Background:   Font color:

Harry woke up with a groan; his head hurt like someone had hit him with a giant hammer. He opened his eyes only to close them fast as the sunlight hit his eyes. Shifting a little, he felt his body weak and aching. He remembered what happened last night: kissing Hermione, a light, his body feeling like it was on fire and his hand! Harry opened his eyes. Ignoring the sunlight, he looked at his hands. He brought his hand close enough to his face to see that they were normal. What happened to him last night?

He lay on his bed, thinking about what happened, but he couldn’t help but think of the kiss he had with Hermione and how they both felt the same way for each other. He loved her and she loved him back. Where was Hermione? Hermione! She was screaming last night. He remembered her going through the same pain.

Harry rolled over to his left only to feel someone next to him. Looking down, he saw a blur of brown bushy hair. “Glad you’re awake,” a familiar voice said from the end of the bed.

Harry turned his head, seeing his glasses in front of his face. He took them and put them on to see Tawny sitting on the desk chair at the end of his bed, smiling at him. Ignoring her, he looked at the body next to him and saw Hermione sleeping there. “She’s ok,” Tawny said.

“What happened last night?” he asked, sitting up to look at the girl in front of him.

“I don’t really know, but you and Hermione scared the shit out of us. You two have been asleep for about a day.”

Harry’s jaw dropped. Did he and Hermione really sleep that long? “Were my hands really on fire?”

Tawny nodded. “Yeah, yours and Hermione’s, but just different colors. Yours were red and gold, while hers were white and blue. I’ve never really seen anything like that and you both looked like you’re in a lot of pain.”

Harry nodded. “It felt like my whole body was on fire. Where is everyone?”

Tawny got off the chair, getting a tray off the desk. She brought it over to Harry and placed it on his lap. “They’re downstairs. We took turns coming up here to check on you two. It was my turn. Dumbledore said you should be waking up by this time, so he asked me to bring food with me.”

Harry looked back at Hermione. “Why is she in here with me?”

Tawny raised an eyebrow. “I thought that’d be nice to see.”

Harry looked panic. “No! That’s not what I meant.”

Tawny smirked. “I know what you meant, I was just kidding,” she said, walking back to the chair and putting it on Harry’s side. “When you passed out, you looked like you were still in pain. Hermione was still awake, just barely, but she had enough strength to move closer to you. She put her head on your shoulder before she passed out. You both look like your pain was starting to ease, but when we took Hermione away from you, you both whimpered, so we just put you in the same bed. You looked more at peace when you two were together.”

Hermione started to stir, rolling over so her shoulder rubbed against Harry’s side. Opening her eyes, she stretched and yawned before realizing that she wasn’t alone. Harry tensed; he worried about what Hermione might think.

Hermione jumped away from him, staring wide eyed at both Harry and Tawny. “Hermione, calm down,” Tawny said softly.

Hermione looked at her; her face still looked panic. “Why am I in the same bed as Harry?”

Harry placed his hand on Hermione’s. She looked over at him. “Nothing happened. Don’t you remember what happened last night?”

Hermione looked down at their hands with a troubled look on her face before looking at him again. “Yes, I do. Sorry.”

Harry smiled at her. “It’s okay.” They stared at each other for awhile, smiling.

Tawny cleared her throat to get their attention. “Dumbledore wanted to see you guys in the library once you wake up.”

They both nodded. Harry looked back at Hermione then back at Tawny. “Could you give us a few minutes?”

Tawny nodded before walking out of the room and closing the door behind her. Once the door was closed, Harry looked back at Hermione to see her looking down at her hands. An awkward silence fell over them, waking up in the same bed was something they did not plan on happening.

Harry looked over at Hermione again, taking a deep breath; he was going to be the one to back the silence “Hermione?”

Hermione body tensed, but after a moment she looked at him, “Ye…yes?”

Harry shifted in his spot uncomfortably “what…what happened last night? I mean did you feel the same thing I did?”

Hermione looked puzzled “What did you feel?”

Harry shrugged “I can’t really describe it. I felt this power run through me, I felt happy, and what I can guess love.”

