AN:  I don't own Harry Potter or Hey Jude.  Obviously.

Hey, Jude, don't make it bad
Take a sad song and make it better
Remember to let her into your heart
Then you can start to make it better

The battle was over for the wizarding world.

It was not for Harry Potter.

A battle was still raging in his heart, and he knew it would for the rest of his life. People he had loved and cared for were dead because of him. That fact rested heavily on his soul as if a ton of rocks were pressing down on him from above. He knew no one would blame him, but that didn’t stop him from blaming himself.

On top of everything, he now had a child to raise. Little Teddy Lupin didn’t have anything anymore, and the poor kid didn’t even realize it. He was just a baby and now, he’d never know his parents, as good as they were. Harry could never be as good as them; he couldn’t even compare and he knew it. He also knew he couldn’t do it alone.

Mr. and Mrs. Weasley would help he knew, but he couldn’t ask them, not now. Not after their son and George’s twin had just died. Harry cursed himself once more as he stood in front of the remains that were once Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. If he had just gone to Voldemort immediately none of this destruction, this loss would not be here in front of him now.

He couldn't help but to think of himself even at that moment. How would he carry on with his life? He couldn’t even be glad the prophecy had been fulfilled in his favor. He almost wished he were dead.

But not quite.

There was one thing that he still had to live for. Ginny.

Ginny, he whispered softly without even realizing it. Her name flowed off his tongue like water and he let himself savor the feel of it. He hadn’t seen her in months since the battle had ended. In fact, he hadn’t seen anyone in the same amount of time besides Hermione who had pleaded with him to come visit with everyone. Harry had seen the worry in her eyes and had chosen to ignore it. What did she know of pain anyway? She did not have the weight of the world bearing down on her.

Hey, Jude, don't be afraid
You were made to go out and get her
The minute you let her under your skin
Then you begin to make it better.

He should go to her, he knew. For the first time, he felt a little something in his heart that he knew could not be mistaken for anything other than love. The pain of death was still there, unyielding and constant. He supposed it would remain until his own body was lowered into the ground. The people that had lost their lives where not the sort you forgot quickly, if ever.

Harry wondered if she was concerned for him. If she cried for him as he did every night for those that were lost. Right now, he knew he might as well be dead for all the comfort he was giving her, and he knew it was cruel. He couldn’t bring himself to face her just yet.

But when he did, he knew just what he’d say. He’d tell her he was proud of her for fighting but to never do it again and that he missed her but just couldn’t bear to be near her just yet. He knew it would make him too happy, and he didn’t think he deserved that just yet. Ginny would tell him he was being stupid, which he supposed he was, and she’d say she missed him too much to let him go away again. And he wouldn’t if she said that. That was the very reason he refused to see her.

And any time you feel the pain, hey, Jude, refrain
Don't carry the world upon your shoulders
Well don't you know that its a fool who plays it cool
By making his world a little colder

Today though he felt better than he had in months. Today he considered going to visit her and getting his life back. It wasn’t fair that this had happened to him at all in the first place, but it wasn’t fair to let his friends suffer for it either. Harry knew he was stubborn, but he could barely realize it through his grief. He placed a bouquet of roses at the base of the castle and stared at its beauty for a moment. He knew it was lingering for they would fade in a few days once the cold placed a hand on them. Now though, they were perfect.

He whispered two words; his saving grace.

“I’m sorry.” The tears began rolling down his face.

Hey, Jude! Don't let her down
You have found her, now go and get her
Remember, to let her into your heart
Then you can start to make it better.

Once his tears had slowed, and he could see once again he gazed emptily at the broken rocks that had once built his sanctuary. He knew he would no longer find peace here. His sanctuary would be found elsewhere, and he thought he knew exactly where.

He Disapparated to the only place he could call home anymore. He knew as he approached it his heart was healing bit by bit and maybe, just maybe, by the time he reached the front door, he’d be okay once again. The people inside would be glad to see him, and he’d be just as happy to see them in return. Could it last though? It was better than sitting around thinking of nothing but death. He had to stop this, and being here was the only way.

Being with her was the only way.

Before she even opened the door, he knew it would be her. As he gazed at her beautiful face, he realized he was holding his breath. He let it out slowly, and her eyes examined him thoroughly, carefully. He felt ashamed as she looked at him for he saw the hurt in her deep brown eyes because he knew it was because of him. He cursed himself once again for hurting something he loved. When would it stop?

So let it out and let it in, hey, Jude, begin
You're waiting for someone to perform with
And don't you know that it's just you, hey, Jude,
You'll do, the movement you need is on your shoulder

“Don’t ever leave me again,” she said determinedly. A single pearly tear rolled down her smooth cheek. Harry reached out to wipe it away but stopped short. Who was he to comfort her now?

He knew conversation wouldn’t do when she was taking his breath away. He tilted his face down so that his forehead met hers. He looked into her eyes and what he saw there surprised him. Forgiveness.

“Still got that silver lining?” he asked remembering their very last conversation before he’d gone away to find the Horcruxes. She nodded slightly. He kissed her slowly before he even realized he was doing it. He put everything into that kiss. He put his sorrow, his pain, his love into it, and he knew she felt it, but he wasn’t sorry. This is what they needed to survive. This is what they needed to make it better.

So finally, carefully, Harry let her into his heart.

Hey, Jude, don't make it bad
Take a sad song and make it better
Remember to let her into your heart
Then you can start to make it better
