Chapter 5: Purebloods and Desires
Albus walked out of potions with an amused smile on his face. It was always funny to him to see Rose lose control like that, especially when it came to Scorpius. He felt extremely lucky that Hailey did not act that way towards him.
"And there you go again, thinking about her again," a small voice inside his head said.
"Well, I can’t exactly help it,” He thought to himself, “Her curly blonde hair and those ever changing colourful eyes… and that smile…"
“Mate? Earth to Albus…” his friend Tristain said.
“Huh? Oh, sorry, did you say something?”
“No, you just looked like you got hit with a bludger for a second there, I was kind of worried.”
“Oh, sorry, I was just thinking,” muttered Albus.
“Let me guess… Peterson?”
“Yeah, how did you know?”
“Albus, you’ve been my best mate since 1st year you don’t think by now that I know that 99.9 percent of the time you are thinking of her?”
“I don’t think of her that much!” Albus disagreed.
“Oh, yeah? Then why last night in your sleep were you muttering something about Hailey and the way she reads Witch Weekly?”
“I…I… no, I wasn’t why would I talk about something like that?”
“That’s what I’m wondering. All I know is that you have to tell her your feelings one day before she finally finds someone that she actually likes and wants to be with.”
“I know it’s just… not as easy as it seems,” Albus replied. He could feel his cheeks getting hotter by the minute as he began to imagine Hailey and him holding hands and enjoying afternoon walks by the lake…
Can you say cheesy? Get a hold of yourself, A small voice said in the back of his, but he ignored it. He always heard that stupid voice in the back of his head when he was thinking about her, but he was beginning to worry about his sanity.
Anything for love.
If the first day back to school could go any worse for Rose it just did. She had never, not once in her 6 years of Hogwarts received a detention, and most of all she had to spend it with that arse-hole, Scorpius. It was his entire fault, it if had just done what she asked him to do she would still have a flawless record but no, he had to just go screw things up.
“Well you were stirring it the wrong way,” Whispered a voice inside of her head.
“No the directions clearly stated 40 times clockwise,” she thought back.
“Well life doesn’t come with directions now does it?”
“What in the bloody hell is that suppose to mean?”
“I think you know exactly what it means.”
“Oh great first my friends talk nonsense and now my own head is going insane!”
“Well they do say follow your heart not your head.”
“And now I see why!”
Rose let out a frustrated sigh and hurried her pace towards Transfiguration. Excited to see Teddy, she entered the room and saw Hailey talking to Ted who seemed quite amused. Hailey was playing with a stray curl of her hair. Rose knew that was a little technique Hailey used when she flirted. Rose laughed softly but not quiets enough to direct Ted and Hailey’s attention towards her. Hailey backed away blushing and took her seat as Rose hurried towards Teddy.
“Hi Ted… I mean Professor Lupin!” Rose quickly said, “How come you never told any of us that you were teaching here!”
Teddy laughed and said hello to her, but before he could explain, Albus walked in and came up to Rose and Teddy and asked the same question. Teddy whispered so that the other students that were now entering the room could not hear their conversation, “It’s Professor Lupin only in the classroom for you two and the rest of your family, and I thought it would be a nice surprise. I needed a job and why not have a job where I could teach some of my favourite people, who are officially now my family,” he said with a smile, Rose was extremely happy for Victoire and him, and besides who wouldn’t want to be part of the wonderfully wacky Weasley family?
Teddy told them to take their seats so he could begin class but before Rose set her books down Christopher came walking in and when he saw her, a big grin spread across her face. Rose felt something, somewhere in the bottom of her stomach flutter as he came up to her.
“So long no see, Rose.”
“You can say that,” Replied Rose, her smile now matching his.
“So how has your day been so far?” He asked, gently putting his hand on her arm. Rose found it odd for him to this; yes, he put his arm around her from time to time but never any more affection than that of just friends.
“Ugh, it’s just been a mess,” Rose said frustrated, “I have detention tonight, my first detention ever.”
“Rose Weasley has a detention?” exclaimed Christopher, “I never thought that was possible for an over achiever like you.”
“Oh, be quiet, I'm not an overachiever,” replied Rose, who slapped him playfully on the shoulder. “And you know what makes it worse?”
“What’s that?” Chris asked, cocking his eyebrow.
“I have it with Malfoy,” spat Rose who said his name like it was something dreadful.
Christopher studied her face for a moment before he said anything as if he was trying to comprehend what she was saying to him, “That must suck…” he said finally.
“It does suck, Chris,” replied Rose, but by the look on his face he seemed to not think it was a big deal, “You do know whom I’m talking about right?”
