I couldn't believe it, after all me and James had done, Voldemort had managed to kill us. But we had died protecting our son, which is what we wanted. My throat tightened and my heart clenched, as I thought of our beautiful baby boy. Would he survive? He looked and acted so much like his father, and now if he survived he would never know either one of us. Putting the thoughts of my precious son aside for a second, my thoughts turned to James. Where was he? Was he here? I looked around the thick white fog that surrounded me, but I couldn't see him anywhere.
"James" I called out fearfully.
"Lily" I heard his voice call out.
"James where are you?" I called again panicked.
"Keep talking I'll find you" he shouted back. "Where's Harry?" he shouted.
"I don't know…" I sobbed. "He was alive when I died.” Suddenly I hit something solid, turning around I found myself face to face with the man I loved. "James!" I exclaimed flinging my arms around his neck, he kissed me in return.
"What about Harry?" he asked and I could see the tears running down his face. Suddenly the fog disappeared, and we found ourselves in a bright white room.
"Mr & Mrs Potter?" A deep voice asked.
"Yeah?" we both said together.
"I am Mr White, welcome."
"Where are we? Where's our son?" James asked.
"Firstly, you are in heaven, in what is now known as the Potter room, it is where you will spend eternity, you can change it to any colour you like and demand things such as beds or chairs. Secondly, thanks to Lily, Harry survived, due to an ancient magic called love, your sacrifice for your son protected him from the evil that is Voldemort. When Voldemort turned his wand on him the curse rebounded destroying Voldemort and destroying your house, now Voldemort is not dead however he exists merely as a soul that will one day come back for his destroyer."
"So Harry is alive?" I asked tears of joy leaking from my eyes. The man nodded.
"But Voldemort will return?" James said solemnly.
"Unfortunately, but Harry will get a few years peace before he has to fight him again." he replied turning around. "Oh and one more thing." he said turning back again; we both looked at him expectantly. "You get to watch him grow up." He added, and disappeared with a pop. Suddenly a large screen appeared, but the picture was fuzzy.
"I can't believe he's alive." I said excitedly, I then added 'sofa', and a large red leather three seated appeared for us to sit.
"Yeah…" James whispered.
"Honey, what's wrong?" I asked, seeing his ashen looking face.
"I just can't believe..." He stopped, chocking up. "I can't believe I won't get to watch him grow up, properly I mean"...he added when I opened my mouth to say something..." I love him to bits, and he's never going to experience that kind of love. My baby boy is going to grow up alone and scared"
"James look at me." I said, cupping his face in my tiny hands. "He's going to be fine, Sirius will look after him, I know you miss him, I do to but we have to let go." As I said those last words to James my heart broke, that's the last thing I wanted to do he was my baby boy and I was supposed to let him go.
"I can't" he said weakly, tears pouring down his face. Ever since Harry nearly died from wizard flu at three months, James had developed a separation issue for fear of losing him. I knew how he felt as I felt the same way, but I had to be strong.
"We have to" I said in a firm but soft voice. I knew what he was thinking it felt like he had died instead of us. Finally after a while James nodded. "Sorry." I murmured as I kissed him.
"You have nothing to be sorry for." He whispered back when we broke apart. Suddenly there was a loud clicking noise, and a picture flashed on the T.V. in front of us, we both dashed to the screen as an image of our baby boy appeared.
I knew there were tears rolling down James' cheeks as we heard Harry's calls of 'Dada' as there was on my own when he cried 'Mama' and so it began the watching of our beautiful baby boy growing up.
~16 Years later~
My hand clenched in to fists as I walked down the halls of Hogwarts, being careful to step over the rubble as I went. We were currently in the middle of what was hopefully to be the last battle. At the minute we had been given a brake to mourn our losses and count the dead, and I had been given a ultimatum by Voldemort to either surrender myself now or continue fighting I had no desire to surrender, but whilst I was looking for Remus' body to put beside Tonks, his wife, I was pulled away from my search by Dumbledore and took to his office.
" I can't be" I whispered the colour draining from my face, feeling dizzy I grabbed onto the chair in front of me, trying to get my head around the news I'd just been given.
For the past two years Dumbledore and I had been hunting for Voldemort’s Horcruxes. Which were objects with pieces of his soul hidden in them, we had just found and destroyed the last one when he gave me the startling news, there was one more, me.
"I'm sorry Harry, it happened when he attacked you when you where one. When the curse rebounded and hit him the last remaining part of his soul fled his body and searched for something new to live in, you."
"That's why I am so like him in some ways?" I said. Dumbledore nodded. Then it hit me. "I have to die?" I whispered.
