Starcrossed
Chapter 8: Backfire

Juliet lie in a hospital bed with a supposeded stomach flu, mentally bashing Troy.
How could he do that? What a hypocrit! One day he professes his undying passion for me, and the next day he's making out with some chick in public!
Juliet grimaced and rolled over to her side left sharply, ignoring the glare from an onlooking student who couldn't stop leaking a green substance from his ears.
I want to slap that cheeky grin right off his face. And who was that girl, anyway? Another typical dumb blonde, I bet. Probably stole her off his idiot cousin. Well whatever he's doing, it's not going to bother me one bit. He has his own girl now, and thats what I wanted. Now we can both be happy. But I don't want him to be happy. I want him to mope in misery and pine for me, and I want to run into his arms and taste his lips again. God, he's a good kisser. Well, I can only compare it to Scott, but it's a lot better.
Juliet stared dreamily at the green curtain aside her until she snapped out of it with a scowl.
What am I saying! I have a boyfriend, a proper boyfriend, whom I like very much. I do not like Troy. I do not like Troy. I do not, repeat not, like Troy. I just love him a hell of a lot.
Juliet sighed and didn't bother to hold back the tears that were fighting her eye lids. The only guy I ever loved doesn't love me anymore, and it's been like two days. They should just change my name to loser with a capitol L.
"Julie?" a warm voice called.
Juliet swatted stray tears off her face and sniffed, rolling over to see who was calling her. "Oh, Scott." she forced a smile.
"How are you feeling?" He asked, moving to her bedside and brushing damp tendrils out of her face.
Juliet tensed at Scott's touch, but didn't recoil. "A bit better. Probably a stomach bug or something."
"Oh, well maybe you shouldn't eat this than, but I brought you some cookies from lunch." Scott smirked and pulled a bag of cookies from his pocket and placed them on the nightstand.
"Thanks." Juliet smiled at his thoughtfulness. "Did you take any notes for me?"
"I had Aralyn copy hers for you and your lucky, you missed a snooze fest in Potions. The different between herbs and plain old weeds."
"Sounds delightful." Juliet giggled half-heartedly.
"I've got to catch up with Finn and Greg, are you ready to leave?" he asked.
"Uh, no, I don't think so." she lied. "I feel a bit nauseous."
"Alright, I'll see you at dinner I suppose. Get better, babe." Scott smiled and kissed Juliets cheek.
"Your calling me babe now?" Juliet asked with a smirk.
"Yeah, I like it." Scott grinned and heaved his bag over his shoulder. "Later."
Juliet sighed and pulled the covers tightly around her body. I'm babe now. Wasn't babe a pig? This is great.
She reluctantly shut her eyes in hopes to drift off to a dream land free of boys.
"JULIET!" A squeaky voice yelled.
Juliet easily awoke, not being able to sleep well in the first place, and recognized the shrill voice.
"Blaze." she groaned and sat up.
"When were you going to tell me you had a boyfriend?" she asked and pounced onto the rather stiff bed.
"It's kinda new..." Juliet sighed, not wanting to talk about it.
"Well, tell me about him." Blaze smirked and got into a comfortable position.
"You sound like Aralyn." Juliet cocked one eyebrow and leaned back onto a pile of pillows.
"You may or may not realize, but I'm thirteen. I'm hitting puberty. I actually like guys. I can't exactly get this kind of communication from Trystan, and I'd really rather not ask. Even though your low on experience and a spazz, I figure your my best role model." Blaze explained.
"God, your weird." Juliet laughed. "But okay. I always wanted a girly little sister since you were born and that hasn't happened yet, but we can try."
"Good. Now, what's his name." she asked, flipping her hair behind her shoulder.
"Scott." Juliet answered, her voice lowering.
"How'd you meet him?"
"Kinda random, just bumped into him. Talked a bit, and I asked him to my party. By the way, why weren't you there?" She asked, cocking her head to the side.
"I was, for a bit. But I got a little...busy." she smirked her signature smile.
"Busy?" Juliet asked doubtfully. "Either you ended up in a broom closet with a guy or you fell asleep."
"Both." Blaze giggled.
"Only you, Blaze." Juliet laughed.
"So, Scott, huh? Is he cute?"
"I guess." Juliet shrugged. Scott was cute, but in her opinion, Troy was better. Hell, Troy was like Brad Pitt to her.
"You guess? Well, I want to find out. And find out if he has a friend. So I say we get out of here because you don't seem sick anymore and go get something to eat. I was followed by a bewitched bludger while I was messing around on my stormrunner and was chased right into the lake so I missed lunch. Ya know, those merpeople get pretty angry when you land on them."
