Disclaimer: If I was J.K. Rowling, I wouldn’t be so short, I would be hiding from the angry Harmonians and I would have a pet cow named Dafty. Seeing I’m still as tall as my 9-year old sister, my friends are trying to force me to finish Deathly Hallows, and the closest I’m gonna get to a pet cow is to buy a stuffed one a build-a-bear, I think I just proved I’m not her. I also don’t own Harry Potter- doesn’t my life suck?
Last Chapter: “Star light, star bright, first star I see tonight, I wish I may, I wish I might, have this wish I wish tonight,” Hermione recited. “Star,” she began, “I wish that I could find someone, anyone really, that could help me with my parents. If that isn’t too much to ask,”
With that, Hermione fell into a fitful slumber. Little did she know that her wish would come true- soon.
Chapter One: Meetings
Hermione walked along the sidewalk, occasionally tugging at her long sleeves. She knew she would be getting weird stares- it wasn’t even fall, but she had to find a way to hide what her father did last night.
She arrived in the classroom just before the bell rang. She slowly crept to her usual spot- in the back, only to find it was occupied.
The occupant- a boy, had jet black hair and a thin lightning shaped scar on his forehead. But what Hermione noticed first were his emerald green eyes, even though they were covered with glasses.
She gave him a small smile, and then sat in the desk next to him.
The rest of the day passed by quickly, and then before Hermione knew it, it was time to leave.
Before she could get off school grounds, she heard someone call her name. When she turned, she came face-to-face with Kimberly Basset.
Kimberly (to all the teachers) was the image of perfection. She was quite pretty- with ice-blue eyes and wavy platinum blonde hair. She had straight A’s in all her classes. The teachers didn’t know that she copied off her groupies. All she was to Hermione was a bully.
“Oy Freak!” Kimberly yelled. “Are you going to make some more weird stuff happen?” Her friends laughed. Hermione kept walking, trying hard to not let the tears threatening to fall drop.
She seeked refuge at the park. When Hermione arrived, she was crushed to find kids were already on HER spot- the monkey bars.
At this, Hermione cracked. She sat on the nearest park bench and cried. Her sobbing was interrupted by someone touching her shoulder.
“Miss?” a voice asked. “Are you alright?”
Hermione looked up, to see a man with light brown hair and hazel eyes. “I’m fine sir, thank you for asking,” Hermione replied quietly wiping her eyes.
“Well, I’m Remus Lupin,” the man stated holding out his hand.
“I’m Hermione, pleasure to meet your acquaintance Mr. Lupin,” Hermione said, shaking Remus’ hand.
Remus’ eyes grew at the formal greeting. Whoever Hermione’s parents were, they were blessed with a very well-mannered child. “Well Hermione, I’ve seen you around here a lot.”
“Yes, sir, I come here almost everyday,” Hermione replied.
“Do your parents come to watch you?” Remus asked curiously, but regretted it after Hermione’s crestfallen appearance.
“Not often sir,” Hermione said, and then she looked up to the already orange sky. “I’m sorry Mr. Lupin, but I have to go- It was a pleasure meeting you.” She dashed out of the park so fast; when Remus blinked his eyes she was gone.
Hermione ran as fast as she could to number 14. If she was late again- she shuddered. She didn’t want to know what her father would do to her this time- and frankly she didn’t want to find out.
She ran through the door hoping there weren’t two figures sitting at the dining room table.
Her wish was crushed however, when a cold voice stated “You’re late… again.”
“I’m really sorry daddy, I just lost-,”
“Don’t give me any of that ‘lost track of time shit’ – I don’t believe any of it. Go to your room- no dinner tonight.” He growled.
Hermione quickly stepped upstairs, then entered her room. It was quite bland, with pale blue walls, a few books in the corner and a small bed by the window.
She sat on her bed and sighed. ‘Maybe I can get a drink of water after they go to bed,’ Hermione thought.
A few hours later, Hermione thought it was late enough to sneak out.
She slowly opened the door, trying to make it not squeak. It didn’t thankfully, then, she crept down the hallway.
When she reached towards the knob of the bathroom door, Hermione felt a hand grab her- “Oh no you don’t”
Hermione could barely walk after what her father did to her- and now she would have to walk to school and face another horrible day.
She limped into the classroom (having bruised her leg) only to find the person she least wanted to see- Kimberly.
“Look Maddy, it’s the freak and her buckteeth. Do you even own a mirror Hermy? Or a brush?” Kimberly asked. Maddy- the blonde to her left laughed. Hermione was on the verge of tears.
“Hey!” a voice said. “Leave her alone!”
The giggling stopped.
“What did you say?”
“I said leave her alone!” the voice repeated. Then, the boy Hermione saw yesterday appeared.
“Fine” Kimberly replied looking flustered. “Let’s go” and Kimberly and her posse’ went to their desks.
Hermione looked up to the boy. “Thanks”
“It’s no problem- Kimberly and her friends needed to be stopped. By the way, I’m Harry. Harry Potter.”
“Come on Hermione- class is about to start!” Harry exclaimed pulling Hermione towards the back.
Over the day, Hermione and Harry discovered they had many things in common- they both liked to read, and both always wanted a dog.
After the bell rang, Harry and Hermione headed for the park. Both climbed the monkey bars, sat down and began to talk.
Meanwhile, Remus looked up and smiled. ‘Looks like Hermione finally found a friend!’ He called for her, and she and her friend turned to face him. Remus got a good look at him.
His ebony hair- looked a LOT like his old friend James’, and he could see the boy’s eye color- a beautiful emerald green- almost the exact same shade as the late Lily Potter. Remus stood up to get a better look at him. His hazel eyes grew wide in recognition, and he dropped his newspaper.
“Harry?” Remus croaked.
