AN: So this is chapter two. It's definitely not one of my best, but it's better than the first one.
I just have some things I forgot to include in the previous chapter's AN:
- Sophia is not me. I have used my name and some of my qualities. But that's it.
- This isn't set in the seventies. I don't care much about if the dates are correct, or if the full moon is on the right day etc. I haven't thought of when this story should take place, so I guess it'll show later.
- One thing Sophia and I do have in common is that we don't like Peter, which you might have noticed. I think you'll notice it even more in the future.
That's all I can remember for now. I've probably forgotten something again, but then I'll write it in the next chapter.
DISCLAIMER: I am not J K Rowling.
I woke up early the next morning. All the other girls were still asleep. We are six girls in this dormitory: Me, Alisha and Lily of course, and also Hannah Griffith, Chloe Denton and Kiera Hayman. The other girls are nice, but they’re a bit boring. I’m friends with them, but I don’t hang out with them much.
I tip toed my way to the bathroom and went to the shower. I’m not really a morning person. Still, I get up early. I like the peace and quietness, and it’s nice to have a lot of time to get ready. I washed my hair quickly and stepped out of the shower to put some make up on. After that, I dried my hair and walked out of the bathroom.
Chloe and Hannah had woken up, so I talked a little to them before putting my school uniform on. Lily and Alisha are definitely not morning persons. You could think that Lily would be an early riser, since she is so orderly, but no. Waking her up before 7.30 is not a safe thing to do. So instead, I walked down to the common room, only to bump into Remus.
“Oh sorry Remus! Didn’t see you there.”
“It’s OK Soph; I wasn’t really watching where I was going either” he said and shrugged.
“Well, fancy seeing you up so early! Couldn’t you sleep or what?” I said grinning.
“Peter was snoring.” He said and scowled.
“Oh. Well, I’m kind of glad he did, because now I have company!”
Remus looked at me strangely before saying “Wait, are you always up this early? It’s only 7.”
“Normally I’m ready by 7.30, but I woke up earlier than usual and couldn’t go back to sleep. So I figured I could might as well get ready and read a little or something” I said and shrugged.
“Well, why don’t we do some catching up before going to breakfast? It starts in 30 minutes and I didn’t have the chance to speak to you yesterday.”
We sat down on one of the comfy couches and talked about our summers. The thirty minutes went fast and at 7.30 we headed down to the Great hall to have some breakfast. There weren’t many people in there. Most were probably tired after the long trip.
After about 40 minutes all of our friends had joined us. Professor McGonagall had just started handing out the timetables, and surprisingly Lily hadn’t gotten into a fight with James yet. Maybe she was too tired to even notice that he was sitting at the same table.
“Ms Crawford, here’s your timetable.” McGonagall said from behind me.
I turned around and took the timetable. Since September 1st was a Monday, our first day of lessons would be Tuesday. When I saw the schedule of the day, I gasped.
“Oh my god! First I have double potions, and then I have history of magic! Could this day get any worse?” I groaned and put my head in my hands.
“Well actually, Soph, there are many ways of this day getting worse.” Sirius piped up. “For example, if we have potions with the Slytherins or maybe if Peeves get you on you way to your lesson… or maybe if...”
“Shut up Sirius. I get your point” I said and glared at him. “Who else has got History of Magic?”
“Well, you know I have it.” Alisha said.
“And… er… I have it too” Someone said from across of me.
I looked up and saw that it was Peter. He was red like a tomato. I put my head in my hands. This day had just gotten worse.
We finished our breakfast and started walking towards the dungeons. Surprisingly many students had decided to go on with potions, so not all sixth year students had it at the same time.
We were lucky though, because it turned out we shared the class with the Ravenclaws. I was talking to James when a tall, handsome guy with dark brown hair and brown eyes walked up to us and said hi to James and Sirius.
“Hey Zach.” James replied, and when he saw that Zach was looking at me curiously he introduced us. "Zach, this is our friend Sophia Crawford."
Zach smiled at me and reached out his hand. “I thought I recognised you. You’re the seeker on Gryffindor’s team, right?” he said as we shook hands.
