The eyes that met mine made me feel like I fell through thin ice on a frozen creek. The silver-blue-gray sent a chill down my spine. They flashed a show of interest in them so fast, I think I might have imagined it. Before I could stop myself I was standing in front of the owner of the eyes that held so much anger and hatred in them for me. If looks could kill, Draco Malfoy would have killed me and my two best friends in first year.
As he looked down upon me I noticed that his hair had grown and his bangs now hung in his eyes. As I looked at his handsome facial features (man, had he matured) I felt my facial expression relax. While this happened, one of his perfect white blond brows slowly crept up.
“What do you want Mudblood?” Malfoy's use of the horrid name 'mudblood' still stung after all these years. Yet, it was getting really old. I started to glare at him, then heard a voice from behind.
“I believe he asked you a question, piece of dirt!” Gregory Goyle was standing behind me, his dark hair in a mess and he was wearing a t-shirt that said great in bed... can sleep all day.
“I'm surprised you even decided to show your face again without Crabbe by your side,” I said, and the glare I got in return meant I had hit a nerve. He slowly raised raised his hand and it was coming down fast. I raised my hands for protection when a white, slim piano playing hand grabbed Goyle's wrist and thrust it down to his side.
“Didn't your parents ever teach you not to hit a girl? Even if it's Granger,” Malfoy said, standing in front of me while scolding Goyle. He sounded really mad, but I couldn't tell if he was as he had his back to me. I noticed Goyle hang his head in shame when I looked over Malfoy's shoulder.
Before Malfoy could turn around and before I could thank him, I was trapped in a bear hug. I felt like I couldn't breath. Panic reached my face and when Malfoy turned around he looked concerned, but he looked up and he grimaced. Right then, I knew it was my favorite boy-who-will-never-die. Harry Potter. People call him the-boy-who-lived, yet Harry, Ronald Weasley, and I would always joke and call him the-boy-who-wouldn't-and-will-never-die.
What snapped me out of my mind ramble was a flash of bright red-Weasley hair. Ron's beaming face was looking at me. When I looked over his shoulder Malfoy was gone.
Wonder where he went... I bet he didn't want to get yelled at by Harry or Ron... poor guy, he just saved me from getting horribly slapped and he can't even stick around for me to thank him. Wish I could just see that cute face one more ti-
“Hermione?” Harry's worried face was in front of me and Ron looked concerned. Just then I realized I was breathing hard and sweating like I had just been running. I felt a little light headed from the breathing. I swiped the back of my hand over my forehead I took a deep breath ready for them to ask what was going on between Malfoy and Goyle that I had witnessed. Instead I was bombarded with questions of the summer.
We were catching up because I spent my summer finding my parents in Australia and spending time with them for all of summer as an apology for sending them away. I was telling them about our trip to America when Ginny, my biggest and best friend in whole world (who was a girl – thank Merlin), jumped in between me and the boys and hugged me.
“Oh Hermione! I've missed you so much!” She released me and stepped back to look me in the eyes. She gave me her 'we need to talk' look and then smiled. “I got my prefect badge in the mail! So now I have to ask! Did you get head girl?” she asked with a smile that could light the darkest of caves, but I couldn't help but frown at her question.
“ I didn't even get prefect... I guess I didn't qualify because this technically is the second time I'll be in 7th year.” I really did think that I didn't qualify. I mean really, last year was crazy, Ron and I went with Harry, found all the horcruxes and got in a fight with the Death Eaters. We found out Harry was the last horcrux and he died. He came back to life then he killed Voldemort. Fun right? Wrong! Now, the summer was fun... I finally got to relax, be with my mother and father, read Hogwarts: A History for the millionth time, and I celebrated my birthday because I had it while we were searching.
“ Oi! Luna!” Ron's yelling brought me back and I turned to see Ron's girlfriend Luna Lovegood. When they were standing in front of each other they kissed. It was short and sweet, but you could feel the love behind it. They broke apart and turned to see all of us grinning at them. Ron turned bright red and Luna just smiled back.
