Harry and Hermione enjoyed a few moments more of peace and quiet. Hermione turned and looked over at Harry and said, “We better get back, they will come looking for us.”
Harry sighed, “I guess you are right.” He stood up and reached down for Hermione’s hand to help her up from her chair. She reached for his hand and he raised her to a standing position.
“Thanks.” Hermione said.
“Hermione”, Harry whispered.
“Yeah,” Hermione said as she looked up into his eyes.
Harry took a deep breath which in turn made Hermione take a deep breath. He just couldn’t bring himself to ask her out. The moment was perfect, he was just afraid of what she might say. Hermione looked at Harry as she could tell that he was trying to figure something out. She tilted her head to one side and smiled up at him, “You okay?”
Harry pulled out of his thoughts spoke, “Yeah, let’s go.”
Hermione said, “What did you need?”
“Nothing.” Harry said mad at himself.
They walked back down and joined the group in the booth. Somehow, Neville had now occupied Hermione’s seat beside Ginny and the only open spots were next to Jo. Hermione smiled to herself and to Ginny as she slid in next to Jo. Harry slid in next to Hermione and leaned over and whispered, “Thanks.” Hermione
Ginny winked at Hermione and Jo was furious. She turned to Hermione and quietly said, “What’s the big deal?”
“What do you mean?” Hermione asked.
“You know that Harry is mine.” Jo said in a hushed voice.
“Jo, remind me to talk to you later. I think that you and I need to talk about a few things and one of them being that things aren’t always as they seem.” Hermione said back in the same hushed voice.
Jo let out a huff. She excused herself and told them all goodnight and for once, did not touch Harry at all.
Hermione was thrilled. Harry reached over and said, “What did you say to her?”
“Nothing.” Hermione said.
“Whatever it was, it worked.” Harry said.
The gang continued their meals and finished their drinks. After they paid for their meal, they all headed outside. Hermione yawned and told everyone good night and that she would see them all tomorrow. Ginny and Neville left to go back to Ginny’s apartment for some alone time. Ron and Harry remained. Ron turned to Harry and said, “So, do you think that I have a chance with Jo?”
“Why do you want to go out with Jo?” Harry asked.
“She pays attention to me.” Ron said.
“Ron, you could have a lot of girls, I don’t think that Jo is that nice.” Harry said.
“She’s amazing. I think that I really could have a chance with her.” Ron said.
“As long as you know what you are getting into.” Harry said as they continued to walk down the street.
“How are things between you and Hermione?” Ron asked.
“Things are the same.” Harry said.
“Come one, you two were up there on the roof for about 30 minutes and you didn’t ask her out?” Ron said.
“Yes, you are quite right. I’m a git.” Harry said.
“Yeah you are. You just missed out on a perfect chance to ask her out.” Ron said.
“You think that I don’t know that.” Harry said.
“Don’t worry; I think that Hermione really likes you.” Ron said.
“How do you know?” Harry asked.
“The way she looks at you and plus Gin told me.” Ron said.
“Why can’t I just ask her out, why it is so hard to ask her out?” Harry said.
“Perhaps because, this time, it’s real. The two of you have been best friends forever and you are both realizing there is a lot more there. You don’t want to ruin the friendship that you two share.” Ron said.
“Wow, that’s really insightful. Ginny’s rubbing off on you.” Harry said.
They continued to walk back to their apartment and Harry went on into his bedroom and shut the door. He threw off his shirt and jeans and put on some stripped pajama pants and an old Hogwarts t-shirt that he had. He went to sit at his computer and turned on MagicWeb. MagicWeb was a web-based program for all witches and wizards to share news and talk all over the world. Sometimes, Harry jumped on to see if there was anything interesting or look for any bad wizards. He saw a link for Singles and though he never really signed onto that chat room before, he decided to sign on to check it out.
He thought about an username and decided to go with HogwartsWizard. It was simple, but it would do. He didn’t want anyone to know it was him. He would never hear the end of it from Ron.
For a few minutes, he sat back and just read the comments in the chat room…
HOGWARTSWIZARD HAS SIGNED ON
WITCHYONE: Hi everyone, I’m Amber. Who’s up for a date tomorrow?
DAREDEVIL: Send a picture and we’ll tell you.
DAREDEVIL: HAHA… You are scared…
DracoM: Hey WitchyOne, I’ll take you out.
(Harry laughed as he knew who DracoM was. He continued to just sit back and read…
WITCHYONE: Draco Malfoy, is that you?
DracoM: Yes, of course. Who is this?
WITCHYONE: I’m not telling you.
DracoM: Come on, I told you who I was.
WITCHYONE: Yes, you did. But, it doesn’t mean that I have to tell you.
DAREDEVIL: HAHA, Draco Malfoy can’t find a date.
DracoM: Shut it Goyl, I know that’s you.
