Rose was in the Entrance Hall looking for Scorpius, but he was nowhere to be found. She then thought that he’d probably be waiting outside. She opened the tall shiny doors and headed out. As she was walking she heard voices from somewhere, she looked ahead and not very far away there were 2 figures standing together. She couldn’t tell who they were. She went closer and closer and soon saw a saw a blonde boy having his back towards her, she realised that he was Scorpius, and to her horror, he had his arms wrapped around a girl. She didn’t know who the girl was.
“Oh Scorpy! Do you really love me?” said the voice of the girl; Rose guessed that it was the voice Jonquil Zabini. She stood there frozen. She couldn’t move a muscle.
“I love you more than anything, my darling Jonquil!” said Scorpius. He then embraced Jonquil and kissed her.
It took Rose a few minutes to realise what was happening. Hot tears started streaming down her face. She couldn’t believe what she was beholding. She then turned away as fast as she could and ran upstairs to the common room.
No one was there, they were all having breakfast. She went upstairs to the dormitory and lay on her bed. Her face was very wet from the tears she had extracted. She than recalled the scene she had just saw. She couldn’t believe it. Was Scorpius in love with Zabini, and had he just asked Rose out to make her feel like a fool? Rose thought that he had actually hated Zabini, but it turned out to be the opposite. “I guess dad was right!” Rose thought. “He told me to never trust a Malfoy. And I did!” Rose hated herself to have fancied him all this time. She was fooled! She couldn’t believe it. She never again would set eyes on that insufferable Malfoy.
She stayed there for half an hour crying. She didn’t want to go to Hogsmeade anymore. Her heart was broken and she actually thought that Malfoy liked her. She was stupid to believe it. After a while, Rose heard the door open. She didn’t know who it was and wasn’t intending to.
“Rose! Is that you?” said the voice of her cousin, Lily Potter. Lily came and sat next to her on the bed. “Why didn’t you come have breakfast? And what are you doing here upstairs alone? It’s nearly time to go to Hogsmeade you know.”
“Lily...I’m not going to Hogsmeade...I don’t feel like it” Rose muttered turning around to wipe the tears out of her face.
“Merlins beard! Why were you crying?” asked Lily impatiently.
“I wasn’t crying...” Rose said quickly.
Lily raised her eyebrows. “Don’t lie to me Rose. I know you were. And can you tell me why?”
Rose didn’t know what to tell her. After a few seconds of silence she told her it was nothing.
“Rose I know something had bothered you and I think you ought to tell. I’m your cousin” lily indicated.
“Ok fine...but Lily you promise me you won’t mention a word of this to Hugo or James?”
Rose then told Lily about everything. She told her on how Scorpius had asked her out and what happened today. When Rose finished, Lily got up and started pacing around the room. By the looks of her face she was angry.
“What a loathsome creature!” she howled. “How could he do that?”
“Lily it doesn’t matter anymore...I don’t care about him” Rose mumbled, but as she said this a tear dropped on her hand.
Lily didn’t seem to have heard her and kept blaring “That insufferable git! How could he do this to you on V-day?” Lily then stopped pacing and looked over at Rose. “We have to do something about this!”
“Lily just leave it...there’s nothing we can do!” Rose called out. But Lily had ignored her again and kept pacing around the room muttering things like “I trusted that bastard! I thought he wasn’t like all the other Malfoys” and “Your dad had a point Rose! You, Al and I were too stupid to not believe him!”. Lily was in fact right. Rose began to think that Malfoy was not like his father but she was wrong. She wished she had listened to her father. The first 4 years she had been against Malfoy but then in her fifth year, she became a downright git.
“Lily...are you going to Hogsmeade or not?” asked Rose.
“I’m not going if you don’t” was Lily’s answer.
“But Lily don’t stay cause of me I insi-” Lily cut in and said she didn’t mind and wanted to stay with her. After a while Lily stopped her pacing and came sat next to Rose. “Did you fancy him Rose?”
Rose was scared that she might ask this question. “Umm...I...I...well...I” was all Rose could get out.
Lily looked at her suspiciously and raised her eyebrows. “You did didn’t you?” Rose had no choice but to nod. “Well Rose I think you should just forget him. And by the way...who did you say he was snogging this morning?”
“Jonquil Zabini” answered Rose in vain.
“But he never showed a real interest in her. How could he possibly love her?” questioned Lily.
“I suppose he’s cheating on her too.” replied Rose, her eyes becoming puffy again. “Or maybe he loved her all this time. Anyway how are my cousins and friends?”
