Author's Note: Hey everyone! So this is Chapter 3, as you can see and it takes place on the Hogwarts Express. Hence the name. Sorry there won't be a preview for the next one, as I don't have it yet. So yeah, here's the chapter, and make sure you read and review and that would be loverly. Thanks!!!!!
It was really sweet though. After Bridget and I had finished talking, I came out of her room to find the boys had labeled everything, so I would know what it was. It was a pretty little thing, but it did mean a lot to me.
But today was the day we were actually going to Hogwarts. I was really excited. From everything they’ve told me about it, it sounds really interesting and fun! And I've already read all the books that were on the book list, as well as some from previous years. Some of the things they talk about are confusing, but I expect we'll be learning more about them once we get to the school.
"So you're telling me that I'm supposed to run through that very hard looking brick wall to get onto the platform?” I asked.
What are they thinking? You can't possibly run through a wall, can you? I thought before shaking it off.
We had arrived at King's Cross Station only a few minutes ago and were standing outside Platforms 9 and 10. The boys had just told me to run through the wall to get onto the platform we need to get on.
"It's magic, of course you can," James said.
"Well then, what have I got to lose?" I gripped the handle of my trolley tighter than I had been previously and ran towards the wall, closing my eyes as tight as humanly possible.
I kept running, not sure when to stop, because I was almost positive I was going to run into the wall. But when I didn't, I began to wonder. Did I not go towards the wall? What if I got half-way through but now I'm stuck? Wow, imagine that. That would be quite the predicament.
When I opened my orchid purple eyes, I was in front of an amazing scarlet steam engine that was surrounded by a bunch of people, wearing what Bridget would wear around the house and when she went to the Ministry.
"Wow," I muttered, looking around at everything, although my attention was focused mostly on the train in front of me.
"Nice, huh?" Remus asked, bending down slightly as he said this, so he was at my height.
"It's amazing!" I answered.
"Come on! Let's get on! I want to see Lily!" James whined, jumping up and down in anticipation.
"Wow, you sound like a five year old, you know that Prongs?" Remus asked as we all boarded the Hogwarts Express.
"Yes, I do know that, and quite frankly, I don't care," James said as we walked down the aisle, trying to find an empty compartment. When we finally found one (which wasn't actually empty, James and Sirius just kicked out a bunch of smaller kids) we sat down, putting our trunks underneath the seats.
I plopped down in the seat next to Remus, and across from James and Sirius.
"So James, why are so excited to see a lily? Isn't that a flower?" I asked, looking at him confused.
"Yes, and the love of my life," James said in a dreamy voice.
"So you're in love with a flower?" I asked, looking at him strangely. James was in love with a flower? Well, that's...creepy. There's no other word for it.
"No, no, no. What he means is that it's the girl that James has been chasing and slightly stalking since first year," Sirius said, snickering slightly.
"Hey! That's not fair! I only did that once...okay, a few times during second year!" James defended (and not very well, might I add).
"So you love a girl named Lily?" I asked.
"Yes. And she's incredible!" James exclaimed, going back into dream mode.
"Interesting," I said before I stood up and opened the compartment door beside me. "I think I'm going to go for a walk."
As I left the compartment, closing the transparent door behind me, I walked down the aisle, getting lost in my thoughts, trying to remember. Anything would do, but still, nothing would come to me.
I had been doing this a lot lately. Trying to remember, that is. But it seemed that no matter how hard I tried, I couldn't remember anything! It was so infuriating!
"Ohmigod, I am so sorry!" A girl with flaming red hair said after we collided, causing us both to fall to the ground.
"It's okay," I said genuinely. I stood up and brushed off my clothes, which consisted of a strapless orchid purple shirt that was almost a dress, a pair of black leggings, and a black belt hanging loosely around my middle sections as to not add any pressure to my injury. I also had on some orchid purple "ballet flats" as the girl in the store called them, except I was missing one of them. "I just can't find my other shoe."
