Chapter 4 : Chapter four: Too much of the good stuff
| ||Rating: Mature||Chapter Reviews: 7|
Background: Font color:
The clothes they're wearing in this chapter are clothes that are fashionable today. I don't think much about when it takes place. The story is more important.
And also, I found the information about Arithmancy on a really good website. However, I'm not sure if links are allowed, so you're gonna have to google it.
I sat in arithmancy, calculating my Character number. Arithmancy just happened to be one of my favourite subjects. It was very interesting and at the same time very logical. Not the rubbish you learned in divination. I wrote down my results on my parchment.
Character number: 3
Heart number: 5
Social number: 7
We were also supposed to find out the meaning of the numbers. I looked in my book and it said that the character number ‘indicates the general personality type of the individual’. I then looked up the number three. It said:
3 - Three represents the idea of completeness or wholeness, as in the threesomes past-present-future and mind-body-spirit. Three indicates talent, energy, an artistic nature, humor, and social ease. Threes are often lucky, easygoing, and highly successful, but they can also be unfocused, easily offended, and superficial.
It actually made sense. I’m an energetic person, with an artistic nature. Not all people know this, but I love to dance. I started dancing jazz dance when I was seven years old. Sadly, there aren’t many opportunities to dance here at Hogwarts, but I try to dance sometimes anyway.
I’m quite talented and perhaps not highly successful, but I often reach my goals. I don’t think I’m that superficial, but I’m a bit easy offended, even though I try not to show that.
The next number was my heart number. According to the book the heart number ‘represents the individual’s inner life and can indicate desires and fears hidden from others’. Under my number it said:
5 - Five is the number of instability and imbalance, indicating change and uncertainty. Fives are drawn to many things at once but commit to none. They are adventurous, energetic and willing to take risks. They enjoy travelling and meeting new people but may not stay in one place very long. Fives can be conceited, irresponsible, quick-tempered and impatient.
Well, I am a bit uncertain about myself sometimes. But which teenage girl isn’t? I think this person sound more like Sirius than me. He’s adventurous and doesn’t commit to much.
But I too can be adventurous, and also impatient. And I really like travelling and meeting new people. I scribbled down some notes, and then looked for the last one: My social number. The social number ‘represents the outer personality, the face an individual shows to the outside world’.
According to the book, this was my outer personality:
7 - Perceptive, understanding, and bright, sevens enjoy hard work and challenges. They are often serious, scholarly, and interested in all things mysterious. Originality and imagination are more important than money and material possessions. Sevens can also be pessimistic, sarcastic, and insecure.
I couldn’t agree more. I love mysterious things, and the excitement about them. I’m a bit pessimistic, and sarcasm is like my trademark. This was what I loved about arithmancy; the mystical aura it had, and the fact that it actually worked.
I looked up and saw that all the others were still working, while I was finished. So I started calculating my friends’ numbers, to compare them to mine.
Alisha and Zach had the same Character number as me, but that was the only one that matched with someone else’s. James and Sirius had the same Character number. No surprise there; the guys were so alike it was almost scary.
The ball suddenly rang and Professor Ingham dismissed class. I grabbed Lily’s and Remus’ arms and dragged them out of the class, singing loudly. They looked at me as if I was crazy and started laughing.
”What’s gotten you in such a good mood?” Remus asked.
“Well, Remus, I only have one lesson left now” I said and grinned. “And it just happens to be Friday today. And we’re having a party tonight. And the sun is shining. And my hair looks good today. And…”
“Enough Soph!” Lily said loudly with a smile on her face. “God you’re crazy sometimes.”
I stuck my tongue out at her and turned to Remus. “When does the party start?”
He raised an eyebrow. “You have been babbling about it all day and you don’t even now when it begins?”
I shook my head and he rolled his eyes.
“It starts at eight.”
“Oh, goodie” I said and smiled.
History of magic went surprisingly fast. I sat next to Zach again and we passed notes, getting to know each other. I found out that he’s half-blood, has an older brother and a dog called Alfie, plays not only quidditch but also football (I grew up with muggle friends so I know about it) and loves pasta. I left the classroom smiling and headed to the library.
Since I had a couple of hours before dinner, I decided to do some homework. The teachers were already loading us with it, and it was better to get it done so I didn’t have to do it on the weekend. Lily and Remus were already in the library, so I sat down at their table. I finished my potions and charms essays, and got some other work done too.
“Hullo” someone suddenly whispered in my ear.
I jumped and shrieked and heard the person who had whispered laugh. When I turned around I saw a smirking Sirius. I glared at him, and also at James who stood next to him, smirking too.