Juliet smiled and almost rejected her offer, but reconsidered. She felt happier already, and sulking in a hospital bed wouldn't make matters better.
"Okay."
"Trooooy!" two annoying voices teased.
Troy stopped in his tracks and groaned.
"What is it?" asked Calista from his side in the busy hallway, almost getting hit by a student who was filtering out of a classroom.
"Albany and Logan." he sighed and waited for some sort of lecture or a I told you so.
"Look at this, Logan." Albany smirked and walked in front of the pair.
"My, my, my! It's the new happy couple!" Logan grinned.
"How are you, Troy? How does it feel, knowing that you could never love again, to have found someone?" Albany said dramatically and fainted onto Logan.
Troy turned a shade of scarlet and tightened his grip on Calista's hand.
"Aw, that's adorable." Calista beamed and hugged Troy.
"Yeah, nice seeing you guys too. To bad we gotta go. See ya." Troy said and pulled Calista past his cousin and friend, hoping they would shut up.
"Bye lover boy!" Albany shouted.
"They are gits." Troy said with gritted teeth as soon as they were out of earshot.
"Their just messing with you." Calista smiled. "Is it true? What they said?"
"What do you mean?" he said, rubbing the back of his neck.
"That you thought you'd never love again." Calista said softly.
"I...." Troy stuttered.
Damn Albany. Damn Logan.
"You don't have to say it." she smiled slightly. "I know."
Phew....
"Well, I'm just glad that you could. When I broke up with Daniel, I felt like I never wanted to be close to another person again. But then there came you." she fought a smile and bit her lip.
Oh god. She's emotionally attatched. She can't be emotionally attatched. How come I get one girl to care about me and the one that really matters acts like she doesn't give a damn.
"Erm, t-thats nice." Troy smiled weakly.
"You don't have to be shy around me, Troy." Calista smirked and stopped walking.
"Huh?"
Calista just shook her head and put her arms around Troy's neck, standing on her toes to reach his lips.
Well, okay then.
"Hey babe." Scott smiled brightly and plopped down next to Juliet and across from Blaze.
"Scott?" Blaze raised her eyebrows.
"Yeah. You must be Julie's sister." Scott said and began to pile chicken onto his plate.
"Mmm." Blaze smirked. "Nice to meet you. Your on the Ravenclaw team, right?"
"Yep, keeper." Scott said without even looking up from his plate.
"Cool, I'm a beater." Blaze nodded and picked at her pasta.
God. Please don't start talking about quidditch. Pleaaaaaaase.
"Yeah, isn't your whole family on the team?" he asked.
"Pretty much. Most of my uncles, my mum and dad, and now me, my brother and two cousins are on the Gryffindor team. Juliet's the odd one out."
"Your brother's pretty good. I want to make captain my last year."
"What's your favorite proffesional team? I'm a bit biased towards the cannons, even though they kind of suck." Blaze laughed.
"Haha." Scott grunted. "They haven't won a championship in years."
"It went from 1892 til 2000 for them to win. Now their on another losing streak."
Agggghhhhhhh. Shoot me.
Juliet sighed loudly and leaned her chin in her hands.
"I get the point." Blaze giggled. "I'll go sit with Sam. Bye Scott."
"Later." Scott looked up from his half empty plate to nodd to Blaze. "Your sister's cool."
"Yeah, sometimes." Juliet shrugged and played with her meatball.
"So, your feeling better?" Scott asked, turning to sit on the side of the wooden bench.
"Yeah, guess I ate something that didn't agree with me." she lied.
"Good." Scott smiled and pushed Juliet's plate away from her. "I've wanted to kiss you all day."
Juliet smiled slightly and let Scott pull her closer. "Alright."
Scott kissed Juliet in a way that would make any girl swoon, but didn't phase Juliet much.
I have three essays to write. Damn it. I wonder when they'll schedule a hogsmeade trip. I need shoes. No, I just want shoes. Shoes are pretty. I sound like Aralyn.
Scott ended the kiss abruptly and pulled back the baggy sleave of his robe.
"Crap, sorry babe, I'm late. Extra practice." he jumped from his seat and pecked Juliet's cheek. "Bye!"
Juliet shrugged. "Babe."
Juliet grunted and lowered her head once she saw a few students wondering why she was talking to herself.
"Anyone in there? Troy?" asked Logan.
"Yeah, yeah, I'm listening." Troy replied, not taking his eyes off Juliet's glossy black hair.