I smiled back. “Yeah, that would be me.”
“I’m the captain of Ravenclaw’s team. I play keeper.”
“Oh right! I remember you. Nice to meet you” I said, and started walking into the classroom.
The teacher, professor Slughorn, reminds me of a walrus. He is rather short, overweight, has little hair and a large moustache. He absolutely adores Lily. She is really good at potions. I’m not that bad either, but I’m far from as good as Lily.
“There’s no need to sit down!” Slughorn’s voice boomed through the room. “This year I have made sitting arrangements.” He said and looked very proud of himself.
I looked around the room. Most of the people looked OK. I mean, Peter didn’t even take this class. He had divination instead.
It’s all bullshit, divination, if you ask me. The professor, Ethelda Higginbottom (what kind of name is that anyway?) is completely bonkers. But I guess Peter knew how to ‘broaden his mind’ and ‘use his inner eye’.
Slughorn had started calling out the partners. I got paired up with James, which suited me just fine. Lily got paired up with a guy from Ravenclaw called Brandon (which made James look totally jealous), Alisha got Remus as a partner and Sirius ended up with a girl from Ravenclaw, Laney. She is kind of geeky and suffers from acne. I feel sorry for her, but that didn’t stop me from chuckling when I saw the horror on Sirius’ face.
“What are you laughing at?” James asked me.
“Well, let’s just say that not all of us are happy with the partners we got” I said, and pointed at Sirius.
When James saw his face, he couldn’t help but laugh too.
“Shit I’m so happy I got paired up with you Soph.” He said looking both amused and relieved. “He’s going to try to make me switch partners all day. Maybe even all week.”
The rest of the lesson went by quickly. Slughorn only talked about the importance of being ambitious in potions and other uninteresting but obvious things.
When he dismissed class, I snuck up behind Sirius.
I leaned in close. “Don’t you just love assigned seats, Siri?” I said, trying to make my voice sound like Laney’s.
Sirius jumped and turned around, wide-eyed. I had always been good at imitations. When he saw that it was me mock glared at me.
“You did not just do that…”
I smirked at him. “Oh, I think I just did, actually.”
He smirked too and suddenly threw me over his shoulder. I kicked him and laughed, but he didn’t put me down.
“What are you doing?” Remus’ voice was heard.
“Well, you know. Just hanging” I answered, and Sirius let out his bark-like laugh.
“Hey doggie boy, when are you going to put me down?” Sirius stiffened and put me down immediately.
“Er… What makes you call me doggie boy?” He said, looking a bit panicked.
“It’s just… Your laughter kinda sounds like a dog barking. Why so nervous about it?” I said, confused. Why would he care about that?
“OH! Er, well… Nothing. I just thought… er… my breath smelt like a dog’s?”
I laughed and saw Remus roll his eyes. Guys were so weird sometimes. I looked down at my watch and saw that I needed to hurry to History of Magic. I started walking down the corridor in a quick pace.
“Hey Soph, where are you going? I’m not done with you!” Sirius shouted.
I turned around and shouted back. “To class! Haven’t you got one?”
“Nah, free period.” He said cockily and smirked.
“Lucky bastard” I muttered as I half walked, half ran to class.
I made it just in time. The bell actually rang at the same time as I stepped into the room. I looked for Alisha, but saw that Kiera was already sitting next to her. I panicked and looked for another seat.
There was only one seat left, and I hurried to it. When I got closer, I saw that none other than Peter was occupying the seat next to the one I was on my way to. I had no choice but to sit down next to him.
“Hi Peter” I said and forced a smile.
He turned red as a tomato (no surprise there) and stuttered a hello to me. I really needed to talk to the other guys about this.
Now why I decided to go on with History of Magic I don’t know. The subject had potential of being interesting, but stupid Binns made everything sound as interesting as an instruction book to a vacuum cleaner.
I really couldn’t understand why anyone would want to take this class, because no one listened to Binns never-ending droning. That ought to make it easier for me to get a good grade if I listened and Binns saw it, right? So I decided to try to pay attention.