Ron had started liking Luna ever since he saw her at the Yule Ball in fourth year. When he finally said something to her she asked him out. It was actually very funny, hadn't it been in front of his twin brothers, it would have been cute. But Fred and George were right there to have the 'talk' with the two of them. Luna sat there interested in all of it while Ron was as red as his hair.
“We should get in our compartment,” Ginny said, after she said that I looked at my watch.
“Oh! We should!” I exclaimed as I turned. Then I realized, I was the only one without a significant other. My smile faltered a little and Ginny noticed.
“Are you alright?” she asked me with a little more concern than was needed.
“I guess, I just wish I had someone,” I said shrugging. Ginny wrapped me in a hug then used the words I used on her when she thought Harry would never ask her out.
“You know as well as I do that there is someone out there for everyone. He's just going to show up when you least expect it.” She pulled back and wiped away tears that I didn't know I shed. I pulled my long sleeve over my hand and wiped the rest away.
“Oh great, now I have to re-do my eye make up,” I exclaimed when I saw black on my sleeve. Ginny giggled as she took Harry's hand in hers. “Okay, so lets go before I have a melt down." We all laughed as we walked on the train. Our laughs were stopped short due to feeling like we were all slapped in the face by the new rule. The steal sign that stated the rule was screwed up right inside of the door.
Printed in black bold letters the sign said Only Four to a Compartment. When Four Kids Are in a Compartment the Doors Will Only Let Those Four In and Out.
We all froze gawking at the sign that said one of us would have to go sit somewhere else. I looked around the group of my closest friends, cleared my throat and announced that I would sit somewhere else. Luna grabbed my shoulder and turned me to face her. Her eyes weren't their normal glow as she smiled
“No, no, it's quite alright. I will sit somewhere else. I mean, I am not a Gryffindor like the rest of you," she said, and at that Ron grabbed her hand and gave it a squeeze.
He didn't notice that I was watching him while he stared longingly at Luna. I plastered on a smile as I protested. “I'm fine! I swear. I'll just find the Patil twins and sit with them.” They all started to protest against me, but I held up a hand and spoke louder then all of them, “REALLY!” they all quieted down and so did I, “I'll be fine. Really! I'll see you when we get to Hogwarts.”
They all studied me, and it was beginning to feel like I had hurt all of their feelings (except for Ron who looked like he could kiss me for letting him be with her...) then, all at once, they gave me good bye hugs, saying things close to 'see you at Hogwarts' or ' see you in the hall'. Ron's stuck with me though. As he hugged me he whispered, “Thank you so much for letting Luna stay with me.”
“Well, I know if it was the other way around, you would do the same for me,” I whispered back. When we separated we were grinning like fools. Then I left down the hall.
I turned after a while of caring everything I charmed my luggage to follow me. Normally the boys would be gentlemen and carry my suite case while I carried my toiletries and Crookshanks' cat carrier.
I found the Patil twins and they had gotten boyfriends, I didn't know about, last year. They wanted to all sit together and because I understood, just like Ron, I let them. Just out of curiosity, I checked if the rule was telling the absolute truth. After the door closed behind them, I tried to open it and it wouldn't budge. But Padma opened it easily. “What's going on?” she asked.
“Oh, I was just testing the rule. Your door won't budge because all four of you are in there.” I explained.
She giggled and said, “Oh, okay. Well, see you around,” she said as she closed the door again.
I had gotten to the back of the train and the compartments were smaller so there was a separate sign that said the same as the other, but only two people could go into these. The train's horn wailed letting everyone know they only had two minutes left before the train departed for Hogwarts. I started to head for the four people compartments again when I was pushed to the side and into an open door of a compartment by the mob of rushing students getting on.
I closed my eyes, getting ready for the pain, but instead I fell into a strong back, we both started to fall, but the other person turned around and locked their arms around me so that I fell right on top of who ever the man was. I was surprised at how well I fit in his arms. I opened my eyes and tugged at the arms. They automatically let go.
“Sorry,” I mumbled as I stood up. Then I fell through the thin ice again as I saw who was in the smaller with me.
A/N~ So? What do you think? Tell me please! I really love to hear what you think! And if you have any pointers, that would be teriffic! Thanks for reading! ;D