“What are you doing here?” I asked.
Sirius and James rarely went to the library. They didn’t study often because they found it boring. But who doesn’t? It was a bit unfair, because they seldom studied but yet they got good grades. It was lucky for them though, because weren’t it for their natural intelligence they would never make it through school.
“We’re here to kidnap you” James said and grinned mischievously.
I looked at him suspiciously. “What are you up to?”
“Nothing. Dinner has started, and we thought you ladies wanted to eat and then get ready for the party” he answered, and I let my guard down. Obviously they weren’t up so something. At least not at the moment.
“Oh.” I said. “Well, let’s go then.” I gathered my books and stood up.
I turned around “Lily, aren’t you coming?”
She glared at James and then said “No, I’m going to finish this essay first. I’ll be there soon.”
“Sophia! Can I borrow your straightener?” Alisha called from the bathroom.
“Sure, but why not do it with magic?” I called back.
“It’s much more fun to do it the muggle way!”
I smiled as I continued to put make up on. Alisha was right, the ‘muggle way’ was funnier. It felt more real. I had bought a pretty, strapless purple dress this summer and was planning on wearing it tonight. It was tight over the bust and down to the waist, where it hung loosely.
I put on some eyeliner and black eye shadow. My hair fell in big curls, thanks to the curling iron. I put my new black pumps, jewellery and some perfume on, and then I was ready.
It had taken me an hour and a half to get ready, so I really hoped that I would have fun tonight. All of the curling and fixing would feel worthless if I didn’t have a good time. But the Gryffindor parties were known to be fun.
The Marauders usually made sure they were something to remember. They decorated the whole common room and snuck to Hogsmeade to get booze. The teachers were either ignorant or stupid, because we were never interrupted.
I talked a little to Hannah and Chloe while waiting for Lily and Alisha to get ready. Chloe was apparently seeing a guy from Hufflepuff, and Hannah was interested in a guy from Ravenclaw. I told them about Zach and we talked about the guys for a while.
I liked my other dorm mates very much and was happy that we didn’t have to share a dorm with some stupid bimbos, like some of the girls from Sirius’ and James’ fan clubs. I don’t think I would be able to stand them. It was bad enough to meet them in the corridors.
You see, they always asked me loads of questions about James, Sirius and Remus. While Remus wasn’t as popular as the other two, he had many girls chasing him. Some girls even asked questions about Peter.
The worst thing was that the questions are so stupid. Like, ‘does Sirius have a tattoo of a dragon on his back?’ or ‘is it true that James has had sex with over 50 girls?’ I used to answer them sarcastically, but they were so stupid that they believed me, which led to rumours being spread about the guys.
I think you can imagine how happy Sirius was when the whole school thought he had several STDs. He was so furious that he stood up on his chair in the Great hall, showing a package of condoms and telling the whole school that he either used those or a contraceptive charm. Do I need to tell you that he was embarrassed afterwards?
Now, don’t get me wrong. Sirius wasn’t a playboy who had sex with lots of girls, but many people thought so, since there were so many rumours about him.
I knew for a fact that he had only slept with two girls, and both of the times he had been in a relationship. However, I suspected that the list of girls he had snogged was a much longer.
After a long while of waiting, Alisha came out of the bathroom. She had straightened her usually curly hair and was wearing a black dress with sequins on it. She had a pink diadem and pink earrings. Alisha refused to wear pumps, so she had black flats on instead.
“Wow Alisha, you look great.” I said. “The boys won’t know how to behave themselves.”
“Comes from the right person” She said and grinned.
“Are you guys ready?” Lily said.
She was wearing a high-waist, black skirt and a tight white t-shirt. Her red hair fell in curls and she had black pumps, just like me.
“Lily, you look awesome! You better watch out for Potter tonight” Alisha said and smirked.
“I think Potter is the one who should watch out” she said and left the dormitory. Alisha and I laughed and followed suit.
The common room was already crowded. It was a Gryffindor party, but there were many people from other houses there as well. However, there wasn’t a single person from Slytherin. Surprising? Not really.
There were only fifth years and older there, because the others weren’t allowed. James had probably chased them up to their dormitories. I spotted the Marauders and went over to them.
“Hi Sophia. You look great!” Sirius said and whistled.
I smiled. “Well you don’t look too bad either.”
Sirius was wearing beige chinos and a black t-shirt. His hair looked as messy as usual.
“Want some punch?” James asked grinning mischievously.
“Sure” I said, knowing that they had spiked it.