Hermione nodded “I felt that too. It was after you said you love me that this power ran through me and then when we were kissing I felt my body start to feel like it was burning.”

Nodding Harry spoke “yeah, that’s how I felt and then our hands were on fire. But before my hands caught on fire I felt so much love, felt like I could never be away from you that I would die without you.”
“I felt that too, I still feel that if I stay away from you I would fall apart.”

Harry smiled “I love you,” and leaned over capturing Hermione’s lips with his.

“I love you too” Hermione murmured onto his lips and started to kiss him back.

Harry moved closer to her to deepen the kiss only to feel something in his back pocket. Pulling away from the kiss, he pulled out the envelope that Dumbledore gave to him.

Hermione looked at him for a moment after he broke the kiss to see the envelope that he pulled out. “Oh, I forgot about the Hogwarts letters Dumbledore gave us yesterday,” she moved over to get the same letter out of her pocket. “I think we should open it. From there, we could figure out if we should go back or not.” Harry nodded in agreement and together they opened their letters. Harry took his letter out the envelope and started reading:

Dear Mr. Potter,

We are pleased to inform you that you have been chosen as Hogwarts’ new Head Boy. As a Head, you will have a common room that you will share with the Head Girl. Please see the Headmaster after the welcoming feast to receive the password and to discuss your duties.

Yours sincerely,
Minerva McGonagall
Deputy Headmistress

Harry just finished the letter when something fell out from the envelope. Looking down, he saw a golden badge with a big H in the middle. He picked it up only to hear Hermione squeal, “you’re Head Boy! I’m Head Girl!” Hermione jumped onto his lap and gave him a crushing hug. She pulled away, beaming at him. “This is great, Harry! We’ll have our own common room, away from everyone! We could look up some more things about Horcruxes without anyone bugging us!” Her face fell when she saw Harry deep in thought. “You are planning on us going back, aren’t you?”

Harry looked over at her. “I think we should go back, I’m just shocked that Dumbledore picked me of all people. I was sure Ron would have gotten it. I wasn’t even a Prefect.”

Hermione hugged him again. “Harry, you would make a great Head Boy, I know that, but let’s talk about this later. I’m sure Dumbledore is still waiting for us.”

Harry nodded. He and Hermione left the room and walked to the library where Dumbledore, Ron, Draco and Tawny were waiting for them.

“Harry, Hermione, glad you could join us. Please sit down, then I could answer the questions you might have” said Dumbledore from behind the desk.

Harry and Hermione took a seat next to Tawny. She smiled at them before putting her attention on Dumbledore.

“Now, as you know Harry and Hermione went through something very interesting last night,” he paused, waiting for everyone to nod before continuing, “what happened was Harry’s and Hermione’s true powers were rising from inside of them.”

“WHAT?” everyone shouted at once, except Tawny. Harry was the first to speak after the outburst. “Sir, what do you mean by Hermione’s true power and mine?”

Dumbledore nodded, “you see, Harry, you are the heir of Gryffindor while Hermione is the heir of Ravenclaw.”

Both Harry and Hermione looked at their headmaster with disbeliefs. “Professor, how is that possible?” Harry asked.

Dumbledore smiled, “your ancestor was Godric Gryffindor, from your father’s side of the family. The reason why your last name is Potter was to hide Gryffindor’s name. You see, when Godric defeated Salazar, Salazar said that he would get his revenge, so Godric hid the name to protect his family by taking his wife’s name.”

Harry nodded in understanding. “I still can’t believe I’m the heir of Gryffindor.” A beaming smile fell on Harry’s lips as he thought of him being related to one of the most powerful wizards since Merlin. Then his smile fell. “Does that mean that Gryffindor had fire powers?”

Dumbledore nodded. “Yes, he and Rowena Ravenclaw had the ability to use fire.” He looked over at Hermione who was deep in thought. “Is there something on your mind, Miss Granger?”

Hermione looked up into the old man’s blue eyes. “Yes, Sir. How can I be the heir of Ravenclaw? I’m a Muggle-born.”

