Author's Note: I'm so excited! CAMP ROCK TONIGHT! WOOT! I've been waiting for like three months and listening to the songs non-stop, as I am doing right now. It's going to be EPIC! Anyways, got lots of really good guesses about what would happen in Chapter 6 (this chapter) and almost all had something about them that was right. And as a note to another review. I know this is supposed to take place in the 70's, but in this story it's in the 80's and 90's for a very specific REASON. Ah, reasons, such wonderful things, aren't they? Most of the things in my story have a reason behind them, and if they don't....I was probably really hopped up on sugar when I was writing it. So here is Chapter 6, enjoy! Oh, and by the way, I'm in love with the chapter image I made for this chapter. I just find it so enjoyable! I was making it, and couldn't think of what to put and than I was like "OMG! THAT WOULD BE AWESOME!" And it turned out exactly how I planned. Anyways, read on! Oh, and another note. Man, I just keep forgetting everything! Anyways, my computer is being stupid, and keeps threatening to crash, so it's harder to put chapters on, but I will as much as I can, and still alternate them. Oh, and the preview, let's just say....I'm so teasing you! And it's not who expect (I hope). Now read!
It was the day after my flashback and I was now in the library looking up some of the things that were in the flashback.
"I don't know," I answered truthfully. I wasn't sure if I wanted to go or not. From what my flashback had showed of balls, they were supposed to be fun, but I still wasn't sure.
"You have a date, don't you?" Marley asked curiously.
"No," I answered.
"What? You are probably one of the prettiest girls in school. Surely someone has asked you," Lily said, looking at me incredulously.
"Not really," I said, thinking back to all the times it looked like someone was going to ask me, but then didn't.
"Hey Elle, I wanted to ask you something," A boy from Hufflepuff said.
"Excuse me," James said, putting a protective arm around my shoulders. The boy looked like he just wasn't going to say anything after that. "Whatever you were going to say, you can say in front of me."
"Oh...it was nothing," the boy said, walking away looking very crestfallen.
"I think James, Sirius, Remus and Peter had something to do with that," I thought I'd mention.
"Figures," Marlene said. "James is way protective over you. He definitely considers you as the sister he never had, and is obviously very protective of you."
"Yeah, I guess so," I said. "Who are you guys going with?"
"I'm going with William Edwards," Lily said, smiling slightly.
"I'm going with Cam Hunter," Marlene said. "But you are coming, aren’t you?"
"I don't know, I might just stay in the dorm that night," I said as I looked in the dictionary for the definition of the word "coronation" that I had heard in my flashback.
Coronation: the act or ceremony of becoming a king, queen or other sovereign.
Why would I talk about becoming a queen?
"Elle, you are coming with us next Saturday to get a dress, and on Halloween you will go to the ball, end of discussion," Lily stated. So much for getting a choice.
"Oh Eleanor!" James called rather loudly through the library, earning himself a disapproving look from the librarian.
"Yes James?" I asked, turning around in my chair to face him.
"Would you like me to escort you to the ball? Just as friends of course," James said.
"Sure," I said, half-smiling. Marlene started coughing, letting out something that sounded like "over-protective".
Earlier that day
"Okay gents, someone has to take Elle, because I am not letting her go with one of those pigs who want to get in her pants," I announced.
"Well, none of us have agreed to going with someone except for Wormtail, so...one of us could ask her, and then we could all keep and eye on her," Sirius suggested.
"Padfoot, that is probably one of the smartest things I have ever heard you say," Moony said, smirking slightly.
"That's just because you want to be the one in her pants," Sirius said, now bearing the all-mighty trademark Marauders smirk. Sirius has always been pretty keen on these kinds of things.
"I do not!" Remus defended, turning bright red. "I just find her very attractive."
"You fancy Elle?" I asked incredulously. I didn't know that but I probably should've, seeing as he's one of my best friends.
"A bit," He said, blushing even more.
"Well, I'd rather have you fancy her than anyone else," I said and he looked somewhat happier, although quite bashful. "Now, who's going to ask her? Moony?"