"Here it is!" She exclaimed, holding it up before handing it to me. I slipped it onto my bare foot. "Are you new?" She looked at me quizzically with her bright, emerald green eyes.
"Uh...yeah, is it that obvious?" I asked, blushing slightly.
"Not really, but someone who looked like you would be remembered," She said. "Especially because of your eyes. They're totally unique. You also look my age, and I’ve never seen you around school before."
"Oh." She was kind of weird. I don't know why, but she was. Just something about the way she was acting.
"I'm Lily Evans," She said, holding her hand out towards me. Why was she doing that? What was it supposed to mean?
"I'm Elle," I introduced myself as she lowered her hand, before giving me a puzzled look. "Trust me; you do not want to know my full name."
"Nice to meet you," She said. "So do you know anyone here or...?"
"Yeah, I have a few friends," I replied.
"Oh, who?" She inquired.
"James Potter, Sirius Black, and Remus Lupin," I answered.
She burst out laughing, but I didn't really know what was so funny. I didn't make a joke, did I? I just said some names. This is one of the reasons I think she's so weird! She's laughing for no reason!
"Oh, you're serious," She said as soon as she had seen the look on my face.
"Why wouldn't I be?" I questioned.
"It's just; they have their own close group of friends. They all call themselves 'The Marauders' and they aren't really friends with girls...well, except Remus," She noted.
"Wait; are you the Lily that James was talking about earlier?" I asked.
"Unfortunately, yes," She said, laughing slightly as she blushed.
"He really likes you," I said earnestly. "Of course, at first I thought he was talking about an actual lily so I was getting really creeped out that he liked a flower."
Lily laughed again, but I could actually see why this time. "Wow, you are really funny! I'm just wondering, how are you friends with them?"
"Well, James saved my life apparently," I said. "And I've been staying with the Potter's all summer. If you can count being in a coma staying with someone."
"Oh god, what happened?" She asked as we started walking.
"Well, I don't really remember, that's the problem. Apparently, James heard me being attacked and when he found me I was unconscious or something like that," I said as we came up to my compartment.
"Wow..." Lily said in awe, before being forced back to the issue at hand. "Wait, I can't go in there."
"Why not?" I asked.
"Because that stupid arrogant git Potter is in there, and I don't need him ruining my dad," She said.
"He's not as bad as you think. He's actually pretty sweet," I said. "Please! And if he gets bad, I'll...kick him in the shins or something. Please!"
Lily giggled and finally agreed, so we walked in to receive shocked looks from everyone. I guess they never thought they'd see the day that Lily Evans would come into their compartment willingly...and they were half right.
"Um...hi," Lily said nervously. They all greeted her in return and I looked around to see there was someone new sitting there. He was a smaller, slightly pudgier boy who was sitting in the corner by Remus. He had straw blonde hair and watery blue eyes.
"That's Peter Pettigrew," Remus said, obviously having seen the slightly confused look that was plastered on my face. "And Wormtail, this is Elle. The one we told you about."
"Hello. How was your summer?"
"It was okay, how was yours?" I asked in reply.
"So Lily Blossom, I see you've met Elle," James said, suddenly taking on a very egotistical tone to his voice. That was weird...I've never heard him act like that before.
"No, really?" Lily asked sarcastically, making James blush.
"Sorry, I was being stupid," James said bashfully. Now that was more like the James I knew.
"No," Lily sighed, her voice full of exasperation as she took a seat next to me. "You were just asking a question."
There was a very awkward silence in the compartment.
"So...Remus, you made Head Boy, right?" Lily asked with a look of hopefulness in her eyes.
As if to finish his sentence, James took what looked to be a tiny crest out of his pocket and pinned it to his chest. It read "Potter" in small letters and then "Head Boy" in bigger ones. Oh yeah, I remember him saying something about that.
"No...this can't be happening! No, no, no! It doesn't make sense! You were never a prefect! This goes against the rules!" Lily shrieked. "Remus should be Head Boy! Not Potter!"
"Glad to see you love me just as much as you did last year," James said sarcastically.
