Over the next week Hermione at times actually thought that she was dating Freddy. The plan seemed to work well. Both Rafael and Draco faked that they where talking to someone else when she and Freddy walked pass, but she saw them staring at her.
“Its working,” said Hermione squealing one day.
“I agree that it is going very well,” Freddy ruffled his hair. “I don’t know what else to do to make it more believable. Unless…”
Hermione noticed the wild look in his eye and his teeth going into a smile. Then she saw his fangs appear.
“No, I am not going to have sex with you in the hall. I am also not going to get bit by you,” said Hermione with a fierce tone of voice.
“Come on totally believable”
“Come on you’re a vampire and no one knows it. It will totally blow your cover”
Freddy was looking at her desk and all the books on it. Then he came upon an old looking diary. It looked like it was burnt at one point and the pages yellow with age. There was a piece of ribbon on a page and Freddy opened the old dairy.
Freddy read a section of the diary and felt his insides get cold. He wondered where Hermione had gotten this. He looked around to Hermione and held the diary up so she could see it.
“It was from an old family member from a long time ago. I think she was my great-great grandmother or something,” said Hermione.
She saw how uneasy Freddy was. She went next to him and put her hand on his shoulder. She saw him flinch at her touch.
“Freddy is something wrong?” asked Hermione.
“No, love. Nothing,” said Freddy with a lump in his throat.
Hermione looked at him, but said nothing. She nodded and went back to sit on her bed. She bit her lip in concentration to find out what was wrong with him. He had never acted so strange.
Then with a blink of the eye his mood changed. Now he looked excited and anxious. Hermione knew when he acted like this that he had something planned or was going to give her something. The last thing he did was had a romantic dinner in the Common Room.
“What are you planning?” asked Hermione.
“Why would I be planning something?” said Freddy as he put the diary down.
He walked over to the bed and sat down next to Hermione. He put his arm around Hermione’s shoulders and gently kissed her cheek. The coldness made her jump. She had never gotten used to Freddy always being so cold even though he looked mortal.
“I don’t have anything planned,” said Freddy as he reached into his jacket pocket.
Hermione acted as though she didn’t see him pull out a small silver box with a red bow on top. He told her to close her eyes and she covered them with her hands like a child going to receive a big present on Christmas morning.
“I know you are going to leave for Christmas so I wanted to give this to you know,” said Freddy as he went behind Hermione.
Hermione felt a chain go down her skin. She heard him clasp the necklace on her. Without opening her eyes she ran her hand over the necklace he gave her. It was shaped as a heart. When she opened her eyes she saw that it was a golden locket. She looked inside it and smiled. It was a picture of them together laughing and him playing the guitar.
“I know that we aren’t really going out, but I felt like I should give you this," said Freddy running his fingers threw his hair.
“Who said we weren’t?” asked Hermione looking at him.
Freddy smiled. He had liked Hermione from the moment he laid eyes on her. He had never felt this way about any girl he had gone out with. He liked the way she laughs when he made her laugh. He loved the way she put her head on her shoulder when they were talking together late at night.
“What about Abby?” asked Freddy?
“She is coming home with me when we leave for Christmas,” said Hermione with a sigh. “I feel guilty leaving you here all by yourself”
“Don’t worry, you shouldn’t worry. Nothing is going to happen. I will probably stay in this room for the week 'til you come back. I might even have a bit of fun bothering you’re ex Draco Malfoy"
Hermione laughed. She knew he wasn’t kidding. It was nice having someone here for her to talk to, someone to make her laugh. Then she heard a knock at the door.
“Who is it?” called Hermione.
“It’s Abby. Mione the train is going to leave in five minutes,” said Abby.
Hermione looked at the clock and her sister was right. Hermione kissed Freddy and ran out of the room.
Freddy smiled to himself. He put his hands on the back of his head and lay back on Hermione’s bed. Freddy could smell the heavenly scent of Hermione’s strawberry and vanilla shampoo.
“I got a girlfriend. A pretty, pretty girlfriend,” said Freddy under his breath.