"I couldn’t," He said, looking at his shoes as if they had suddenly become interesting. I don't see how shoes can be interesting unless they're doing a gymnastics routine. Sirius and I charmed our shoes to do that once in Transfiguration...ah, good times.
"Understood," I said finally, knowing he would be way too shy to ask her. He was always like that when it came to asking someone he fancied out on a date or something. I didn't know why though...no girl would say no to him.
"I will," Sirius suggested openly.
"Um...no," I said. Sirius would probably get to horny or something, especially after the trick Elle and I played on them all. He'd try to pull her into a broom closet before the ball even started. He was my best mate and all...but I couldn't let that happen.
"Well, that only leaves you," Peter pointed out.
"Oh fine, I'll ask her. I wanted to ask Lily though," I said a little disappointed. Don't get me wrong, I liked Elle. Just not in the same way I liked Lily.
"Well, then let's promise on the code of the Marauders that no one will get a date and instead watch out for Elle, keep her away from the other guys," Sirius said, putting his hand in, the rest of us following suit.
Later that day
"I thought he would've asked you Lils," Marlene mentioned on our way back to the common room. Elle had left quite a while ago, but Marlene had wanted to stay and discuss some things.
"It's weird, he hasn't asked me out all year surprisingly," I said, feeling my cheeks burn.
"Ohmigod, you like him, don't you?" Marley asked incredulous. I guess it wasn't everyday that I was like this about James.
"Kind of," I admitted, turning as bright red as my hair, which I was shyly tucking behind my ear. I can't even believe I just admitted that! This was soo embarrassing.
"WHAT? When did this happen?" Marlene asked.
"I'm not sure, but once we got back, we made a deal to start acting civil to each other because of us both being friends with Elle as well as being Heads together. He's just started acting more mature. Like, he isn't always asking me out or picking on people. And I see the way he treats Elle just like a little sister, and he just go to me," I said, looking and feeling defeated. "And I told myself I wouldn't fall for him."
"OH MY GOOD MERLIN! THE APOCALYPSE IS COMING!" Marlene shouted at the top of her lungs, earning weird looks from the people passing by.
"Be quiet you idiot," I scolded. I didn't need the whole world knowing my dirty little secret. "I don't want anyone to know, especially not him. Deal?"
"Elle, are you done yet?" Lily called, in an almost nagging way. She had been doing that for the last fifteen minutes, and honestly, I wanted to tape her mouth shut.
"Almost! I can't get the zipper up!" I exclaimed, tugging on the zipper until I heard it finish its journey up the back of my dress. I walked out of the stall and looked in the mirror.
I was wearing a black, halter-style dress that was very low-cut, showing quite a bit of the newly formed scar. It was really fitted around my top half, but at my hips it fell loosely to my knees. I had on a pair of black high heels that had a bow-like shape on them that showed off my toes.
I walked out of the bathroom to show the girls and they gasped. Lily had chosen the dress for me, but neither of them had seen it on me, as I had refused to try it on.
"Do I look okay?" I asked, tugging at my dress in every direction, trying to make it so it wasn't showing too much at the top, as well as making sure it wasn't showing too much at the bottom.
"Amazing," Lily said, a huge grin plastered on her face.
"Really?" I asked, looking at them in slight confusion as well as slight shock because I didn't think I looked that good.
"Duh!" Marlene exclaimed, throwing her hands out in a dramatic flourish to emphasize her point. "The guys are gonna be all over you, if they can get through the Marauders, that is."
I laughed at this, knowing that she was probably right about the Marauder part.
"Just one thing," Lily said, flicking her wand at me. I looked in the mirror and my hair had been pulled up into a messy bun with a black feather thing in it. "So are we all ready to go down now?"
"Yup, let's go," Marlene said. I had to admit, Marley and Lily looked gorgeous.
Lily had her hair in big soft curls and was wearing a dark, bottle green dress, almost like mine but without any straps.
Marlene had her hair in a fancy updo with a few pieces falling loosely over her face, and was wearing a pretty light blue dress that matched her eyes perfectly.
