The next day, Annie woke up in a haze when she realised it was a Saturday, no school, a full weekend to herself, the dawn of the new day.
Rather unwillingly she looked across to Laura’s bed where it remained empty had she gone too bed last night? Thinking that she shouldn’t care what Laura did anymore, got up and went for a lengthy shower.
Afterwards dressing in a blue woollen dress, and pumps Annie made her way towards the Great Hall.
The hall was fuller than usual, with it being the weekend people found it easier to get up in the morning that usual school days, so scanning the Ravenclaw table, she saw Roger who when her gaze landed on him, looked up and waved for her to come over.
Surely it was okay for her too talk too him after-all she had no grudges against him – at least not for the moment.
“Morning Annie, how are you?” Roger said cheerfully, whilst practically pushing Grant Page out of the way to make room for Annie. Annie laughed and squeezed in-between the two quidditch players.
“Look what you’ve made me do Roger, I’ve put my sleeve in the marmalade,” Grant said mocking Roger’s perfect well brought up English voice, Roger rolled his eyes.
“What are you a wizard, or a moose?”
“A bitta both mate,” Grant replied, upon hearing this response Annie choked on her apple juice causing her eyes to squeeze shut whilst both boys slapped her back.
"Stop,” Annie managed to spit out, both boys looked apologetic.
“So what are your plans for today then Annie?” Roger asked.
“Err…” Annie started.
“That’s what we thought, so from now on you’re in our posse,” Grant said high pitched, that she thought suited him rather well.
“Are you sure, I won’t be interrupting your testosterone parties?” Annie said whilst putting on a macho voice.
“Nah we don’t do that sort of thing, after-all Grant waxes his chest,” Roger said mischievously, Grant however moved his hands up and down his chest before saying;
“Silky smooth BABY!”
Annie couldn’t help but choke on her toast with laughter, and this time it took ages to recover. This is what she needed, people who acted like they weren’t forty years old.
“So what are you guys wanting to do today?” Annie asked.
“Can you paint our nails?” Roger asked innocently.
“Or we can go play quidditch, why don’t we round up the Ravenclaw players?” Grant suggested, and almost at once Annie said;
“HEAR HEAR,” but Annie remembered she needed a book from the library to complete her charms essay.
“But err before we do that, can I go to the library?” Annie asked, Grant looked at her startled then slammed his fork down causing people from the nearby tables to look round and after minutes of staring at Annie he simply said;
“Sure why not,”
“All that, for this?” Annie asked half in shock, Grant looked pained.
“Why you no likey?” Grant said in a fake Russian voice.
“Oh Merlin, well I’m going to the library now,” Annie said rising from her seat, both boys made too do the same.
“What are you doing?” Annie asked confused.
“Escorting,” Roger smiled to which Annie returned.
“So may I have your arm my lady?” Roger asked mock bowing.
“An arm, a leg anything to get away from silky smooth here,” Annie nodding her head towards Grant then putting her arm round the gap in Rogers’ Grant however pouted and walked on in front, swinging his bum and walking like there was something wedged…somewhere uncomfortable until he stopped at the end of the Gryffindor table and stopped at a first year girl and said;
“HEY GIRLFRIEND!”
The small girl just looked at him and said to her friend, “I thought Ravenclaws were sensible?”
“YOU DID NOT JUST SAY THAT!” Grant screamed then turned around to Annie and Roger who were in silent stitches watching him.
“ANNIE DID YOU HEAR WHAT THAT…THAT GRYFFY JUST SAID,” Grant put his hands on his hips, and Annie who recovered at once detached herself from Roger and walked bitchily towards Grant turned to the girl and said;
“OOH NO BOYFRIEND SHE’S GOING DOOOWN,” Annie said in a gruff voice, Grant made movements as though he was about to lunge for the girl, where Annie had to half restrain him whilst he squealed “WAIT TIL I GET MY EARRINGS OUT” by this time half the Gryffindor table were watching whilst the three Ravenclaws were red faced and in complete and utter pain because of laughing.
“What is going on here?” A shrill Percy said pushing his glasses up, Roger was the first to recover, Annie and Grant were holding onto each other trying to keep each other from falling over.
“Sizing up competition, quidditch season starts soon,” Roger said politely, Percy made too speak however a voice did it for him.
“So you attack our first years, very mature,” Instantly Annie and Grant recovered, Annie a face of stone towards the voice -the voice of Oliver Wood.
“I think you’ll find it was not an attack merely a joke,” Grant said casually, Oliver gave him a dirty look.
“I think you’ll find you cannot attack our first years,” Percy said stubbornly but nobody was looking at him.
“Take a joke, and give over,” Annie snapped and stormed out of the Great Hall.
“Annie…ANNIE wait up,” Roger’s voice called out, Annie slowed and let him and Grant catch up.
“What happened back there?” Roger asked, Annie squeezed her eyes shut in annoyance, opened them, and then sighed.
“I don’t know why I’m telling you this but anyway, I hated my good image that I’ve attained over the last seven years, and I wanted to show I wasn’t just a rule follower, so I went too help the Weasley twins in a prank that I thought up, only for him to interrupt because he thought I was being irresponsible,” for a while neither boys spoke, until Grant broke the silence by saying;
“Heavy,”
Annie snorted in response.
“Well if one things for sure when we face Gryffindor in quidditch we’ll beat them and beat them for you,” Roger said enthusiastically, Grant nodded in agreement.
“Yeah of course … we don’t have to confirm that in blood or anything?”
Annie laughed and steamed on ahead too the library.
Annie appreciated the fact that she didn’t have to be a complete loner, and in fact she was enjoying the two boys’ company, was this how it was for Hermione Granger? If one thing was for sure, boys were less complicated, than girls’ were and she considered the friendship of the two boys’ the start of something beautiful.
