We all know of the rich and famous Malfoy family, yes? Well, they are now one family member shorter. And apparently, able to do as they wish.
Lucius Malfoy was captures yesterday, in a misled ‘Deatheater’ raid. He was given a trial two hours later and sentenced to the Dementors kiss.
With Mr. Malfoys death came Young Draco Malfoys freedom. The instant his fathers life left him, the 10 year long Imperius Curse placed on him, was lifted.
“I’m not upset much. He wasn’t much of a Father to me, never there for me.” says young Malfoy, who is going in to his 7th year at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry.
Hermione Granger sighed and placed the Daily Prophet on her nightstand. ‘I suppose it makes sense that he was under Imperius, I always thought that no one could normally be that evil…’ Her mind wandered to her Blonde school mate. ‘It must be hard losing a parent. I can’t imagine losing Mum or Dad.’
Her thoughts were interrupted by a tapping on her window. Pig sat on her window waiting patiently to be let in. She crossed her room and opened the window to let Rons’ tiny grey owl inside. Pig held out his leg and Hermione removed the rolled up parchment from his leg.
Harry and I were wondering if you would like to spend the remainder of break with us at the burrow? let us know so dad can set up the floo network.
She quickly scrawled that she would love to come tomorrow around noon and began packing her trunk for Hogwarts.
‘Plunk’ Hermione was plopped down on the Weasleys living room floor. A scream and mass of red hair from Ginny Weasley followed.
“Hermione! Oh, its been so long! We have SO much to catch up on! You look great. What happened for the change?” Ginny said looking excitedly at Hermione. Behind her Ron, Fred, George, and Molly Weasley walked in to the living room.
Hermione laughed. “My cousin spent a few weeks with us and decided I needed a change.”
“Hermione dear, how was your summer?”
“Good so far Mrs. Weasley,” Hermione replied, smiling.
“Would you like to try some of our products ‘Mione?” Fred and George asked, innocent smiles plastered to their identical faces. Hermione laughed and politely declined. She got up and followed Ron to his room, where Harry was just waking up.
“So did you read yesterdays Daily Prophet?” The boys shook their heads, no.
Hermione sighed. “Apparently, Lucius was given the Kiss. And Draco has been under Imperius for the last 7 years, and intends to show everyone the ‘real him’ this year at Hogwarts.” The boys looked at eachother.
“That is IF McGonagall lets him into Hogwarts this year.” Harry pointed out.
“Oh I’m sure she will, well after this paper she will I’m sure.” she replied. She sighed and sat on the bed next to Harry. “but who knows… maybe he was telling the truth.”
“LETTERS!” Mrs. Weasley yelled from downstairs. It was 5 days since Hermione arrived. They had had plenty of time to talk over the upcoming year, the last year they would spend at Hogwarts.
Harry, Ron, Hermione and Ginny came downstairs and picked up their letters. Hermione let out a squeal.
“I GOT HEAD GIRL!!!” She yelled with excitement. Everyone congratulated her and began giving her ideas on what to do for this year.
“Well, when everyone has eaten and is dressed, we can go to Diagon Alley to get all your school things ok?” Mrs. Weasley told them all. They agree and tramped back upstairs to get ready for the day ahead.
“Can you believe that we’re starting our last day in less than 2 weeks?” Hermione asked Harry and Ron. They both shook their heads and went back to their ice cream.
“Well, you guys are lucky… I’ve still got 2 years.” Ginny grumbled. Harry smiled at her.
“It’s ok Gin, it’s not that bad.” he kissed her on the cheek and went to return his bowl with Ron.
“Boys,” sighed Hermione and Ginny. Mrs. Weasley laughed. They all picked up their books and school things and walked back to the leaky cauldron to floo back home.
Hermione sighed as she looked out the window. The Hogwarts express was pulling out of Kings Cross Station for the last time for her. The compartment door opened, Hermione oblivious to it.
Draco Malfoy stood in Kings Cross station infront of the Hogwarts express for what felt like the thousandth time. ‘God, I’m glad this is the last year.’ he thought. Bidding his mother farewell, Draco picked up his trunk and headed towards the heads compartment.
Opening the door he found a 7th year girl, staring out the window. She had short, straight brown hair, and was wearing a light blue halter top and a short black skirt with knee high boots. He leaned against the door and it hit the side of the compartment, causing the girl to look up.
“Hello, Malfoy” said Hermione.
“Granger?” He asked shocked, that he thought she looked quite good.
“Who else would I be?” she asked sarcastically. Draco sighed and realized that this year would be like all the others. He shook his head and placed his trunk in the overhead bin. Sitting down he pulled a book out of his robe pocket. Hermione glanced at the cover. ‘Finding Your Place In Magick’s Career World’ Hermione smiled. she had read that book over the summer and still had no idea what she wanted as a job.
“I’m sorry,” she apologized. Draco looked up surprised.
“For what?” He raised an eyebrow, looking at her.
“For being rude, I read the Prophet a while ago. It must have been hard, losing your father I mean, and being under imperius for 7 years.”
“Imperius, yes. Father, no,” Draco explained. “He was never much of a parent to me.” She nodded.
“Listen, I’m sorry for all the shit I’ve put you 3 through in the past 6 years. I’d quite like to start over this year. Also, since were the heads, we’re going to be spending quite a bit of time together this year, so we might as well get a long somewhat.” He held out his hand. “So truce? In, a manner of speaking…” Hermione looked at his hand and back to his face, he seemed sincere. She took his hand and shook it.
“Agreed… Draco.” ‘This is going to be an interesting year.’ thought Hermione, as Draco went back to reading his book.