Dumbledore nodded. “Yes, you are. The reason for that is the fact that Rowena married a muggle. I’m guessing the magic of the family died over the years until you were born to carry on the power Rowena Ravenclaw had. It seemed that you were destined to be a witch and to have this power to help Harry stop Lord Voldemort.”

Hermione smiled and looked over at Harry who took her hand in his and gave it a squeeze. “I can’t believe it,” Ron blurted out, “I am the best friend of the two heirs of Gryffindor and Ravenclaw.” He started smiling.

Dumbledore chuckled, “Oh, but Mr. Weasley, Mr. Malfoy you too are heirs of great wizards.” Both Ron and Draco looked at Dumbledore with shock. “Back during the war of the founders, there were knights. These knights were protectors of Hogwarts.”

Ron was beaming. “My ancestors were knights?!” Everyone but Draco laughed at him, Draco looked troubled.

“How?” he mumbled.

“Well, Mr. Malfoy, what I learned from the day you saved me was that you have your grandmother’s heart from your mother side of the family.” Dumbledore gave him a wise smile that held the twinkle in his eyes.

Draco still didn’t look convinced. “Draco, your mother wasn’t always like how she is today. She came to Hogwarts with a great heart, but when she met your father, she changed to impress him. Your mother was part of a Slytherin family that was against Salazar and became knights of Hogwarts.”

Finally Draco smiled. Dumbledore nodded and stood up. In his hand were three swords and a bow and arrow. Placing them back on the desk, he picked up the one Harry knew was Gryffindor’s. “Harry, this is yours,” he said, handing over the sword to him.

Harry took it with a proud smile on his face. He looked at it, for the first time truly realizing that he was the heir of Gryffindor and was to defeat Voldemort with it.

Dumbledore picked up another sword. “Mr. Weasley, I believe this belongs to you,” he handed Ron the sword. Ron looked at it. On the handle was the symbol of Hogwarts and a name was written on the blade. Ron raised an eyebrow.

“Arthur Weasley?” he mumbled.

“Yes, your father was named after the great wizard that fought alongside Godric Gryffindor,” said Dumbledore. He lifted the last sword and handed it to Draco. Again the sword had the symbol of Hogwarts on it, but on the blade it read ‘Allard Hawkins.’ Draco looked confused.

“Allard Hawkins?”

“He is from your grandmother’s side, not the Blacks,” was all Dumbledore said. He turned to Hermione with a smile before giving her the bow.

Hermione beamed as she looked at the bow that was painted silver with a blue handle in the middle of the bow. Written on both sides was ‘Rowena Ravenclaw’ with sapphires in the front of it. The bag that held the arrow had a giant, blue eagle with silver wings and beak and silver letters that read ‘Ravenclaw’.

Harry smiled at his friend and then looked over at Tawny, who was smiling as well, before he turned back to his headmaster. “Sir, what about our powers? Are you going to start training us?”

“No, Harry, that is Tawny’s job,” said Dumbledore.

“What?!” Tawny yelled, jumping out of her seat. “Professor, I can’t train them. I don’t know how!”
“Yes, you can. You know how to make them concentrate on their powers. From there they can do it on their own.” He could see that she still believed that she couldn’t train them. “I know you can do it, Tawny. I have talked to your previous headmaster and he said you have mastered Animagi. That takes a lot of concentration, so I believe you can do it.”

Tawny started to argue but when she looked at Harry and Hermione, she could see the plea in their eyes. “Alright I will, but it’s going to take a lot of work. Right after training, you will stay and work on your powers.” After seeing them both nodded, Tawny turned back to Dumbledore. “We are starting their training tomorrow at six a.m, that goes for Ron as well.” She turned to Ron on the last part.

Ron groaned, “no one gets up at that time!”

Dumbledore chuckled before asking, “is there anything else you wanted to talk about?”

Harry nodded. “Yes, sir, there is. I was hoping that we could go back to Hogwarts?” In the corner of his eye, Harry saw both Ron and Hermione beaming, which only made him smile.
“Of course, Harry. I am assuming that you have opened your letter?” Harry nodded.

