By the time they got to the Great Hall, everyone was already there, and both were surprised to Wednesday, sitting next to Harry and Ron, her hands clenched into fists.
Hermione tried to fight against her nature, to comfort and help, but she couldn’t help it; she had to help her.
As Hermione came nearer, she could hear the boys trying to get her to talk, but she said nothing.
Hermione sat next to Wednesday and simply looked at her.
“Wednesday is everything ok?” She asked and Wednesday looked at her, her expression much like her fathers when he is annoyed.
“I am fine.”
“You don’t look it.”
“Well someone kicked me out of bed this morning.” She said and Hermione simply looked at her, her eyebrow raised.
“Fine then, you can sleep on the couch.”
“Or I can just kick Malfoy out of his bed, that would work too.”
“So what’s wrong?”
“I have business in London on the thirteenth, some shit about witness to a murder, or something.” She said and Hermione looked at her, her eyes wide.
“What’s wrong with that?”
“Wasn’t there. Someone put my name in the bin, and they pulled it out.” She said looking up to the staff table; Hermione knew there was something Wednesday was not saying about the letter, but who was she to ask for the truth to be told.
Another owl flying in, dropping a letter in front of Wednesday and Hermione. Hermione was about to slip hers away when Wednesday grabbed it from her, set both of their letters on a plate and lit it on fire with her lighter.
“What now?” She said to the ashes and Hermione smiled; allowing some of her defenses to slip.
“Well you could spit on them or something, but I don’t know.” She said causing Wednesday to smile.
“Do I have to go to class?”
“Not really if you really don’t want to.”
“Actually, we have potions, right?”
“Good, see you in about ten.” Said Wednesday as she ran out, Ron shaking his head.
“She’s an odd one, isn’t she Hermione?”
“Yeah, whatever.” said Hermione as she walked out, Malfoy joining her.
“I just don’t know what to do Harry.” Said Ron and Harry patted him on the shoulder as Ginny cut in.
“Something happened to her.”
“What do you mean?” Asked Harry; wouldn’t they have been told if something happened to his best friend?
“You can see it in her eyes. For one she never looks anyone in the eyes anymore and two, she’s not our Hermione anymore. Only something horrible could have caused this.” said Ginny and the boys looked at her, not sure of what to say.
When everyone got to potions they heard Snape and Wednesday arguing over a caldron as Wednesday held a bottle in her hands, right above the caldron.
“Its going to explode if you put it in there.”
“No it won’t. I have studied this potions combination for years, it won’t do any harm.”
“Cockrock shells and silver are highly volatile together.”
“Oh look at you using big words and shit. You know nothing. The nitrate which I know you know nothing of, balances it out.”
“No you are,” She said as she made eye contact with Harry who nodded.
“We could come back later if that’s when class will start.” Said Harry and in that moment when Snape was distracted Wednesday threw the bottle in, smashing it in the caldron.
There was a large explosion and both Snape and Wednesday were thrown back.
Several students quickly ran threw the smoke to their sides as others went to get another teacher.
Hermione and Harry were at Wednesday’s side, trying to wake her, but as Hermione saw the blood she snapped and ran out, Malfoy running after her.
After a few moments Wednesday woke up, in a coughing fit.
Harry held her up so she could breath as Dumbledore ran through the door.
“She headmaster, is a pig headed brat.”
“Just remember where I get it from.” she said coughing as she looked at Dumbledore then to the caldron.
“Now watch this.” she said as she took her hand which was bleeding horrible and stuck her hand in the potion before anyone could stop her.
She pulled her hand out, no sign of the injury ever being there.
“Yeah, I’m a freaking genius.”
“Your ok.” Said Harry and she nodded, looking over to Snape who had just woken up.
“Told you so.” She said as Dumbledore and the other teachers rushed everyone out of the room, including Harry as they closed the door behind them, casting a spell over the door.
Snape stood as he helped Wednesday up and then brought his face close to her's.
“What the hell were you thinking?”
“It was fun.”
“it was reckless.”
“You usually like my recklessness. It gets the job done.”