"I'm afraid so, Voldemort himself cannot die unless all the Horcruxes are destroyed, it is the only way." He replied solemnly. I looked unconvinced. "Think of what your parents would do." He added. Damn him, how did he know what my weak point was. I thought it through for a short while, then coming to a decision I left his office, without another word.
And now here I was, walking out the front doors, anger pumping through my veins. I stopped for a second and took in the bloody sight before me, but then I remembered that I couldn't be seen, so I threw my father’s invisibility cloak over me and moved on.
"No, damn you Dumbledore." I shouted angry.
"What's wrong love?" Lils asked me.
"Dumbledore has just told Harry that he's a Horcrux and that he has to die. Now Harry is heading for Voldemort."
"No he can't." She wept.
"I know…" I said, wrapping an arm around her shoulder, as we watched are son heading for death.
Harry took his time walking through the forest, being careful not to trip on anything, trying to be as quiet as he could. All too soon he reached his destination, we watched with baited breath as Harry listened for a while, before whipping of his cloak.
"No, no" I whispered but he couldn't hear me. Suddenly I heard Voldemort say those fateful words.
"Avada Kedavra!" and my son was dead.
"No!" I screamed tears pouring down my face, my wife collapse beside me, and I quickly used my other arm to catch her and pull her back up again, I held her tight as she sobbed into my shoulder. I looked at my best friend, Sirius who had also died for my son, he looked awful, his eyes looked dead, his face was white and tears rolled down his face.
“Mr & Mrs Potter." A voice I knew as Mr White said suddenly. We both looked up as did Sirius. "As you've just seen Harry has died"...Lily let out a sob at that point..." But because he was a Horcrux, he has the chance to live again as his own person.”
"Really?" I gasped joy spreading through me, as much as I wanted to be with my son he could not die, not yet.
"Yes, he will be coming to a different room for a short while, whilst he makes his decision. So one of you has to speak to him."
"I'll do it." I said immediately. I looked at Lily and she nodded.
"You go ahead love, as much as I would love to see him; I'm in no fit state to." She said. I kissed her head.
"Look after her." I said to Sirius.
"My pleasure…" He replied. I kissed my beautiful wife again and then turned to the man.
"Lead the way" I said nerves building up inside me. He smiled and grabbed my arm making us disappear with a pop. We landed in another white room and there he was, my son. He was nearly as tall as me and just as bulky, with being a top Quidditch player.
"Don't be too long." Mr White whispered, and disappeared silently.
I stood there for a few seconds, before deciding to add a couple of things to the room. 'Sofa' I thought and a two seated appeared behind Harry but he didn't seem to have noticed, whatever he was staring at it had his full attention. Thinking again I suddenly thought 'Light Blue' and the walls changed colour, this got his attention.
"What the..." He began staring around wildly, but stopped at the sight of me.
"Hi" I whispered feebly.
"Dad?" He asked his voice horse. I nodded. He stepped closer to me, looking into my eyes the whole time. When he reached me, he lifted a hand up to touch me, but hesitated and lowered it. So I lifted a hand and cupped the side of his face smiling. Suddenly he leapt forward and engulfed me in a hug surprising me for a second, but I quickly wrapped my arms around him holding him tight.
"I've waited so long to do that." I said, after what felt like hours.
"I know." he replied, pulling back, we both had tears in our eyes.
"Where's mum?" he asked.
"She couldn't come, but she's fine, she sends her love." I replied. He smiled.
"He's fine too, misses you, and says that you shouldn't blame yourself, he doesn’t."
"He should." He replied, looking away.
"No, Harry." I said, making him look at me again.
"He, your mum and I all died fighting for you because your someone worth fighting for, someone worth dying for." I said, and led him to the sofa. "He enjoyed the rearrangement you done in Dumbledore's office though, so did I we both cheered you on, your mother however thinks you shouldn't have done it though. She wasn't angry"...I added at the look on his face..."She just thought that you shouldn't have done it, but she's like that and by the way…." I said, and he looked at me. "You get your temper from me; I am just as quick to lose my temper as you are.”
"Do I?" he asked with a snort.
"Yes, you really are more like me than you know."
"Glad to be." He replied, smiling. I smiled back and hugged him again.
"As much as it pains me to say this, but we're here for a reason." I said after a few minutes. He released me, and looked at me confused. "You've been given a chance to live again, because you were a Horcrux, you can go back to living again.” I said.
"I can go back?" He whispered. "But what about you?" He asked.
"I will go back to watching you, as I've always done." I replied smiling. He hugged me again.
"I don't want to let go." He whispered. My heart broke; I remembered that fateful night I came here sixteen years ago.
