Harry opened his eyes and stretched his arms in the air while yawning at the same time. He felt her arms around himself; he smiled. He was happy. He never felt this way before; not even with Cho.
Cho. The name made him shiver. Just saying her name brought back horrifying memories from the night before. He shook his head. He didn’t want to think about it anymore. No, now he was with his real love who he never noticed before.
Harry kissed Hermione’s head lightly, while brushing her hair from her face. They spent the whole night cuddling on Hermione’s couch, that they fell asleep there.
Hermione woke up to Harry’s hand brushing against her face. She smiled and looked up at Harry.
“Good morning.” She said, loosening her grip around Harry.
“Morning. Sleep well Miss Granger?”
“Of course. I had you protecting me didn’t I Mr. Potter?”
They smiled at each other, before sitting upright and stretching again.
“Wow. We spent the whole night here?” Hermione asked, trying not to blush.
“It wasn’t bad at all. Besides, it’s only eight. We could cuddle in the bedroom now, if you’d like.” Harry said, teasingly, but Hermione turned serious.
“It’s eight already?!” She asked, panicked.
“Yeah, ten minutes left actually. Why? What’s wrong?”
“Oh, no! I’m going to be late for work Harry!” Hermione ran to her room, leaving Harry smiling, while nodding his head.
‘Typical Hermione.’ He thought. ‘Some things never change.’
Cho walked back and forth in her room, thinking hastily about her situation.
“I need to do something about Granger. She’s the root problem of all of this. I knew I should have gotten rid of her when I had the chance. Well, now that Harry’s temporarily broken up with me, I’ll have to win him back somehow...The worst part is that he’s admitted his feelings for Granger. I can’t get rid of her that easily without Harry knowing it would be my fault. I have to do it without Harry suspecting anything…without Granger suspecting anything.”
She paced around the room, constantly biting her nails and knocking her fist into her hand.
Then, all of a sudden, she stopped in the middle of the room and smiled mischievously.
“That’s it! I could do that and they’ll never suspect a thing.”
She walked over to her phone and dialed. ‘Cho Chang…you’re a genius.’
Hermione tried to dry her hair as best as possible after the quick shower, but it wasn’t enough. She decided to use a quick hair-drying spell to speed up the process.
She walked into the kitchen where she saw Harry cooking breakfast.
“Have a seat.” He said. “I made toast. Now I’m making coffee.”
“Harry...” Hermione said, appalled by what Harry was doing. “You didn’t have to do this. I was coming to make some pancakes.”
“It’s no problem at all. Besides, you were taking a shower. I thought I might as well do something to pass the time.”
“Ah, Hermione. Don’t worry. Go ahead and have some toast before you leave.”
Hermione decided 5 minutes wouldn’t hurt sitting with her love, enjoying breakfast.
She sat down and Harry plopped down two slices of buttered toast onto Hermione’s plate. He brought her the cup of coffee before seating himself down next to Hermione with his own plate of toast.
Hermione kept staring at Harry; hoping that this was not a dream.
Harry saw her gaping at him and he grabbed his piece of toast and held it up to Hermione’s mouth.
“Take a bite.”
Hermione obeyed. Harry took the next bite. Hermione couldn’t help but to blush. Harry laughed and Hermione started giggling, too.
After breakfast, Hermione was on her way to work. Harry decided he should head to his place and change into fresh clothes as well. He needed to call Ron and Luna and tell them to change the seating arrangements at their wedding.
Before Harry headed out the door, Hermione asked shyly, “Um...Harry?”
Harry turned to face Hermione; a wide grin on his face.
“I know this sounds kind of awkward, but...would you like to come to my house for dinner tonight?”
Harry smiled widely, while blushing at the same time. “I wouldn't want anything else. But you have to promise me...that you'll join me for dinner tomorrow night at my place. Promise?”
Hermione smiled. "I promise."
Harry placed a kiss on Hermione’s cheek and they were both off.
Hermione walked into her office, rummaging through the piles of papers on her desk. Her secretary, Laura, knocked on the door, before walking in.
“Ms. Granger?” She asked.
“Um…someone left a telephone message for you this morning.”
“Oh? Who was it?”
“A woman by the name of Cho Chang. She said that you know her.”
Hermione froze on the spot. Cho called Hermione at her job and left a message especially for her. Something wasn’t right. Cho should be calling Harry; not her.
“Ms. Granger?” Laura asked, worried why Hermione wasn’t answering back.
“Huh? Um…what was the message she left?”
“She said that she was hoping that you could join her for lunch at Sang’s Brunchville today at noon.”
“What?” Why would Cho invite Hermione to lunch? Would Harry be there?
“She sounded apologetic. She said that she really needs to talk to you.”
“Oh…um…okay. What was the place again?”
“Sang’s Brunchville on Lilac Avenue.”
“Alright. Thank you for the message Laura.”
Hermione couldn’t help but wonder why? Why would Cho invite Hermione for lunch? Should she tell Harry about this? Would Cho invite Harry as well? She pondered of these thought throughout the entire morning.
Finally, it was 11:30 when Laura came in again and reminded Hermione of her lunch date with Cho at noon.
Hermione thanked Laura and decided she would call Harry to let him know of this occurrence, but unfortunately, Harry wasn’t picking up his phone.
There were ten minutes left till noon when Hermione grabbed her keys and headed out the door. She arrived a little late at the restaurant, but she spotted Cho sitting alone in a corner, apparently… remorseful. Hermione couldn’t believe the look on Cho’s face. She usually had a mischievous smirk on her face, but today, something was different. She was sad; or looked somewhat diffident.
Still hesitant of her situation, Hermione walked up to Cho’s table and stood still, watching her carefully, until Cho noticed Hermione’s appearance.
“Oh, Hermione! You came!” She exclaimed happily. “Have a seat.”
Hermione obeyed and sat down; but she continued staring at Cho, obviously stunned.
Cho noticed Hermione’s look and let out a loud laugh.
“I know, Hermione. You’re surprised. I can see it in your eyes, but I can assure you, I mean well.”
Hermione flinched a little before speaking. “Um…so Cho, why did invite me to lunch then?”
“Hermione. Dear Hermione…I invited you to lunch because I felt terrible about the way I’ve been around you lately; or for the last year, anyway. I neglected you because of Harry. Ever since last night, when Harry broke up with me, I’ve started thinking that I might have deserved it. I’ve been acting like a total idiot around you both. And for that...I apologize.”
Hermione’s mouth literally fell open. She couldn’t believe what she was hearing. First, Harry admitted his love for her and now, the famous Cho Chang is apologizing to her. She didn’t realize when her luck changed.
“Hermione? Do you forgive me?” Cho asked, disrupting Hermione’s thoughts.
Hermione looked at Cho for a second. Was she being serious? But if Hermione didn’t accept Cho’s apology then Cho might tell Harry about it, and then Harry might get upset at Hermione for not accepting Cho’s request for forgiveness. Hermione decided it would be the best for her and Harry if she did accept Cho’s apology.
Hermione sighed deeply and replied, “Of course I forgive you Cho. Apology accepted.”
Cho smiled widely. Hermione had honestly never seen her smile like that before. She actually looked nice.
“Now that’s over with…what would my new friend like to eat? Lunch is on me.” Cho said, handing Hermione a menu.
Hermione grabbed it graciously, smiling herself. ‘Wow. Maybe Cho has changed for the better.’
Cho hid herself behind her own menu, smiling mischievously. ‘Poor naïve Granger. Now that I have your trust, I can do anything. Thanks to you, my scheme is going just as I planned.’