“This isn’t a job a Wednesday. Goddamn it, I’m trying to keep you safe.”
“Why? Because you couldn’t protect her?” She asked cruelly and he backed away from her.
“You son of a bitch. I’ll never see why she married you.” She said as she walked out, Snape stunned by her words.
Malfoy tracked Hermione down after ten minutes of looking for her and he found her sitting against wall, breathing shallowly.
“Granger are you alright?” he asked as he knelt next to her, her face white. “Granger you need to snap out of it.” He said shaking her as Wednesday ran by, stopping when she saw them.
“Move aside, she needs room.” Said Wednesday as she slid next to Hermione, taking her head in her lap.
“Hermione you need to breath, just breath.” She said with her hand on her chest, moving it up and down.
“Move with my hand.” Said Wednesday as Hermione started breathing properly again, Malfoy looking at Wednesday oddly.
“How did you know what to do?”
“She was having a panic attack.” She said and Malfoy nodded, as Wednesday looked at her.
“We need to get her back to common room.”
“She needs to rest, this was a mild one, she could have a bigger one any second.”
“What brought it on?”
“How the hell would I know?”
“You seem to know everything.”
“Only what I need to.”
“What happened to your face?”
“What happened to yours?”
“Well mine isn’t turning pretty, pretty colors right now.”
“Gift.” She said and he nodded; he knew about present or gifts from his father.
“I got her.” Said Malfoy picking Hermione up and carrying her as Wednesday followed him to the common room.
“Do you know what happened to her this summer?” asked Malfoy and Wednesday looked at him with her head cocked as he lay her on the couch.
“Why do you care?”
“I don’t know. But she is barely talking to Pothead and Weasel, things like that just don’t happen.”
“Are you asking because your father is, or you want to know?”
“What does my father have to do with this?”
“Please. You father and mine are co workers in a sense. Are you asking for his sake, for Voldemort.”
“You said his name.”
“I have been given permission to do so.”
“That, is asking too many questions.”
“I have seen you before.”
“I don’t doubt it.” She said as she opened the fridge and pulled out the orange juice. “People change, and things happen so they change.”
“But do you know?” he asked and Wednesday looked out the window, speaking.
“Its better to ask how a person dies, and yet still lives. What happens to destroy a person from the inside out. When you can answer that, maybe you can answer what happened to her. Until then, don’t ever ask me again.” Said Wednesday and Malfoy nodded as he walked up behind her.
“Here, take this. It will make the bruise disappear.” He said handing her a small potion bottle.
She smiled at him and took it, placing it in her pocket as Hermione sat up, breathing as if the wind had just been knocked out of her.
“Careful Hermione.” Said Wednesday as she ran to her side, Hermione looking at her with big eyes.
“How did I get here?”
“Malfoy dragged you by your hair.”
“Oh, thanks.” she said shaking her head, trying to wake up.
“Are you ok?”
“I’m fine, no harm.”
“Ran into a wall, you know me.” She said as someone knocked on the porthole, Wednesday looked at Malfoy who went to the door. Snape walked in.
“Wednesday we need to talk.”
“Not right now.”
“Yes now. Its important.” he said and she looked at him, knowing he was not messing with her.
“I’ll be back.” She said getting up and taking Snape up to Hermione’s dorm.
“What is it?”
“Maren has sent them after you.” Once those words left his mouth, her expression changed from her cool tone to one much like his.
“FUCK!” She shouted, looking around. “God fucking damn it. Fuck. Do you think if I go-”
“No, he won’t even see Dumbledore.”
“Because he has no idea who fucking Dumbledore is. It would take me, twenty minutes to get him to change his mind.”
“Doesn’t matter does it. I’ll still leave for London on the thirteenth, and if they don’t get me then, then I will go after him.”
“Are you draft? Have you forgotten your promise?”
“Dumbledore can find someone else to do it.”
“He wanted you.”
“Well then he shouldn’t have chose someone who is on the fucking run. Now get out of my face.”
“Why do you want to get so fatherly now? Just get away from.” She said walking out of the dorm and out the common room.
