Finially Chapter 16
“Dumbledore? I’d like to take the teaching position here in Hogwarts.” Hermione said to the headmaster a week later. The week had been a blur. Tom had come back, he seemed happy and he wanted to see Ron. Hermione was going to set up a meeting for Saturday, which was in two days. Nate was sweet and he knew that Hermione needed space, so he distanced himself a bit more and went on business trips every couple of days. Hermione really appreciated it and she spent the week thinking, and she decided to take the job. She needed to stay with Alli and Tom.
“But I have to go back home for two days to get everything in order.” Hermione said staring Dumbledore straight in the eyes, daring him to oppose.
“I understand. But someone will need to go for your safety.” Dumbledore said, “I’m sure Mr.Malfoy will be more than happy to accompany you.”
”Okay. Well can I go today? Because I’m sure my friend Laura is freaking out after the letter I sent her.” Hermione said while getting up.
“Okay, well you go get ready and come back here in 15 minutes. You can Floo back to your house. I’ll get Mr.Malfoy.” Dumbledore said, writing a note and hitting it with his wand. Immediately the piece of paper folded itself into a bird and flew out of the room.
Hermione walked out the door and back to her dorm. She wasn’t totally sure how she was going to tell Laura about her leaving Hall Beach, but she was sure that she had to do it in person. As she walked into the common room, she saw Tom laughing with a girl on the couch. Hermione stood still for a second to process the information when Tom noticed her.
“Oh, mom. This is Charlie. Charlie this is my mom.” Tom said, standing up.
“Nice to meet you.” Charlie said, shaking her hand.
“Nice to meet you two. So, how long have you two been friends?” Hermione asked, smiling.
“About a week now.” Tom said, “Charlie’s the one that’s been showing me around.”
“Oh that’s cool. Tom, I’m going back to Australia to pick up a couple of things, I’ll be gone for about two days and Nate’s going to look after you. Do you want me to get anything from your room while I’m there?” Hermione asked.
“Just some clothing and my skate board.” Tom said, sitting back on the couch.
“Sure, and do you know where Alli is?” Hermione asked.
“I think she said something about eating in the great hall.”
“Okay. I’ll be back before you know it. You two behave yourselves.” Hermione said, smirking slightly. She quickly ran to her room and got her purse and her wand, she then walked down to the great hall. Alli and Draco had been spending a lot of time together the past week, Hermione could tell that Alli was enjoying herself immensely, and Hermione could already tell that she was learning. She had caught Alli on more then one occasion practicing wand movements while muttering things to herself. Hermione also noticed that Draco had been in a much better mood in the past week, he smiled a lot more and he was polite to everyone.
As Hermione got into the great hall, she looked around for her daughter, who was seated at the Gryffindor table, next to a boy that looked surprisingly like Harry Potter, Hermione smiled at Harry’s son and walked towards them. They were talking to each other while eating, and what seemed like the whole great Hall was listening. As Hermione drew closer, Alli turned around and smiled at her.
“Hey mom, what’s up?” Alli asked, smiling.
“Nothing much, I’m just going to go back to Australia for a night or two and I was wondering if you needed anything.” Hermione said nodding to James.
“You’re going home? Can I come? Pleeeeaaaasssseeee?!?! All my friends think I’m like kidnapped or something! I mean, Jake told me that Sarah said that Janice told her that even Bobby was worried!” Alli said, melodramatically.
“Yeah but Bobby doesn’t worry about anyone! He’s too cool for that.” Alli said, crossing her arms.
“…fine. You can come.” Hermione said, biting her lower lip.
“Yay!” Alli said, jumping up.
“We’re leaving now though.” Hermione said before motioning her to come.
“Bye!” Alli said cheerfully to James before getting up and walking away.
Hermione and Alli walked up to Dumbledore’s office and was met by Draco.
”Hey, thanks for doing this.” Hermione said, smiling to Draco.
“No problem.” Draco said, retuning the smile before looking at Dumbledore expectantly,
“Okay, if anything goes wrong, just floo back here. I already opened your fireplace. I’ll expect you back within two days.” Dumbledore said before passing them a small sweets bowl full of floo powder. After a couple of minutes of explaining what it was to Alli, they all walked into the fire and floo-ed to Australia. As soon as they got there, Alli ran upstairs. A minute later, she came back downstairs in a white mini skirt and a bright red shirt. She was already texting her friends as she walked over to her mom.
“Hey, I’m going to go over to Jake’s.” Alli said before walking to the door.
“Okay, call me if you’re out past 10.” Hermione said, before turning to Draco.
