Chapter 11 : Dancing in the Rain
| ||Rating: Mature||Chapter Reviews: 4|
Background: Font color:
It had been two weeks since the night of the party and Shay and Sirius had been closer then ever. They spent almost every waking moment together. But everybody else was confused. They were always holding hands or whispering things in each other’s ear, but they hadn't said if they were going out or not. Neither Shay nor Sirius had told anybody about the night they spent together. That was just for them.
The first Hogsmeade trip was rapidly approaching and both Shay and Lily were nervous. It was going to be Lily's first date with James and Shay's first with Sirius. Neither of them had any clue on what they were in for or how nervous the boys were. Shay kept in trying to get information out of Sirius about what he had planned for Hogsmeade but he wouldn't budge.
"Sirius, why won't you tell me?" Shay whined.
"Because I want it to be a surprise."
"Are you trying to drive me insane or do you just think you’re funny? You know I don't like surprises," Shay said impatiently.
"You're so cute when you're mad," Sirius said grinning.
"Maybe I'll just find a date that will tell me what he planned," Shay said sinisterly.
“I think you’re trying to be funny. There’s no way you could find a date now."
"Yes I could. I got asked out yesterday,” Shay said with a smile.
“By who?” Sirius asked.
“It’s none of your business,” Shay said.
“It must be some one bad if you don’t want to tell me,” Sirius said with a confident smile.
“He’s not that bad. He’s smart, well at least smarter than you.”
“It was a Ravenclaw?” Sirius asked and was having fun guessing who the mystery person was.
“No. I could never go out with a Ravenclaw. I can’t date someone who is smarter than me,” Shay said.
“Well then I guess we can’t go out,” Sirius said with a smirk.
“Haha, you’re hilarious,” Shay said with sarcasm.
“So was it someone from Gryffindor?” Sirius asked.
“Was it someone from Slytherin?” Sirius asked and his face looked horrified about the outcome.
“No worse,” Shay said and shook her head.
“How could Hufflepuff be worse than Slytherin?” Sirius asked.
“Even though they’re all idiots, some of them are cute,” Shay said and shrugged her shoulders.
“That’s horrible,” Sirius said with disgust.
“You can’t tell me that you’ve never thought a girl from Slytherin was hot. You slept with my sister and she’s the queen of Slytherin. And speaking of that, we can never have sex now,” Shay said seriously.
“Oh come on. It was over two years ago,” Sirius said.
“That doesn’t matter. You slept with my sister, who is now sleeping with your brother and if I jumped in there it would be like an incest square.”
"Mmmhmm. Well that was an interesting converstation. I have to go meet James now. I'll see you later for quidditch try-outs," Sirius said and gave Shay a kiss on the cheek and left.
Shay napped on the couch in the common room for a while until she heard some commotion. Shay looked and saw a group of girls by the bulletin board. She walked over to a 5th year named Alicia Foyer.
"What's going on?"
"They just posted a notice that says we are having a Halloween ball."
Shay walked through the group to look at the board. She got excited as she read the piece of paper.
To the Modern Masquerade Ball
Date: October 31st
Time: 7:00 P.M. - 11:00 P.M.
Where: The Great Hall
Classes will be shortened the day of the dance. There will also be an extra Hogsmeade trip a week before the dance. Anyone who attends must have a silver, black, white, or gold masquerade mask.
Shay got really excited and instantly thought about Sirius.
'What if he doesn't want to go? What if he wants to go with some other girl?'
Shay went to find Niki and Lily. They were up in the girls' dormitory.
"Did you guys hear about the Halloween ball?" Shay asked.
"Yea, I'm the one that put the notice up," Lily said.
"So are you guys going with James and Remus?"
"I know Remus and I are going, James and Lily no doubt. But are you going with Sirius?" Niki asked.
"I don't know. I'm waiting for him to ask."
"He'll ask. I'll bet he asks you tomorrow at Hogsmeade," Lily said.
"You think? Well I guess I'll just worry about what my dress is going to look like."
All three girls chatted until it was time for Shay to go to the quidditch pitch.
Shay was the last person there and it looked like everyone was waiting for her.
"Late as usual," James huffed impatiently.
Quidditch was his second love; of coarse Lily was his first.
Shay saluted him sarcastically.
"Ok, everybody we are looking for a chaser, a keeper and a seeker. Now my fellow teammates and I will be judging you on your flying, maneuvering, ball handling, and how well you will work with the team. Now I'll introduce the people that will help decide if you will be on the team or not. Our chaser is Trisha Warner,"
Trisha was a very tall, athletic, and brunette. She was a 6th year and one of the best chasers the team had ever seen.
"Our beaters are Sirius Black,"
A couple of girls trying out started to giggle, and Sirius winked at them.
"Oy, we are doing try-outs not the dating game! Ok our other beater is Shay Calhoun,"
Shay had just finished punching Sirius in the arm and she heard catcalls and wolf whistle.
"Sorry boys, I'm here to play quidditch, not find somebody new to snog."
Trisha and Sirius started snickering and the boys making the noises stopped.
