“Oh nothing,” Hermione replied. “Guess who my last patient was,” Hermione said in an un-interested tone.
“Who?” Ginny asked taking a seat in the sofa that was placed in Hermione’s fairly large office.
“Draco Malfoy,” Hermione answered rolling her eyes. Ginny’s face became pale and her eyes went wide.
“What’s wrong Ginny?” Hermione asked. Ginny suddenly panicked when she heard the name Draco Malfoy because somehow, she knew that he’d be a part of Hermione’s life again very soon. It wasn’t that she didn’t want Hermione to be with Draco, but it was to consequences she was afraid of. Ginny only ever wanted her best friend to be happy and she knew that it couldn’t ever happen without Draco.
“Ginny?” Hermione asked again. “Are you alright?” Ginny straightened up and told Hermione she was alright. She left Hermione there went to a piece of paper hanging by Hermione’s office.
Ginny scanned the sheet and her name landed on ‘Draco Malfoy room 3447’. She walked over to the lift and went to the next floor turning many turns and walking towards the 3,000’s hallway. “3445, 3446, 3447” Ginny entered the room with Draco’s name on it and she found him sitting up in his bed shirtless with a bandage wrapped around his bare stomach. He was reading the Daily prophet and was surprised to see Ginny come inside his room.
“You work here too?” He asked her with a cold look on his face.
“Some things don’t really change do they,” She said. Ginny walked over and sat on the stool near the window. Draco had a small private room that had a TV, different assortments of magazines and a few books lying here and there. “So what happened to you anyway,” Ginny asked him.
“What are you,” Draco said. “The daily prophet?”
“Just curious Malfoy,” Ginny snapped.
“With that attitude of yours,” Draco said. “What makes you think I’ll tell you?”
Ginny took a look at his masculine form and saw something glistening hanging around his neck. It was the heart locket that held Hermione’s memories, it held her heart. She remembered back then when Hermione showed her the beautiful locket that Draco has bought her. Hermione explained everything to Ginny and said that if her memories ever came back out again, she’d have her heart back.
“What are you staring at Weasley,” Draco asked Ginny when he saw her staring at his chest.
“That locket,” Ginny said pointing at it. “Do you know where you got it?”
Draco looked down at his chest and the locket laid there and he could hear the slightest thump as if there was a pulse on it. “No,” He answered honestly. “One morning in 7th year I woke up with it around my neck,”
“If you don’t know where you got it, they how come you don’t take it off?” Ginny asked.
“It’s just something I’m used to carrying around with me,” Draco answered. “Why are you so interested with my locket anyway?”
“Why did you get hurt like that?” She asked him ignoring his question. Draco didn’t answer her and Ginny stood up knowing that it was a bad idea to even come here in the first place.
“I’m a spy for the order,” He said quietly. “Voldemort found out, and now he’s coming after me,”
“So he did this to you?” Ginny asked him from where he was standing.
“Yes,” Draco answered. “I was so curious about my life that I got carried away and didn’t even understand my job,”
“Your life?” Ginny asked sitting back down on the stool she sat on.
“There are parts of my past missing,” Draco said. “Big parts that I need to know about,”
Ginny was astonished. Did he know? “Mostly around my 7th year,” He said. “As days went by, the memories slowly faded and what was left of it- I didn’t understand. And this locket it’s like it has a heart it in or something. It hasn’t stopped moving since I came here,”
“Your memories faded away?” Ginny asked. Draco nodded.
Ginny rushed to the door. “I have to go,” And with that she was gone. Draco wondered what all that was about.
Ginny ran to her office and took out a piece of parchment scribbling furiously on it.
The spell didn’t work, Draco’s suspicious, meet me in the café 12 sharp.
She wrote the name Blaise Zabini in the front of the envelope and gave it to her owl to deliver. She sat down on her chair, propped her elbows up on her table and put her face in her hands. “This is all going wrong,” Ginny whispered.
Hermione had coffee in her hand and she walked her usual route to St. Mungo’s. A different large shoulder bag hung on her shoulder as she wore a long jacket with her hair in a somewhat messy bun letting some curls fall to her face. It was a new day, and she’d have to go to Harry’s tonight for James’ party.
Hermione was scanning the stack of papers that were given to her by Jennifer this morning. She just took her pen and started signing everything ad placed in in a box next to her table. She then went on reading the main she received that was on the other side of the table.
