I'm sorry, I'm not JK Rowling. None of the characters are mine, except Mary.
Mary sat with her back against the wall. Her knees were pulled up to her chin while she rubbed her forehead, trying to solve her situation. Remus Lupin paced the room, dust flying up around his ankles with every step. “I have no solution for this, Mary,” Remus said suddenly. Mary's eyes widened and she shook her head.
“I never expected one. There is no easy solution. Not without someone getting hurt. I'm just going to stay here and wait until I have to meet Harry. Just go about your day, I'll see you at 7, yeah?” Mary responded, looking desperate for time alone. Remus nodded slowly and walked towards her.
“This will all work out, I'm here. No matter what.” He gave her a strong hug, almost melting his confidence into her. As she let her tears fall onto his shabby gray robe, she thought of how Remus Lupin got her through the loss of her child. If anyone was to stick with her through the mess she'd gotten herself into, she was glad it was Remus. Eventually, he let go and walked out of the room.
After watching Remus leave, Mary sat on the window sill. Sitting, looking out the window, Mary lost herself for hours. In time, she shook out of her daze and checked the clock. 6:45. In fifteen minutes all hell would come down on 12 Grimmwauld place, and it was all because of her. Mary stood up and looked at herself in the mirror. Other than her red eyes, tear stains, outrageous mess of hair, and wrinkled clothes, she looked normal. She shrugged, “It's time,” she said to her reflection, “You've waited for this for a long time.” She her waved her wand and her appearance was back to normal. She shrugged and walked towards the door, but as she grabbed the handle she heard someone say her name behind her.
“Mary?” she turned, her confidence lifting a little as she recognized the voice. “The meeting is over. I'm home.”
“Thank Merlin,” Mary said to the silver apparition of a snake. “I'm telling Harry tonight, I'll be home tomorrow,” she said relieved. She finally turned her back and steeled herself. It was time, she walked to the door and flew down the stairs.
Had it been any other situation, Mary would have found the scene in the study hilarious. Harry was twiddling this thumbs occasionally looking up confusedly at Sirius, who was pacing the room, mumbling to himself quietly. And on top of it all, Remus sat in a corner with a large drink in his hand, watching Sirius, surely still trying to solve the problem at hand. The door creaked a little as it opened. Remus was the first to be broken from his daze. He nodded as their eyes met and smiled disdainfully. Not letting her confidence fade, she nodded back and walked in the room. Not looking at Sirius, she walked straight towards Harry, and sat down next to him.
“So uhh what's going on?” Harry asked looking at her. Sirius stopped pacing, and Mary finally looked up at him. She nervously raised her eyebrows as he nodded in return.
“Harry this isn't easy,” Mary started. “As Sirius and Remus were the best of friends with your father, I was with your mother.” she explained.
“Maid of Honor and everything at the wedding, ya know,” Sirius said, winking. Mary shook her head and continued.
“And just as long as your mother and father were together, Sirius and I were,” she said slowly, looking for encouragement from Remus. He looked over the tips of his fingers, tilting his head to the side. “We were engaged to be married, you see” she said slowly. “When you were born, Lily and James asked us to be..they asked us to be..you know..” she couldn't do it, everything seemed to fall apart. Sirius quickly picked up where she left off.
“Obviously you know they asked me to be your godfather, Harry, but they asked Mary to be your godmother.”
“What?” Harry said standing up quickly, rage taking over his confusion. “Why have I been at the Dursleys'? Why haven't I grown up at your place? You weren't in Azkaban like Sirius!” Harry roared pointing at Mary.
“We didn't know your parents would die within the year, Harry.” Mary whispered in return, tears returning to her eyes. “Sirius and I thought it would be best if we waited until we were married for me to be..to be your godmother,” she finally looked up to from her feet. “We thought it was in your best interest,” she finished pleadingly.
