We were about 10 minutes late to potions, but Snape didn't punish us, causing Potter to mutter something about favouritism.
We were making fear potions, which act basically like dementors, making you remember the worst moments of your life and taking away any happy memories
Me and Seth finished ours about 15 minutes before the end of the lesson, and as usual, both of our potions were perfect. We used to practice making potions a lot at the Riddle manor, in the dungeons usually.
5 minutes before the end of the lesson, Snape stopped everyone. "Right, we are going to take two potions at random, and test them. The people we will be testing them on are...Potter and-"
I interrupted him. However much I disliked Harry, I absolutely detested Snape. "Aren't YOU going to test them? Or are you too much of a coward to?"
Snape slowly turned round and stared me straight in the eye. I knew I'd made yet another enemy. "You will call me 'Sir'." I could tell he was reluctant to take points from his own house.
I wasn't going to back down now. "Why should I call you sir? That would make it sound like I RESPECT you or sumin." I said scathingly. Seth was grinning, along with most of the Gryffindors, who were also looking extremely surprised.
"Zara will join Mr Potter to test a potion." said Snape in a threatening tone.
I angrily stood up, roughly pushing the chair backwards into the desk behind. walking up to the front, Snape took a sample of Draco's potion for Harry, and a sample of Hermione's for me. He obviously thought they would be the strongest. Luckily he hadn't noticed that mine and Seth’s were much stronger, or we would have ended up with them.
Potter took his first. He started shaking, and fell to his knee's muttering distressedly. His spaced out eyes slowly came back to reality after about 15 seconds. Snape was smirking. I grimaced slightly before swallowing mine.
As soon as I took it, every terrible thing in my life came right to the surface of my memory. I fell to the floor, and slightly remember screaming. After what seemed like ages, but was probably about 20 seconds, I came back to reality. The whole class, and Snape were staring at me in stunned shock I hoped I hadn't said anything. I attempted to stand up, still shaking, Seth ran up to the front looking very concerned, helping me up.
Potter had just had his potion, and now it was Zara's turn. I was silently furious at Snape for making her take the damn potion. She confidently lifted the vial, and swallowed the contents.
For a split second she seemed fine, but then she collapsed onto the floor, violently shaking. She let out a chilling scream, and he felt an involuntary shiver run up his spine as she yelled out, sounding in agony.
Then was the bad bit. She stopped screaming, then yelled out, sounding absolutely terrified. "Seth, he's going to kill us" Then it all stopped. I could tell by the look in her eyes that she didn't know what she'd just said, didn't know she had been screaming like she did when Voldemort was torturing her. I won't call him our dad. he most he could ever be is our Father.
I could tell from the look in Seth's eyes that something had happened. Everyone was staring at me in shock.
Snape seemed to regain himself, and sneered at me. "Well either Miss Granger's potion was very strong, or you have a very...interesting... past. Who is ‘he‘?”
I tried to hide my shock and fear at realising I must have said something
"Seth, who is it?"
The bell chimed just in time to get us out of an awkward questioning. We grabbed our bags, and managed to merge in with everyone. Once we got to the dinner hall, everyone was already talking. We went and sat with Draco Malfoy again. about 5 minutes late, Blaise came in, looking very angry. He slammed himself down next to Draco, and started eating without looking at any of us.
I looked up, along with most of the other people in the hall, when two solitary black owl's flew in. A few people were muttering, and the whispers grew when they landed in front of me and Seth. "What? Is there a crime against getting letters?!" I asked grumpily.
"Who is it from?" Ron Weasley asked distrustingly.
"Hmm... let's see. Oh this is our weekly letter from Voldemort." I said sarcastically.
I opened mine up, as Seth angrily added "She was JOKING guys..." When even more whispers started up.
As I read the first line, I said, "Fucking hell, read yours Seth!" a bit too loudly, and everyone once again turned their attention to us.
Dumbledore stood up. "Would you both bring your letters up here please?"
Lupin, who was standing in for some woman called Umbridge for a month as she had to do some "important work for the ministry" Quickly interrupted him. "I'll check them Albus. I'm sure they're fine."
Lupin walked over to us, and I quickly handed my letter to him, hoping like hell that he would cover for us. He read it through quickly, then said calmly. "It's fine Albus."
He walked up to the staff table, but as he was about to sit down, Harry called out, causing everyone to fall silent. "He's lying for them! He was talking to them earlier, he knows them, and the other one does too!"
Whispering broke out once again. Lupin turned around, as Dumbledore stood up. "ENOUGH. I will not have this attitude. Everyone continue with your dinner, the next person to mention those letter's will find themselves in detention."
I was finally able to finish reading the letter in silence, and saw Seth doing the same beside me.
I would like to remind you that I do not accept betrayal, ESPECIALLY not from my own blood. Return now while you still have the chance. Do you need reminding that I will not accept disobedience? You can't hide anywhere, you have the mark, and you have the scars.
If you join the other side, I will not hesitate to kill you. You can't change who you are Zara, evil.
From your Master and Father. The Dark Lord.
I quickly swapped letters and read Seth's, which was basically the same.
I looked up at Lupin. Seth stood up and walked out of the hall. I followed him out, and we walked into a small side corridor. "What are we going to do?!"
I looked at Seth slightly annoyed. "How am I supposed to know?!"
"Well should we go back?"
"Back to where?"
"Yeah but which Black?" He raised an eyebrow at me when I said this.
"Well we aren't going back to Sirius. That's just admitting defeat. And anyway, we can't trust any of them anymore. We'll go to Regulus's."
"We can trust Lupin. He lied for us back there, that would have got him in a ton of trouble if he got caught." I argued back.
I heard footsteps walk around the corner suddenly. "Now your in trouble. Regulus Black was a deatheater, and you just admitted Lupin lied."
Potter and Weasley had their wands pointed at us. Harry sent Hermione to get Dumbledore and Weasley then went to get Lupin, leaving us with Harry.
"So are you gonna tell me who you really are?" Harry asked glaring at us both. I almost laughed, and raised an eyebrow at him.
"Who do you THINK we are?"
"I don't know, but-"
"Exactly. You don't know, so fuck off, you have no proof."
"No proof of what, Miss...Zara?" Dumbledore's voice came a lot more coldly than usual.
I bit my lip slightly before turning around. "Voldemort‘s going to kill us, we came here to hide from him!" I could feel Seth looking at me in confusion before catching on to what I was doing.
Joining in, Seth continued. "If he finds out we're here, he'll come and make us join him again!"
I could see in Dumbledore’s eye's that he didn't believe us. "Come to my office please, and Harry as well."
We warily followed him up the stairs, as people stared at us with mistrust. We followed Dumbledore and Potter up a staircase behind a gargoyle, and into what was quite obviously Dumbledore's office.
Once we were in, he closed and magically locked the door then indicated for us to sit down. We both remained standing, glaring at Potter who was returning it, but so badly that i almost laughed.
"I will once again ask you both if there is anything you would like to tell me."
"What exactly do you want us to tell you?" I said coldly.
Seth answered before I could. "Well I can tell you something. Did you know that Sirius Black-"
I punched him in the stomach to shut him up, hissing "shut up" when he glared at me.
"You know, I think maybe we should pay Sirius a visit. If you're both unwilling to tell me anything?"
I elbowed Seth to keep him quiet. "Fine. He won't be able to tell you anything."
Dumbledore picked up a gold pen off his desk, and cast a port key charm on it. "Come here, all three of you, and hold onto this."