"James, I think you've finally made her go insane," Remus said, raising his voice so he could be heard over Lily's tantrum.
"Hey guys. I thought I heard Lily in hear, as weird as that sounds and...I guess I was right," I girl with light blonde hair and striking blue eyes said, seeing the red head on the verge of tears. "Weird."
"You're telling us," Sirius said as we all continued to watch the red-headed blur.
"I take it she found out that James was made Head Boy," The girl said.
"Yup," Peter responded, nodding his head rapidly.
"Well, she's taking it better than I expected her to," the girl said, looking very amused by all of this.
"That's it! The meeting is soon, so I'm going to get ready," She said, leaving the compartment in a huff.
"I'll come with you!" James said, following her out, for her screams to penetrate the compartment door, not even moments later.
"Hey, you must be the new girl everyone's talking about," The girl said, taking a seat where James was previously seating. "I'm Marlene McKinnon, but my friends just call me Marley."
"I'm Eleanor, but these guys just call me Elle," I introduced.
"Nice to meet you," She said. "So what house do you think you'll be in?"
"House?" I asked.
"Yeah, it's where you live for the rest of your life at Hogwarts. There are four of them. Gryffindor, which is the one everyone here is in, it's for the people who are chivalrous, brave and loyal. Hufflepuff is for people who are really hard working and determined, and Ravenclaw is for people who take pride in their wits and smarts, not that I don't, but hey, a girl can only do so much. And then there's Slytherin. That's a whole different story right there. They're supposed to be sly and cunning, but in reality, it's really people who are evil bullies. Most people in there will probably become Death Eaters," She said. If you hadn't figured this out already, Marlene liked to talk a whole lot.
"What's a Death Eater?" I asked. She gave Remus and Sirius a questioning look.
"They're Voldemort's followers," Sirius said.
"So, I think they'll put Elle here in Gryffindor, what about you Sirius?"
"Well, she's definitely Gryffindor material," Sirius said.
"So Sirius, is our little bet still on?" Remus asked slyly, changing the subject in the process.
"Every year, Sirius and I have placed bets that by the end of the year, James and Lily will have gotten together, but every year, I saw they won't and I win. How many years is it now Sirius?" Remus asked.
"Four," Sirius grumbled. "But this is the year, I can feel it! They'll get together, I'm so sure that I'll bet 50 galleons on it."
"I'll take that bet," Remus said. "What about you Peter? Whose side are you on?"
"Sorry Sirius, but I have to go with Remus. It's not going to happen," Peter said, looking apologetic.
"Same here," Marley said bluntly.
"I'll go on your side Sirius, because even though I don't know what galleons are, I totally think that James and Lily will get together," I said.
"Yeah!" Sirius shouted excitedly. "See? They will! Mark my words!" Everyone went back to talking, Remus, Sirius and Peter talking in hushed tones.
"Okay, well, I'm going to get changed," Marlene said. "Wanna come?"
"Sure," I said simply as I left the compartment, following Marlene out with my uniform in my hands,
"So, you seem to be pretty popular around here," Marlene noted.
"What do you mean?" I asked. If I wasn't confused by all of this before, I definitely was now.
"Every compartment I went into, and mind you that was every compartment because yours was the last I would've checked for Lily, but anyways, they all said something about the hot new girl," She said, taking a deep breath after that extremely long sentence.
"Hot?" I asked. I didn't know someone could tell the temperature or your body by looking at you.
"Attractive, beautiful, pretty, sexy, that kind of thing," She said. That made much more sense. "Anyways, that really got me interested because I thought 'Hey, maybe we can get to her before the Slytherins so we can make her an actually good person!' and then by total fluke, I found Lily and you at the same time. But enough of that. I have another question. What is going on with you and Remus?"
"Once again, what do you mean?" I asked.
"Well, there was definitely some sparks back there if you know what I mean," Marlene winked.
"I actually don't know what you mean," I said as we walked into two empty changing stalls that were right beside each other.
"You know, chemistry, umm...you like each other!" She exclaimed in a desperate attempt to get me to understand.