“Hermione?” Jennifer said when she came in her office. “You’re needed by a patient,”
“Who?,” Hermione asked her.
“Er, he’s in room 3447,” Jennifer replied after looking down at the paper in her hand.
That’s Malfoys room. Hermione thought. “Thanks Jennifer,” Hermione stood up and walked over to the door making her way to the lift to go onto the next floor. She went around the corner and looked for the room 3447.When she entered it, she found Malfoy leaning on his elbow with his free arm across his stomach and pain contorted his face.
“What happened?” Hermione asked when she walked towards him. Draco looked up and glared at her.
“I asked for a healer,” He said. “Not a mudblood,” Being used with that fact of being called a mudblood, Hermione just frowned down at him with hatred.
“Fine, you’ll get a nurse,” She said walking to the door. “You’ll have to wait about 2 hours,” She in formed him. “Everyone else has patients to tend to,” Draco glared at her and Hermione left his room closing the door behind her. “He hasn’t even changed a bit,” She muttered to herself. Before she turned the corner to get on the lift back to her office, she heard a loud cry followed by more screams.
Walking quickly Hermione made her way back down the hall and into Draco’s room. She found him holding his stomach his face pressed against his pillow and he was screaming in pain. “What in Merlin’s name happened to you?” Hermione asked when she saw blood seeping through the bandage. Draco didn’t answer, but instead he gave a howl of pain and pressed his face into the pillow more. Seeing that he was in a great deal of pain, she walked to the cabinet in his room and took out a potion that was blood red. She tried to turn him over but he just shrugged her off and continued screaming from pain.
“Malfoy, if you want the pain to go away you have to drink this,” Hermione told him trying to move his face so he would be able to drink the potion. Draco just shrugged her away again and clutched his stomach harder. The bandage that was around his body was already full of blood and it was seeping into the sheets now. “Malfoy,” Hermione said sternly. “Malfoy!” There were more screams coming from the man thrashing around in front of her. Hermione turned his body forcefully and shoved the potion down his throat. “Better now?”
In a few moments, Malfoy stop thrashing around, and he rested on his bed emotionless. Hermione walked to the cabinet and took out another potion along with thick bandages. Not saying a word, she handed him another red potion and instructed him to drink it. Draco glared at her, but took the potion in his hands weakly and brought it to his lips swallowing every bit of it. He handed the bottle back to her and she set it down on the side table next to the bed. “Sit up,” She ordered.
“Why,” He rasped weakly.
“So I can change your bandages,” Hermione replied. Draco sat up a little and propped himself up on his elbows. Slowly, he sat up enough for Hermione to be able to change his bandages. She took her wand out and his blood covered bandages disappeared leaving more blood to come out. “How did you cut open again?” She asked frowning down at his stomach. Draco didn’t answer her and he just looked away while Hermione cleaned his cut with her wand. “It’s not healing,” She said not believe it. “How did you get this?” She asked him.
“Non of your business Granger,” Draco said.
“Actually, it is if you want it to be healed,” Hermione snapped.
“Voldemort did it,” Draco replied.
“What?” Hermione asked.
“Voldemort,” Draco said as if she was stupid. “I was a spy for the order and he found out,”
“There’s no magical cure for this,” Hermione said. She walked over to the cabinet and took out a needle with thick thread, a cotton ball and a bottle with a red cross on it. She placed the things on the table and took the bottle along with the cotton ball and put some of the clear liquid on the cotton. “You can lie down for now,” Draco laid back down slowly and Hermione sat on the edge of his bed with the cotton over his stomach. She started at the top of his cut and was slowly dabbing around it. She could see Draco’s face distorted with pain.
“Careful with that Granger!” Draco snapped. Hermione glared up at her patient and pressed the wet cotton ball harder on his cut and Draco hissed loudly.
“Careful enough for you?” She asked coldly. She continued cleaning his long cut slowly so she won’t hurt him no matter how much she wanted to. Then she took the needle and inserted the thread on it making a knot on the end. From seeing the needle, Draco immediately sat up hissing with the pain that he felt on his stomach and glared at Hermione’s confused face.
“What are you going to do, sow my skin together?” Draco asked looking at the large needle in her hand.
