“Back home again,” Lily smiled to herself. She had just stepped off the scarlet steam engine ‘The Hogwarts Express’, returning to Hogwarts for her final year, and what a year it would be!

“Lily! Don’t wander off now! We haven’t seen you all summer!” called Jenifer from just behind her, pulling Ally along by the sleeve of her robes. Jenifer and Ally had been Lily’s best friends from the very first day at Hogwarts. They were all so alike yet so different. Lily had dark red hair, with just a hint of brown, bright and bold green eyes, she was freckly and about average height for a seventeen year old. She was slim but had curves in the right places and she was rather happy with the way she looked, she worked hard to look good. Ally was more or less her total opposite. She had shimmering long blonde hair and brilliant blue eyes. She was slightly taller than Lily but didn’t have her curves, she was more flat with slight curves. Jenifer was sort of in the middle of the two. She was about the same height as Lily with raven black hair that just reached her shoulders. She was very place and had deep brown eyes and in some light they looked black. She definitely had bigger curves than Lily but hers weren’t only in the right places, although she wasn’t fat.

“Don’t worry I’m not going anywhere, I was just admiring the beautiful view,” Lily turned again to look up at the castle she called home before giving her friends a giant hug.

“You know, I could say the same thing, Lily Flower. The view is really beautiful, breathtakingly so.” A very familiar voice reached the girls and they turned to find James Potter smiling at Lily. Sirius Black and Remus Lupin came behind him, smiling at them all.

“Potter, we aren’t even in school yet! And I’m Head Girl this year so watch yourself!” Lily snapped, annoyed by his childish grin, “Oh that reminds me, do any of you know who the Head Boy is yet? It said in my letter that they are re-instating the Head’s rooms so I’d like to know who I’ll be sharing a common room and bathroom with. Oh what are you smirking at now Potter?!” She snapped again.

“Nothing my Lily Flower. It’s just I know who the Head Boy is.” James replied, laughing at the look on Sirius’ face. He looked like he had been slapped very hard, or as if he had heard news he couldn’t believe.

“Really? Who is it?” Lily asked, already nervous and the smirk that grew on James’ face didn’t make her feel any better.

“It’s me.” He laughed. Lily couldn’t believe her ears. That’s it! she thought to herself, Dumbledore has officially lost his marbles! Oh dear Merlin I can’t share a common room and bathroom with Potter!

“Earth to Lily! Come on, we’ll be late to the feast!” Jenifer said, gently shaking Lily.

“Yeah, I’m starving!” Sirius added from behind them.

“Big surprise there Black!” Ally laughed, leading the way to the Great Hall.

Lily blinked a few times and began to walk. This is going to be one interesting year!

Sitting down at the Gryffindor table, Lily looked around and took in the familiar sight. She loved the Great Hall, especially the ceiling. It was bewitched to look like the sky outside and it had always fascinated her. After a few moments of gazing at the stars Lily realised someone was sitting next to her, looking straight at her infact! James had chosen to sit right next to her and was smiling to himself, God she’s beautiful! She just gets prettier every time I see her.She returned from her own little world and looked him in the eye. She was just about to say something when Dumbledore stood to give his first speech of the evening. She smiled at James and turned to face Dumbledore. Did Lily Evans just smile at me? This has turned out to be a fabulous day! Ahh, there’s hope yet! James thought to himself. He smiled and began to listen to Dumbledore, who was going over the rules that the Marauders still didn’t obey.

Did I just smile at James Potter? Dear Merlin I did! I hope he doesn’t get the wrong impression. Hold on, what impression would I be giving him?

“Lily flower, would you pass the gravy?” He asked, smiling sweetly at her. She felt herself turning red and quickly turned away. She waited until her hot flush had passed before answering.

“Yeah, here you go James.” She passed it over with a small smile that she couldn’t hold in, try as she might. On the opposite side of the table Sirius was choking on a mouthful of chicken.

“Are my ears playing tricks on me or did Lily Evans just call James Potter…James?!” He gasped, staring from Lily to James. James laughed and handed him a goblet of pumpkin juice.

“Calm down Sirius mate, she only said my name! It wasn’t a marriage proposal!” He laughed, turning to look at Lily. He caught her eye and winked, smiling his trademark Potter grin. She smiled and turned to watch Sirius pretend to have a heart attack at her casual behaviour.

As everyone finished eating Dumbledore stood up once more.

“Now that you are all fed and watered I think it an excellent idea for you to trot off to bed. Prefects please show the first years the way to each House Dorm and can the new Head Boy and Girl please come to my office for a short meeting in say, ten minutes? Sweet dreams to you all and welcome back!” Dumbledore smiled around the Hall and sat back down, waiting for the waves of students to die down before he went to his office.
Lily continued to argue with herself for the rest of Dumbledore’s speech, one voice said Maybe you do like him after all. He is acting slightly more mature. Maybe you should say yes if he asks you again, he’s rather cute too! but the other voice was also arguing hotly, Don’t be silly, this is James Potter. I bet he’s still the same annoying, arrogant toe-rag I have turned down for the last six years. As for him being cute, that is an understatement! Merlin’s pants! Did I really just think that?! It wasn’t until James tapped her on the shoulder that she came crashing back to reality.
“Come on then Lily, let’s get going.” James said, standing and offering Lily his hand. She ignored it and turned to Jenifer and Ally.

