"I'm telling you Albus, no good can come of this!" the witch cried.
"Quite to the contrary, Minerva. The good that will come of this is the chance to bond!" the older wizard said gently.
The witch looked reluctant as she admitted, "I suppose, but please, Albus, imagine the inappropriate conduct that would occur!" A disapproving shudder went through her spine just thinking of such things. Biting her lip, she pressed, "Surely you realize this!"
The headmaster looked sly as he leaned back in his chintz and smiled, as if he'd been anticipating the argument.
"But of course, Minerva!"
The distressed professor felt her worries increase tenfold as she caught the trademark twinkle in his eyes. Oh, what was he thinking, that Dumbledore? The old coot, she thought. Always up to tricks - seemed to find them funny. Amusement in a place of academics indeed! And such a game where scandalous happenings of epic proportions could take place! All under the same respectable roof as her, too. Wanting their teenagers, witches and wizards in training, to take part in such hooliganism! Indeed! Why, Madame Pomfrey would have her hands full, having two houses that loathed each other left alone in the Great Hall.
Cheerfully he finished, "There will be restricions! I will personally have charms placed on the Great Hall to prevent such, as you mentioned, inappropriate conduct. I shall have Severus make the announcement to his class tomorrow morning, after breakfast. Please go inform him of what's to take place tomorrow."
Leaning forward, he motioned toward a lovely crystal bowl on the center of his desk.
"Now, lemon drop?"
The witch signed heavily as she huffily left the room, dreading informing her temperamental colleague of his impending duty.
With a knowing smile on the corners of his lips, Headmaster Albus Dumbledore leaned forward and reached for a lemon drop. After popping it in his mouth, he grinned.
Muggle candies - how delightful they were.
"He's mad, I say! Brilliant but mad! The dotty old codger! Suggesting such a thing - absolute poppycock, I say!" As she continued grumbling the whole journey down to the dungeons, Professor Minerva McGonagall threw up her hands in despair.
She grimaced as she steeled herself for what was to come. Being irritable Severus Snape, she knew he would most definitely not take kindly at having had this burden dropped on his shoulders. She admitted that she was grateful she would not be there when the students were informed of this.
Stepping into the Potions room, she walked over to the 13th stone in the left wall and tapped. Instantly, the door to Severus's office materialized while she tightened her hair bun and knocked on the wooden door. She shivered and waited. The dungeons
were always
so terribly drafty!
At last, a very disgruntled looking Severus Snape answered the door. Judging from his extremely disheveled appearance and half open lids, she realized he'd retired early that night. Her shoulders drooped as she realized this was going to make her job harder - an even surlier than usual Severus was never good news. Heck, Severus wasn’t very good news. Professor McGonagall had not anticipated this.
"Yes?" he spat, looking very much annoyed that he'd been awaken from an early night in. He stifled a yawn and stiffened as his colleague strode into his office. Lazily, he scratched his bum as he watched her, wondering what was so important it couldn't have waited till morning - and his lovely dream with Celestina Warbeck, especially since it had been going in a direction that he had very much liked.
Apologizing profusely for interrupting his sorely-needed beauty sleep, she turned around and advised him - "You may want to sit down for this."
He gave her a sour but questioning look as he magicked two hard wooden chairs and plunked himself down in what seemed to be the softer one. Ungraciously, he motioned toward the other one. He tried to read McGonagall's expression as she shuffled over, as he was still too groggy to perform Legilimency. Observing her worry lines and noting the not so early hour, he had a sinking feeling whatever she had to say was their mischievous headmaster's doing..