"You have to." I said reluctantly, his tears soaking my shirt, as I cradled him. I pulled away. "Remember your mum, Sirius and I will never leave you, I promise, and we ...I will always love you, my baby boy" I said, he gave a watery smile. "Here…” I said, reaching up and unclasping the necklace that Lily had given me when we got engaged. I leaned forward and clasped it around his neck. He looked at it and gasped. It was a solid gold, sixteen inch curb chain with gold stag and Lily charms hanging off it. "I love that necklace, but I love you more." I said, he smiled, and hugged me again.
“I love it and you." He replied. "I suppose this is it?" He asked, standing I followed suit.
"Unfortunately…." I replied, sadness in my voice. "Oh and when you get back down there, and you kill Voldemort, go for it with Hermione and tell her you love her, she feels the same."
"Really?" He asked, surprised, a blush creeping on his cheeks. I nodded.
"OK, I’ll make you proud."
"I've always and will always be proud of you." I said, smiling. He nodded, we hugged one last time and I kissed his forehead. "Go get her." I said and he laughed.
"Love you." he said, disappearing.
"Love you to." I replied and he was gone, tears rolled down my cheeks. Slowly, I to disappeared back to the room I lived in.
"How was it, is he OK?" Lily asked, as she saw the tears running down my face.
"He's fine, perfect in fact, considering. God Lily, he's brilliant so much better than I imagined." I said smiling. She hugged me and gave me a kiss.
"What's happening, Pads?" I asked at my frowning friend.
"My delightful cousin, Cissy had just told Voldemort that he's dead." He replied.
"What?" I shouted and ran to the screen.
"It's okay, you can see him breathing" I looked, my heart soaring, as I saw my sons’ chest rise and fall slightly. Suddenly Voldemort lifted him up from the ground, and began to lifting him up and down, spinning him around with his wand, I felt sick.
"Stop!" Lily screamed. He did, Harry fell to the ground, with a sickening thud. I winced and so did he. Hagrid then appeared out of nowhere, and was forced to carry him back. I watched sadly as Hermione screamed at the sight of his 'dead' body. Hagrid laid him down, and once there was a distraction, Harry slipped the cloak on him and entered the crowed of people, careful not to bump into someone. He only lasted a short while, as Voldemort turned his wand to Hermione.
"Portego!!" He screamed, whipping the cloak off him, the crowd gasped. He and Voldemort then circled each other, throwing insults at each other. Finally Voldemort lost his patients with Harry, and turned his wand on him, but Harry was quick.
“Avada Kedavra!" They both shouted and the curses connected, my breath caught my throat as I watched, but Harry was stronger.
"Go Harry" I cheered, suddenly the curse broke, and the receiver was blasted off his feet, dead. "He's dead…" Sirius and I said to Lily, who had her back turned to the screen.
"Harry?" she gasped.
"No Voldemort..." I said.
As Voldemort fell, so did I, wincing slightly as my knees hit the floor. Suddenly, someone with a lot of bushy brown hair was hugging me. I gladly accepted it.
"You did it, you did it." She said, pulling away from me, tears flowing down her cheeks. I smiled, and wiped away the tears, and then full of adrenalin, I kissed her and to my great surprise, she kissed me back, we were like that for a few minutes, before we both pulled away for air. "I thought I'd lost you…" She said.
"Never…" I replied, and we kissed again. Once we broke apart, we found Ron, and exited the great Hall together, where I spotted someone I wasn't expecting. "Remus?" I said, surprised.
"Harry?" He replied, equally surprised. "I thought you died?" We both said and then we hugged.
"Look we have to find a classroom, I've got loads to tell you" I said, and dragged them into an empty one, down the corridor. "I saw my dad." I said.
"What?" the other three chorused.
"I can prove it look." I said, and pulled the necklace out from under my shirt. They gasped
"How? James was buried with that on." Remus asked.
"I know…" I replied, and told them the story of meeting my dad.
~4 years later~
Remus and the Weasley's were sitting in the hospital waiting room, waiting for the news of the birth of Harry and Hermione's first child. The door opened suddenly, and a dazed and happy looking Harry came into the room. He had a goofy grin on his face, and didn't seem to register that someone was in the room with him.
"Harry?" Remus asked gently.
"It's a boy." He beamed. The room cheered. "You want to see him, Remy. He's so tiny, weighed 6lb 7oz. He has my hair, my nose, my mouth, but my Dad's eyes."
"James it's born." I shouted to my husband, he and Sirius rushed forward.
"What is it?" James asked excited.
"A boy, he looks like Harry, but he has your eyes." I replied and James beamed.
"So what's his name?" Remus asked.
"James Sirius Potter." Harry replied.
"Can we see him?" The room asked and Harry nodded. When they left, Harry took out the necklace that James had given him.
"For you Dad." He whispered, he brought the charm up to his lips before putting it back down his shirt and leaving the room.
"He called him James" he whispered. We looked at each other and smiled, our son has finally got the life he deserved.