DAREDEVIL HAS SIGNED OFF
(Harry never thought how much fun it was to watch people act ridiculous in a chat room was before. Conversations went back and forth like this for a little while. Then, Harry saw someone he might like to talk to.)
HOGWARTSWITCH HA SIGNED ON
HogwartsWitch: Hello Room.
WITCHYONE: You may not want to be here, Draco’s here. LOL
DracoM: Stop saying that to everyone who joins this room.
WITCHYONE: You aren’t embarrassed are you?
DracoM: Who is this?
WITCHYONE: I’ll never tell.
HogwartsWitch: Anyone else in here besides you two?
(Harry was nervous, what do you say in a chat room. He felt it was easier than speaking to someone face to face.)
WITCHYONE: Where did you come from?
HogwartsWitch: Hi HogwartsWizard.
HogwartsWizard: Hi HogwartsWitch.
WITCHYONE: Hello, I was talking to you too.
WITHYONE: Shut it Malfoy!
WITCHYONE: You wish..HAHA
DracoM: Hmm… I’ll figure it out eventually.
A screen popped up on Harry’s computer and it said:
“HogwartsWitch has requested private chat with HogwartsWizard”
Harry clicked on the accept button.
A new window opened and it was just him and HogwartsWitch.
HogwartsWitch: Had to get out of that room. I can’t stand Draco.
HogwartsWizard: Me neither, but, then again, who can.
HogwartsWitch: So, when did you go to Hogwarts?
HogwartsWizard: A while ago. I don’t know if I want to tell you who I am.
HogwartsWitch: Don’t worry; I don’t really want to tell you who I am either. This is the
first time that I have done something like this. I don’t really chat online that much.
HogwartsWizard: Me neither. This was the first time that I ever signed on.
HogwartsWitch: So, let’s make a deal that we don’t talk about anything too personal.
HogwartsWizard: That sounds like a deal to me. One question though. You are a girl,
HogwartsWitch: Yes. You are a guy, right?
(AUTHOR’S NOTE: In MagicWeb, You are unable to type a lie..)
HogwartsWizard: Yes. So, what do you like to do for fun?
HogwartsWitch: Hang out with my friends, you?
HogwartsWitch: Do you work?
HogwartsWizard: Yes, but I can’t say where. Do you work?
HogwartsWizard: Do you have a boyfriend?
HogwartsWitch: No, do you have a girlfriend?
HogwartsWitch: Well, that’s good to know. I’m not chatting with someone who is
currently in a relationship.
HogwartsWizard: So, when did you go to Hogwarts?
HogwartsWitch: A few years ago.
HogwartsWizard: When did you start?
HogwartsWitch: September, 1991
HogwartsWizard: No kidding?
HogwartsWitch: Yeah, why?
HogwartsWizard: Me too!
HogwartsWitch: Okay, this has just turned to weird. We must know each other.
HogwartsWizard: Maybe, what house were you in?
HogwartsWitch: Hmmm… Let’s keep that secret for now. Just tell me you weren’t in
HogwartsWizard: Nope, not a Slytherin.
HogwartsWitch: Now I know why we both don’t like Draco!
HogwartsWitch: Do you play any sports?
HogwartsWizard: Yes, I used to play Quidditch.
HogwartsWizard: Yes, you?
HogwartsWitch: No, they wouldn’t want me up there flying.
HogwartsWizard: Did you go to the games?
HogwartsWitch: Everyone I could go too. I had good friends that played Quidditch.
HogwartsWitch: Sneaky… Not telling you.
HogwartsWizard: I tried.
(Harry was finding it easier and easier to talk to this girl online. It was nothing like he had done before.)
HogwartsWitch: So, what position did you play?
HogwartsWizard: Now, who is being sneaky?
HogwartsWitch: Were you a good student?
HogwartsWizard: Define good.
HogwartsWitch: Who were you favorite teachers?
HogwartsWizard: Tough question, I liked a lot of my teachers throughout the years.
Professor Lupin was great! Hagrid was wonderful!
HogwartsWitch: Yes they were!
HogwartsWizard: I wonder if we had classes together.
HogwartsWitch: I’m sure we did.
HogwartsWizard: I need to get to bed soon.
HogwartsWitch: Me too.
HogwartsWizard: It was fun chatting with you.
HogwartsWitch: It was great for me too. You think that we could do this again
HogwartsWizard: Yes, I would like that.
HogwartsWitch: Okay, well just be on the lookout for my username and I’ll be on the lookout for yours. We can also owl-mail to each other through MagicWeb too.
HogwartsWizard: Okay. I have to be honest; I’m not the best penpal.
HogwartsWitch: That’s fine.
HogwartsWizard: Talk to you soon.
HogwartsWitch: Yes, I hope so.
HogwartsWizard: Good Night.
HogwartsWitch: Good Night HogwartsWizard.
Harry turned off his computer and smiled. He felt butterflies in his stomach and wondered who the mystery girl was? He couldn’t wait to sign back on to chat.