They always did, to ‘make the people have more fun’ as they said. My dress had slipped down a little, so I adjusted it. I felt someone’s eyes on me and looked up to see who it was, only to be met by Peter’s eyes.
I downed my drink, trying to remain calm, but it was hard. The guy had just watched me adjust my dress! I’m sure he had stared at my boobs. I guess the guys hadn’t talked to him yet.
I needed to get away from Peter, so I looked around the room for someone to talk to. Lily and Alisha had already disappeared, and I couldn’t see anyone else I knew. But then I spotted Zach next to one of the windows, talking to some of his friends. I grabbed another drink and made my way over to him. He smiled when he caught sight of me.
“Hi Sophia” he said, still smiling.
“Hey Zach” I said and smiled back.
One of his friends cleared his throat.
“Oh! Sophia, these are some of my friends from Ravenclaw” he said and his friends smiled at me. “Guys, this is Sophia. You know, the seeker on the Gryffindor team.”
They nodded and one of the guys stepped forward and took my hand.
“I’m Adam” he said, while we shook hands.
Another guy stepped forward. “I’m Tim. Zach has told us so much about you, sweetie” he said and winked.
I felt my cheeks getting hot. Hopefully, the room was dark enough to hide my blushing cheeks.
The third guy laughed. “Ignore Tim; he gets weird and embarrassing when he drinks. I’m Joshua, by the way.”
“Nice to meet you” I said and smiled at them. They seemed nice.
“Hey Zach” Adam said and turned to him. “We’re going to get some drinks. We’ll catch up with you later.”
They started walking away. Tim turned around. “Take it easy tonight, kids” he said and winked. Zach and I laughed.
“Is he special or what?” I said and smiled.
“He’s a bit drunk now, but he acts like that when he’s sober too” Zach said and returned my smile.
“Well, I thought he was nice” I said.
“Yeah, he is. You look great tonight, by the way” Zach said, just like Sirius had said earlier.
I couldn’t help but laugh a little. He looked at me strangely.
“What’s so funny?”
I smiled at him. “It’s just that Sirius said the exact same thing before.”
“Oh” he said and frowned a little. “Are you and Sirius dating?”
“No!” I said quickly. “God no, we’re just friends. He’s like my brother.”
Zach smiled. “Good.”
“You look great too by the way” I said.
He grinned. “Thanks.”
We continued our talk for a while, and he got me another drink. It was nice talking to him. The conversation went on easy. I started feeling a bit tipsy, but I didn’t care. I wanted to have fun tonight.
Suddenly James and Sirius were standing on either side of Zach, with their arms around him.
“Hullo Zach!” They looked a bit tipsy too, but they were far from drunk.
“You’ve met our little sis, I see” James said and grinned. I rolled my eyes at him.
“So I have” Zach said, looking amused.
“Well just so you know; if you’re gonna date her you need our approval.” Sirius said and grinned.
“No he doesn’t.” I said and glared at him. “I’m perfectly capable of handling the whole dating thing alone, thank you very much” I said, trying to make him get the hint and go away. They were embarrassing me.
“We know that but we just want to take care of you!” James said still grinning.
“I can take care of-“ I started but was interrupted.
“-yourself, we know” James said. “Anyways, Zach, you’re a cool guy so you already have our approval.”
“Lucky me” Zach said and winked at me. “Now, if you two don’t mind and if Sophia wants to, maybe we could dance?”
I smiled and grabbed his hand, dragging him out on the dance floor. He chuckled.
“I take that as a yes.”
Zach was a great dancer; I had lots of fun dancing with him. At first we danced facing each other, and he spun me around and dipped me, even though we didn’t dance the waltz or something like that.
We took a small break and he handed me a drink. I had no idea how many I had drunk, but I was starting to feel more and more intoxicated. We just stood talking for a while, resting a bit from all of the dancing.
But after finishing the drinks we went to the dance floor again. This time he stood behind med, his hands on my hips. I felt his cologne and breathed it in. I could feel people staring at us, but I didn’t care.
“Did I tell you that you look really great tonight?” Zach said in my ear.
“You did say I look great” I said and smiled.
“Well, I meant it.”
I smiled again; he was so sweet. And it actually seemed like he was interested in me. The Ravenclaw quidditch captain, tall and handsome, with his dark brown hair and brown eyes. I could consider myself lucky.
I let him hold me close and just danced to the music. Our bodies moved together and it just felt so right.
The song ended too soon for my liking and we went over to get more drinks. I saw James, Remus, Sirius and Alisha on a couch. Alisha caught sight of me.