"And I'm James Potter, chaser and captain. Now who ever is trying out for keeper get in one group and chasers in one, and seekers in another. When you're done I want 10 laps around the pitch on your brooms. Then we will be putting you through some exercises."
The team watched everyone fly around the pitch.
"So why were you late?" James asked.
"I was talking to Niki and your girlfriend about the Halloween Ball."
"Yea, I asked Lily right away. Not that I had to anyway. Are you and Sirius going to go together?"
"I want to but he hasn't asked yet. Do you know if he asked another girl? Would you even tell me if he did?"
"Of coarse I would tell you and to my knowledge he hasn't asked anyone yet. Now let's stop worrying about the dance and start thinking quidditch."
The kids trying out landed and got back into there groups. Sirius and Shay worked with the chasers, James worked with the seekers, and Trisha worked with the keepers. By the end they had a couple of people stand out.
"Ok you guys. Try outs are over and I'd like to thank you all for coming. Now remember I'm only picking the best. Gryffindor has a title to defend. The results will be posted tomorrow before the Hogsmeade trip in the common room."
James, Shay, Sirius, and Trisha stayed on the field discussing who should be on the team.
"That 3rd year, Billy Sanders, seemed like he had potential to be a great seeker," James said.
"Yea and Brian Wood was a great. He blocked all my shots. His brother trained him well," Trisha said and everyone nodded in agreement.
"Well, Natasha Johnson stood out for me. She dodged all the bludgers and could maneuver really well on a broom," Shay said.
"I agree with her. She was the best and would work the best with the team," Sirius said.
"Ok, thanks you guys. I think I know who I'm going to pick."
Everyone woke up early because of the Hogsmeade trip. It wasn't very nice out. Gray skies but the sun was trying to shine through.
"You guys, it looks like it's going to rain." Lily said.
"I hope there is thunder and lightning," Shay said looking out the window.
"Why would you want that?" Niki asked.
"Because it is awesome."
The girls were finally finished getting ready. Lily had her hair down and curled at the ends. She was wearing an emerald green top that matched her eyes and a pair of black capris. Niki curled her hair and had it half up. She was wearing a pink tank top and white shorts. Shay had her hair down with its natural waves. She was wearing a grey halter with her favorite pair of jeans.
All the girls went down to the common room, but the boys weren't down there. They waited about five minutes when the boys came down.
"You girls look great," James said while he pinned up the results of the try-outs.
"So who did you pick?" Shay asked.
"Wood, Johnson, and Sanders."
"Good choice. Our team is going to kick ass this year."
"Let's go to breakfast. I'm starving!" Peter said.
Everybody sat down and started eating.
"Don't eat too much. I don't want you to ruin your appetite," Sirius whispered in Shay's ear.
"Ah, so our date has something to do with food."
"Maybe, maybe not. You'll see when we get there."
Shay looked at him, as though trying to read his mind. Then she turned to the others.
"So what are you guys doing?"
"Lily and I are going for a walk. I'm going to show her parts of Hogsmeade she's never seen."
"Remus and I are going shopping."
"Peter, what are you doing?" Sirius asked.
"I'm meeting up with someone."
There was a chorus of oohs and awws.
"Who is it?" Lily asked.
"That's for me to know and you to maybe find out."
"Well I hope you have a good time. And plus it's time to go."
They got to Hogsmeade about 30 minutes later and the group went their separate ways. Sirius took Shay's hand and they started walking.
"So where are we going?"
"Just follow me and soon you will know."
They walked through Hogsmeade all the while every girl that passed Shay gave her a dirty look.
"Jeez, if looks could kill, I'd be struck dead 100 times now."
"What are you talking about?"
"Well in case you didn't notice, almost every girl in the school hates me right now because I'm holding hands with you."
They walked up the hill that the Shrieking Shack was on and Shay found a picnic laid out.
"Sirius, did you do this?" Shay asked.
"Yea, I came out here last night," he said blushing a little.
"I love it. Thank you so much for doing this."
"Anything for you."
Shay gave him a hug and a kiss on the cheek then sat on the blanket. They sat and ate for a while and tried to see who could catch the most grapes in their mouth. Then it started to rain.
"Oh great. Why does it have to rain today?" Sirius asked ad started to pack everything up.
But Shay grabbed his hand.
"Don't. I want to stay out here."
Then she got up and started running and twirling around.
"Come on Sirius, I want you to dance in the rain with me."
Sirius walked over and wrapped his arms around Shay.
"Don't you just love the rain," Shay said.
They stood there for a while in each other’s arms, dancing to the sound of the rain.
"Will you go to the Halloween Ball with me?"
Shay could hear his heart beat extremely fast.
"I was wondering when you were going to ask me. Of course I will."
"That's great but I have to ask you one more thing…will you be my girlfriend?"
Shay hadn't expected him to ask this so she was surprised.
"You know what Sirius. I would love that."
Sirius had a million dollar smile that had a contagious effect.
"Now Sirius can I ask you something? Will you kiss me?"
"You don't even have to ask."
He leaned forward and they had a long passionate kiss standing in the rain without a care in the world.