After a couple of minutes I realised that it wouldn’t work. Firstly, how can anyone listen to a ghost, droning on and on in a monotone voice without getting the tiniest bit sleepy? And secondly, stupid Peter was staring at me. All the time! If I looked at him he would blush and turn away, but as soon as I turned away from him, he would start staring at me again! I swear I saw him drooling.
It was so disturbing! What if he thinks of me when he… ugh. I couldn’t even think about it. It made me wanna puke.
When class was dismissed I gathered my books as quickly as possible and ran out of the classroom, without waiting for Alisha. I hurried down the corridor when I heard her shout my name.
I prayed to God that Peter wouldn’t be with her and felt the urge to kiss someone when I turned around and saw that he wasn’t.
“Why didn’t you wait up for me?” She asked, a bit annoyed.
We started making our way to the Great hall. It was time for lunch.
“Sorry, I just needed to get away from Peter as soon as possible.”
“Oh, I can understand that. He was totally staring at you.” She smirked.
“No? Really? I didn’t notice.” I said sarcastically.
She just laughed and began babbling about basketball.
Lunch went too quickly, but that was good also since Peter was there. It sounds like I hate him, but he is very creepy. Especially when he stares. And drools.
The two last lessons of the day, defence against the dark arts and charms passed by quickly too. After dinner, I sat in the common room together with James and Sirius. I had no idea where the others were, and I didn’t care too much either.
“Guys, you need to help me” I whined.
“What is it now, love?” Sirius asked.
“Peter.” I huffed.
“What’s up with him?” James asked.
Seriously? Hadn’t they noticed? Merlin, they were stupid sometimes.
“He freakin stares at me all the time, that’s what’s up with him!” I yelled.
Both boys looked surprised. Stupid guys.
“What, when did he do that?”
“Hm let’s see.” I said, putting a finger on my chin trying to look as if I was thinking hard. “Yesterday, on the train. Then, in the carriage. And then, at the feast. Today, at breakfast and in history of magic! I swear I saw him drooling!”
“What?!” Sirius yelled.
Yeah, stupid, have you understood now?
“Yes! It’s true! And it totally creeps me out. He doesn’t fancy me, does he?”
“I don’t know.” James said. “But we’re going to find out, and if he does then he’s going to be in a lot of trouble. No one ogles at my sister.”
I smiled, relieved. Sure, I didn’t like the fact that James and Sirius were so over protective. At least I didn’t like it when it came to normal, good looking guys. But this time, I loved them for it.
I relaxed and let Sirius drape his arm around my shoulders. These two boys were misunderstood by so many people. The majority of Hogwarts’ students either thought they were ‘super hot sex gods’ or that they were arrogant, bullying idiots.
Sure, they were good looking and they knew that very well, but under that facade they were so caring and thoughtful. Many people didn’t get to see that side, which was sad really. I guess they had trouble opening up to people, especially Sirius. Earning his trust was something that took time.
You see, Sirius comes from a pureblood family. Mine and James’ families are purebloods too, but they don’t act different because of that. Sirius’ family thinks they are superior, because of their pure blood. They hate muggle borns, and also pureblood families who socialize with half bloods or muggle borns.
Sirius disagrees strongly, which have made him the black sheep in his family. When he wasn’t sorted into Slytherin, his family went crazy. This summer, he was disowned and ran away. Luckily he could stay with James.
Many people know about Sirius’ family, but they don’t the whole truth. They think he’s as carefree as he seems. Maybe he wants people to think that. I don’t know.
What I do know is that he still cares about them, even if he doesn’t want to. Sirius has a younger brother called Regulus. He’s in his fifth year, and of course he’s in Slytherin.
From what I’ve understood Sirius and Regulus were close when they were younger. But Sirius chose his own path and Regulus decided to do as he was told. I can tell that Sirius is very sad about this. He wanted his brother to break free too, but I guess Regulus wasn’t strong enough.
The two of them doesn’t speak to each other. Sometimes they fight, but mostly they just ignore each other.