“OI! Soph! Get your fat ass over here!” She yelled drunkenly.
I laughed, and turned to Zach.
“Well, I’d better go” I said.
“It’s okay. I’ll see you later” He said and kissed me on the cheek.
I walked over to my friends, smiling and sat down next to Remus.
“Well, you two looked… intimate” Sirius said, looking at me disapprovingly.
I raised an eyebrow. “And you care because?”
“Because you’re my sister!” He said sulkily, crossing his arms.
“Uh, didn’t you give him your approval like an hour ago?” I said, a bit confused.
“Well, yeah…” He said, looking like he didn’t know what to say.
Alisha started asking me hundreds of questions before he could continue though. I told her all about my evening so far while resting my head on Remus’ shoulder. I was getting really drunk now.
“He’s really cute, Al!” I exclaimed. “AND he’s captain of the quidditch team!”
“You’re so lucky, Soph” She slurred back. “I wish I had a hot quidditch captain too. In fact, everybody should have one!”
I downed another drink and decided it was time for me and Alisha to dance. I grabbed her hand and together we staggered to the dance floor.
Dancing with Alisha was a bit different from dancing with Zach. We swayed our hips and did some ‘sexy dancing’. I looked around and saw many other intoxicated people doing the same. Suddenly Lily came from nowhere and joined our dancing. Me and my two best friends laughed and sang loudly. I was having a great time.
Everybody on the dance floor suddenly formed a circle, and I was pushed into the middle of it. I knew the rules: the person in the middle dances a little and then chooses the next one. I laughed and started dancing like Alisha, Lily and I had danced earlier. The people around me cheered, and I danced my way out and pushed Lily into the middle.
I walked from the dance floor to the couches and saw Remus still sitting there. I plopped myself down next to him and leaned against his body.
“Hullo Remus” I said. “Enjoying ze partay?”
“Yes I do, thank you. And what about miss Crawford?” he said looking amused.
“Miss Crawford is having a very good time.” I said grinning, while searching for a drink. I looked at him, and saw that he was a bit pale. He didn’t look too well.
“You look a bit troubled, bro” I said to him.
“Nah, it’s nothing really…” He said, shifting a little.
“Oh yes it is! You can tell me everything. I can be your psychrist… phsycharitist… psychiatrist. Yeah that’s the one. Psychiatrist!”
Remus chuckled. “It’s okay, Soph. It’s nothing really.”
I looked at him suspiciously.
“Oh it is something. And I am going to find out what! But not now. Now I need more firewhiskey!” I said and staggered away to find another drink.
Before I could find me a drink I bumped into James.
“There you are Soph! I’ve been looking all over for you!” He said, looking at me suspiciously. “Where have you been?”
“Oh over there and here, you know.” I slurred.
“You haven’t been with Zach, have you?”
“Nah. But have you seen him? He’s HOT!” I said and looked around for him.
James rolled his eyes. “You’re drunk Sophia.”
“No I’m not James.” I said, even though I knew I was a bit drunk. Okay, pretty much wasted, but he didn’t have to know that, did he?
Suddenly I thought of what dull name James is. I mean, it sounds so old and grown up. Why not get him a nickname?
“Hey, you know what JP! We should totally get you a nickname! Like…”
“Oh no, not again” he groaned “Last time you came up with Jamie-boy.”
“Like…hrm… Potty? Yeah! Potty! I like that” I said loudly and grinned like a madman.
“Potty?!” James yelled, staring wide-eyed at me. “Isn’t that were babies shit?!”
“Well yeah” I said thoughtfully. “But your eyes kinda have the same colour as poop” I said and reached out to poke him in the eye. Luckily, his glasses were in the way.
“Oh. My. God.” James said bewildered. “How many drinks have you had tonight?”
That was a good question. How many had I had? I had absolutely no idea.
“I don’t know” I said honestly and yawned. “But I’m starting to feel really tired now.” I went on and leaned against him.
“Well, that’s it” he said. “I’m going to have to take you to bed.”
He picked me up and at first everything was bouncy, but then I landed on something soft. I felt James removing my dress and my shoes before putting the cover over me. I wrapped it around me and then drifted off to sleep.
aaand that was it. bloody Sophia can't control her drinking. Anyone a fan of Pirates of the caribbean? I LOVE the part where Jack has been hit with an oar and he discovers that he's surrounded by his enemies. "Parlalem.. parsni.." and so on. That's were I got the inspiration to Sophia's attempt to say pshychiatrist. If anyone wanted to know.
I'm not going to ramble anymore. Leave a review!
