"What should we do?" Peter asked everyone.
"I don't know if we're supposed to fight yet," Sirius said.
"But the teachers are out numbered," James said.
"Expelliarmus!" someone shouted.
It was Lily.
"I guess we're fighting now," Shay said and pulled out her wand.
There were 15 to 20 Death Eaters and only about 5 teachers, but with the extra seven, it made it almost fair.
Hogsmeade was pure chaos. There were spells flying everywhere, kids diving into stores for shelter. But the worse was that there were bodies on the ground. Bodies of Hogwarts students. This terrified the seven young wizards that were fighting, but they weren't going to let anymore hit the ground. And the Death Eaters expected less of a resistance, so they were a little discombobulated.
"Calhoun, long time, no see," a smooth, evil voice came from behind the mask of the man in front of her.
"And I was trying to keep it that way Lucius, but since you guys decided to crash my Hogsmeade trip, I have to hex you into oblivion. Brings back good memories," Shay said and dodged a spell.
"You're fighting for the wrong side, you know. Your sister should be around here somewhere."
"And your balls should be somewhere around here. Oh wait, I forgot Voldemort keeps them in his pocket."
Shay would have loved to see his face.
"The Dark Lord was just talking about you. He said you will do great things for him. Beyond what you can imagine."
Shay's face dropped and a wave of rage went through her eyes. She would never do anything for Voldemort.
"Shay watch out!" she heard Sirius yell.
She turned and saw another Death Eater with his wand pointed at her.
"Perfectus Totalus!" she yelled and the Death Eater went rigid.
She went to turn her attention back to Lucius but was immediately blasted back by him. In a split second she slammed against a wall and felt a surge of pain go through her body. But before she went unconscious, she saw Dumbledore appear and knew it was going to turn out ok.
"Ugh…where am I?" Shay asked as she opened her eyes.
"You're in the infirmary," Madame Pomfrey said to her.
"So, I'm alive?" Shay asked jokingly.
"Yes, dear. I don't know what would happen if we lost more," Madame said.
"Lost more? What do you mean?" Shay asked and sat up.
That same surge of pain came through her body and she yelled out in pain.
"Oh, dear. Your back isn't quite healed yet. You almost broke it. I don't know what got into you kids, jumping in that fight. You all are crazy if you ask me."
"What was I supposed to do? Watch people get hurt. It's my duty as a witch and human being to help," Shay said and did a little salute.
Her body was too sore to move properly.
"You got that right!" said a voice from the bed next to her.
She looked and saw James sitting there. His arms were all scratched up, but other wise he looked fine.
"What happened to you?" Shay asked.
"Went through a glass window, but I used a Death Eater as a cushion, so it wasn't too bad," James said.
Shay looked around and saw all her friends and many other students. She had never seen the infirmary so crowded before. It was some what terrifying.
"Madame Pomfrey gave them all sleeping potions," James said noticing Shay’s concern for their friends.
"Are they ok though?" Shay asked.
"Yea, nothing to serious. You probably have the worst injury. Scared us all when you hit that wall. Sirius went after Lucius. I thought he was going to kill Lucius or Lucius was going to kill him."
"I scared myself. James, did um…anyone, you know…die?" Shay asked quietly.
"I don't know. Dumbledore should be in here soon. But there were a lot of bodies all over."
They rested for a while waiting for the others to wake up. Shay was drifting back to sleep when Dumbledore came in.
"How are you two feeling?"
"Pretty good, except for the unbearable pain I get when I move," Shay said a little more sarcastically then she attended.
"I am truly sorry for that Miss Calhoun, but I came here to thank you all, but I see you two are the only awake."
"No problem Professor. We did what we felt was right," James said.
"And the professors and students are grateful" Dumbledore said.
"Professor, were there any fatalities?" Shay asked.
A look of sadness came onto his face.
"There were three. 5th year Ravenclaw Jason Smitz, 3rd year Hufflepuff Margaret Mueller, and 1st year Gryffindor Amerie Nickelson. "
Shay felt like she just got slapped in the face. Amerie was only 11 years old and now she was dead. Shay had just talked to her a couple days prior. She was finally making friends and having fun at Hogwarts and now she was dead. She was gone forever.
"Professor, do you know what her parents are?" Shay asked quietly.
"I have some ideas."
"She told me herself," Shay said, tears forming in her eyes.
“It was a terrible thing that happened. It seems to be an occurring theme these days. Many good and innocent people are dying because of a terrible uprising. I should have known that Hogsmeade may have been dangerous. So this incident I deem my fault,” Dumbledore explained and Shay and James were silent.
"Miss Calhoun, can I talk to you in private?" Dumbledore asked.
"Yes," Shay said and pulled herself together before she could start to cry.
"Sorry Mr. Potter, we'll be done in a few minutes."
James nodded his head. Dumbledore shut the hangings and put a silencing charm around the bed.
"Shay, have you been feeling sick lately?" Dumbledore asked.
"I've actually felt really good the past month, after I got over the depression and all. Why do you ask?" Shay asked, still shocked about the news she just received.
"Well, Madame Pomfrey found something when she was checking for internal bleeding."
"It's nothing to serious, is it?" Shay asked, looking and feeling very concerned.
"Shay, you are pregnant."
