Lily sat with James in the library, she could feel someone behind her watching every move she made, but every time she tried to see who no one was there. James sighed.
“What's wrong?” James asked eventually.
“Someone is watching us!” Lily hissed at him.
James looked around but couldn't see any one, he shrugged his shoulders, and carried on trying to teach her the basics of transfiguration, which she couldn't seem to grasp.
“Lily, Christmas has come and gone. I am still trying to teach you third year, please will you just concentrate!” James snapped her, Lily looked shocked and hurt. Lowly she sat up straight and just stared at James, then she got up and walked out of the room, and along the cold corridors.
James stared at the spot Lily had just left blankly for a second before shaking his head.
“Shit!” He jumped up and ran out of the room.
Lily reached the fat lady, tears streaming down her face, as she opened her mouth to say the password the portrait swung open.
“Lily?” Sirius stood there, his face etched with concern.
Lily didn't say anything, just pushed past him and straight up the stairs to her dorm.
Sirius was still stood at the portrait hole when James ran panting up the stairs, he looked desperately at Sirius.
“I'm a royal arse-wipe.” James gasped then ran past Sirius, who looked totally bemused.
He ran to the girl's staircase and tried desperately to get up, but they had turned to a slide and he kept falling down.
“James, man, what the hell has happened?” Sirius asked, Marlene and Alice who had been sitting in the sofa in front of the fire, where suddenly by Sirius' side. “What did you do?”
“I kinda yelled at Lily, didn't really mean to, just ... I yelled at her... she didn't do anything wrong... I don't... I shouldn't... I'm a git... Damn.” James said still panting slightly, and looking slightly deranged. He looked like he was about to cry as well.
“Maybe we should go check on her...” Marlene said as Alice grabbed her by the arm and started to drag her up the stairs.
The next day when Lily came down the stairs into the common room, ready to go down to breakfast, she swept past James, he reached out and grabbed her by the elbow.
“Get off me!” Lily hissed.
“Aw look the little lovers are having a spat!” Cried out a grl with badly dyed blonde hair, Lily knew her but wasn't sure why. Lily ignored her.
“No.” James replied evenly.
“Look at them, pathetic.” Another girl hissed, only she looked identical to the first.
Lily was getting frustrated, people were staring, some people were saying stuff about her, and James wouldn't let go.
“James maybe this is the best place...” Sirius whispered. But he was ignored.
“Get off me!” Lily hissed, they were creating a scene, she knew it, he knew it, every bloody person in the room knew it.
“Not until you swear you will listen to me.” James replied.
“Go to hell!” Lily tried to snatch her arms away, but James' grip tightened, she was going to bruise, he was hurting her now, she'd not let him know it though.
Remus noticed however.
“James! For god's sake! You're marking her!” When Sirius noticed this he tried to grab his friend. However James' fist swung around and caught him on the jaw.
Sirius tried again to get James off of Lily, but he failed once more, and a struggle started. James fell to the floor, bringing Lily and Sirius down with him. There was a scream, Remus jumped in to try and pry his friends apart.
They could hear crying, Lily's no doubt, but no one could really see who was who, people were shouting.
Marlene and Alice walked into the common room, followed by some one who shouldn't have been there.
“What the hell!” James shouted as he walked in to the common room.
“Blood! There's blood!” Someone screamed, James threw himself in and helped Remus pull the three apart.
So left standing there was Lily, her nose bleeding, and sporting a black eye. Remus with a cut on his left brow. Sirius with a cut across his cheek. James with blood dripping down his chin and and broken nose. And James?
“What the hell!” Sirius exclaimed, and slowly before their eyes the bleeding James transformed, and Amos was struggling in Frank Longbottom's grasp.
“Someone has some explaining to do.” Alice said as Lily looked more and more confused.
“Wh-what... I don't... I can't...” Lily started, James looked at her, the real James, and he looked so sorry.
There was a bruise forming on her elbow, she looked scared and confused, she didn't understand.
Marlene and Alice gently lead her out of the common room, people having sensed the very tense situation had left, and all that remained were Frank, Remus, Sirius, James and the fake James. Otherwise known as Amos.
And before anyone knew it James swung his fist and knocked Amos out.
“Bloody git!”