Chris finally broke out of his zoned out gazed, “Yeah, of course I do, I just thought… I don’t know… maybe I thought it wasn’t as big of a deal anymore…”
Rose shook her head desperately, “Oh no, you don’t think were going to be friends too do you? Because if I have to tell one more person-“
“No, Rosie I never even thought about that,” he said, wrapping his arm around her shoulder, he had a bright smile on his face.
“Rose let out a soft giggle and put her head on his chest, her heart began to beat harder “Of course you didn’t…”
They both heard Teddy clear his throat softly and Christopher let go of Rose and gave her a flashy smile before he took his seat. Rose sat down and began to listen to Teddy. Though, as much as she tried to listen she couldn’t help but feel that three maybe four pairs of eyes were watching her…
Scorpius Malfoy did not want to be here, any place but here would be great. He was standing out in the lower courtyard of the castle hidden beneath an old oak tree, hoping no one would be able to find him there. It wasn’t like his day was going bad or anything. Actually, it was going quite pleasant, but he was bored. Sure he had been to only one class that was eventful in every way that it could be since Rose Weasley was in that class with him. But he was ready do something exciting with his life that had nothing to do with homework, N.E.W.T classes, or quidditch. Bored with everything that reminded him of things he did not want to be reminded of.
“Skipping class again I see? Will you ever learn from your ways, Scorp?” a cold voice from behind him asked.
“I would ask the same to you but then again that would be asking too much,” He said turning around to face the dark skinned girl.
“I always thought you knew me too well,” Mira stated, her lips curving into a seductive smile.
Scorpius rolled his eyes and leaned back against the wall, staring blankly at Mira’s face, and asked impatiently, “What do you want Mira?”
Mira laughed softly and moved closer to him, “Can’t someone see what his or her friend is up to without being questioned?”
“I would hardly call us friends, Mira.”
For a brief second, Scorpius thought he saw a glimpse of sadness etched across her face but it quickly moved back to the same lustful expression, “Yeah, I always thought we were much more.”
Scorpius let out a frustrated sigh, “You know that’s not what I’m talking about Mira.”
Mira walked closer to Scorpius, to the point where their bodies were almost touching. Scorpius felt his own body stiffen as he looked into her dark brown eyes; too dark he said to him self. She pressed her chest against his and took hold of the collar of his robes.
“You don’t want to do this,” he hissed.
“Oh yeah?” She asked, tilting her head upward where their lips almost touched. Scorpius could not back away he was already pinned against the wall, “Are you going to try and stop me?” Her lips were now centimetres from his but he felt nothing. He had kissed her before and like those times before this one he only felt one thing -nothing.
Mira’s upper lip was now touching his lower lip but before their lips could collide, before Scorpius could push her away, she let go of her grip on him. Scorpius sighed in relief but was still confused, “Why didn’t you do it?” He asked.
”What would be the point if you were just going to pretend I was her, not that I’m not saying it wasn't fun to mess with you,” she stated with a cruel smile on her face, she did not look the least bit disappointed, only amused.
“I don’t have the slightest clue what you are talking about Mira,” Scorpius stated.
Mira grunted, “You know exactly who I’m talking about, Scorp. Although, I don’t know what you see in that Weasley, but better than liking that Mudblood, Peterson, like all the other boys in this school does.”
Scorpius couldn’t take it anymore, his blood boiled at those words; the cool autumn air had turn into a blistering hot summer day, “The Weasleys and the Potters are just like you and me, Mira, and Hailey has a name and it is not ‘Mudblood’.” He inhaled a lot of air before he continued, “The world would be a lot better if you and others would realized that.”
Mira laughed, her face now a disgusting scowl, “It’s always going to be there though Scorp, the purebloods, muggles, half-bloods, and the mudbloods, and I think it’s about time you realized that.” She came closer to him again, “You know where we come from, you and I were both raised the same way, don’t throw it all away just because you might lose all your friends who will mean nothing to you in the end.”
“Well, first, Mira, at least I have real friends I can rely on, second, what am I throwing away exactly, my family’s pride? My blood-status? Well I thought you would know me well enough by now to know I don’t give a rat’s arse about those things.”
Mira rolled her eyes and turned her back to Scorpius but then after a few seconds, she faced him again, “You know, Scorp, at least Rose Weasley is the smart one; at least she can see right through you. But I’m not worried, you’ll prove yourself wrong eventually,” she gave him a swift kiss on the cheek and walked back towards the castle. Scorpius fell back against the wall again and closed his eyes from the world, hoping, praying that Mira wasn’t right.