A waving hand snapped me out of my thoughts.
“Hello Soph, anyone there?” Sirius said and smiled.
“Huh? Oh sorry. Kinda got lost in my thoughts there.” I grinned sheepishly.
“Well, I think it’s time to go to bed. Long day tomorrow you know.”
“Not for me” I said, smiling widely. “I have the two first periods free. I think I’m going to have a late morning.”
“What? That’s so unfair” Sirius whined.
“But Padfoot, we have two free periods too! One before lunch and the other one after.” James said.
“We have? Yay! What do you say about some prank planning then?” He said, looking mischievous.
“Sounds awesome!” James replied, with the same look on his face.
“Well I’m going to bed now anyways” I said and hugged both boys. “See you in the morning. Or rather, at lunch.”
“Night Soph!” They chorused.
I couldn’t help but smile as I climbed the stairs up to the dormitory. They were too sweet sometimes, although I couldn’t tell them that. Their egos would explode if they got any bigger.
“Where have you been?” Alisha asked as soon as I entered the dormitory.
“I was downstairs with James and Sirius. Why were you up here?”
“Potter pissed Lily off again so she didn’t want to sit with him” Alisha said and shrugged, like it was nothing.
It wasn't usual though. James really didn’t know how to make Lily understand that he liked her. He always tried to impress her, but only ended up looking like an idiot.
This summer, he had wanted to give her a special birthday gift. So he sent a Leprechaun who sang ‘I will always love you’ with a horrible singing voice. Then it gave her a card, which exploded into confetti the moment she touched it.
I was at her house that day, so I saw the whole thing. There were also some relatives of hers there. Muggle relatives. The whole exploding thing had been hard to explain. Lily was furious.
“What did he do now?” I said and sighed.
“He forced some first years to sing a song about why I should date him!” Lily exclaimed. “That stupid prat!”
I burst out laughing. The mental image was just too funny. I could see the tiny first years singing to a shocked Lily, and James standing in the background grinning. He was so ridiculous sometimes.
“I would’ve loved hearing that song” I said.
“I’ve learned it!” Alisha said smirking. “It goes like this…
Hazel eyes, messy hair
Features that make the girls stare
Muscled torso, elegantly tall
Yes, that man knows how to enthral
He’s witty, he’s smart
He doesn’t have a weak part
So why don’t you date him Lily?
The two of you would be hot like chilli
We know that you are clever
So say yes and it’ll be you forever”
It was more like a cheer rhyme than a song, and Alisha did movements to it. I rolled on my bed, laughing. The rhymes were so bad that you had to like them. I could imagine James write something like this. He sure was crazy sometimes.
“Soph! It’s not funny!” Lily cried.
“It’s too funny!” I said.
Why hadn’t he told me about this when we talked? Perhaps he thought I already knew about it.
Nevertheless, it was the funniest thing I’ve heard in a while. I had a feeling Sirius had helped him with this. It wouldn’t surprise me at all. I thought it was a stupid, but cute thing to do.
“But don’t you understand that James actually likes you?” I asked Lily. “I mean, who would send Leprechauns and write songs to someone they didn’t like?”
Lily sighed. “It’s James we’re talking about. He probably sees this as a big joke, just like everything else.”
“The thing is Lily, I don’t think he does. And I know him very well.”
She looked away and sighed again. “Whatever. I’m going to bed now. Goodnight.”
“Goodnight Lils” me and Alisha said.
I lay in bed, thinking about James and Lily. I really believed that the two of them would be the perfect match, or ‘hot like chilli’ like James had described it. It was too bad that they didn’t realise that. Or maybe that James could make Lily realise that his feelings for her were true.
I wished I could to something. I could try to talk to both of them, but it would be better if they realised it themselves. My eyelids felt heavy so I closed my eyes and cleared my head from all the thoughts. Soon I felt myself drifting off to sleep.
And that was it. I hope you liked it. But please, do me a favor and leave a review. It would make me so happy :)
EDIT: I've corrected some of the grammar mistakes I've noticed. I know there's still some left though. Sorry about that!
