Author's Note: This is the first challenge that I've responded to. I hope it's good. I had fun writing it, either way. Hope you like it.
In Response to Quailsrock23’s Obsession Challenge
What do you think of when you look at the color blue? Do you see any depth, meaning, anything? Does it make you feel anything? Does it make you think of anything that you perhaps remember from your early childhood?
I’ll tell you how I see, think, feel, and remember when I see this color. It’s my favorite color, by the way. Bet you didn’t know that.
I see the color blue and it immediately sucks me in. It’s like I’m falling into a whole other dimension. What I see in this dimension is blue everywhere and everything is cubic with a water reflection all around me, above me, and below me. I almost feel like I’m drowning at first, but then I quickly get over it. It’s addicting, the feeling that overcomes as I see all this.
I feel a wave of emotions come over me in an instant. Its feels almost like a wave crashing down on me with memories. I feel happy, content, and restless all at once. Sometimes I even feel sad when I’m in a bad mood. When I surface, I usual have a smile reaching up to my eyes on my face. It’s all overwhelming, but exhilarating at the same time.
I start remember as flashes of my life materialize before my eyes. I can remember perfectly how I felt the day I received my Hogwarts letter. My parents have told me stories of when they attended Hogwarts and both my older brothers would act like Hogwarts was the best school ever. Being young and naïve, I would eat up everything any of them told me with stars in my blue eyes and a wide, childish grin on my small face. I remember arriving at Hogwarts and thinking that they were all right about it. Hogwarts truly is magical.
I can remember when I first met my friends on the first train to Hogwarts. We were all laughing and talking, just having a grand time. I can remember all of us riding in the boats across the black lake on that first night at Hogwarts. All the lights shown from the windows of the castle were reflecting on all of our faces and in the surface of the water. I can still feel the light on my face as I think of this.
I remember my first serious crush. How I ended up with a crushed heart. Fresh tears sprung to my eyes as waves crash down around me. I remember the heartache like it was yesterday. How he ripped my heart out without any regards to my feelings.
It still hurts to think about it. He made me open my eyes to the way some guys, like him, treat girls. There are some nice guys out there, but it seemed that I attract the duds.
And then I remember how after a few years, the same guy that broke my heart ended up being my boyfriend. I find it kind of funny. It happened the summer before sixth year. We started writing letters back and forth to one another. When we met up on the train back to school, we both decided to give it another shot.
I’m glad that I did give him another chance. He hasn’t done anything other than prove that he really cares about me.
Just a few days ago, we were sitting outside next to the lake just talking and enjoying one another’s company. I can remember it perfectly. I smile to myself as I remember the memory.
I was leaning back against Sirius’s chest as I looked out across the lake. I could feel is hand playing with my curly blond hair. He cleared his throat a bit to draw me out of my daydreaming. I turn around to look into his sparkling grey eyes, my blue eyes twinkling just as much as his eyes were. “What?” I asked him with an amused expression on my face.
“Oh, nothing,” he replied with his trademark grin and the mischievous glint in his grey eyes.
I roll my blue eyes before speaking. “I know you have something to say, Sirius. Just spit it out.”
“It isn’t really important,” said Sirius. “I was just thinking about how much I really like and care about you, Sam.”
“I really like you, too,” I replied back to him with a warm smile.
He put the hand that wasn’t playing with my hair on my cheek as he leaned in to kiss me full on the mouth. I kiss him back as I wrap my arms around his neck. We pull away after half a minute and engage into another conversation that I can’t quite remember because it wasn’t important.
***END OF FLASHBACK***
I smile to myself as I come back to reality. I am sitting in the Gryffindor common with my friends. I look over to where Sirius is sitting with his three friends at a table in the corner.
He looks up and notices me looking at him. He smiles over at me and after I smile back, he turns back to his friends and I turn back to mine.
Anyway, that’s the effects the color blue has on me. It’s pretty amazing how one simple color can cause all these emotions and feelings to churn inside of you, but it can if you just open your heart and are willing to be open with it.