“They are perfect. James is finding it entertaining to keep on snogging Mel each minute” Lily said annoyed. ‘I don’t think they realised that you weren’t there...all Al kept on doing was staring at Jasmine”
“They are perfectly perfect indeed” Rose thought.
Scorpius wondered why he was outside in the Hogwarts grounds with Jonquil. He didn’t even know how he got here in the first place. And what was worse he just realised he had his arms wrapped around Jonquil’s waist. He quickly pulled his arms away.
“What on earth am I doing here?” he asked her waiting for an answer. She stared at him for few minutes and muttered silently to herself. He didn’t hear what she said but was sure he heard the words ‘himself’ and ‘again’.
“Well?” Scorpius snapped.
“Scorpy remember you told me you to come out here with you for a while to smell some fresh air” she said innocently. Scorpius didn’t remember saying that and since when did he ever ask Jonquil to accompany him for anything.
“Aren’t we supposed to be in the great hall having breakfast?” he said. She nodded. Without further ado, he turned around and walked to the doors, opened it and entered. Jonquil followed him. He saw students coming out of the great hall, forming a line to give Professor Longbottom the permission slips to Hogsmeade. “Great! Now I’ve missed breakfast!” he muttered to himself. He then went behind the long line looking at the very happy couples in front of him. He looked around to see where Rose was but didn’t find her anywhere. He saw her friends’ but not her. “Where is she?” he thought.
“Oh look at the happy couples” muttered Jonquil from behind him. “Don’t you think we were meant to be Scorpy?” Scorpius rolled his eyes and didn’t bother answering. He looked around for Derik and spotted him in the front of the line next to Ingrid Goyle. Girls kept on glancing at him and checking if he had a date. Some even waved to him and looked hopeful, but he just nodded back without any interest.
Finally it was his turn to hand in the permission slip to Professor Longbottom. Once the Professor gave him a nod, he walked out quickly before Jonquil could keep up. He looked around, hoping that Derik waited for him. He couldn’t find him.
“Oh there you are mate!” rang a voice from behind him. It was Derik. “Why weren’t you at breakfast?” He asked as they started walking on their way to Hogsmeade.
“That’s what I’m trying to figure out myself” Scorpius didn’t believe what Jonquil said. “All of a sudden I just realise that I was holding Jonquil right here at that spot.” Scorpius pointed at the place where they had been standing.
Derik looked at Scorpius thoughtfully. “So you didn’t know how you got there?”
“But how could you not know? And how come you were holding Jonquil? I mean you don’t even like her”
“That’s what I’m saying...I don’t know” muttered Scorpius. He turned around and saw Jonquil and Ingrid in deep tête-à-tête. They spotted him looking at them, he quickly turned away and they started giggling.
“They’re up to something...” Derik said suspiciously. “Anyway...don’t worry about them for now”
They continued walking until they arrived to Hogsmeade. Scorpius saw many couples together, and started to wish that one of those couples were Rose and him.
“I think we should go to The Three Broomsticks and get you some butterbeer or something since you haven’t eaten anything” declared Derik, braking Scorpius from his thoughts.
“Alright let’s go then...” Scorpius mumbled. “Hey umm...have you seen Rose anywhere?”
“Oh yea you just reminded me...nope haven’t seen her anywhere” Derik said in a concerned tone. “She wasn’t there even at breakfast...like you.”
Scorpius started to worry. Why wasn’t Rose here? He thought.
Rose had got up to wash her face from all the makeup that had been smudged from her crying. She then changed from her dress to her jeans and t-shirt. “How stupid I was!” she muttered to herself angrily. Tears stared to form in her eyes once again. “Just forget him! FORGET HIM!”
“Rose are you alright” asked Lily coming to see what was wrong with her. When Rose made to answer she continued “Hey... ah... how bout we go to Hagrid’s? You know... smell some fresh air.”
Rose wiped the non-stop tears out of her face and said “No Lily I don’t want to go. You can go if you want to.”
“Of come on Rose you’ve got to do something! Let’s just go...please” Lily begged.
“Ok fine...but if I burst out crying in front of him it’s not my fault...”
They then headed out to the Hogwarts grounds and ran to Hagrid’s hut. They knocked the door and the large half giant appeared, his beetle brown eyes looked at them warmly. He then grinned at the sight of them.
“Oh it’s yer lot...well then come in!” he welcomed cheerfully, opening the door so they could enter.