We walked down and James couldn't keep his eyes off Lily. I knew he wanted to go with her, so I don't know why he asked me. It seemed pretty pointless in my opinion. Oh well, doesn't matter really. Probably went into "over-protective brother mode" as Marlene had called it.
"Elle, we'll have to see you there, we have to go meet our dates," Marlene said, winking at Remus. What was going on between those two? Remus was now turning bright red and looking very embarrassed.
"Um...you look very nice tonight Elle," Remus said, turning an even brighter shade of red as Sirius snickered at him.
"Um...thanks," I said awkwardly. Something was going on, I just wasn't that sure of what it was.
"Let's go," James said, interrupting the awkward silence as we started walking out, Remus and Sirius walking behind us.
"You know," I whispered. "I know you wanted to go with Lily, so why didn't you ask her?"
"I'm trying to show her my more mature side, which means not asking her out on a daily basis, although it's killing me," He said, a looking of obvious pain on his face.
"Well why did you ask me then?" I asked. "You could probably have any girl in this school if you wanted to."
It was true. I had heard all the girls talking about him in the lavatories, and then trying to get me to put in a good word with him, although I didn't know any of their names so it never happened. Not like it would've even if I had known their names.
"No reason," He answered a little too quickly. As we walked into the Great Hall, we saw it had been transformed. There were carved pumpkins with lights inside them all over the room and all sorts of candy for us to have.
Music was already playing as went onto the dance floor. James and I started dancing (very awkwardly as I didn't know how), Remus and Sirius started dancing with random people before the song ended and Sirius came over to dance with me.
"This is weird," I said randomly to Sirius as I frowned.
"And why is that?" He asked.
"This dancing, I'm not used to it," I answered. The amount of the truth in that statement was overwhelming. I hadn't danced at all, so it was an understatement to say it was slightly awkward.
"You'll get used to it eventually, love," Sirius said as the song changed. "See ya later."
"Bye," I said, waving before he was swept away by another girl wanting to dance with him.
"Hey, you wanna-"
"Sorry, I'm dancing with her," Remus said, putting his arms around my waist protectively. Why did my stomach feel like it had little butterflies flying around in it? Ohmigod, maybe butterflies flew into my mouth while I was sleeping and were now in my stomach! AH!
"But...you were...other side," The boy stuttered.
"Bye," Remus said to the boy as the aforementioned boy stormed off. The slow song continued and I wrapped my around his neck, his arms slinking around my waist once more. I leaned my head against his chest as we slowly swayed to the beat of the music.
"What are you guys up to?" I asked him suddenly.
"W-what do you mean?" He asked.
"Well, someone just tried to dance with me, and you wouldn't let him, although they had clearly been here first and were starting to ask me unlike some people," I said, looking into his amber eyes. He looked away almost immediately after, blushing profusely.
"We're not doing anything," He said, avoiding eye contact with me as the song changed and some random girl asked him to dance. "See you around.
"Yup," I said as I want to one of the tables to get a drink.
"Elle!" Marlene and Lily called in unison, taking my attention away from the task at hand.
"Come get a picture with is!" Lily called, signaling me over. I walked over, and one of their dates was holding a camera.
"What do I do?" I asked Lily, looking at this camera contraption in a very confused manner.
"Just smile," She said, doing what she had told me to do. I attempted to do the same, but it was easier said than done. It ended up having me looking very confused as a bright flash went off, sending me tumbling backwards.
"Whoa there, might not want to fall over and ruin your dress," A familiar voice said after catching me and helping me back to my feet.
"Hi Andrew," I said, turning around to face him.
"Hey Elle, you look absolutely stunning tonight," He said, leaning against a wall.
"Thanks," I said, feeling my cheeks grow hot. "So where's your date?"
"Don't have one," He said simply. How could he not have one? He was like, one of the most attractive guys at school! At least, I think...
"Well, I wanted to ask this absolutely gorgeous girl that I know, but every time I got near her four other guys would act as her bodyguards," He said.
"Who are you talking about?" I inquired.
"Oh..." I said. That was definitely an unexpected answer.
