Gryffindor versus Slytherin: Potter versus MalfoyTension was everywhere in the school this week. The questions Harry had been pondering over were washed from his mind as he trained the team extra hard before their most anticipating match against Slytherin.
During their last practice before the match, Harry was having a few difficulties with the team; Ron was having his usual lack of confidence feat and missed nearly all of the shots thrown at him. Demelza and Ginny were having an argument about Ron , as Demelza accused him of being a lousy Keeper. Jimmy Peakes, their fourth-year beater, hit an oncoming bludger so hard it knocked Dean Thomas clean off his broom that badly, he was carried off to the Hospital Wing and eventually, due to The amount of effort they were forced to put in, Richie Coote, the other Beater, flew back to the ground with difficulty, threw up and then fainted.
Unluckily for them, the Slytherins - a.k.a Malfoy and his cronies - had sat in stands to watch the practice. They cheered when Ron missed the Quaffle, booed when the Beaters missed the Chasers and now were rolling around in their seats at the state the Gryffindor team were in.
Harry had had enough.
Seething and positively shaking with anger, he mounted his broom unsteadily, flew as far away from the Slytherins as he could, so that he couldn't even hear the tumultuous laughter of them. Then with all the speed his Firebolt could muster, he sped, screaming with rage, into the unsuspecting Slytherin stands.
Pansy and Malfoy were both screaming, Pansy out of fear and Malfoy out of anger, as Harry told them to 'piss off back to their rabbit-holes' and flew back to the ground, where the remainder of the team where applauding and cheering.
'That was brilliant, Harry,' Ginny exclaimed, as she gave him a kiss on the cheek, 'I've never seen Malfoy looking more ferocious in my life, and tomorrow I'm gonna take the complete piss out of Parkinson, I mean did you see her face!'
'Yeah,' Ron put in, 'There's no way they'd dare to mess with us at the match.
Even Zabini and Goyle were shitting themselves!'
The team burst out laughing, before Harry waved them down and said, 'Right everyone. Dean and Ritchie may not be feeling up to it, but I reckon we should have five more minutes of Practice. It feels like this little stunt has put a new heart into us and - AAAAAAAAAAAAAGGGH!!!!!!!!'
Harry felt pain, unendurable pain, like he had never had before, and he was writhing and screaming on the ground as if he was being stabbed with a thousand knives, over and over again. Suddenly it stopped, and Harry heard someone walking towards him, laughing.
'That ought to teach you some manners, Potter. Never mess with Slytherins, otherwise you'll end up like your filthy Mudblood mother.'
Harry looked up now, the pain fading fast, and saw the pale, pointed appearance of Malfoy, looming in the darkness, with a triumphant look on his face. Harry's anger intensified, as he remembered the spell Voldemort used on him in the Graveyard, three years ago. He got up and looked Malfoy in the face. Malfoy's smirk seemed to have faded a little. Even though Harry could hear spells being shot, he only paid attention to Malfoy. It was the only thing he cared about right now.
'There is a few reasons why I never chose to be in Slytherin,' he began angrily, 'One was because my parents' murderer was in that house, two, my worst enemy was in that house, but my main reason was because if I stayed there for seven years, I'd end up just like you.' Harry spat every word at Malfoy. ' Arrogant, stupid and a bloody COWARD!'With all of his might, he punched Malfoy in the stomach, winding him and swung his right hand forwards towards Malfoy's nose, where there was a sickening crack and blood spurted from it. Even though his hand was aching, Harry shoved his mortal but defeated enemy to the ground, and kicked him in the ribs.
'See, Malfoy,' Harry sneered, ' Never mess with Gryffindors. Or you'll end up like you're foul parents. Rotting away in Azkaban. It's no more than you all deserve.
Malfoy whimpered and groaned on the ground, rolling in agony and started to cry.
Harry came back to the real world, where fighting was going on between the rest of the Slytherins and the Gryffindors, in which he raced to join. Demelza was knocked out cold. The rest weren't looking good either. Harry shot every spell he could think of at each of the Slytherins in turn. He shot a stunning spell at Nott, which hit directly at his chest, he shot a gormless Goyle with Levicorpus, so he was pulled off his feet, he shot Blaise Zabini with the leg locker curse, so he fell forwards onto the grass and lastly he shot Pansy Parkinson with a powerful Confundus charm and she collapsed.
He looked at the others and saw something which made his heart rise to his throat: Ginny was hurt. Ron was sitting next to her while Peakes succeeded in picking up Demelza and carted her off to the Hospital Wing. Harry rushed over to Ginny and Ron staring at them, his face pale and clammy.
'What happened,' he asked Ron.
'That little scumbag Zabini, tortured her with the Cruciatus curse. She's badly hurt.'
'Right, let's get them-'
Suddenly there was a scream. Harry turned round and saw none other than Hermione, standing with a fuming Professor McGonagall, staring around at the sight of all the Slytherins.
'What happened!' McGonagall shrieked. 'What on earth is the meaning of this Potter?'
Harry left Ginny and Ron and told McGonagall everything that had happened. He felt there was no use in lieing to her, so he told the absolute truth. When he finished, Hermione looked even more shocked and McGonagall was dumbstruck.
'What! Unforgiveable Curses, in my school. I'm shocked and ashamed. You lot were obviously no better. This is extremely serious. I will revive all of the Slytherins and put them to rights and if you could calm Miss Ginevra for me. Then I want you all in my office where you will receive your punishments.
Harry, Ron, Hermione, the rest of the Gryffindors and the Slytherins were in the Headmistress' office, waiting on her verdict. All of them were extremely nervous, but none were more than Harry and Malfoy. They had been the cause of this destruction, just because they were in different houses they had started an extremely silly fight. Both were filled with remorse and wished it had never happened.
McGonagall returned into the room swiftly, with a disgusted look on her face.
'Right,' she began, 'Myself and Professor Slughorn have decided that 100 points should be taken from both Gryffindor and Slytherin.'
Harry and Malfoy exchanged glances, and then looked away again. They both felt they deserved what they got.
'And also it is our decision that Mr Potter and Mr Malfoy should be punished with 2 weeks detention. The rest of you are let off. The both of you will be taking detentions together with me and every day we will be discussing why we should be having House Unity. Lines may come up but that all depends.
'Since the students of Slytherin and Gryffindor are constantly at each others throats, we are holding special weekend classes that all of the students from those two houses will take. No exceptions. I hope you all understand the seriousness of what you have done. These are the terms on which you must face.
'Miss Granger, you may now return to your common room. The rest of you will shake hands with each other and by doing so you are all agreeing to become friends or at least civil to each other. Go on!'
The Gryffindors looked to Harry and the Slytherins looked to Malfoy. None would move unless they were willing to. Harry felt so ashamed of himself that he stood up and faced Malfoy with his hand out. Malfoy hesitated a little, but then he remembered what pain he put his friends through and thought he should do it for them. He stood up and shook Harry's hand for a few seconds and watched as the others copied their actions. Harry and Malfoy felt a little more at ease now and decided that a little House Unity at Hogwarts school could not do them any harm, at all.