“I’ll see you two tomorrow! And you three as well I suppose,” she added as an after thought to Remus, Sirius and Peter. She turned and lead the way out of the Hall.

Even though he had still been seated when they had left, Dumbledore still beat them to his office.

“Enter,” said a calm voice as they knocked on the door. They sat in front of his giant desk as he sat behind it, smiling pleasantly and twiddling his thumbs.

“Ahh, Mr. Potter, Miss. Evans, such a pleasure to have you as the Head’s this year. Now, this year we have decided to re-instate the Head’s Rooms, but of course, you already know that from your letters. The room is on the fifth floor and the password is Carrot Sticks. I do believe you know where the room is exactly Mr. Potter. Yes, that’s right I do know about that, but I do not wish to know why you were discovered there at 2 o’clock in the morning with rather untidy clothing. In my mind you were simply playing chess with the Head Girl, Miss. Ravenwood, and happened to lose track of time.” Dumbledore looked at James from over the top of his half-moon glasses and James had gone a brilliant shade of red. Lily had to bite her lip to keep from laughing and it seemed Dumbledore found James’ embarrassment rather amusing too.

“Now, off to bed with you. It has been a long day and I’m sure you what to be up bright and early for your lessons tomorrow!” He beamed pleasantly at them as they stood, bid him goodnight and left. As soon as they reached the bottom of the moving staircase Lily rounded on James.

“So, what were you doing in the Head’s Room?” She asked, faking confusion.

James started to blush again but not quite as much as he had just moments ago.

“Well, you know, Chelsea was really pretty and she said she needed help with her Transfiguration. Then you know, one thing lead to another.” He said rather embarrassed to be telling Lily that. Trying to hide a strange feeling that had just come over her she quizzed him,

“Wasn’t she going out with Dye Smith, the Head Boy, last year?” James looked at her sheepishly.

“Yeah, but unfortunately, I didn’t know that. That’s how I got caught outside there at 2 in the morning. He kicked me out when he found us.” Lily laughed at that part. Typical James. Hold on, what am I thinking now? Typical James? How would I know what Typical James was!? She shook her head and looked at James.

“ Well, come on then Potter. Lead the way.” She mumbled and pushed him in front of her. He smiled at the return of his second name and showed her the way.

“Carrot Sticks,” He said as he turned the handle of a large mahogany door and pushed it open.

Lily was awestruck. The Common Room was beautiful. It had cream walls and a deep gold carpet. It had cherry wood furniture so they were a deep, dark red colour. There was a big fireplace against the wall and a big wide window opposite it. There were just two doors leading off, one said Head Boy on a golden plaque in swirly black writing and the other read Head Girl. James laughed and sat down in front of the fire as Lily wandered over to her room. The walls were cream and the carpet was too but she had black furniture and blood red sheets on her bed. Her wardrobe could have fit in a thousands sets of robes and still have room for her to climb inside. A door stood to here right so se opened it. The bathroom was beautiful too! The white walls and tiled floor and the giant bath that sunk into the ground in the middle, surrounded by golden taps, all with different bubbles and foam and temperatures of water coming out. She walked back into the Common Room smiling and saw James, still in front of the fire, waiting for her.

“You seem to like it in here Lily Flower, What do you think of your room?” he asked, gesturing to the door behind her.

“It beautiful! And the bathroom is amazing too! Can I see your room?” She gushed then went red as she realised what she had asked. James just laughed at her and stood to show her his own room. She followed him in shyly and looked around. It was almost identical to her own with the exception of light blue walls and white sheets on his bed. She gazed as the thick fluffy quilt on his bed and it looked so tempting. She rushed over and jumped on it, sliding into the middle and then turning to smile at James. He stood by the door, rather surprised at her actions and then quickly walked over and sat on the end.

“I’m guessing you like my bed then!” He laughed and even Lily giggled.

“Not in that way but I was thinking. We’ll be spending a lot more time together, what with sharing these rooms and being Head Boy and Girl so I think we should make the effort to get along. It will make the year go easier and you know it, James.” She smiled as she said his name and so did he.

“Sounds like a smart plan to me Lily flower but unless you’re planning to sleep in here, which I wouldn’t mind in the slightest, you’d better be off to bed. Dumbledore was right, it has been a long day.” He yawned at that moment and ruffled his hair. He looks so cute when he ruffles his hair, no wait! No he doesn’t! Damn it Lily what has gotten into you! She jumped up from the bed and smiled as she passed through to her own room.

“Night…James,” She laughed closing her bedroom door.

“Night my Lily Flower,” James sighed and closed his own. This year is going to be the best, I know it is! was the last thing he thought to himself as he drifted off to sleep.
