Four Weeks Later…
“I can’t believe that it’s been four weeks already.” Hermione said to Harry. Hermione and Harry were eating breakfast at the corner coffee shop.
“Four weeks?” Harry said teasingly.
“Since we started dating.” Hermione said in a smart tone.
“I know, I was only kidding.” Harry said. “It’s been incredible, by the way.” Harry added with a smile.
“It has.” Hermione added mirroring his smile.
“Do you think that Ron is over Jo being gone?” Hermione said as she stirred her tea.
“He seems to be, he only brings her up every other day now. Do you think that she went back home?” Harry asked.
“I don’t know. Her stuff is gone. I really don’t care if I don’t see her for a while.” Hermione said.
“I’m sure that you won’t see her for a while.” Harry said.
“So, do you have plans tonight?” Hermione asked.
“Why do you ask?” Harry said.
“I was going to have the gang over for dinner and drinks.” Hermione said.
“I’ll be there.” Harry said.
“Just come by after work, you can help me get things ready if you want too.” Hermione said.
“Okay, sounds good.” Harry said.
They continued eating their breakfast when someone came into the coffee shop and walked up to them. “Hiya Harry, Hiya Hermione.”
“Hi Ron.” Hermione said with a wide smile and added, “Have a seat.”
Ron scooted in next to Hermione as she slid around to sit next to Harry. Hermione invited Ron over to the dinner at her house.
“That sounds like fun, everyone coming?” Ron asked.
“The usual group.” Hermione answered.
“So, how are you two doing?” Ron said pointing to Harry and Hermione.
“Okay, who are you and what happened to Ron?” Hermione laughed.
“Can’t I ask how my two best friends are doing?” Ron said.
“Ginny usually hounds us with these types of questions.” Hermione said.
“To be quite honest, I passed her on the way in; she asked that I ask you.” Ron said.
“We are doing great. Just like last week and the week before.” Harry said.
“Personally, I think that it’s great that you two finally started dating. I was wondering when this was going to happen.” Ron said.
“I better get going; I don’t want to be late for my meeting the head of the Ministry.” Harry said and then stood up and pulled Hermione up into a hug. “I’ll see you after work.” Harry said and then gave her a quick kiss. Harry left and then Hermione floated back down into her seat. She let out a sigh.
“I’m still here.” Ron said waving his hand in front of Hermione’s face.
“I know.” Hermione said blinking back to reality.
“You are really smitten, aren’t you?” Ron asked.
“Yeah.” Hermione said.
“Uh, Hermione. You mind if I ask you something?” Ron said as he twirled his thumbs back and forth nervously.
“No, ask away.” Hermione said.
“I was uh, wondering, if you heard from, um, Jo.” Ron said hesitantly.
Hermione looked up at her best friend and felt bad. She had not made any effort to contact Jo and didn’t really want too. But, she could tell that Ron really liked her. She reached across the table and patted Ron’s hand and said, “No, I haven’t. I’m sorry.”
Ron shrugged. “I guess it’s better off. She didn’t really seem to be that into me anyway.” Ron said.
“She doesn’t deserve you.” Hermione said.
“That’s sweet of you to say.” Ron said and then added, “I best be off. See you later on tonight.”
“See you.” Hermione said and then waved the waitress over for the check.
“Yes, miss, can I help you?” the waitress said.
“I’ll take the check now.” Hermione said.
“Well, looks like it’s been paid for already” the waitress smiled.
“By whom?” Hermione asked.
“Harry. He paid just as he was leaving.” The waitress said and then cleared the cups and plates from the table.
Hermione reached over and grabbed her things and headed out of the coffee shop. She practically ran right into him. “Sorry.” She said as she stepped back and awkwardly smiled at Viktor.
“I’m sorry, Hermione. I didn’t see you there.” Viktor said.
“That’s okay, well, I’ll be seeing you. I need to get to Hogwarts.” Hermione said as she headed off in the direction of the bus that took her there every morning.
“Wait, I’ll go with you.” Viktor said speeding up to catch up with her.
“That’s okay” Hermione said with a smile and then turned back towards the road.
“I’m heading that way anyway.” Viktor said walking right next to Hermione as it was not that hard for him to catch up to her. Hermione stopped and then turned towards Viktor, “I rather go by myself, if you don’t mind. I have a lot of notes to go through on the bus.”
“Oh.” Viktor said stepping back.
“I’m sorry,” Hermione said quickly as she noticed that she must have hurt him and then added, “What are you doing tonight? You can come to my house for dinner. I am having everyone over, they will be happy to see you.”
Viktor suddenly perked up, “Sounds wonderful. What time?”
“8:00” Hermione added with a smile and then said, “I’ll see you later. Bring someone if you would like.”
Viktor waved and said, “See you later, then.”
Harry walked into the Ministry of Magic and headed towards the meeting room. He was in a hurry as he often was but then saw a small elf running towards him. He stopped and the elf was holding a note in his outreached hand, “Sir, Mr. Harry Potter, Sir, this is a letter for you.”
Harry reached down and grabbed the note out of the elf’s hand and unfolded the letter:
Dear Mr. Harry Potter,
This is to inform you that the scheduled meeting has been moved to 11:00 AM today.
Ministry of Magic
Harry smiled and welcomed a few hours before the meeting. He thanked the elf and headed towards his office. He walked through the crowded hallway. He headed down the hallway and up a back staircase into a private floor. He unlocked his office door and laid his things in a chair that sat next to his desk. He went to his chair and sat and looked at the piles of work that laid in front of him. He took a deep breath and dove in. He didn’t even notice when someone was standing in his doorway.
“Good morning, Harry.” Colin Brooks, a professor that helped with all of the hires within the Ministry.
“Oh, good morning Colin” Harry said. “I didn’t see you standing there.”
“That’s okay; I wanted to tell you that we finally found someone to work with you.” Colin said.
“Really, I thought that it would be another six months before someone would be qualified. Who did you find?” Harry asked.
“They come highly recommended, I am sure that you two will get along.” Colin said and then stepping aside to let Harry’s partner enter. “I’ll let you two get acquainted. See you at the 11:00 Meeting.”
“See you Colin”, Harry stood and walked to the door and then was floored to see who was standing in front of him.
“Nice to see you again, Harry.” Jo said. “”Looks like we’ll be working together.”
“Hi. This must be a mistake.” Harry said back.
“No, it’s not. I come highly recommended.” Jo said with a wide smile.
Harry let out a deep sigh and then grabbed his things and headed out. “Where are you going?” Jo said.
“I’ll be back later.” Harry said.
