Victoire smiled as she walked across the room and took Teddy’s hand. Teddy gave Victoire’s hand a little squeeze.
“So, what are you wedding plans?” Molly asked excitedly, bustling towards the young couple. Of course she was excited. Her eldest grandchild was getting married.
“Grandma, we’ve only just got engaged. We don’t have any plans yet,” Victoire said swiftly, an eye on the door where she expected Harry to walk through at any moment. With Teddy’s grandmother dead, Harry was the closest family Teddy had left now, and Teddy had asked him and Ginny to come over immediately.
Victoire’s father came forward, and hugged his eldest daughter.
“I am so happy for you, Vicky,” he whispered. Victoire kissed his cheek as her mother joined the hug, some tears rolling down her face.
“Oh, Maman, don’t cry!” Victoire exclaimed. Fleur wiped her eyes, and as Bill moved away, pulled both Victoire and Teddy into a hug.
“Victoire, you’re getting married, I am so happy!” she cried. Victoire shook her head in embarrassment. Why did they all have to act like this? She supposed she was the first in her family to be getting married, but it was ridiculous.
Harry and Ginny walked though the door then, and looked at the small gathering questioningly.
“What’s the good news?” Harry asked. Teddy moved quickly to greet them.
“Uncle Harry, Victoire and I are getting married!” Teddy said. Harry grinned, and pulled Teddy into a hug, and then Ginny hugged Teddy as well. Ginny then hugged Victoire tightly.
“Wow. My godson and my niece,” Harry said, laughing. Victoire smiled, and went forward to hug Harry. She tried not to admit it, but Harry was her favourite uncle, and he wasn’t actually related to her.
“It’s wonderful news. Victoire, you just wait until you see Lily, this has been her dream since she found out you two were together!” Ginny laughed. Victoire smiled. Lily was a sweet girl, one of the nicer of her cousins. Again, she tried not to admit that she had a preference for the cousins belonging to her Uncle Ron and Auntie Hermione, and her Auntie Ginny and Uncle Harry. Though, Uncle George’s children were awesome as well.
“It’s lucky it’s the middle of the school term. Are you going to write to your cousins, or would you like someone else to?” Molly asked. Victoire sighed.
“I will, I guess. I only need to send one letter, they’ll tell everyone,” she said, grinning. Molly laughed. Victoire smiled around at them all. Her family. And Teddy. Her Teddy. Her happily ever after.
*~*
She watched as he scribbled something down on a piece of parchment furiously. She wondered what had happened. She placed a hand on his shoulder, and he turned around to look at her.
“Babe, I have to go away for work for a little while. Okay?” he said. She nodded, confused.
“Why, Teddy? What’s going on?” she asked.
“Auror business. I have to go,” he said. She bit her lip. Had he forgotten.
“Our wedding is next week!” she exclaimed. Teddy sighed, and kissed her hand.
“I know, Victoire. I’m sorry. We can postpone it, people will understand. Why do you think I’m so angry about this? It’s my dearest wish to marry you,” he promised, standing up, and pulling her into a hug. Victoire sighed, and kissed him gently.
“Don’t be too long,” she muttered. Teddy nodded, and then let her go as he went up to his bedroom to start packing. Victoire watched him worry etched in her eyes. She didn’t know how long he’d be. She didn’t know when she’d be able to marry him. Her happily ever after was being put off.
