“Draco how... I mean can this... I don’t know what to say. Why?” She stammered suddenly feeling a slight effect of vertigo. Draco was looking at the scene before him. He knew this was going to be hard to explain and he also knew that if he didn't do it right his plan could backfire on him like badly worded jinx.
“Well I did some research and believe me it took a lot of digging. I had to call on one of my contacts from Durmstrang, who had a friend that was in contact with a guy who...I can’t remember his name but said he could help to.”
“Draco just hurry up and tell me” she said looking rather annoyed and impatient.
“OK well after the information got back to me I studied for the whole night. Trust me I had hardly any slee...” Hermione gave him a stern look. “Anyway I found out that your mother had been a pupil at Hogwarts. She was a transfer from Beaxbatons after her family moved to England. Not only was she a student but Jean Granger’s father was in fact a pure blood wizard. Descendant From the noble house of Ryella whose blood line traces all the back to one of the most ancient of all Hogwarts founder Rowena Ravenclaw.” Taking a deep breath and revealing a toothy grin that made his eyes raise high he said. “Surprise”
Hermione’s expression changed from boredom to total awe. She stared at Draco then at her mother, then at Draco and then at her mother. She repeated this couple more times before Draco couldn’t stand her reaction anymore and clamped his hands on either side of her head.
“So what do you think? I'm pretty amazing huh?”
“I can’t believe it. That means I'm not a”
“Mudblood” Hermione raised her eyebrow. “I mean muggle born” Draco corrected.
“So I'm a half blood. I have a lineage dating back to one of the Hogwarts founders and my mother kept all of this from me.” Hermione said while she watched her teenage mother laughing with her group of friends. Hermione stared for a while. It was true her mother was quite beautiful. Hermione resembled her almost exactly except for their hair which Hermione had unfortunately inherited from her father. Jean wore the uniform of a Ravenclaw student and had a small badge pinned to the chest of her robes.
“She was in Ravenclaw.” Hermione stated in a dreamy soft voice. She seemed to slip into a trance that took Draco a little while to snap her out of.
“So how come I haven’t been able to find any record of my mother anywhere, surly I would have noticed her name somewhere?”
“Well that's what I thought until I recognised the dates that she enrolled at Hogwarts. Jean had only been at Hogwarts for half a term before she left, because she had already completed most of her schooling in France, she didn't need to be at school. She left to take up a small job working at St Mungos. Soon after she fell in love with a muggle man which I presume was your father. She vowed to give up magic and live a normal life. After about a year they married and I guess the rest is history.”
It actually made sense. Her mother had accepted that she was a witch fairly quickly, it was more of a shock to her father than Jean. Why hadn’t she seen it before?
“So why wasn’t I in Ravenclaw?” Hermione questioned. Draco gave a blank stare.
“I don’t know maybe you portrayed more qualities of a Gryffindor than a Ravenclaw, I mean it happens. Look at Potter he was walking down the path of a Slytherin until he choose to become a Gryffindor.”
Draco took Hermione by the hand and used his right hand to caress her jaw and cheek. She looked amazing and he couldn’t stop drowning in her chestnut eyes.
“I know this is a huge shock but I wanted to do something special. I'm about to take you through a timeline of your life to help you remember the good times in your life. I guess I wanted to start somewhere special.” Hermione smiled and mouthed the words thank you.
Taking one last look at her teenage mother, wearing the Hogwarts uniform she held up a hand and blew a kiss, then turned to Draco.
“I'm ready” She said and she wrapped her arms around his waist and clasped her hands together. Laid her head on his chest. She felt the rising of his lungs and the beating of his heart. Somehow through the all of the skin and bones she heard his heart. This time it was speaking. Shouting out to her she was convinced it was saying I love you. She closed her eyes and felt time spinning.
Hermione looked up hoping she wouldn’t succumb to time travel sickness like the first time she had used the magical device. As Draco let go he gently took her shoulders and walked her down the stairs of the clock tower. They sneaked past a couple of students whom she vaguely recognised. In fact after they passed another group of students Hermione knew what year they were in.
Finally reaching their destination Draco took Hermione’s hand and led her closer to the library. Draco checked for anyone around the corner. When he was sure the coast was clear her led her into the large familiar doors of the Hogwarts library. Hermione’s eyes wandered the room until they targeted a familiar four faces. It was Hermione, Harry, Ron and Draco. They were all a lot shorter than they were now. Like little children Hermione could have sworn she was never that short.
