“The first thing that needs work is your hair. It would look better if you wore it down instead of in a ponytail all the time.”

“I like my hair.” I crossed my arms over my chest stubbornly

“You’re the one who agreed to this.”

I sighed knowing she was right. Stephanie pulled the rubber band out of my hair and grabbed a brush.

"You've got a lot of hair."

"I know."

My hair fell to my midback and curled slightly at the ends. Stephanie pulled the brush through my hair trying to get out the tangles that I hadn’t bothered to get out this morning.

“Time for make-up.” Stephanie exclaimed cheerfully twenty minutes later.

She had actually managed to get my hair to go where she wanted it to. I can never manage to do that.

“The trick is to have just enough make-up without having too much.”

I groaned. I usually only put on eyeliner and lip gloss. If Stephanie makes me look like a slut I swear I’ll kill her.

“There.” She had finally finished doing my make-up.

“Can I look now?” I asked impatiently.

“Yes. Since we still have potions later today you have to wear your uniform.”

I stood up and walked over to the mirror in the bathroom.

“Wow.” I whispered. Thankfully she hadn’t used too much make-up.

For once my bangs weren’t in my eyes; they stayed in place pulled over to the left. My hair looked silky and shiny. The curls looked amazing and not as horrible as usual. The make-up made my blue eyes stand out. I had to admit I looked pretty good.

“You’ll have no problem getting a date. Just don’t act like you want a boyfriend.”

“But I don’t want a boyfriend,” I muttered. I looked at the clock hanging in the bathroom. “Potions starts in 5 minutes.”

"We should get going."

We walk down the stairs and out of the common room. We were one of the first people in the classroom. I hate potions. I suck at it. I hope I get a good potions partner this year. Last year I had stupid James Potter. He was always fooling around and staring at Lily so that I had to do all the work. I have no clue how we managed to scrape an E in that class. People were starting to file into the classroom now. Stephanie excitedly told me that Will and Mike kept glancing my way.

Gaby is strange, even stranger than Marissa, which is saying something. She always pops up out of nowhere. It’s kind of creepy.

"Hey, Gaby."

"I like your hair."

“Nice hair, Cinderella,” Andy said smirking.

I scowled at him.

“No, really. I like it. It makes you look like a completely different person. It’s weird that by just changing your hair you can look so different,” he grabbed a piece of my hair and flipped it over my shoulder.

“No touchy,” I snapped and slapped his hand away.

Andy held his hands up. “Fine.”

Professor Slughorn walked in and like at the beginning of every month he told us not to sit down he would be assinging new seats. He liked to give us new partners every month, something about stengthening friendships and forgiving enemies. I thought it was stupid, right when you start to get used to your partner you have to get a new one.

“Lily Evans and Severus Snape.” Of course he puts his favorite students up front right in front of his desk. “Cinderella and Sirius Black.” Great. I’m in the front and by Sirius Black. This day can’t get any worse.

I slowly made me way over to the table.

“Who are you?” Sirius asked.

Didn’t professor Slughorn just say my name?

“Cinderella,” I answered.

“Are you good at potions Cinderella?”

I shook my head. “I’m awful at it.”

"Slughorn usually puts his favorite students in the front and I am definitely not one of his favorites."

I sighed. “All the teachers love me. I think it’s my name. Everybody loves my name.”

“But you don’t?”

“I hate it. My parents are insane. Why would they name me Cinderella? Why did they have to love fairy tales so much?”

“Calm down Cinderella,” Andy, who was sitting behind me, whispered.

“I’m calm.”

Sirius watched curiously as I took a deep breath. After I was calmed down I pulled my journal and muggle pen back out. We were supposed to be taking notes but instead I was writing something completely different.

"What are you doing?" Sirius whispered.

“Writing.” Duh.

“Because I want to.”

“You’ve got beautiful eyes,” he said randomly.

I looked up startled. “Thanks,” I said unsurely. I really hope he’s not the third person to ask me out. But then again he would probably dump me in a few days and I would prove Stephanie wrong.

I smiled sweetly at him before returning to my writing.

“Do you understand anything Slughorn is saying?” Sirius asked confused by all the big fancy words that Slughorn was using.

“You look like the kind of girl that would be hanging on the professors every word.”

I quietly snorted. “Yeah right.”

“Mr. Black, Cinderella, please pay attention.”

“Sorry, Professor,” I smiled my special 'I’m innocent' smile.

Slughorn smiled back at me. “It’s quite alright, Cinderella. Mr. Black, five points from Gryffindor.”

I smirked when Slughorn looked away.

“How did you do that?” Sirius asked with a hint of admiration in his voice.

“Easy. It’s all in the smile.” I once again smiled my 'I’m innocent' smile. “I can get out of trouble in even McGonagall’s class.”

Sirius nodded thoughtfully, "That's impressive."

I smiled, "And very useful."

Then the bell rang. I stuffed my journal into my bag and stood up. After linking my arm with Andy’s we skipped out of the classroom.

“You are so lucky.” Gaby gushed again appearing out of nowhere. “You get to sit by Sirius.” Gaby pouted. “I wish I could sit by my boyfriend.”

“He won’t be your boyfriend for much longer.” I muttered but Gaby didn’t hear me. She was too busy daydreaming about Sirius.

