2 weeks passed quickly and Ginny was dressed and ready for her first day as Assistant to Hermoine Granger, Auror First Class, Head of the Department of Safety for Muggles.  Hermoine hadn’t told her exactly what her duties were to be, for that matter, Ginny didn’t have a clue on how Hermoine kept Muggles safe.  She was just happy to be working with Hermoine and it also didn’t hurt that she was being paid triple what she was making at Honeydukes.

Ginny felt like the luckiest girl in the world, she flooed to the Ministry and walked out of the dusty grate with a smile on her face.  Hermoine had insisted that she stick to the look of a rock star, no robes, jeans and a casual long sleeved top.  She had said it helped in her investigations if she looked "hot" as the muggles put it.  She was able to get any information from muggle men buy just tossing her hair, flirting or standing dangerously too close.  Ginny thought it was so funny the way, muggle men could be so weak.  But then there was weakness in wizards, too.  Her mind wandered to the black haired green eyed bloke, then she pushed the thought away and came back to the hallway.  She stepped on to the lift and noticed a few wizards staring at her attire.  She pulled her jacket tightly around her and stepped out to the 5 floor.  Down the hall she saw the sign that made her smile.  She pushed the door in and there was Hermoine, sitting behind her desk looking like she hadn’t slept in days, a stack of paper work, books to her left and a handsome dark haired wizard, with the most beautiful pale blue eyes she had ever seen, in front of her.

"Hello, you must be Ginny?" said the gorgeous man.

"Why, yes, yes I am." Ginny’s thoughts were wicked. Her face turned pink at thoughts running through her mind.

"Ginny, this is Jonothon Ashbury, he works in the Department of Magical Events" said Hermoine

with out looking up.

"It’s good to meet you, I hope you enjoy working here, but then you have such a wonderful person to call your boss, I don’t see how you couldn’t." he said with a smile at Hermoine.

"Thank you, its nice to meet you too" Ginny smiled, she was going to love working here.

"Well I’ll leave you two, I have to get some work done, good Bye, then."  He stammered and bumped into Ginny as he was leaving, apologized and closed the door behind him.

Hermoine laughed, and Ginny could see that they were going to have a wonderful time.

Ginny teased Hermoine "What a wonderful boss I have!  Geez, could he be more in lust with you."

"Awe, Jon is harmless, he comes in every morning with some pathetic excuse to talk to me.  Maybe, you can take over, yes, that is your first duty, Make Jon lust after you!" she smiled.  "It wont be hard, in fact I’m sure tomorrow you will be his favorite subject”.

"Oh come on Hermoine, he has eyes for you!"

"No, gin, Men go for the women who pay attention to them.  They want to be appreciated. So give him a complement and he will be flying high all day."  Hermione smiled and thought to herself of the the red headed git.  "I’m just kidding, Gin, Jon‘s a nice fellow and gorgeous, and all but.  Well, we have work to do..."

Ginny quickly changed her facial expression from smile to serious.... "Yes, mam!  Where shall I sit and when do we flirt with these muggle men!"  The serious tone was not convincing and Hermoine laughed.

"Please don’t call me Mam.  Call me Auror First Class! "both burst out laughing.

The day went on with similar jokes, and Hermoine decided it was time to step out of the office and start on a case that had been sitting on her desk since that morning.  They both women apparated into a London street that seemed to be deserted.  With a quick glance at her notes, Hermione gave Ginny a quick explanation on what they were about to do.

The incident report explained that on Sat morning a muggle was seen exiting an abandoned building with a mangy brown mutt.  Several witnesses had confirmed that the muggle would speak to the dog as if it was human.  The witness also said that the dog turned and attacked the Muggle without warning mauling him until the witnesses started throwing bottles and other litter that was strewn on the dirty side walk.  The dog they said stared at them and ran out of sight into a dark alley.  The muggle was in an intensive care unit at a muggle hospital, the muggle doctors had diagnosed him with a rare type of rabies.

"Gin, we first have to interview the witnesses and I’m sure you know we are looking for a

animagus.  I don’t think he is a death eater, but just in case be ready to draw you wand."

Ginny could not contain her excitement, she would be able to curse and fight, and it would be her job! "I could get use to this." she said to Hermione.

They opened the door of what seemed to be a tavern, a dusty and dreary looking place with mismatched tables and chairs, a short bar and stools that looked too rickety to sit on.  The bartender looked just as dreary.  The door closed behind Ginny and the bar suddenly became as dark as a cave.  The only light left shining was behind the dusty old bartender.

"What do you two want?? said the old man.

"We want to ask you a couple of questions." said Hermione.

Ginny looked around to see the only client in the establishment.  He was looking at her and seemed to recognize her know her.... She kept her eyes on him, thinking he was a creepy perv.  Then he stood up and said.. "I know you don’t I, I know I’ve seen you before." He walked towards her.  Ginny stood firm.  Not only was she going to prove herself, but she wanted Hermoine to know that she could handle herself in a situation.