"Sure, and that's why you've been stabbing the table for the last ten minutes looking for your potatoe."
"Sorry." he sighed and looked at his fork which was wedged into the table.
"Who are you staring at?" Logan craned his next and observed the large room.
"Nobody."
"Ah, Gryffindor girl." Logan smirked. "But I thought you were over her. You got who you wanted, didn't you?"
"Of course, I have Calista, I'm happy. Who says I was staring at her?" Troy shrugged and turned his head away from Logan.
"Pulling an Albany, are you?" Logan inquired. "When a girl finds his obnoxious personality to much to bear, he dates another one to make her want him. Do you get how idiotic that is?"
"I'm not pulling an Albany, I like Calista. I was just day dreaming. That's it."
"Sure. But just so you know, that plan has a five percent sucess rate. And that's for the really stupid girls." Logan snorted.
"I get it, alright?" Troy sunk lower onto the table and contorted his face with annoyance.
"I like Calista, not Juliet, and I know Albany is a complete git. Now may I continue stabbing the table?" he spat matter of factly.
"Go for it." Logan shrugged and slid off the bench, shoving cookies into his knapsack and leaving the Great Hall.
"Im a fan of the Haileybury Hammers. I don't care how good Puddlemere United is doing, their my home team. What team do you like?" Calista asked as her and Troy walked hand in hand to their next class.
"Uh...I guess I like the Falmouth Falcons just because my father's a fan, but I don't pay that much attention to quidditch. Where are the Haileybury Horses from again?" Troy replied idly.
"The hammers, Troy." Calista laughed. "Cananda, my homeland of course."
"Oh, your Canadian, right. Why'd you come all the way over here for school?" he asked, paying more attention to the stone ceiling and how many stones it was actually composed of.
"My mum said Hogwarts was the best school I could go to. Though Chilliwack Academey was a lot closer, she wanted me to go where she went. So here I am! And paticularly glad, because I wouldn't have met you." she smiled a almost loopy grin.
Troy managed to duplicate that grin and pull her closer so he could wrap and arm around her shoulder. "I'm glad too."
Troy inwardly groaned. Why is this such a chore for me? Why can't I just relax? She's been talking about something for ages and all I hear is blah blah blah I love you blah blah blah! Does she shut up?
"Here we are." Troy led them into the class room and desperately hoped there wasn't two seats next to each other available.
"Perfect." Calista plopped onto a seat at a table and patted the chair for Troy to join her.
"Thanks." he forced a smile.
"Alright children, simple task to day, make the quills that are already on your desks turn into a puppy." Professor Costigan smirked at sat at his desk to watch the show, only knowing one student to sucessfully make a non-mutated puppy on their first try.
Once class was over, and no puppies made, Troy tried leaving the classroom silently with no avail.
"Troy! Wait up!" Calista called and skipped over to him. "Want to study after dinner? You could deffinitely use help with your puppy. I was so close, you know, just the ink spots on the poor little guy's fur."
"No." Troy murmered outloud instead of in his head.
"What?" Calista stopped walking and looked at Troy in disbelief.
"I mean, no, I don't want to study. Why would I wanna study when we can do other things. Better things." Troy thanked Albany for his quick and sexually suggestive coverup.
Calista looked a bit taken back but then smirked. "Really? What kind of better things?" she asked in a low voice, stepping closer to Troy.
"I-I...well..." Troy swallowed hard. Wether you liked Calista or not, she could really make a guy sweat.
"Studying is alright," Calista sighed, playing with Troy's tie. "but snogging is better. Is that what you meant by better things?"
"I heard you were pretty...upfront, but I didn't believe it. Your usually sweet and quiet." Troy said with a slight smirk pulling at his lips. Calista was so close he could feel her body heat radiating off of her, and was sure she could hear his heart beating. He decided she wasn't so annoying when she wasn't talking as much.
"You know, you can't always believe what you hear." Calista pouted. "But you can always find out for yourself." she smirked a devilish grin and pulled Troy by his tie so they were merely an inch apart.
God, what got into her?
"Here? In the middle of a hallway? With all these people?" Troy whispered.
"Fine." Calista shrugged and stepped back, slinging her bag over her shoulder. "See you later."
"No." Troy said abprubtly and grasped her hand. "Here and now is fine."
"Good." she smiled and pulled him back to her once again, smashing her lips onto his. Troy waited for the passion, he waited for the sparks, he waited for the utter irisistablitly Calista had had a moment ago. He waited as she massaged his lips and worked her tongue into his mouth like a hungry dog. He waited. Nothing came.