As for her hair she cringed. “Did my hair really look like that?”
Draco let out a small laugh. “Yes babe it most certainly did.”
She moaned, not sure if she wanted to torture her eyes much longer they walked to the bookshelf opposite the kids who were in a heated argument.
“You’re wrong, you see I can get along with mudbloods. I laugh at them and they run away and cry. It’s a wonderful friendship if you ask me”
“Well we didn't Malfoy so why don’t you take you plastic little head back to the dungeon where it belongs, or are you to afraid of the dark. Scared the pink pixie of doom will bite your nose off while you sleep.” Ron taunted. Harry laughed in the background while Hermione looked at Ron hoping he would sit down before he got hurt. Draco sneered
“Wait until my father hears about this, he’ll have all three of you in detention for a month.”
“Nobody cares about your stupid father Malfoy all you eve do is go crying to your daddy. Daddy daddy the mean Gryffindor’s were being mean to me boo hoo make them pay daddy wah wah.” Harry joked, mimicking Draco in a baby voice.
Hermione laughed at the scene giving Draco a small nudge.
“Hey I was only little I didn’t know better. Bloody Potter was a lot meaner than I was.”
“Serves you right she teased” It was like watching a Theatre performance of her life. Moments she had forgotten in her first year of school, were now reforming in her head jogging her memory. Draco watched as she watched the four of them pull out their wands.
“Well I guess we better go before were seen. Taking hold of the time turner he wrapped it around their necks and turned the dial five times anti clock wise and two times clockwise. The feeling returned and they plunged again into a tornado of time.
This time when they stopped Hermione was looking at Draco. This time he was in his fourth year. His father had started training him and it was showing on his face. He was quietly drawing all over a piece of parchment. Hermione couldn’t read what he was writing but didn't need to. Draco stared to explain.
“Here is me a year after you punched me. Might I add a very good punch indeed. It must have lit a fuse because ever since that day I became more and more humble. You see this was the point in my life where my father had started my training to recruit me for the Dark Lord. I never wanted to be a Death Eater no way in hell would I ever pledge my allegiance.”
Hermione stood holding Draco’s hand and watched as he pulled out his homework as he did so he revealed a small glittering box in his satchel. Hermione noticed the glistening box and turned to Draco. He had somehow produced the same box that she had just seen. Draco presented it to her.
“My mother had given me this after my last training. She asked me to keep it safe and when the right time came I would be able to bestow it upon whom I wished, the same as her.
Hermione went to open it but Draco put a hand on top of hers. “I would ask you to open it at the end of the tour milady” He bowed his head and Hermione giggled. She put the small box in her pocket and smiled. They were of once more, drawing closer and closer to the present.
Draco took Hermione on another quest around the School grounds. She felt like a mouse running around a maze she had no idea where it ended. They continued to travel through times of their lives. Hermione and Draco reminisced the day He had placed the blanket over her sleeping form and when Hermione had fallen from the heavens. After a long journey of time travel Draco took them down to the river that flowed through the grounds. Standing under a magnificent tree, Draco asked her to pull out the box he had given her earlier. Presenting the silver box she ran her fingers over the jewels encrusted over the surface. Draco took it from her small and fragile hands.
He lifted the lid and revealed a stunning silver ring. It had an intricate carving of a swan and set in the middle was a shinning emerald with two smaller diamonds on either side. Hermione was speechless. Draco took the ring and placed it on her ring finger on her right hand.
“Hermione this is my commitment to you. I will love you, cherish you, and worship you. I will always be there for you whenever ,wherever. I will protect you when you need protecting and I will comfort you when you need comforting. I cannot explain in words how much I love you so I thought by giving you this ring I have signed a deal that I will love you till the day I die and no one will ever take that away.”
Hermione had beautiful tears running down her face. She was so fortunate to have fallen in love with him and she didn't understand why she couldn’t speak. Instead Hermione jumped up on him and wrapped her legs around his waist. He put his arms around her and they kissed passionately. Their love and emotion was enough to spark a fire. A fire so hot it would have burned the entire river dry.
Hermione suppressed a laugh and Draco spun her around. Realising it was late they ran back to their dorm.
Little did they know a furious and outraged wizard had watched them from the shadows. Gritting his teeth he snapped the stick in his hand.
