Never Let Me Go: Ron/Hermione
Post Deathly Hallows
This time, This place ; misused, Mistakes
Too long too late; who was I to make you wait
Just one chance; just one breath
Just in case there's just one left
It was many hours after Harry Potter left Ron and Hermione. The survivors were gathered at the Burrow where Molly had set up a wake for those who had not survived, including Fred, Tonks, Lupin, and Mad-Eye. Hermione had seen Ron leave the house and she left the dinner table minutes later to follow him. On the way out, she saw George in the corner of the living room with Luna Lovegood, who was comforting him. Teddy Lupid seemed to be with Harry, and Harry was holding him in a way one was not supposed to hold a baby. Hermione decided she would teach him later.
Ginny was no where to be found and Mr. Weasley was with Molly, both looked a bit out of it. But that was expected. Percy was talking quietly in the corners with Bill and Fleur was going around offering muffins and pancakes to everyone.
The Burrow was packed. Neville and his grandmother were listening to the radio.
She had changed from her bloody clothes into a sweater and a pair of comfortable jeans. Her head was beginning to hurt, but there was something she needed to do before going to bed. She walked out the door onto the empty space behind the shed where she could see Ron’s fiery red hair whipping in the wind. He looked very tall and dark in the shadows of early morning. The dull pain in the back of her head subsided substantially.
Hands in her pockets, she quietly whispered, “Hey, Ron.”
He turned around with the sweetest smile on his face. It seemed to melt her heart. “Hi.”
They both blushed slightly and looked away for a second, before returning their gazes back at each other. It wasn't exactly awkward, but they both knew that something was different. The death of their loved ones was still heavy in the air, and would remain so for a long time.
The wind was blowing hard, but it felt nice. The moon was shining on the world; it was a clear night. The sun was beginning to peek out.
People were doing fireworks from far way, but the sound could be heard miles away.
Ron gently took a hold of a loose lock of Hermione’s hair and wound it around his finger. “I always loved your hair. It was the only thing wild about you, only thing that was out of control,” he whispered, his voice sounding different than usual. His eyes were different too. The brown color seemed deeper than usual, and there was a line between his eyebrows that seemed to not disappear.
“About that kiss today, Ron..” she began, but was cut off.
“I meant it,” he said softly, tucking the lock behind her ear and taking her face in his hands.
“Me too,” she said. He bent his head down and she lifted her head as his lips came down on hers. Soft and sensual. Slowly, he parted his lips, moving to the next level. She put her arms around his neck, fingers twisting in his hair. He placed his hands on her waist and thought that this had to be the happiest moment of his whole life, despite everything that had happened yesterday.
They came up for air. He put his forehead against hers. “I’ve wanted to do that since we were eleven and you were looking for Neville’s toad on the train.” It smelled slighlty funny behind the shed, and a gnome had poked its head out from it hole and was staring at them, expressionless.
I love you; I've loved you all along
I miss you; been far away for far too long
I keep dreaming you'll be with me and you'll never go
Stop breathing if, I don't see you anymore
She laughed softly. “I never thought you would ever see me as anything but one of the guys.” She thought about the many times he had overlooked her femitiy: the Yule Ball, trips to Hogsmeade... But it now seemed that it was just her who had overlooked him.
“You were wrong. I-I thought that… you and Harr-” but he stopped when she brought her lips to his once again, this time more feverish than before.
“I love him, but he’s like a brother I never had. I always liked you Ronald Weasley, maybe not from the train ride, but I liked you,” she said, placing her cheek on his big chest.
“Oh,” he echoed. “How about Krum?” Blush was beginning to color her cheeks.
“I was trying to make you jealous, surely you knew that?” she said with a hint of laughter. "Honestly, I thought his eyebrows were slightly funny. And that accent was kind of hard to understand."
“Smart girl,” he said with a grin. “I was about to claw his eyes out at the wedding.”
“Oh, please don’t. He’s a seeker!” she said, “We seek with the eyes.”
“As long as you don’t even look at him again, I’m okay,” he said happily. Even a chuckle escaped his lips. He hadn't thought he would laugh ever again after he had seen Fred's dead body.
Soft music began to pour out of a neighboring house. “Do you want to dance?”
On my knees, I'll ask, last chance for one last dance
'Cause with you, I'd withstand all of Hell to hold your hand
I'd give it all, I'd give for us, give anything, but I won't give up
“Sure,” she said. And she took his hand and placed her other hand on his shoulder. His hand came around to her waist. Slowly they swayed to the music, barely movie. The music had ended but the two kept on going not realizing the absence of a beat.
“This is nice,” she said, lookin up from a piece of lint on his chest. “But it feels so weird that it’s all over.”
“It’s not over, Hermione. This is just the beginning,” he said into her hair. It was a beginning of a whole new life, with some old and some new. The memories and love still alive as it was before, only stronger and more powerful.
“Yes, it is,” she said.
The dance behind the shed for what seemed like forever before he spoke up again.
“Do you love me, Hermione?” he asked, curiously and nervously at the same time.
“Do you?” she asked.
“Yes, I do love you. .From the moment you came in looking for that grateful Trevor. God bless that toad,” he said, but not with a laugh. He was serious; his ears pink.
“I love you,” she said, before taking possession of his lips once again. It seemed the fireworks were taking place in her heart.
Hold on to me,and never let me go. Keep breathing
'Cause I'm not leaving you anymore
Believe it. Hold on to me never let me go
A/N: hehe, I had to do that. It was swimming inside my head ever since I finished Deathy Hallows. And it is a one shot. And I love it, how about you?