She pulled back and looked at him strangely. "Whats wrong Troy? I thought thats what you wanted..."
"It is Cal-" Troy tried to explain his incomptence and looked behind Calista's shoulder for inspiration, but instead found a disheveled Juliet planted to the floor with tears pooling on her swollen eyes.
Juliet left dinner in a slightly better mood then she had been in days, ready to have a whole new outlook on her relationship with Scott, but was instead set back with the image of Troy violently snogging the same blonde.
"Juliet!" Troy yelled helplessly.
She didn't stick around long enough to be heard and turned around, running up the nearest staircase not caring where it took her.
"Juliet?" Calista asked, hand on her hip.
"I-she-I'm sorry. She's sort of my friend and has been going through a rough time lately..." Troy tried to explain and untangle himself from her arms.
Calista looked at him strangely but then let go of his hands. "That's sweet of you, Troy." she smiled. "Your a good person, sometimes I'm suprised your in Slytherin. Go help her, but come get me when your done. We've got lots of studying to do." she smirked.
"Thanks." Troy said, kissing her cheek. He ran off towards the staircase she went up, guessing she was heading to the Astronomy Tower.
Damn! Why the hell am I running up four flights of stairs? I was trying to make her jealous!
Because you really didn't want to hurt her and your being a jerk.
Are you even allowed to call me a jerk? Were the same person.
No, Im your conscience. A better, smarter, and handsomer person then you. So yes, I can call you a jerk.
Your the one who tells me to do these stupid things!
No, this bright idea came from Albany. We've got a git for a cousin, you know that? I suggest perfectly logical ideas to you, you just fail to listen.
Agh, just shut up!
Your the one talking to yourself.
Troy shook his head of his absurd conversation and listened for any sound at the top of a staircase. Muffled sobs came from where he had expected, the Astronomy tower.
"Juliet?" he asked softly, caustiously pushing open the heavy wooden door.
"Go away." she choked out, turning even more into the corner she had settled herself into. Juliet at first felt depressed, but after seeing Troy and that girl at it again, she felt as if someone had punched her in the stomach and knocked all of the wind out of her.
"Juliet..." Troy said uneasily, walking over to her.
"I said go away." Juliet growled.
"I'm sorry." he swallowed, leaning against the wall next to her.
"Sorry for what? You have nothing to be sorry for. I'm just an idiot. I rejected you, and you found someone new. You don't like me. I get that. You don't have to be here, you owe me nothing."
"Thats....thats not true." Troy said quietly. "Your not an idiot. I...didn't expect you to get upset like this."
"Expect?" Juliet asked, pulling her head from her knees.
"I...I..."
Just tell her the truth. Your little plan has already gotten you into a hole, why go further?
But I can't just back down.
It worked, you made her miserable.
I wanted to make her jealous, not a wreck.
Well, something happened. Maybe she'll take you now. Just stop pretending you like that bimbo.
Calista is not a bimbo! Shes just...just...alright she has some bimbo like qualities but thats still rude.
Your an idiot.
"I wanted to make you jealous since you didn't like me. I thought it would work, but now that I see your just hurt, I regret it. I really am sorry, Juliet." Troy sighed.
"This was just a game?" Juliet asked, not sure how to feel about this.
"Yes, a horrible stupid idiotic game, I listened to my idiot cousin and just screwed up." Troy groaned, putting his head in his hands. "Could you ever forgive me?"
"Forgive you? For what? Yeah, you made me a little mad, but this was your choice. You have a girlfriend now, and I have a boyfriend. That's how it is. You seem pretty happy with her."
"But I'm not, Juliet. She isn't like you, isn't like you at all. I thought I could get you if I dated her, or atleast get over you."
"Now you can get over me." Juliet sniffed and stood up, bracing herself on the wall. "It's not that I don't like you Troy, it's that I can't. And you can't like me either. I've been trying so hard over these past days to stop thinking about you! To stop thinking about that girl! To stop wishing I was her and stop wishing Scott was you! To stop pretending that I don't care! But the fact is, I can't! So make this easier on me, please." she pleaded with more tears fighting to spill.
"Who cares about everyone else? I don't!" Troy grabbed her shoulders and looked at her.
"Just...stop." Juliet trembled, looking down. "I can't see you anymore. It hurts to much. So just go back to your girlfriend."
"Juliet..."
"No. I'm sorry." Juliet swallowed hard and pushed past Troy, running out of the room.
Troy watched her slip away along with his strong hope and optimism. He vowed to fix it, some way, some how, and collasped agaisnt the cold stone wall.
