered Rowena.
“Yeah, I guess I did,” replied Godric, modestly. “My mother’s going to kill me, though. I’m not supposed to be down here.”
“Really? I didn’t know your mother knew about this.”
“ Yeah, she knows. She doesn’t know what’s at the bottom of the stairs, but she’ll figure out where we’ve been when she sees us all soaking wet.
“We can stay down here to dry.”
“Is that okay with you?”
“Yeah that’s fine.”
“Your clothes will dry faster if they lay out flat…”
Rowena glanced sideways at Godric; she knew exactly what was going through his mind. “Honestly, Godric, I know what you’re thinking. They’ll dry soon enough.”
***
Rowena sat next to Godric at the base of the spiral staircase. Her clothes were still slightly damp and her hair hung around her face in no particular shape or form.
“Rowena?” asked Godric.
“Yes?”
“Do you like me?”
“Of course, Godric.”
“No, I mean really like me.”
“Of course. You’re my best friend.”
“I mean really, really like me.”
“What…oh, Godric I, um…” Godric leaned closer to Rowena. He was almost too close. He parted his lips slightly and pushed them against Rowena’s.
Rowena moved backward, breaking the kiss. Godric looked at her, hurt. “I thought…I thought that we could-“ he began.
“Godric, it can’t be this way. You’re my best friend! You always have been. I don’t want to ruin that.”
“But, Rowena, we could still be friends-“
“No! It could never be the same. What would happen if something went wrong with our relationship? We won’t be able to forget it and go on being friends!”
“But Rowena-“
“Godric, this isn’t what I want. At least not now. Maybe in a couple of years.” Rowena stood up and turned to go back up the spiral staircase.
"Rowena, wait! Please listen." Rowena turned back around and stood with her arms crossed. " Rowena, I've loved you since the day you were born. We grew up together. As we got older, we went our seperate ways, but I still loved you. I would die for you."
"I'm sorry, Godric. I love you as a brother and nothing more," said Rowena as she turned to go up the spiral steps.
"I've always loved you and I always will," said Godric. "Don't forget that."
***
Rowena sat on her bed and stared at the wall. She didn’t know what to make of what had happened that afternoon. She and Godric had been best friends for their entire lives, but could they possibly be more than friends? Rowena didn’t know and she didn’t want to risk it.
The more Rowena thought about her and Godric, the more she wondered if ever things could be the same after that afternoon. He had told her how he felt. Rowena had treated him horribly without meaning to. The truth was that Rowena felt the same way toward Godric, but she wasn’t about to admit it. She was afraid of what might happen and how others would react. Rowena fell into a light doze, her head still spinning with thoughts of Godric.
A/N: There you have it! Again, I'm sorry it's so short. In the next chapter we will meet Salazar and possibly Helga. Please, please, please leave a review!!! Only two people have reviewed my story so far. (Thank you LunaTheDeathEater and _DearMyLove_!)