"So, do you want to dance? Unless your date has a problem with that," He said, nodding to the dance floor where James was dancing with some girl in a pale yellow dress. It didn't really look like dancing. She was more or less clinging to him.
"My date sure hasn't acted like a date," I noted, "so sure."
He took me by the hand and led me onto the dance floor during a slow song, and we started dancing.
"You know, I've really enjoyed being your partner in Potions," He said.
"Yeah, you're really good at it," He said.
"Oh, thanks..." It hadn't been the answer I was expecting...no, hoping for.
"Well, there is another thing that I liked about being partners with you," He whispered in my ear.
"I like getting to know you, which leads me to what I'm about to ask you," He whispered. "Will you be my girlfriend?"
"That's like dating, right?" I asked, not sure if I was right. I think that's what Bridget and Marlene had said.
"Okay," I said, smiling and blushing at once when he intertwined his fingers with mine as we continued to dance.
"Hey Elle, let's dance," James said as he walked over, looking very angry. I noticed he didn't ask me to dance with him, but rather demanded I dance with him.
"Actually James, I'm dancing with Andrew right now," I said defiantly.
"But I'm your date," James said through gritted teeth, glaring at Andrew.
"And she's my girlfriend," Andrew said, raising his eyebrows challengingly.
"No she's not," Sirius said, now backing James up.
"Yeah, I am," I said quietly. I'm not sure I liked this confrontation thing very much. And people were starting to watch. I don't think I liked that either.
"Elle, I need to talk to you," James said through his gritted teeth, grabbing my upper arm roughly and dragging me away from everyone else. "What were you thinking?"
"That hurt!" I whined, rubbing my now very sore arm. I started looking down at my feet, because looking at him would make me feel bad and regret my decision. But that's just it. It was my decision and I had no reason to regret it. And besides, my shoes were pretty interesting....
"He's a bad guy Elle," James said, placing his hand under my chin and forcing me to look at him. "He's just going to break your heart."
"No he won't," I said. "I trust him."
"God Elle! What is wrong with you? I'm trying to protect you!" James yelled, throwing his arms out.
"Stop yelling," I said quietly.
"Elle, we were doing this to protect you and then you go and do something like this!" He yelled again. Why did he have to yell? I really hated yelling. I hid in my room whenever there was yelling in the common room.
"Well, you know what? Maybe if you had actually acted like my date, maybe this wouldn't have happened. Maybe you should be such a jerk!" I yelled back at him, a whole different side of my taking over. It was totally shocking my introvert self at how angry I was, and how loud I was being. "If it was one of our friends, or more specifically your friends, you wouldn't give a care in this world! But you just don't like him! And you're just mad because Lily went with someone who isn't you!"
"How dare you!"
"How dare you tell me who I can and can't date!" I went back over to Andrew. "I'll see you tomorrow."
I started stalking away, trying to get away from the overly protective James Potter.
"Eleanor, don't walk away from me!" He yelled after me, running to catch up.
"Don't use my full name!" I yelled back at him.
"Why can't you see that I'm just trying to protect you like a good older brother would?" He asked, trying to catch up my quick pace.
"Don't even bother! You're not my brother! I don't have one!" I screamed at him. He looked really hurt by that, and just walked in the opposite direction. I know this sounds really bad, I'll be the first to admit it but at the moment, I didn't care if he was hurt. I was hurt that he wouldn't let me do what I wanted to do. He was being so stupid and trying to stop me from being happy with someone. I guess something just had to change.
Next time on "Remember"
His lips met mine and he started kissing me very lightly, using his hands to pull me closer to him. Our chests were touching when I snaked my arms around his neck, my hands reaching up and playing with hair as if they had a mind of their own. As he deepened the kiss, his tongue begged for entrance, tracing my lips. I slightly parted them, allowing it to enter. Our tongues were dancing with each other, but then we broke apart.
I had felt nothing like that before. Swarms of butterflies had been flying around in my stomach, my heart pounding and there was this...spark. More like fireworks. Actually, it was more like five huge fireworks shows.