I rolled my eyes. Why do all the girls always fall for Sirius? Sure he's good looking but that's about it. He is always thinking about himself. Some girls are so stupid to think that Sirius might actually like them. He likes to break hearts and nothing more.

“Hey, Cinderella.” Jared, a seventh year Ravenclaw, said, coming to stand in front of me.

“Hello, Jared.” I smiled politely at him.

“I was wondering if you wanted to go to Hogsmeade this weekend.”

He looked a little hurt by my answer but it’s the rules. I have to say yes to the third guy to ask me. “Okay.” He walked away from me and was soon lost in the crowd.

"That was a little harsh," Stephanie pointed out frowning.

“He’ll get over it.” I shrugged.

“Wow,” Andy said with a fake shocked expression on his face. “Somebody actually asked you out.”

“Don’t look so shocked,” I replied.

“Well you are pretty hot. Especially with your new hair. I never new you had such beautiful hair.”

I punched his arm playfully. “Don’t you ever say that again.”

Andy rubbed his arm where I had punched him. “Man you hit hard.”

“I’m always beating up the neighborhood boys that make fun of my name.” I shrugged like it was no big deal.

Stephanie’s stomach growled. I looked over at her trying not to laugh. “Are you hungry Stephanie?” I asked. A blush crept up her cheeks and she nodded.

“Me too, let’s go get some dinner.” Andy said grabbing our hands and dragging us behind him as he ran to the Great Hall.

I rolled my eyes. Doesn’t Andy ever think of anything besides food? Andy loaded his plate up with food as soon as we reached the Hufflepuff table. I looked away so I wouldn’t have to watch the food flying out of his mouth as he talked to some fourth year guy that was sitting next to him. Don’t guys know how to use silverware?

Sirius’ POV

“Can’t you keep a girl for more then a day?” Remus asked as he watched Gaby run from the Great Hall with tears in her eyes.

“Nope.” I answered simply while shoveling food into my mouth.

“And why not?” Peter asked me after swallowing the food that he had in his mouth.

“Because that would mean falling in love.” I said as if it was the most obvious thing in the world.

“Why don’t you want to fall in love?” Remus asked curiously.

Don’t they understand that falling in love gives the person you fall in love with the power to hurt you.

I shrugged looking down at my plate of food.

“Falling in love really isn’t that bad.” James said thinking about Lily.

“How would you know? Lily rips your heart apart every time she looks at you.” I pointed out.

“But when I see her smile it makes it all worthwhile.” A far away look filled James’ eyes as his tiny mind was filled with fantasies about how Lily would finally admit her love for him. Why doesn’t he just realize that that will never happen?

“Love doesn’t exist.” I muttered thinking about my family. They had shown me that love isn’t real.

“If you gave love a chance you’d change your mind.” James said, my words snapping him out of his daydream.

“No I wouldn’t.” There’s no way I will fall in love. It’s impossible. “Nothing is going to change.”

“I dare you to give love a chance and date one girl for more than a day.” Remus said knowing that I can’t turn down a dare.

“Fine.” I snapped. “I’ll date a girl for two days.”

“That’s not what I meant Sirius.” Remus said with a slightly annoyed tone in his voice.

“I know.” I mumbled. “So who’s the lucky girl?” I asked my mood changing suddenly as I scanned the Great Hall. I need to pick the girl carefully. Maybe I can get her to break up with me.

“Not so fast Sirius. I get to choose the girl.” Remus said smirking. He knew that I would choose a girl that I could get rid of easily.

I scowled.

“The girl you have to ask out is Cinderella Kamier.”

Cinderella's POV

“I’m sorry Eric I already have plans.” I said sweetly to the Gryffindor that was standing in front of me blocking my way to the Hufflepuff common room. I forced my smile to stay on my face. I’m really tired and the only thing standing in my way from going to bed was Eric.

“Oh.” Disappointment flashed across his face. “I’ll see you around I guess.”

I sighed in relief when he walked away. My path was now clear. That’s when I heard crying and me being my Hufflepuff self went to investigate. Stephanie and Andy followed me, curious to see who was crying. We rounded a corner into an empty hallway except for the person leaning up against the wall with her hands wrapped tightly around her legs.

“What’s wrong Gaby?” Stephanie asked rushing forward to comfort Gaby.

“S-Sirius broke u-up with m-m-me.” she stuttered.

“I thought it would at least last two day.” I muttered to myself.

Stephanie sent me a dirty look and I shrugged. Andy put his hand over my mouth so I wouldn’t say anything else that might hurt Gaby’s feelings. She needs to come back to earth sometime. She’s always so happy and bouncy.

“He’s a jerk Gaby. You’re better off without him.” I smirked. Stephanie glared at me. She was thinking the same thing as I was. I had told her to tell Gaby he was a jerk when he dumped her.

“Well I’m off to bed. See you in the morning.” I turned around and started to head back to the Hufflepuff common room when I suddenly remembered something that my mom had told my cousin when her boyfriend dumped her. “Gaby.” I called after me. She looked up. I hated seeing her so hurt and fragile. “Guy’s aren’t worth your tears and the one who is won’t make you cry.” Gaby smiled and wiped her eyes. I knew I had made her feel better and it felt good to know that I had helped her.
