All the students were gathered in the Great Hall, many still in their pajamas. With the rapid sense of panic ripping through everyone of us, it was quite hard to think.
“I ask you to move quickly and calmly and do what your Prefects-” Professer McGonagall started but was cut off by a high pitch, cold voice. There was no trace of where it came from. It seemed to be echoing against the ceiling and walls and bounded in every direction possible all around the Great Hall.
“I know you’re preparing to fight,” it said snidely. There were screams amongst the students. “You cannot fight me though. I don’t want to kill you. I have such respect for the teachers at Hogwarts. I don’t want to spill magical blood.”
There was a silence throughout the Great Hall. Half of my family stood with me while the other half was with the Order, manning the grounds. We stood just as still and soundless as those around us.
“Give me Potter,” the cold voice rang again. I could only guess that it was from the man we were fighting. The man who’d caused this whole war. “and none shall be harmed. Give me Harry Potter and you will be rewarded. You have until midnight.”
Everyone in the room turned to Harry. No one moved. No one made even the slightest step towards him to simply hand him over to Voldemort.
“Well, he’s right there!” shouted a girl in Slytherin. “Potter’s there! Someone grab him!”
Again, no one made any sort of move towards Harry.
“Thank you, Miss Parkinson,” said Professer McGonagall in a clipped tone. “You will exit the Hall first with Mr. Filch if the rest of your house will follow.”
There were loud rumblings from the Slytherins as they all trooped out of the Hall.
“Ravenclaw, follow on!” ordered Professor McGonagall. Table by table the four Houses exited. While the Slytherin table was completely deserted a few Hufflepuffs remained while even more Ravenclaws sat in their seats. About half the Gryffindors remained behind as well, apparently willing to fight.
“C’mon, let’s go,” announced Alice quietly to Esme, Rosalie and I. We began to follow her out onto the grounds to help secure the castle in the exact opposite direction where the under aged students were going as they were making there way to the Hogsmeade train station. Just as we were out and free from the crowd a strong arm clasped my shoulder and whipped me around.
******* Ok, to make these scenes more powerful, you could listen to some of the Twilight soundtrack if you have it. For this particular scene, play “Bella is Part of the Family“. I hope it makes it more enjoyable! ***************
“Where are you going?” said Derrick urgently.
“I have to help my family,” I said in the same tone. Alice, Esme, and Rosalie apparently hadn’t noticed that I was no longer with them. They continued down the hallway without me.
“You’re not fighting. It’s not safe!” he exclaimed.
“Derrick, my family needs me,” I explained, trying to calm my voice. “Go with the rest of the underage students. Be safe with your family.”
“I’m not leaving you,” he said immediately.
“They’re checking to make sure no underage students stay. You won’t make it by them,” I said back. I couldn’t stand to have him stay here. So vulnerable to the dangers that were sure to take place.
“Do you think they’re going to check a wolf?” Derrick asked with a slight smile.
“Derrick, no,” I pleaded him. Why couldn’t he just listen to me and leave?
“What, you think I‘m going to let you have all the fun? No way! Plus I need to know that you’re safe,” he informed.
“Derrick, you don’t need to--,”

Just then Derrick pressed his lips towards mine. My breath shortened. My heart would of stopped if it was beating. We stood there for about two seconds before he pulled his face away.
“What was that for?” I whispered gently.
“Just in case I don’t get the chance after tonight,” he said softly.
“Don’t say that,” I winced.
“Be careful,” he said. His beautiful brown eyes seemed to sparkle as they gazed straight into my copper, bronze ones.
“You too,” I said sensitively.
With that he left my side without a trace. I watched him as he bounded down the hall and turned the corner.
I stood there. Frozen to the spot. You would have thought that someone had just shot a stunning spell at me. I blinked a couple times, trying to come back to my senses. What had just happened? Had he really, actually kissed me? A sudden wave of realization swept over me. It had been real. There was something between us. Something strong and something that, on this very night, could immediately end right as it had just gotten started.
Only a couple seconds passed before I left the spot at which I stood. I quickly followed in the direction that Esme, Rosalie, and Alice had run trying to catch up with them. It wasn’t that hard. Before I knew it I was outside in the cool air. Even though the softness of it soothed my face, it still felt eerie. Like something was drastically wrong.
I stood with the rest of my family and a few members of the Order of the Phoenix that I didn’t recognize. That’s when a sudden wave of some malodorous stench filled my nostrils. It was the heavy smell of a werewolf. I could tell it wasn’t Lupin, nor Derrick. It smelt like there were more than one or two or fifteen. I had a hunch that perhaps this was the smell of Death Eater wolves that had gotten to Voldemort and fought on his side.
How close could they be? I looked at Emmett’s watch as he stood next to me, prepared and ready to fight. It was 11:45, no 11:46. Only about fifteen more minutes and then it was time.
As I looked down the line of the people standing by the castle, protecting it as if it was there life, I noticed that my family tensed a little. At the same moment a new smell filtered the air. This smell made me a bit more apprehensive than the last. Not only was there a mighty odor, but I saw a mental picture strike my head. Tall, strong, pale, and equipped creatures flashed behind my eyes. Mr. Weasley had been right. Voldemort had gotten vampires on his side.
I took a deep breath. Even though I was made for fighting, I still felt unprepared. No one had ever taught me. I didn’t know any sort of technique.
I felt, for the first time in forty-four years, since I’d ever become a vampire, afraid.
Out of the corner of my eye I saw Edward glance at me. I turned to look at him knowing that he himself knew what I was thinking. He gave me an approving nod that clearly said “it’s going to be ok.” Was it though?
Jasper gave me a momentary look as well, that at the same time, calmed me. That’s when I realized that everything was going to be ok. My family was there for me. There were tons of people out there to help us fight. I didn’t have to go through this alone. No one had to do this alone. We were there together. Everyone. We were going to fight as hard as we could. Fight for what was right. Fight till the end.