“No! No it wasn't in my best interest! What kind of plan did you two think this was?!” Harry continually shouted. All Mary could do was sit there. She'd waited for this moment, and of course didn't expect Harry to scream like this, but what did she know about being a 15 year old boy targeted by an evil dark wizard? Sitting there with Harry yelling over her, was similar to being scolded by her father when she was 10. She just sat, listening to the yelling, eventually Sirius and Remus stepping in, trying to calm Harry down. Eventually the door opened and slammed shut, pictures falling off the walls. Mary looked up, the silence ringing in her ears. Harry had finally left. Nothing went the way she had planned and now she had to talk to Sirius. Little did he know she knew what was coming.
“Sorry about that, love.” Sirius started looking nervous. “We should have known it wouldn't be all sunshine and daisies,” he smiled. “He'll turn around. Eventually He'll understand.” Mary smiled.
“Yeah, I know. Hopefully soon.” Sirius sat down next to Mary on the couch.
“Mary, look,” Sirius paused, “What we had..was great. I..I think we should try again.”
“Well whatever do you mean, Sirius? I'm trying to solve this problem with Harry.” Mary responded nervously, playing with her ring finger. Sirius sighed to try and rid himself of his nerves.
“I..uhh..Mary will you marry me?”Sirius stuttered out, as if they were both 18 again.
“Ohh Sirius..” Mary faked. “I'm flattered but I uhh..you see..well when you went to Azkaban, a lot happened,” she started. “My mother, she passed away, she told me all about an..an agreement she had made. Well..about..hmm when was it..say, 6, maybe 7 years ago. The funny thing is, I..I'm already marri-”
She was violently cut off by Sirius who stood up quickly and looked at her. His face red, eyes huge with rage. “YOU WERE SUPPOSED TO WAIT! YOU SELFISH BITCH! WE WERE ENGAGED!” he bellowed at her as she cowered in the corner of the couch. “WHAT DO YOU MEAN YOU'RE MARRIED?! WHO DID YOU MARRY?! WE WERE TOGETHER FOR YEARS!! IN LOVE! WHAT HAPPENED LA--” Sirius voice was cut off, but his mouth was still moving. His face grew even deeper red as he realized he wasn't being heard.
“Remus? Remus what happened? Did you use a silencing spell?” Mary said confused.
“No, I did.” Mary whipped her body around to face the door. “I'd had enough of this idiot screaming like a lunatic. And I assumed you had had enough after that foolish Potter's fiasco.” Mary ran to Severus and hugged him, immersing herself in his familiar black cloak. Sirius, though silenced was in utter shock. He pushed Mary from Severus and stood between them. “I've already had enough of you, Black, and no one talks to my wife that way.” Sirius looked between Snape and Mary in a daze. “I'm sorry you had to listen to this filth. Forgive me for not intervening earlier. I knew you had to say what you said. This mess is over. Let's go home.” Mary started to walk towards the door, Severus behind her.
“How dare you do this to me, you whore!” Sirius yelled, finally gained his voice back. “And you, you disgusting murdering piece of waste! I can't believe this woman chose to be with you.”
“Yes, but this woman, Mary, is with me. And not with you.” Snape smirked as he turned around to face Sirius. All too soon, Sirius swung a balled fist at Severus, who took it in the stomach. Severus throwing one back. A huge fight broke between them, leaving Mary in hysterics. Lupin jumped in to break everything up, finally able to hold a struggling Sirius. “It's no wonder I'm with her. There's nothing to say that could make you look more foolish than how you react. Like a 10 year old Muggle. Fool.”
Sirius could do nothing with Remus restraining him. He looked at Severus and Mary, giving them a disgusted look. He spit and turned his back. Severus put a large hand on the small of Mary's back and ushered her out of the room.
::A/N:: Hi, I'd really like to thank my readers, especially the reviewers. you're wonderful. I'm kinda stuck in a dry spot right now. This chapter isn't all I wanted it to be, but I wanted to post it for everyone to read. I'd love a couple suggestions for the next chapter or so. I'm thinking Harry heads back to school and so on. Thanks in advance. And thanks so much for reading :)