"Yeah, he's a good friend," I said.
"That's not what I mean," She said getting frustrated. “I mean you want to be his girlfriend and he wants to be your boyfriend!"
We both stepped out of the changing rooms and looked into the full-length mirrors that were just outside of them.
"I still don't know what you mean. I probably would if it was before my accident, but..." I started but she cut me off.
"You had an accident?" She asked.
"Long story short, I lost all of my memory," I explained.
"Well that explains everything!" She exclaimed. "So what I mean is that he wants to kiss you, hug you, hold you hand, touch you, hold you in his arms, take you on dates and that kind of stuff and you want to do the same with him."
"Oh, I haven't really thought about it like that," I said, while looking in the mirror and fixing my hair. Hey, I may have lost my memory, but girls are girls and it just comes naturally.
"Well, you should. He's probably...well, actually, he is one of the most popular guys in school, and you have to snatch him up fast," Marlene said.
"But I don't know if I like him like that," I said.
"Well personally, I think you do and I know he definitely likes you," She said before looking at me. "You know, I love that thing on your face. The butterfly wings."
"Oh, this?" I said, pointing to it and she nodded. "It's alright."
"It's so unique, I love it," She said. "But you know, your uniform looks really awkward, let me fix it." She started undoing buttons, loosening my tie, and making my skirt shorter.
"Much better," She said as started walking back to our compartments. "I've got to go back to my own compartment. The train's going to be arriving at the school soon, so I'll see you at school, okay?"
"Sure." I said and as I went to turn around, she stopped me.
"Don't forget to think about what I told you," She winked before going in and closing the door to her compartment. I walked a bit farther down and went into my own compartment where it went dead silent. They were all just staring at me oddly.
"What?" I asked. "Is something wrong?"
"Nope, just finishing up a conversation...about mooses...which should be called meese in the plural form, and I think they are. I can't exactly remember," Sirius rambled before James put hit hand over Sirius' mouth to shut him up. I looked over at Remus and he was just staring at me.
"Are you okay Remus?" I asked, waving a hand in front of his face. He snapped back into reality and started blushing.
"Oh yeah...just...um...trying to think of something," He said, going even deeper red.
"Elle, I got a message from Dumbledore," James interrupted. "You're supposed to ride the carriages up to the school, and then I'm supposed to take you to his office to get sorted."
"Okay," I said as the train came to a stop and we all got off. There was a large amount of carriages waiting for us, pulled by very odd, yet beautiful horse-like creatures. I stood there staring at the creatures before being shaken out of my trance.
"Elle, get in the carriage!" James scolded.
"Okay!" I said exasperatedly as I ran and jumped in, accidentally landing on Remus' lap. "Oops."
"That's okay," Remus mumbled, blushing as he moved over slightly so I could fit in.
We arrived at the school and James started walking down the halls at a very fast pace, taking many twists and turns, making it so I had to run to catch up to him. We finally came upon a staircase that was guarded by a gargoyle.
"Lemon Sherbert," James said and the gargoyle jumped aside, causing me to jump as James headed up the staircase. "Are you coming?"
"Yeah," I said as I tried to catch up to him.
"Professor Dumbledore, this is Eleanor Knightley," He said, turning to me. "That's it, right?"
"Yeah, I think so," I said as I looked around the office. It was filled with all sorts of gizmos and gadgets.
"Would you like a candy?" He asked and I nodded vigorously as I sat down, James sitting down in the chair beside me. Dumbledore held a bowl of candy towards me, where I graciously took on and popped it into my mouth, letting a grin spread across my face.
"So I have heard about your current situation. You cannot remember anything from your past, am I correct?"
"Yes," I said.
"And someone attacked you?" He asked.
"Yes," James answered this time.
"Hm...interesting. I think it would be safe to say that you shouldn't tell anyone else about the accident, other than the ones you have already told," Dumbledore said. "And Mr. Ollivander has told me of your ability to do wandless and non-verbal magic. I have alerted your teachers of this. I also have a feeling I know something from your past, but it is for you to find out. Your teachers have been told about your current situation and if you need to leave the room for any reason, just tell them, and they will let you out right away." I nodded as he continued, "Now, Professor McGonagall will have to come up here to get the sorting hat soon, so shall we sort you now?"
