We were in our bedroom getting ready to go to Lily’s muggle friend’s wedding when it happened. I was tying my tie and Lily was trying to zip up her dress.
“Oh my God. I’m so fat!” she cried as she stared at her pregnant stomach after she had finally zipped it up.
“No you’re not. You’re only 2 months pregnant Lily!” I exclaimed.
She turned and glared at me. “Says you!” she said angrily.
"Lily...c'mon. I'm not joking, you look good," I said calmly, staring at her reflection in the mirror.
She scowled. "God, I don't know why I ever went out with you, let alone married you," she said in exasperation.
"It's because you loooove me," I said in a tiny voice.
"Yeah, well now I'm starting to regret it," she snapped.
"What? Why?" I whined.
"Because you," she pointed at me, "did this," she pointed at her stomach, "to me," she finished, pointing at her face.
“Seriously, love. You look fine,” I said a bit gentler, trying to get her to calm down.
“You know what James? I always knew you could charm people very well, but I didn’t know you were a liar too,” she said coldly.
“What?!” I asked, flabbergasted. “What did I do wrong this time?? Lily? Why would I lie?”
She just rolled her eyes.
“Shut the hell up James. God. You’re so insensitive. You always say things like
that and all you do is annoy the hell out me,” she said angrily, her eyes flashing. Okaaaay, try to backtrack…
“Err, okay Lily. You’re fat,” I said. She stared at me, her eyes filling up with tears.
“Oh my God!” she cried, bursting out in tears. “You’re right! I’m fat!!” she screamed.
“No, no love. I was just agreeing with you to make me feel better,” I soothed, trying to calm her down.
Lily just cried harder. Oh Merlin, make it stop!
“I’m as big as a whale!!!” she sobbed.
“Lily?? Flower?? Love?? Come on Lils, you’re not even close to the size as a whale. You
know who is as big as a whale?? You’re sister’s husband! Or even your sister when she
was pregnant!” I said.
She sobbed harder. Oh Merlin, the hormones must be getting to her. When Remus told
me that she’d be like that, I didn’t believe him! I put my arms around her and she sobs
into my shoulder.
“Lily. Please don’t cry,” I pleaded, but she’s not even paying attention. “You are not fat,” I
She sniffled and pulled away. She smiled weakly at me and then pointed at my chest.
“You’re shirt’s all wet,” she said lamely.
“It doesn’t matter, I’ll change,” I said casually. I pulled the shirt off and grabbed another one out of my dresser and pulled it on. “And look at it this way, if you think you’re fat now…just wait 7 months. Then you’ll be a whale.” I added.
Her eyes filled with tears again, her lower lip began to tremble and she burst out crying again. Oh Merlin, here we go again. I HATE hormones.
