David Weasley sat in his compartment on the Hogwarts Express, waiting for the train to depart. He would be in his third year at Hogwarts. He had two older sisters, Veronica, who was fifteen and in her fifth year, and Victorie, who was seventeen and in her seventh year.
David looked out the window, and saw that Victoire was outside pressed against a pillar, and kissing her boyfriend, Teddy Lupin. Teddy was nineteen and had graduated from Hogwarts two years ago. Today his hair was sandy blonde, and he could see his sister’s hand running through it.
David looked up at the sound of the compartment door opening and saw his best friend had come in. Alyssa Weedle had been his best friend ever since his first train ride on the Hogwarts Express three years ago. He smiled at her before looking back out the window, just as Victoire pulled her mouth away from Teddy’s.
He turned back to Alyssa, and decided to be a good person and help her with her trunk. David got up walked the few amount of steps to Alyssa and her trunk and lifted it into the luggage rack. She gaped at him for a moment before speaking.
“You did a good deed!” Alyssa said in mock shocked tones.
“I know it surprised me, too.” David reassured her.
Alyssa smiled at his comment as they sat down. She had long brown hair, which many girls were jealous of. Her blue eyes always seemed to have a bit of a sparkle to them, especially when she smiled.
“So, how was your summer?” She asked after a long pause.
“Fine.” David said simply.
“Fine? One syllable? That’s all I get?!” Alyssa asked faking a shocked face.
“Ok, really fine. That’s three syllables, keep the change.” He said, and Alyssa laughed.
“Anything exciting happen?” She pressed, and at his shrug, she added, “Did you have a good time spying on your sisters?”
“Yeah, I caught Victoire making out with Teddy several times.” He explained turning his head to look out the window as the train began to move.
He stuck his head out the train window, and looked down the train. He saw Victoire was also sticking her head out the window, and Teddy was running alongside the train trying to yell something to Victoire, something she couldn’t hear. He watched Teddy run trying to find out what he was saying, but than the train rounded the corner. David closed the window and sat back down across from Alyssa.
“Spying on one of your sisters?” Alyssa asked smirking.
“Victoire, Teddy was trying to tell her something, but she couldn’t hear him, and neither could I for that matter.” David explained, and Alyssa nodded, something she stopped doing quickly when she saw who was walking by the compartment.
Natalie Richies was walking by smiling at David who grinned back stupidly. He had liked Natalie since their first year, and since than Alyssa always seemed to get sulky around her for reasons unknown to David.
“Alyssa? Alyssa? Lyssie!” David said, waving his hand in front of her face in an effort to bring her back to earth.
“Huh?” Alyssa said, coming back to reality.
“Are you ok?” He asked.
“Yeah, I think I might have had too much pie last night, nothing to worry about.” She said in an effort to cover up her actions.
“Yeah, how great is pie?!” David said enthusiastically, displaying his love of pie, “I mean who doesn’t love pie?”
“I don’t know crazy people. Like Natalie.” Alyssa suggested laughing.
“Not cool.” David said throwing a piece of candy he had just found in his pocket at her.
“All I’m saying is I don’t know what you see in her.” Alyssa explained, sounding aghast.
“What do you mean?” He asked sounding as if he thought it might be easier if he listed off the things he didn’t like about her.
“She’s a hoer.” She said exasperatedly, “Anyone with a first years education know that.”
“She is not, Alyssa, you’re just jealous.” David said smirking.
“Jealous?! You think I’m jealous of her sluttish ways?!” Alyssa said sounding offended.
“Yes, I do.” David said simply, “You’re jealous that she’s better looking than you!”
Alyssa got up and smacked David as hard as she could across the face before sprinting out of the compartment. David sat there and watched her go, rubbing his cheek as she did. What had he done? He thought stupidly. He decided he shouldn’t have called her jealous, and went to go find her twenty minutes later, when the bruise had appeared.
David was surprised when he found Alyssa sitting in the hallway right outside the compartment.
“Took you long enough!” Alyssa spat, when David knelt down next to her.
“I shouldn’t have said you were jealous, I’m sorry.” He said.
“You should be.” She responded sounding as if she was fighting back tears.
The two walked back into the compartment, and sat in silence for awhile. It seemed that the fight had scared David out of speaking as he stared out the window at the country side. David stared out the window for what seemed like hours, he finally tore his eyes away from it and looked at Alyssa.
He had thought that she too was looking out the window, but found she wasn’t looking out the window but at him. Alyssa quickly looked away and out the window when David saw this, blushing slightly. David could never understand why she would act like that sometimes. He felt so clueless whenever he would ask someone why she did and they responded, ‘You’re kidding, right?’
Darkness descended, and the two changed into their robes. They still had hardly spoken since David had apologized. Alyssa seemed to have taken his words straight to heart. He continued to catch hurt looks from behind her brown hair.
The train finally arrived at the Hogsmeade station, and the two got off of the train. As they got into their thestrall drawn carriage David spotted Victorie boarding a carriage with her friends, and Veronica getting into another not far from her sister.
David and Alyssa sat in their carriage in silence for a few moments before David finally broke it.
