Deciding it was best to break the news of Ginny’s pregnancy to the rest of the family in person, the Potter family waited anxiously for Sunday to arrive so that they could tell the entire family all at once.
However upon arriving at The Burrow, before Ginny and Harry had a chance to open their mouths, even in greeting, James had rushed straight to where his grandmother was busy in the kitchen and blurted out,
“Guess what grandma Weezy, mummy’s having a baby! And guess where it is. In mummy's tummy!" He exclaimed happily, Mrs. Weasley positively beamed before glancing at her daughter for confirmation, which upon receiving she took as her cue to call upon every owl within the household to send news to each and every relative, as well as dwindling down their supply of Floo Powder by sticking her head into the grate in order to tell the other members of the family she had been able to owl immediately.
“Why dear, this is…marvelous. Isn’t it Arthur?” She said with glee, “This calls for a celebration.” She grinned broadly, reaching for the pot of Floo powder once more. However she need not of bothered as a series of pops and the sudden roar of emerald fire in the grate marked the arrival of each of the Weasley children and grandchildren.
Ron and Hermione stepped out of the fireplace first, Ron carrying their sleeping daughter Rose in his arms, her head resting against his shoulder.
They had barely dusted themselves off when the fire roared once more and out stepped Bill and Fleur,
“’ow I hate that way of traveling, zee soot gets everywhere.” She groaned as she dusted herself off. Their eight year old daughter Victoire emerged from behind her parents. Two more heads popped out from behind their mother, the couples four year old twins, Elliott and Russell both of which sported proud heads of the famous trade mark Weasley red hair, the only two of Bill and Fleurs four children to do so. Bill like Ron was carrying their one year old daughter, Eleanor-Gabrielle. However unlike her cousin Eleanor was wide awake, her eyes observing her surroundings.
“I take it you got mums owl?” Ginny asked her two brothers who nodded, Bill handed Eleanor over to his wife, so that he could pull his sister in for a hug.
“Congratulations Ginny. You’ll never guess what.” Hermione said a smile playing on her lips as she unfastened her Muggle jacket. Ginny’s eyes widened as a thought dawned on her, she allowed her eyes to run down to Hermione’s stomach.
“Don’t tell me you’re…” Hermione cut her off, she nodded,
“I’m pregnant too.” She squealed and the two women pulled each other into an emotional embrace. Harry looked over at Ron who grinned manically,
“Who would have guessed, us two, dads.” Ron said happily, heading into the living room, the sleeping Rose still cradled in his arms. Gently he lay her down on the sofa, her bushy brown hair splayed out over the faded fabric.
A small girl, aged no more than five walked casually into the room, her face hidden behind a large book. Just visible above the books rim were her long vivid red locks and the rims of glasses.
Melanie Weasley, Percy’s daughter.
“Reading Hogwarts a History already. We’re so proud of her.” They heard Percy’s wife, Sophia, tell somebody, presumably Mrs. Weasley. Harry and Ron left the living room to greet the rest of the guests, Ron darted a look back at his peacefully slumbering daughter, a look of sheer joy in his eyes as he watched her sleep.
George was next to arrive, with his wife Alicia Weasley nee Spinnet and their three year old son Fred, named in memory of George’s late twin brother Fred who had been killed during the final battle with the dark lord Voldemort ten years before.
“Where’s Charlie?” Asked Mrs. Weasley as she mentally counted each of her children, noting that he was the only one absent. The crowd shrugged. She turned to face Ginny, who was scanning each of her relatives looking for her son, little Albus squirmed in his mothers arms.
“James is in the garden with your father dear.” Mrs. Weasley said to her daughter who relaxed with relief, on hearing his grandmothers words Fred rushed off to play with his cousin. Victoire headed for the living room, her silvery blonde hair flowing like water behind her.
As each of the children wandered off to entertain themselves, with the exception of Albus who was perched at his fathers feet playing with his favourite stuffed owl, the adults, also with the exception of Mr. Weasley who was still in the garden watching over the more adventurous of his grandkids and Percy who was laying down the ground rules of playing broomstick tag in the house, found themselves crammed around the kitchen table.
“This is wonderful, two of my daughters expecting.” Mrs. Weasley said animatedly, Hermione flushed, she had always relished in the fact that Mrs. Weasley didn’t just see her as her daughter in law but as an actual daughter. “Just think they will be in the same year at Hogwarts.” She said distantly.
“As will Albus and Rose.” Ron inquired.
“And James and Fred.” George quipped and their mother nodded absently,
“Yes I suppose they will. That will be…”
“Amusing, just think of the owls home, poor Hogwarts won’t know what’s hit it. A Weasley in every year.” Came a voice from the doorway and Charlie stepped into the already packed kitchen his wife behind him. Two girls trailed in timidly behind their parents. If it hadn’t been for the vivid red hair they would not have been visible to the kitchens occupants. Charlie’s identical twin daughters, Zoë and Lorna.
“I don’t see why you couldn’t have given them lovely names like…”
“Percival and Ginevra.” He interrupted jokingly and his mother scowled,
“I was just saying.” She muttered before turning her attention back to the potatoes that were busy peeling themselves.
“Congratulations on the baby little sis.” Charlie said hugging Ginny. The twins wandered off to find their cousins and conversation about the two expectancies erupted in the kitchen.
Dinner passed, both noisy and messy, with twelve children, two of which were scarcely two years old and eleven adults, hardly made for a peaceful meal. But nobody sat around the table in the garden of The Burrow that evening cared, it was entertaining at least. As always Mrs. Weasley’s cooking was superb,
“Only gets better wit age mum.” George complimented and the entire table began to laugh.
The sun begun to droop over the distant hills and each of the parents watched elatedly as their children crawled (Rose and Albus) and ran after the garden gnomes.
Indeed the Weasley-Potter bunch were a, though large and expanding, extremely happy family.
Authors note- I loved trying to find names for each of the children in this fic was tremendous fun
The thing that amused me was that the name Russell is not only French but also means red-head which made me laugh. Also that Sophia means wisdom whcih i found fitting as Percy, though a pompous idiot is smart.
i know the names are not canon but i really dont want to change them. i wrote this before JK Rowling had released the official names of the Weasley clan and decided just to keep the names i chose.