"Sit back down old man" Gin said with a firm tone her mother uses when angered.

Hermoine was finishing up with the dusty old bartender; she came up behind Ginny and said

"Do you know him Ginny?"  "

"He looks familiar but I can’t place him."

"You old man", the man looked up from the table, he had cowered back to the seat when Ginny had told him to.

"Who are you?" asked Hermoine in a sweet tone.  Not wanting to scare the old man.

He looked up and smiled. His teeth were a black and yellow mess, his shabby clothes reminded Hermoine of Lupin's old robes, torn and frayed.  The scars on his face were familiar too.

"My name is Gray Thomas" he said and slumped down further into the chair.

"Have you seen anything unusual in the past couple of days?  asked Hermoine.

Just at that moment they heard a door slam in the back.  There was an exit.  Hermoine and Ginny both ran to the back, Ginny pulled her wand, just in case. Hermoine had no need she had learned how to curse, without even pulling it out of her sleeve, something that few wizards were able to do.  "Somethings not right here.  Gin, follow me closely."  She ran out the back exit and down the deserted alley way.  "Moine whats going on, who are we looking for now??"

"Werewolves." said Hermioine breathing heavily.

"What?" said Ginny surprised by what she thought was going to be a boring interview followed by paper work back at the office.

"Ginny, the man inside the bar is a werewolf, we must have stumbled on to one of the last werewolf communities. They have been hiding from the ministry since the battle." walking further into the dark alley.  Hermonie stopped.  Ginny was thinking of Bill and his face, what that evil Greybeck had down to him. Greybeck was in Azkaban, but she knew many of his kind had gone into hiding after the fall of Voldomort.  She also knew that many of them were innocent but were being punished just because of the Greybeck situation.  The ministry considered them an unstable lot and had tried to segregate them, it didn’t last long.  The werewolves disappeared overnight, scattering to the wind.  "I don’t think were safe here Gin, lets.....

The sound that came next was a loud snarl and a rush of padded footsteps coming towards them.  Ginny looked behind her and she saw the wolf about to lunge at her.  Hermoine turned towards Ginny, lifted her arm in front of her and created out of nothingness a ball of white energy, to Ginny it looked like a glowing snow ball. A shield came up between Ginny and the wolf then back down when the wolf seemed to hit an invisible brick wall.  Ginny was crouched on the floor and then she saw the ball of white energy go pass her and hit the wolf square on its muzzle.  It whimpered as it ran away.   Hermoine rushed to her friend.  "That was close we better get out of here."

Ginny jumped up to her feet, what a rush she thought and as they apparated away, she knew at that moment she wanted to be an Auror.  What power?  She was amazed at what her friend was capable of.  Ginny thought back to the moment when she saw the ball of energy and could have sworn she saw Hermoine hovering about a foot off the ground.  In complete awe of the book worm, she was glad Hermoine and her were so close.  She knew that Hermoine would be a great teacher.

They apparated back to the ministry and headed straight to the office.  Hermoine knew she would have some questions to answer and Ginny knew to hold them back until they were safely in their office with security charms around them.

"How in the hell did you do that???" Ginny asked still in awe.

"Well I learned it from the books in the Ministry Library.  It’s all their in black ink, only, it’s written in the ancient Rune language."  She smiled. "Any auror has the authorization to take the books out, but not many can read runes.  I don’t think these books have been checked out in centuries." she pointed to a stack of books behind the door way.

"My little book worm" Ginny laughed. "Can you teach me, I mean, do you think I can learn all of this?"

"My dear, only an Auror can perform these charms, hexes and curses without causing alarm."  Hermoine looked down at her desk and pretended skim through a page of whatever.

Come on say it. Hermoine thought to herself.

"Hermoine, I’ve made a decision, I want to be an Auror". Ginny said with voice of certainty.

"Well then we must get started on your training."  Hermoine was trying to hold back her emotions, but failed miserably.  "Ginny I am so proud of you!" she jumped up out her chair and hugged her best friend.  Hermoine's plan was in full motion.

Many questions had been answered in the following weeks.  Ginny had learned that not all Aurors attended University, many of the more famous Aurors including Mad Eye Moody had no formal training at all, they simple knew more spells and curses than everyone else. There would be several tests that she would have to take but she was sure that with Hermoines help and guidance she would not fail.  Her "assistant" title was changed to "apprentice" and she was well on her way to becoming an Auror.  What she did worry about was seeing Harry and Ron, she would be testing with the Auror University Students.  Worried?? She thought?  What the hell am I worried about?  I deserve this just as much as they do!  I’ll show them.

She also found out that Hermoine had been paired with more than 4 Auror partners, but they all had refused to work with her ever again.  The details were somewhat sketchy, but according to one of the Ministry secretaries, Langdon Myers had tried to get a little too close to Hermoine, and his mistake had left him with warts all over his body.  Another secretary from the 3rd floor offices had described Hermoine as “unstable”. Ginny didn’t believe much of the gossip going around it was so “not” Hermoine.  All she new was that soon she would be an Auror.