“I’m still sorry about what I said.” David said, trying to make eye contact with his best friend, who still said nothing, “Come on, Alyssa, we haven’t seen each other all summer, please talk to me.”
“Fine, so how was your summer?” Alyssa asked, sounding as if she still hadn’t forgiven him.
“It was good. Nothing special, I just got a lot of footage of Teddy and Victorie making out.” David explained, “Few hours total, I would have more, but she caught me and removed my camera from my possession, to locations that I do not know.”
“Nice,” Alyssa said finally smiling, “I went to Brazil to see the Quiditch World Cup, and that was so much fun. While I was their I got to go rafting along the Amazon River.”
“Cool,” He said.
“Yeah, it was, so was that the highlight of your summer? Spying on your sisters?” She asked with a laugh.
The carriages finally reached the school and the two got out and walked into the Gryffindor table, and waited for the sorting to start. After about ten minutes everyone was seated, and Professor Flitwick was leading the first years to the front of the hall. David scanned the crowd for Albus, and saw him towards the back of the queue with Rose.
After what seemed like hours Albus was called, and he walked up to the stool and placed the hat on his head. Almost the second it touched his head it shouted “Gryffindor!” David and Alyssa clapped along with the other Gryffindors as Albus ran to the table looking relived. Moments later Rose was called up. She placed the hat on her head, but it took it’s time sorting her. In the end she joined Albus at the Gryffindor table.
When the final student had been sorted talk broke out, but it ended quickly when Professor McGonagall stood up. Silence fell as quickly as the noise had risen.
“Let the feast begin.” She said simply, and as she did food appeared on the tables.
David quickly began piling his plate with everything he could reach, and stuffed it in his mouth; this earned him a disgusted look from Alyssa.
“What?” He asked, and after looking at her plate asked, “Don’t you ever get tired of eating like a rabbit?”
“Don’t you ever get tired of eating like a pig?” She retorted with a smirk.
“Touché,” David said, and continued stuffing his face.
After a while dinner vanished and was replacing with desert. David began to stuff his face, again, as did Alyssa. After several helpings of ice cream, chocolate, and other desert foods (mostly ice cream and chocolate) the two walked up the Grand staircase to the seventh floor. They finally reached the portrait of the fat lady, gave her the password, and went into the Gryffindor common room. When they reached the two doors leading to the separate boys and girls staircases. David and Alyssa bayed each other good night, and went up the staircase leading to their dormitories.
David walked up the boy’s stairs, and into the third year’s dormitory. He was the first one there, but within moments his second best friend, whom the called Dynamite for reasons unknown. Dynamite was just what he always introduced himself as.
“Sup David?” Dynamite asked, slapping his hand, before walking to his own bed.
“Not much, you?’ David asked as he began to change.
“How’s Alyssa?” he asked smirking as he said it.
“She’s fine,” David said nervously, and at the look on Dynamites face added, “Dude, she’s not my girlfriend, she’s my best friend.”
“What ever you say,” Dynamite said, still smirking.
Their other roommates arrived after another few moments. They greeted Danny, Frankie, and Fred (David’s cousin). They went to bed not long after, and when David woke up the next morning he got dressed and met Alyssa in the common room. She was already down there when he came down, and they made their way to breakfast together. They ate in silence for several minutes before they were joined by Dynamite.
“So, how’s the schools favorite couple this morning.” Dynamite asked smiling broadly.
“Is this how we’re going to start every new school year, not to mention the middle and end parts?” Alyssa asked angrily.
“Yep, that’s right Davey’s girl.” Dynamite said still smirking.
“Fine, Dwayne.” Alyssa said fiercely smiling at the look on Dynamites face as she used his real name.
“I told you never to call me that!” He said angrily as Alyssa laughed.
“And I told you nobody outside my family was allowed to call me ‘Davey’” David said smiling along with Alyssa.
Dynamite got up and left, and not long after they received their schedules for the day. Their first class was Herbology with Professor Longbottom. They ran out of the hall and to the doors leading to the grounds.
“Come on, we want to get there before it starts raining!” Alyssa said just before they opened the door.
“I’m coming, and it’s already raining.” David said after they had run into the grounds.
It was indeed raining. Pouring to be exact. After they had been running for a few minutes they saw a flash of lightning and a crack of thunder boomed through the grounds, and it began to rain even harder. When they finally entered the greenhouse they were soaked through. After several moments, in which the other members of the class arrived, Professor Longbottom came in and called for quiet.
The lesson passed with Professor Longbottom explaining the main curriculum of this years Herbology class. This was true of all of their other classes. That night at dinner David and Alyssa sat at the Gryffindor table eating. They usually at just the two of them and preferred it that way. Occasionally they would be joined by Dynamite or Dianna, Alyssa’s second best friend.
They finished eating and walked up to the common room and sat by the fire talking about random subjects. They decided to go to bed at about ten o’clock that night. David went upstairs and found Dynamite waiting for him.
“Dude, when are you going to realize that Alyssa has a crush on you?” Dynamite asked raising his eyebrows.
“No she doesn’t, how can you still think that?” David asked incredulously.
“How can I, how can everyone?” Dynamite asked.