“What are you doing? You were attacked here a week ago and you’re letting Alli go out? To a boy’s house non the less.” Draco said, clearly upset.
“Draco, calm down! Being overprotected is so unbecoming of you.” Hermione said, smirking slightly, “Alli’s known Jake since she was a baby! Her mom is my best friend, Laura! And besides, she’s sixteen and she’s popular. Of course she’s going to go out.”
“Sorry… this whole parenting this is new.” Draco said, his face breaking into a small smile, “I like your house.”
“Thanks, do you want a cup of tea? You’re going to need something with all the packing you’re going to do.” Hermione said smirking.
“What do you mean packing; I’m just here to make sure you’re not attacked.” Draco said.
“If you’re here, you help.” Hermione said before conjuring a bunch of boxes in the living room.
“Fine.” Draco said, before sighing and walking over to the bookshelf with a box.
Hermione and Draco packed up all of the downstairs for hours. It was already past seven before they stopped and Hermione got Chinese takeout. They sat on the couch eating, with Chinese boxes all over the coffee table.
“Hermione?” Draco said.
“Yeah?” Hermione asked, looking at him.
“There’s something I’ve been wondering about since you came back…”
“What is it?” Hermione asked, frowning slightly.
“…How could we not find you all of these years? I mean you didn’t even change your name. And how come letters didn’t come for Alli and Tom when they turned eleven?” Draco asked, clearly confused.
“Well, in the fourth year, when I was helping Harry with something for the Triwizard tournament, I was in the library and I found this really old book in the restricted area. I asked Dumbledore and he said I could have it. It had all these really old protective spells in it. When I came over here, I put almost every spell on myself and the kids. “ Hermione said.
“But didn’t Dumbledore know?” Draco asked.
“I think he suspected but it was a long time ago, he might of forgotten.” Hermione said, “the one thing I don’t understand is how the Deatheaters found us…”
“Well, Lucius probably had scouts everywhere just to see if you pop up and the spell might of worn off, it’s not unheard of on the older ones…” Draco said, “Where is Alli? It’s already 8:00!”
“Her curfew isn’t until 10. And she’ll call if she’s any later.” Hermione said, smiling.
As Hermione and Draco cleaned up the take away, somebody knocked on the front door and then came inside.
“Hermione!” Laura screamed, rushing up to her best friend and giving her a hug, “I can’t believe you didn’t tell me you’re back! I had to find out from Jake when I got home ten minutes ago!”
“Sorry Lil. Me and Draco spent the day packing.” Hermione said, giving her friend an apologetic smile. Laura looked around and noticed Draco for the first time. She walked over to him and shook his hand, introducing herself while blinking her eyelashes flirtatiously.
“So, How’s Scars been doing?” Hermione said, trying not to laugh at Laura.
“Why don’t you find out for yourself? Alli’s already staying at mine, so why don’t you two come for a couple of hours?” Laura said.
“Alli’s staying at yours? Since when?” Hermione said, crossing her arms but smiling.
“Since about… 10 minutes ago when she asked me. Come on Hermione! You know you want to go to Scars and have a fun night out.” Laura said smugly, knowing she’d won the fight.
”Draco? Do you want to come?” Hermione said to Draco, who was sitting on the couch watching them with a smile on his face.
“Sure.” Draco said, getting up.
“Great, I’ll meet you there in 15 minutes.” Laura said before walking out the door.
“… Hermione? What is Scars exactly?” Draco said hesitantly.
“Scars is the night club that Laura and I own… I was sure I said it at one point… maybe not.” Hermione said, smiling before excusing herself and running upstairs to change. She changed into her favourite little black dress with knee high high Heel boots. She put her hair up into a messy bun and quickly put her hair up. She then ran back downstairs to find Draco wearing black pants and a black shirt.
“Wow.” Draco said as he watched her descend the stairs.
”Haha Thanks. You all ready?” Hermione asked, picking up her car keys.
“Yeah.” Draco said before they walked down their driveway to Hermione’s Porscha. They got in and drove to the club, where they could hear music blasting from outside.
“Hey Hank, busy night?” Hermione asked the bouncer, Hank.
“Not bad for a Thursday. Just you and him?” Hank said, motioning towards Draco, who was getting many looks from the people lined up outside.
“Yeah thanks.” Hermione said before leading the way into the club, they walked to the bar and ordered drinks and waited for Laura.
“Nice place.” Draco shouted over the music.
“Thanks, it took me and Lil two years to get it up and running.” Hermione shouted back as she watched Laura make her way over.
“Hey! You guys ready to party?” Laura asked while taking Hermione’ and Draco’s hands and dragging them onto the dance floor.