"Okay," I said, nodding as he took an older looking pointing hat and handing it to me.
It was very old indeed. And there was a very big tear near the brim. I wonder why...
"Just put this on," Dumbledore said as I did what I was told. I put it on my head, the hat falling down to my nose as it started talking to me.
"Hm...not much I can work with here. What happened to all your memories?" The hat asked me.
"I lost them. I can't remember anything from my past," I told it.
"Well, I'll work with what I have so far. Hm...you seem pretty loyal to the friends you have right now, and definitely brave," It said. "So there's only one house for you."
"Cool," James said. "So can we go down to the feast now?"
"Of course, just don't forget to come back up here after the feast with Miss Evans, Mr. Potter," Dumbledore said, chuckling slightly. "Just one second."
He flicked his wand and my uniform went from its plain black, to have different aspects of it turn red and gold.
"Thanks!" I said as I waved to him on my way out. We went to what James called the "Great Hall" and sat down at the table where everyone was wearing red and gold as well. This must be the Gryffindor table. This whole room though, was absolutely stunning! There were torches everywhere, lighting up the room, and the night sky was showing through the ceiling.
I sat down beside Sirius, James going to the other side to sit near Remus as we all waited for something to happen. What we were waiting for...I didn't know.
A bunch of little kids were being sorted into their own houses (which I found extremely boring, so I didn't pay attention. I just made sure I clapped at the appropriate times) before Dumbledore started talking.
"Welcome to all of our new students and welcome back to ones who have returned for another year of educating," Dumbledore said. "This year will be very excited as we have decided to make it fun, due to current events in the Wizarding World. And to do this, we have arranged for a musical to be held. More information on that will be posted in the Entrance Hall tomorrow. For now, tuck in!"
Food appeared on the previously empty gold plates that were in front of us and we all began eating. The foot was absolutely delicious, making me want to try everything.
"Elle!" Lily called as she walked down the table until she was sitting next to me, as well as Marlene. "Are you going to audition?"
"For what?" I asked absentmindedly.
"For the musical!" Lily and Marlene exclaimed in unison.
"Oh, I don't even know what a musical is," I said.
"It's like a play but with singing and dancing," Lily explained.
"Oh, so you have to be able to sing, right?" I asked.
"Well, I don't know if I can sing," I said.
"You can audition anyways. Just get someone to help you," Lily suggested.
"Problem: I only know six people," I mentioned.
"Are you guys talking about the musical?" James asked and we nodded in response.
"It sounds like fun, it being our last year and all," Remus said.
"We should do it!" Sirius proclaimed.
"Well, Elle here seems to think she shouldn't because she doesn't know if she can sing," Marlene said, rolling her eyes at me, so I stuck my tongue out at her.
"Don't worry Elle, I'll help you. I know how to play piano," James announced.
"Since when have you been able to play piano?" Lily asked.
"I've been taking lessons since I was five," James said, looking at her seriously.
"Isn't it just amazing what you learn about someone when you're not screaming at them Evans?" James asked and Lily turned as bright red as her hair. "So how about it Elle? If I help you, will you audition with us?"
Next time on "Remember"
"Do you guys know who 'Mr. King' is?" I asked the two.
"A muggle singer that goes by the name of 'Elvis Presley'?" Marlene suggested for Remus to give her an odd look. "What? My parents always listen to that guy."
"Whatever. He's actually coming over right now," Remus answered as I turned around to see.
A guy with tanned skin and ocean blue eyes came walking over. He had light brown hair that was spiked, the tips frosted with bleach blonde.
"Hey, I'm Andrew," He said, sitting down beside me.
"Definitely not Elvis Presley," I heard Marlene whisper behind me.
"I'm...who am I again?" I asked in a dreamy voice, not looking away from his eyes.