“Yes, now lay back down,” Hermione said pushing him back down on the bed. Starting at the top again, she took his skin and stuck the needle in it earning a cry from Malfoy. She continued this as the thread and came through his skin every time she pulled it. Malfoy was gripping the sheets from the pain and his eyes were shut tight. “Relax Malfoy, I’m almost done,” She said softly. When she was done, she tied the thread together and took out ointment and dabbed it against the large cut. “Now sit up,” She said.
Draco tried to sit up, but the excruciating pain in his stomach was unbearable and couldn’t even move. Hermione sighed and placed her hand on his back and helped him up. “Can u stay like that?” She asked him when he was sitting up fully.
“No,” He said weakly. His body was inconceivably weak and he couldn’t even move his arm and sleep was overcoming him. Thinking of no other way, Hermione sat behind Malfoy and she let him lean on me as she bandaged is wound that was still bleeding lightly. Her arms wound around his stomach many times as she wound the bandage around him and Draco could feel her heavy breathing on his neck.
When the roll of bandage was done, Hermione tied the two ends together and noticed that Malfoy fell asleep. She put both her hands on his back and got off the bed, placing him back down adjusting his body so he was comfortably sleeping. She checked his bandage to make sure it was put on properly and just when she was about to turn back around to fix the mess on the table, she saw the glistening locket on his neck. It was identical to hers, and had the same exact carvings and everything. Sitting back down on the edge of the bed, she bent down and examined the locket. Once her skin touched the cold gold locket, the lock snapped open as if it wanted Hermione to open it. Her brows knitted in confusion, and slowly she placed her thumb over the opening and slowly, it opened revealing glowing white threads inside instead of pictures. As she breathed in, a single thread started floating towards her and it entered her mouth.
Frightened and bemused, she snapped the locket shut and locked it backing away from Malfoy who was still sleeping soundly. The memory was plastered in her mind as if it was glued there. It was one with her and Malfoy.
They were sitting together in the heads common room, with Hermione in between his legs, leaning against his chest. Draco had his arms wrapped around her stomach and his other hand was stroking her hair lovingly. The fire was burning and they were sitting right in front of it leaning against the couch.
A happy smile formed on Draco’s face as he kissed her forehead, and wound both his hands tighter around Hermione’s body. Her hands rested on his arms and her eyes were closed but she had a smile playing on her lips. “I love you,” Draco whispered in her ear and pressed his cheek against her head.
“I love you too,” Hermione replied.
Hermione was extremely mystified with the vision that just came into her mind. She recognized the place, but she knew that it never happened. She exited his room and walked quickly to the lift and into her own office.
There were more papers stacked on her desk than before, and a box of potions was sitting in front of her table. Collapsing on the couch, she closed her eyes recalling the vision that entered her mind a few minutes ago. It was with her and Malfoy, it was something that she was positive never happened. Hermione couldn’t help notice that as that memory came inside her, the one with her and Ron disappeared. “What’s going on,” She breathed.
“Hermione?” Jennifer knocked on her door.
“Yes Jen?” Hermione replied.
“You have a meeting in 10 minutes,” Jennifer said from the other side. Hermione got up and straightened herself out before opening the door.
“Thanks,” Hermione said.
“What happened?” Blaise asked as soon as Ginny crossed the street. Ginny sat down across from Blaise and ordered a mocha then started talking.
“Malfoy was caught,” Ginny said. “Voldemort found out he was a spy for the order and well, he was attacked,” She started. “Then he told me that parts of his life were missing and the other doesn’t make sense,” Ginny continued after taking a sip of the mocha that was given to her. “He said it was mostly around his 7th year.
“The spell didn’t work Blaise,” Ginny finished. “He said his memories were fading and it leaves a blank space. He knows, and he wants to find out,” Blaise put his head in his hand and massaged his temple. “What’s worse is that he’s Hermione’s patient,”
“Ginny,” Blaise said. “That’s the thing. They were never supposed to meet again after graduation. That’s when the spell was 100% positive,”
“They never met before this,” Ginny explained. “The memories faded before this ever happened,”
“What are we going to do then?” He asked.
“Can’t you just put the spell on them again?” She asked.
“That spell was only supposed to be used once each person,” Blaise said. “It would be dangerous to use it again,”
“Then what are we going to do?” She asked frantically. “Just let them get together again and get them in even more danger? Voldemort is already after Draco,” Ginny said. “What would happen if Lucius would be after him again?”
“I don’t know Ginny,” Blaise said shaking his head. “I don’t know,”