“Why did you pick me though, sir? I know what you said in the letter, but why me?”

“Because Harry, besides the fact that you need your own common room to study, I also believe you would make a great Head Boy as I said in the letter.”

Ron looked at him friend, smiling. “That’s great, mate. I knew you would get it.”

Harry looked at Ron, surprised. “Ron, you wanted me to get Head Boy?”

Ron only nodded. “Of course, Harry. I know if had gotten Head Boy I wouldn’t be that good and I didn’t want the responsibility, so I talked to Dumbledore and he agreed with me.”

Harry got up from his seat and went over to hug his best friend. “Thanks mate,” he said after pulling away.

Ron hit him on the shoulder. “No problem, but you have to promise me that you will take care of Hermione for me or I’ll hex you.”

Hermione squealed before running up to Ron and giving him a hug. “Ron, you knew about Harry and me?”

“Yeah, I kind of figured it out last night when you two passed out. Its okay, Hermione, I’m not mad. I wasn’t even that night at Harry’s birthday party. I was just shocked and all that stuff,” he said.

Hermione only hugged him again. “I love you, Ron, as a brother I never had,” she said once she pulled away. She then walked over to Harry who wrapped his arm around Hermione’s waist and pulled her closer to kiss her on top of her head.

Tawny sat behind them as she watched the three friends smiling at each other. She also watched as Draco walked out of the room, smiling at them. She knew where he was going and one day he was going to have to tell everyone about him and Ginny.

“Ron, Tawny,” Dumbledore said, getting their attention before he continued, “I have gotten you two your own separate rooms that are connected to the Heads’ common room. That way you will be able to work together.” Tawny and Ron nodded.

“Sir, at Hogwarts, where would I be able to train them?” Tawny asked.

“You will train them in the Room of Requirements and in the Defense Against the Dark Arts room where your new teacher, Professor Lupin, will be teaching you.”

“Remus will be teaching again?” Harry asked. He smiled when he saw Dumbledore nod.
“Now, if that’s all we’re going to talk about then you may leave. I believe that Molly should be done with dinner by now.” Everyone agreed and left the library to go to the kitchen where indeed dinner was ready.

During dinner, everyone was laughing and having a good time. Harry had his arm around Hermione’s shoulder as they ate and talked while Ron’s arm was around Luna. The only person who was not having a good time, even when her secret boyfriend was sitting next to her, was Ginny. She couldn’t understand why everyone was not mad at Tawny or why they trusted her with their training.

“You alright, love?” Draco whispered into her ear when Ron was not looking.

“No I can’t believe everyone trusts that Parker girl. I know what I heard when I walked in on her. She can’t be trusted.”

Draco put his hand on her shoulder, no longer caring if anyone saw them. “Gin, I was the same way, but everyone trusts me. Why can’t you trust her?”

“Because, Draco, there’s something about her that I don’t like. Doesn’t she look too much like Harry and Hermione? Or the fact that she quiet. It feels like she’s hiding something,” said Ginny, looking at Draco.

Draco shrugged. “Maybe when she trusts you, she will tell you what she’s hiding. Just get to know her and see what happens.”

Ginny smiled at her boyfriend, “when did you get so wise?”

Draco only shrugged and lean in to kiss her. “Hey! What are you bloody doing with my sister?” Ron roared.

Draco and Ginny pulled apart. They had momentarily forgotten that everyone was there. Both Harry and Hermione looked shocked, but were smiling, while the Weasleys, Remus, Tonks and Tawny merely looked shocked, but Ron was the one person they were looking at. His face was as red as his hair. “Ginny, how could you kiss Malfoy?!”

“Ron, he’s changed, you know that!” Ginny yelled.

“I don’t care. I am not going to let you go off snogging him! I don’t trust him!”

Ginny stood up from her seat, glaring at her brother. “Well, I don’t trust Tawny! I can’t believe you three trust her! She’s hiding something and I’m going to find out!” she screamed before storming off up stair. There was a stunned silence in the kitchen before Draco and Ron left their seats and ran after her.
